Motorola mentions that you can "listen and charge". Does anyone know if this means that the dock has a line out like the multimedia dock? I want to get a dock to use as an alarm clock but it takes a train coming through my bedroom to wake me up. I'd rather spend the extra couple bucks and get the multimedia dock to get line out.
I looked everywhere online and no one has any pictures of the back of the dock.

Alright. What's the lowdown on that Dock? Does it come with Speakers or do I need to plug them in separately? Is the Samsung App any good? How well does it work with Alarm Apps? Could I use it as an Alarm Dock? What's a good alarm app for an alarm dock? Does the screen stay on the whole time like a clock or does it shut off? Do I even want it on the whole time? Any competing, better products out there?
I *do* have Speakers, an excellent Blueant M1 Bluetooth Speaker set, but I'd rather not have to sync them up/plug them in everytime I put my alarm in my dock. I mean I could do it... moving on.
I like the Samsung Dock because it looks like a nice bedside holder for a clock/alarm. But, for my Desk, I want something to hold it upright. I've seen in the past some makeshift docks made out of business cards or those major paper clips. What options do I have for my Captivate?
Thanks everyone.

You'll need Froyo to use the 3.5mm audio out jack. [EDIT] Correction, you'll need the official Froyo in order to use the 3.5mm audio out jack, whenever that'll be. [/EDIT]
Does any body have suggestions for a very good alarm clock docking station. iHome makes many, but of coarse these are for the iPhone/iTouch. Do we have any for our android phones?
My alarm clock dock is my pillow. Just leave the phone speaker face up, it's hard to hear if the speaker is face down haha
HaHaHaHaHaHa...... oh, you're serious. Sorry man didn't meen to laugh
Lol, if you're looking for some kind of actual dock like the kinds made for the iPods, you won't find it for the Captivate, as the headphone and microUSB jacks are at the top of the phone, and docking a phone upside down is just silly.
If you just want some type of speakers to boost your alarm clock in the morning and play music through, any desktop speakers with a 3.5mm headphone input jack will do.
Check this out. It says it's for the Fascinate, but the USB port is in the same location

When you're running CM7 it automatically starts an app that displays the clock and alarm status as well as weather. I *think* there was a stock app that did something similar but not positive. If memory serves there is a 3.5mm jack on the rear for speakers/headphone but I haven't tried it. If it's important PM/remind me and I'll check.

Search for Philips Android dock on Amazon. I can't post links yet. I've been waiting for something like this. Philips just released three models with an adjustable micro usb connector to fit all android phones. It uses an app to reorient the screen for the Captivate since it would be upside down otherwise. I've tried the app and it works. Thinking of getting one for Christmas.

Now that my friend is what I'm looking for You knocked it outta the park.... Thank you.
For anyone else with interest
link > Philips Fidelio Systems
Samsung makes a Captivate desk dock, but it's been reported to have a low hum from the charger input. It's on ebay for less than I paid. It does require PC speakers like 2.1 for good sound but also has an open slot in the back for the speaker to echo out.
Does anyone still check this thread???
I accidentally stumbled on this thread looking for a socking station w/ speakers for my Samsung Captivate Glide. I'm hoping people still check this thread! I am curious about how the docking stations mentioned are holding up 5 months later, and which products are being used? I just got this phone a few weeks back and am dying for a dock! Also, which app works best to flip the screen so it's not upside down?? Thank you!
Anyone bought and have any reviews for this guy ?
Samsung ECS-K1F4BEGSTA T-Mobile SGH-T989 Vehicle Mount - Car Kit - Retail Packaging - Black
Listed for $33ish bucks on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ECS-K1F4BEGSTA-T-Mobile-SGH-T989-Vehicle/dp/B005LGUCRE
Looks like a good buy just wana know if anyone had bought this and liked it?
Looks like the one I bought from Best Buy. I like it, the only thing that I would warn about is that the phone can be a little difficult to take out. It doesn't want to just snap out like it should.
I have one. It holds the phone very well, but only without a case; absolutely no worries about the phone coming loose, and the phone doesn't bounce or vibrate, so the image is always quite readable. The only possible downside is that you might find the arm a bit short if you're driving a vehicle where the windshield is far forward, but then there's the adhesive disc, although I wouldn't want to go sticking some disk permanently to the dash of *my* car.
Leaving the charger and audio cables connected to the dock is very handy.
The phone recognizes that it's in a dock right away. There are a number of car dock launchers available (I like CarHome Ultra) as well as a car-specific voice mode.
The auto-plug charger that comes with the dock seems OK, but if you're using Navigator plus Pandora, your run-down battery won't get charged. I have yet to experiment with other high-amperage car chargers; seems like all the ones I have don't have USB conductors 2 and 3 shorted together, so they're pretty useless for this until I crack 'em open and solder.
I keep mine in a Toyota MR2 MK2 (little car) mounted at the bottom left of the windshield, and it's basically perfect there.
Oh -
Have it on my crv I can't live without it. Its easy to put in. Audio and charges are usable with one push. If you go caseless and are going to keep the phone for a while the price Is definetly worth it. Third party ones make you manually plug in charger and headphone Jack this makes it way more convienent.

