OK so here's my problem.. I have backups in both nandroid and Titanium Backup. I flash a ROM wait for it to do its business. After everything boots up, I try to restore everything through titanium backup but I get a force close error. I also try to open Rom Manager to see if it works and I get the same error but for Rom Manager. So the error isn't in Titanium Backup, but I do not know where it is. Any ideas?? I enjoy having custom Roms, but not if I do not have all of my stuff on the Rom.
Well I was going to attach a picture but it will not allow me because I am " New".
The error message reads as this.
! Sorry!
The application Titanium Backup (process com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
(Force Close) <---- button
It also does it with other applications such as the Facebook Launcher.
Once you flash your ROM, run Fix Permissions preferably from recovery, else use the version(s) in either Rom Manager, or Titanium.
Once that completes, reboot device. When you restore things from Titanium, just restore apps, preferably one-by-one, and only the app, not the data.
Do not at all recommend restoring apps+data+system data from Titanium. Why?
The system data backup residing in Titanium was for the last ROM, or the last time the backup was completed. As such, if you flash a different ROM, you are overwriting the system data of the new ROM with the system data from the old ROM - that spells odd behavior, mass force closes. etc. etc.
Well I tried this solution smtom, and it was to no avail. Any other suggestions?
When flashing a ROM, are you clearing cache/dalvik and doing the factory reset on the device? What version of Rom Manager & CWM are you using?
The latest version of CWM is giving people issues.
Absent all that, try not restoring apps or data (anything really) from TB when you flash the new ROM, after having wiped data/caches/user data.
Yes I'm clearing cache and data. The CWM version is 3.0.0.5, which is the latest recovery.
What does clearing the dalvik do and how do I factory reset the device?
I figured it out, with tmtom's help of course! I had to do a factory reset and then flashed the rom and everything worked. Thanks for the advice!!
I have the same error so I'm going to try the solutions provided in this thread. I do have one question though. Kalebskalicky mentioned that he finally fixed it by doing factory reset and then flashing the rom.
Just to be clear; factory reset is the same as wiping data/factory reset? Or I need to do a factory reset from the phone settings?
Another thing. I have noticed that the FC issues have something to do with gapps, acore, and/or framework processes. When I get any of these force closes, all the other apps start to crash, but all the issues start with any of those 3 processes crashing.
However, there are 2 apps that force close from the start, even before any of these 3 processes crash. These 2 apps are voxer and waze.
Is there like a way to delete the folder where they are installed? maybe it's a problem of installation? I have no idea and haven't been able to fix it.
Any suggestions, would be inmensely appreciated.
Thank you very much.
UPDATE:
Just wanted to mention that I always wipe data/factory, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, and then flash the new rom. Is this ok to do? Or am I deleting stuff I shouldn't?
Thanks again.
I also had this issue.
I had tried wiping the cache and the dalvik cache. Fixing permissions. didn't wont to format as everything was set-up how I wanted it and couldn't be bothered going through it again.
After some digging around I had to uninstall titanium backup first then delete the folder
/sdcard/external_sd/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
(there may also be /sdcard/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup to Delete)
Reinstalling titanium backup after deleting this folder, worked like a charm.
Apparently its to do with a corrupt database upgrade???
I hope this helps any one.

This is a Noob question, if I wipe data and cache 3 times with CWM and then restore a backup created just before with CWM doesn't it put back all the stuff that I tried to wipe for clean ROM flashing? Or is there garbage in there that does not get backed up and restored?
Thanks.
It will put pretty much everything back. It doesn't backup and restore the kernel, though.
So what is the purpose of wiping 3 times. Does that allow the new ROM kernel to install properly? Then we can restore everything back on top of the new kernel? The main reason I ask is after flashing a new ROM and only wiping once (I know!) about once every other day my txt messages get stuck sending. I have to reboot to send and then the clock starts again until this reoccurs. So is it best to backup with CWM, wipe 3 times, flash, then restore with CWM?
Thanks.
Wiping three times is because there has been a question about whether clockwork 2.5.x wipes certain partitions properly. Apparently it returns back from the function much faster than it should. Some people do seem to have intermittent problems when wiping once. I generally only wipe once between roms, but if anything isn't working right I go back and wipe 3x and reinstall.
Generally, when you wipe something, you aren't going to be restoring it all back. You want to wipe between different roms because certain things may be set up differently in the two and you may get weird glitches and force closes. If you are wiping to get rid of a bug, then you shouldn't restore a buggy backup or you will probably still have the bug.
You can try doing a reinstall of the base rom, wiping first of course. Then you can go restore->advanced restore->restore data to get apps and settings back. See if you still have the problem. If so, then you're going to have to wipe again and reinstall the base rom, but DONT restore your backup. You may be able to carry some apps and settings across with something like Titanium if you absolutely can't start from scratch again.
AH! Now I get it...thank you for that explanation. Tried the 3X wipe today with restore from CWM 2.5.1 so will wait and see if the SMS problem shows up again. Thank you again.
I've flashed my phone with the latest Cyanogen mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957344)
I flashed the radio, then the ROM and in the end the latest Gapps... But now several things don't work. Facebook can't start and when I try to set a new ringtone, it gives me the 'process media stopped working'. Any idea how to fix this?
Ow. It also happens when I try to visit Facebook and when I try to create a ringtone via Zedge.
Nobody with tips or hints what I did wrong?
Did you wipe everything before flashing it? Data, cache, system, battery stats...
Did you restore any system data e.g. via Titanium Backup?
Have you got a nandroid backup of where you were before?
1. Yes I wiped everything.
2. I did both. First I restored with Titanium Backup. Then I tried without a restore. STill the same problem.
3. before this I used a MIUI ROM but I didn't like it.
My gf froze something in tb that she wasnt supposed to, and now whenever you slide down the lockscreen she gets a force close (process com.android.phone) so the phone is unusable. Is there anything I can do about this in recovery?
If you can get the phone to boot, you can defrost it if you can launch TB. Uninstalling Titanium Backup will not automatically defrost the app.
You can reflash the rom without wiping data (wipe cache & dalvik) to get your system apps back to normal. If you've flashed any mods or modified any system files then you'll lose those changes and you'll also need to reflash your kernel if you've flashed a different one.

