[Help] wireless hotspot/tether - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've searched this repeated times an I haven't found an answer.
I have a rooted epic. (Quantum rom)
I go to sprint hotspot and get error 67. So, I tried downloading wireless tether for root from the market. I ran it and couldn't connect. Can anybody reccomend an app. That will work or a solution for this? I have tried updating my profile. It did nothing it said updated and thre was no change (I tried this about 4 times) any thoughts?

There's another app called Barnacle Wifi Tether, my roomie uses it on his epic and loves it.
Epic is as Epic does

Wireless tether issues on rooted EVO?

Ok, I rooted my EVO in hopes of tethering it for free. I downloaded the wireless tether app and then proceeded. It seems to find the connection from my computer or other computers but when it connects I get the little yellow triangle in windows by the WiFi notification and it says identifying and never finds a connection. Any help is appreciated.

Same here. But I did get it to work once. I was trying everything and messing with the Enable Security via Setting, and then Access Controll configureations. I was flying along just fine, but once I went back in and "checked" the Enable Seecurity feature, it wouldnt' connect again, yellow triangle like you.
Running Myn'sWarmRLS2, BS6 kernel
Please give us more info. What rom are you using? What kernel? Which version of wireless tether are you using?
Uninstall whatever wireless tether app you are using and try this one. It should work.

Not necessarily. If he flashed a rom that has the stock HTC kernel, no version of wireless tether will work.
I used caulkins USB tether fix for stock rom a week or 2 ago. Don't think it fixes wireless though

Wireless Tethering not connecting...

Hey all,
Just rooted my Evo 2.2 with Unrevoked...installed Wireless Tether APK...when I click the app it comes up and I gave it superuser permissions...it will start tethering...when I try to connect to it with a laptop it can't identify network...and won't let me get on the internet...
is there something or some settings I need to change on the evo the laptops can connect? I see AndroidTether but it just keeps spinning and won't connect...THANK YOU!
In the Wireless Tether settings try changing the channel to one and see what happens. This fixed all my connectivity problems.
Didn't fix it yikes...the phone log doesn't even show things connecting...are you on 2.2 froyo?
Did you download it from the market? I've had trouble getting it to work that way. Try going to the developers website (link in market) and downloading the latest beta. That's always fixed my problems.

Using pre7 worked thanks

[Q] rooted, wireless tether connected but...

I have my EVO rooted and installed wireless tether. My G Tab I can see the (*)android tether but it wont obtain an IP address.
which version of wireless tether? pre8 and pre14 are working depending on phone hw version/sw version
mine wont work either, it last did on tuesday when i was using it, now has not today yet, i did upgrade from pre13 to pre14 to see if that would help, but to no avail, then i tried to upgrade further to pre15 and still nothing, having a feeling the flash update may have blocked whatever it was that allowed us to tether, but that is pure speculation, lol, wtf.
Just tried again to go from the evo to my tablet, and no go, tried to go from evo to laptop, no go, but device's detect but will not connect, on the evo it show's in wireless tether .4k down and .3k up, that is extremely lame, lol, someone please help figure this out.
Have you tried using Sprint hot spot? I access it free now that I am rooted....

it's not on the tab's side though, it's something to do with my evo, the evo itself is not working right.

WIFI Tethering stopped working

Some months ago I rooted my dad's dInc using the "unrevoked" tool, and I set him up with the Wireless Tethering app. Everything worked.
He tried to use it this past weekend for the first time in a while and it's no longer working. I tried Barnacle, and I have the same issue.
The network shows up, and a laptop can connect to it, but it says "no internet access", and it looks like it doesn't get an IP either.
The Wireless Tethering app never notifies that someone has connected either. Weird stuff...
I'm thinking one of the updates that HTC pushed to the phone broke something. Anyone have any suggestions?
Is it the newest version?

edit: Seems like I had to uninstall and reinstall newest version and now it's working =\. Fixed. Thanks..

Sprint hardware update = no wifi tether?

I was having signal go in and out at work all day yesterday, and it turns out Sprint was replacing a bunch of hardware in my area (Atlanta). Now, I cannot get wifi tether to work. My computer will connect, but it will not get internet. Wired tether works fine. I've tried the Sprint Hotspot in Calkulin's 3.0, and also the Hotspot in the ICS Goodness. I've also tried Open Garden, Wifi Tether for Root, and Fox__* (I can't remember the exact name).
It will not connect. Tried different roms, 3g/4g, resetting network ##72382# or whatever that code is, did a complete reset, tried different roms, etc.
The only thing I can conclude is that whatever Sprint updated here locally fixed this loophole for the hacked hotspot. Atlanta is an "A" market, and typically one of the first to get updated, so if this is the case, maybe nobody else is seeing it
Any ideas on what else I can try?? I need this wifi tether desperately.
have you tried foxfi?

I am not a dev, nor do I know a lot about anything. I seriously doubt changing tower hardware would "fix" a software workaround in a phone for internet sharing. I don't have an answer as to why or why not, but it sounds highly unlikely. I am speculating the two are not related.

Had this same problem about a year or so ago. Download "Root Checker" from Google Play. I forgot why but sometimes Root will be lost but your phone will say you are rooted. I don't remember the details. All you have to do is Root again if this is the case.
Try going into superuser app and updating the su binary, when mine get outdated sometimes wifi tether quits working but other root apps will still work.

Yes, no go on that one as well. No matter the program, I get the issue with my computer "unable to connect" on Windows 7, and also limited/no connectivity with Windows XP..
How can I generate a log to find out what's going on? I'm starting to get the feeling it has something to do w/ wifi driver, although wifi works fine, 4g works fine, 3g works, and wired tether works fine, I cannot get wireless tether to work with 3g or 4g..
Tried Sprint Hotspot, Wireless Tether (for root), Open Garden, Foxfi..

I agree, however, I'm assuming there's also an upgrade in software to go along with hardware changes, and they may have rolled something out at the same time. It could be a coincidence, but I've never had a problem before.

Ok, this is interesting. Do you all know if Wifi tether has always been ad hoc? I thought it used to show up as an AP in Windows.
Also, once I updated SU, my XP would connect to Wifi Tether only, but then tried the Win 7 and gave me the same "unable to connect" box. Now, neither of them work again.
Ideas? How to log, etc?
Do you all know now LAN settings would affect connectivity?
It seems Wired Tether uses 172.20.xx.xxx/30 while I believe the others were using 192.168.2.0 or 192.168.1.1, etc.
I'm in the Atlanta area (North West - Kennesaw/Acworth). I use WiFi Tether (the open source app not the built in), just tested it, I was able to connect and use the internet from my Nexus 7.

Foxfi is broken on the SE4GT since the ICS update.
Installation instructions (for Sprint Users):
1. Make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked in phone Settings (under Applications or Developer).
2. Tap on the following links to download the apk file for FoxFi.
3. From phone notifications select the downloaded file. This will install FoxFi.
FoxFi latest version: 1.91.3
*Support for the new Galaxy S3 and the new ICS update for Epic Touch are being worked on. Should be compatible soon in a future update.

As far as I know, the built in sprint hotspot is the only way to get infrastructure mode. All others are adhoc. If there is a setting for it for a profile, I think I remember reading somewhere to pick the galaxy nexus profile.
I just tried Wifi Tether in netd mode and it worked as Infrastructure. Client was Win7 x64.
Good to know too that I have a backup internet source if the main goes out. Not great but better than nothing.