It's pretty unfortunate that it doesn't work with any case though...too bad they didn't make a case combo that would fit that mount specifically.
for the price you can get other mounts that are so much better, look at Micro Center
For what it's worth, I have the Samsung OEM car dock as well and I absolutely love it. One thing I've found, though, is that the phone will occasionally go nuts thinking that I've pushed the button for voice recognition. It'll endless loop repeating "What would you like to do?" until I close out of the car launcher.
Not sure if this happens on the stock OS, I have Synergy+Bombardier loaded on it (rooted.)
I bought it. It's amazing, the dock mode syncs directly with my car stereo Bluetooth.
the only down side is you can not have a case on with it..

does it fit the phone with the Tmo D3O case on?
I'm definitely in the friction mount camp for car mounts. This one works great for me:

Are you guys able to get call audio through the car speakers with your docks?
If so, please post how. I cannot seem to get call audio to route through the car speakers. Media plays fine, but no call audio. Almost a deal breaker for me. Thats what I bought it for. ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try "car mode" in the market...
How to disable car mode for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 / SII T989 Hercules car dock
This is mostly useful if you use Bluetooth audio for your car stereo. This method renders your car dock's USB audio-out jack useless, and you would have to use the phone's headphone jack for an audio cable (untested, since I use Bluetooth audio). The only thing I want a dock to do is hold my phone and charge it. I automate the rest myself. Proceed at your own risk...
Car Mode Ultra is great for overriding your stock car mode, but I wanted to disable it entirely. I didn't like adding another layer of car modes and letting them wrestle for control.
Anyway, since I couldn't find a way to 100% disable the stock car mode software, I did it in the hardware (in the car dock itself).
On the back of the sliding part of the dock, take off the two small stickers and remove the screws under them. Carefully pry the slide apart at the seam to reveal the circuit board inside. Remove the tiny resistor between pads D- and ID. No more car mode!
Apparently, no more charging, either. Or at least not enough current to keep up. Maybe the car mode resistor tells the phone to charge at a higher rate, I'm not sure. Either way, the next step gets the charging to work again, but first, there's a warning:
If you don't want to burn your car down, make sure you have at least a 1 amp (1000ma) rated charger for this next part, otherwise, don't do it. This step increases you charge rate from 500ma to about 800ma (some people with custom ROMs go even higher). If you do this, and your charger isn't powerful enough, it could fry your charger. I have no idea what your charger will do if it fries. Maybe nothing, maybe light your car on fire. If you're not sure about it, don't do it.
On the side of the printed circuit board opposite the audio jack, there are two pads labeled A/R and AL/D. Shorting them to each other will put your phone into "AC charge mode", which means higher charge rate, no USB data, and no USB audio out. Now reassemble the dock.
With Car Mode Ultra and NFC task launcher installed, you can do all kinds of cool stuff. I set Car Mode Ultra to activate upon connecting to the stereo's Bluetooth. This starts the program without activating stock car mode. I stuck an NFC tag on the back of my dock for even more automation. Bluetooth turns on Car Mode Ultra, which unlocks the screen, which enables NFC, which reads the tag, which toggles more settings, starts Pandora, etc. Pretty cool. Full automation.
Does any one have a dock for the note?
Did you get it off ebay? (Here for example)
I want to get one - but really only if it put the note into dock mode. I like to use it as a night stand clock.