Yeah I was gonna reflash the rom as a last resort. Just hoping there was some way I could undo changes tb made through recovery or something.
Hey. I need some help.
My phone doesn't pass the Google screen.
The device worked after installing JellyBam 6.6 and everything was great.
I turned it off after restoring few apps from TB, and then it didn't turned on to the ROM.
Before installing I wiped cache, devlik and data.
I can get to fastboot mod and from there to the recovery (TWRP 2.4.3.0).
Also I can use the toolkit.
What should I do??
It happend to my friend and he told me he wiped everything and installed stock,
but I don't want to format the internal storage as he did.
Should I just install the ROM again, backup and install another ROM?
Should I wipe system?
you restored system apps from TiBu, which is a bad idea.
reflash the rom/gapps then restore your data, but do not restore system apps.
I didn't restore many system apps.
I think only the clock, some app that I made as system one (Notification Toggle), the launcher,
Time zone and few minor things like thats.
Now I wiped cache, devlik and data again.
Should I just install the ROM now or should I wipe system before? (TWRP says it's inly wipe the ROM)
You have the rom in sd rite?
So just go to recovery abd wipe cache and data and system.
After that make a fresh install of the ROM. Let it boot up.
-Rik[Rittik]
doesnt matter. you restored system apps which can cause problems
wipe, reflash rom, restore only non-system apps/data

Just do a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and flash the ROM then the Gapps and reboot. You may not even need the factory reset though. Try without it first.
Already did factory reset..
What is system reset and when I need to use it?
If it's wiping the rom, shouldn't it done before changing one?
OH, I just realized I deleted the ZIP file from my device.

I've never done a system wipe. But I assume it wipes EVERYTHING. Meaning if you do that, you better flash something right after so you have something to boot to. Otherwise it will never boot and you will have to hook it up to a computer and flash a stock image and start over. I dont know if wiping the system will wipe your SD card as well. If all you did was changes some system apps and data around then a simple re-flash of the ROM should fix it. If its not then I'm going to say that there is something else wrong.
I don't have to ROM.zip on my device.
Can I somehow do this using Fastboot Mode and my PC?
I tried with OTG and DOK but it's not working :X
boot into recovery and use adb to push the rom to your device.
adb push c:\yourlocationofrom\rom.zip /sdcard/
Okay, I did it, but I can't find the file..
It says that the file passed..
I did "adb push D:/JellyBam.zip \sdcard\"
Where did the file moved to?
OK, got it!
I tried again with upsided / \ and it works.
THANKS A LOT!
working
So I shouldn't restore any system app?
Not even data?
And what about SMS, data usage and stuff like that?
Apps that I made as system app (Like notification toggle)
Launcher??

It depends on what ROM you were on when you made the backup. Are you coming from a different ROM? Because thats when you should NOT restore system stuff. Thats like trying to add stuff to the system that is not meant for the ROM. It doesnt take that long to set up all your settings manually. I would just stay away from restoring system stuff with Titanium Backup. There are apps that backup and restore your sms messages in the Play Store that work well. What launcher are you wanting to restore? If you made any app a system app previously, I would just restore it as a user app and THEN make it a system app again. Dont restore it directly as a system app. And before you do anything, make a backup of your ROM so you dont have to go through all this again.
I restored few things, but Data only.
Now there isn't a problem.
THANKS again for helping
Hi.
Using stock, rooted,s-off.stock kernel.
Recently battery life decreased, so I want to do a factory reset and start from scratch.
Went into twrp, selected wipe, and after the reboot the system start at setup screen and I get non stop FC of Google play.
I Had a nandroid backup, so I have restored it, and when system finish boot, I'm still getting this Google play FC.
Tried installing android revolution he 8.1 that I had as backup on my microsd, and after the boot finished everything is fine.
After that I tried restoring the nandroid backup, and this time I did not get this FC.
I have also tried reset via settings -backup and reset, and it will just get me into twrp recovery, tried only wiping user data, but FC saga continues.
Right now I have restored my nandroid back(by installing ARVHD 8.1 and restoring backup).
Anyone have any idea what could have happened and how to resolve that?
Any other way getting a clean system?
*I don't have access to a computer right now...
Thanks.
Tried flashing CWM recovery and doing the wipe from there, i'm still getting this google play FC
Try wiping playstore manually, 1 settings 2, scroll down to apps 3, find the playstore then clear cache & data, can then try unistall updates then try open the playstore again to see if that has helped.