If these dont work to put the phone into dock mode - does any one have a suggestion of what dock will? except the 80$ one from samsung.
You might wanna check "Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 I9220 SGH-I717 Multimedia Desktop Dock EDD-D1E1BEGSTA". You can find it on the eBay.
(Im a new user so cant give you a direct link)
You can also find "Genuine Samsung Galaxy NOTE Desk Charge Dock N7000 EDD-D1E1BEG Desktop Cradle !" for 60' ish $
I checked and you can get the cheap on from amazon for like 25$. I think I am going to do that unless someone has any suggestions.
Does anyone know what puts the phone into dock mode? I'd like to build my own landscape dock and am curious about this.
I bought the Phillips AS351/37 fidelio docking speaker for android. It's on Amazon for $112 but I bought mine at Best Buy for $99. It's a dock/speaker system specifically for android phones....it holds my Tmobile Galaxy s2, Htc Sensation and my GNote....it has little wheels on the usb dock where you can adjust it to fit your phone or if you have the usb port on the side of the phone instead of the bottom. It works by bluetooth and the speaker quality, imo, is awesome! It says to download the fidelio app from the play store, you dont have to, I did and its not bad, it has clock mode, alarm mode, brightness settings along with weather forecast. It has radio stations and has the app "songbird"....you can find that in the play store as well. It's just a music app, its ok but I rather use the google play music app. All in all its one of my favorite docks, and I have a few. It doesnt automatically set off the dock mode but like I said, the fidelio app puts it in to dock mode. Phillips has a few different ones, one that has a built in alarm clock with digital display, one that is a round speaker with a nightlight...which is the one that i wanted but when I went to best buy to look at it the GNote overpowered it as the speaker isnt all that big. You can find all the Phillip android docks on amazon. Read the reviews....they have great reviews....I should have posted the link to the one I got, sorry, I'll repost with it.

What i did is a simple use of tasker to activate the clock dock screen when usb is charged. You can also improve it by detecting your home wifi SSID so that it only converts when you are at home. This saves you a ton of money with the cheaper docks. Hope it helps!
Forgot to mention that the fidelio dock I got has a USB port in the back to charge a second device.....which I find super helpful since I have 3 phones.
Perhaps this is a thread better for Q&A, but I figure it is specifically about an accessory. As I've done searching through various gadget sites and Google I've yet to find an accessory for the SGSIII as below:
Coming from the Droid X, there existed a dock which when the DX was placed in it the phone would go into desktop dock mode. I forgot where I got mine. I think it was an ad on droid-life that I clicked through. I've seen that Samsung has a dock that charges the phone and is a multimedia dock, but it appears as if it holds the phone in portrait mode. Is there a dock that allows the phone to sit in a landscape position and have the screen show a clock, calender, etc.?
On another note, does anyone know if the SGSIII's dock is triggered via magnets as the DX was?

S3 does not trigger by magnets.
you have 2 options:
USB trigger, or NFC tag.
BUT samsung has a nice dock with multimedia out, and there are a couple aftermarket ones too... that i can't yet link to.
Hopefully they'll release a desktop dock with HDMI and USB OTG on it, in addition to a charger port. Would make a nice portable computer...
I wish I could put my DX into the "desktop dock" mode to snap a picture of it. It doesn't seem to want to cooperate with CM7 on it. Perhaps it was a Blur thing. I mainly wanted to have this big ass clock/calender/news ticker to sit on my desk. I sit on the corner of cube row so people probably would break their neck as they rounded the corner checking it out!
