File explorer
Multitasking support
TouchXperience port taking benefit from Metro UI
Background customization
Contact manager
Communication manager
You can initiate connection from both PC and device (tap PC Synchronization in TouchXperience to etablish connection from device). You can connect via USB or Wi-Fi, but the first time you have to connect via USB so WP Device Manager can deploy TouchXperience and your device can get your PC IP address.
In the current version you can't manually set the PC or phone IP address to connect, or change default ports.
Make sure port 8007 is not blocked by firewall on PC and port 8107 is reachable on device.
When WP Device Manager initiate a connection and can't connect to the phone, in case you are connected via USB it will launch TouchXperience, in other cases it will send a push notification to your phone asking you to manually launch TouchXperience
Some tasks requires your phone screen to be unlocked
It is not necessary to have Zune runing in order to use WP Device Manager.
If WP Device Manager does not start at all, make sure you installed all the requirements and try to reinstall full .NET Framework 4.0 and developer tools.
If you are not able to connect or if some features are not properly working, go to Settings in WP Device Manager, click Restore default settings and eventually restart your PC.
If Windows Phone Device Manager is not able to communicate with TouchXperience, go to Settings in WP Device Manager, click Restore default settings and restart your PC. Try to temporarly disable your anti-virus or firewall programs to see if that's the problem. You can also try the registry fix in attachment
If you have connection problems, try the following may help: unplug/replug your phone, close or start Zune, restart WP Device Manager, make sure your device is detected by Zune, in worst case restart your PC.
WP Device Manager or some components of it may be considered as potential threat by anti-virus or firewall programs, this is a false alarm, you may need to add exceptions to your anti-virus or firewall may prevent WP Device Manager from working correctly.
WP Device Manger is automatically disconnected when you quit TouchXperience (for example when you launch an app or return to Start screen). This is not a bug, this is because TouchXperience is stopped due to the lack of native multitasking in WP7. To workaround you can enable multitasking in TouchXperience settings.
Tap on a menu title in TouchXperience and the main menu will show up
If you want to take screenshots of an other application on the phone you need to enable multitasking in TouchXperience settings
Some features needing high privileges on the phone (f.e. file system access) may not be available, this depends on the unlock level of your phone.
Applications installed with other tools than WP Device Manager are not recognized (they are identified by their id) on non-HTC device. To solve the problem you can simply browse your original XAP files, application info will be automatically cached and diplayed in the app manager.
If only sideloaded applications are displayed it's because your phone does not have full file system access.
Some application versions are incorrect. This is due to the fact that some developers does not update their application manifest with correct version number when they release new versions. To fix the problem you can check for app updates and click on Dismiss All assuming all your applicatons have been updated to their latest version.
You can't copy most of DLL and EXE in \Windows directory, this is simply because these are not files but modules.
You can check TouchXperience version in Settings or in WP Device Manager application list.
You should have a folder with device name in My Documents on your PC, place here the files you want to sync with the phone.
You can send toast notifications from any program on your PC using command line C:\Windows\WPDeviceManager\WPDeviceManager.exe /SendToast "message".
In order to use WP Device Manager from Windows Device Stage, you must have Windows 7 and driver signature verification disabled, unfortunately this is because Windows 7 recognize only digitally signed drivers.
Be carefull when using device restoration, incorrect usage or unexpected bugs may cause loss of data.
Don't use full backup/restore feature on custom ROMS!
If you get a message "Unable to launch TouchXperience" on custom ROMS it's because the ROM has some missing components, so you have to launch it manually.
Please uninstall any previously installed version of WP Device Manager and TouchXperience on your phone.
This beta is private for testing purpose, you are not allowed to redistribute it.

Awesome, will we be able to backup and restore with this?

From what I have seen @ WPpoweruser, only sending sms works?... I guess it will take long for a public version...

no questions asked, I am looking in the TX supporters forum for it and don't seem to find it oh well guess I will wait anxiously great job.

Ok I understand that sometimes Shaps shouldn't ad us too early and make us wait long to finally release tools who are not complet, at the risk to disappoint us.
But remember DFT make us wait 4 month before they release magldr.
WP7 is a new OS,there is still lot of work to do. Everyone here have a life, maybe a work, a wife and some kids behind the screen.
People like shaps are doing the best they can, and just for this don't blame it.
If you don't like his work, log off this topic.

All I am saying is why post this thread? Does the OP just want to taunt those that don't have the tool?
Really, you "just wanted to post updates on the Beta Testing" that everyone else is not privy too?
That is what's weak! Not Julien's work. He's doing real work! This thread is useless!!!!

The goal of xda developers is to post information regarding development. That includes development in alpha, beta, closed or open. How in the heck is this different than any of the launchers in android that haven't been released, the programs users are developing for wp7, or any sort of development not released?
xda is information and a place where users and develop interact to find solutions to common problems, where users can become developers, and inform users of development for their xda/samsung/wp/android device.
So why does this thread exist? it's x - d - fricking a! That's why! So if you have a problem with imfloflo (moderator) posting this topic, take it up to PM and don't clutter the topic of what you feel doesn't need to be here.
And yes that's what's WRONG with xda

@OP
If you are planning to release a free/lite version please let me know when it´s available for public, I may write about it

Guys please keep this thread on topic. Anymore arguments and such after this post will result in infractions, anymore after that, I will have to talk to the senior mods about handing out temporary bans. Please stop pestering the OP about when, and how the app release will be executed. It will be released when its ready. You don't take bread out of the oven 10 min before it is ready just because you are hungry, you take it out when its ready. Same goes for software development. So please be patient!
~~Tito~~
@OP Just get me on gtalk when you have problems, you know where to get my id.

@orb3000 i'm not the developers of this, you can find more information on the http://www.facebook.com/touchxperience page or on the official forum http://forum.touchxperience.com/
I think this apps will be free when final version comes.

Been following Schap's devving for some time now and gotta say its looking good
I fail to see what is wrong with this thread and i would suggest for all those people who are flaming/trolling/moaning that they consider what XDA-DEVS is actually all about; that being a developer forum
Now hopefully i dont need to explain myself any further and therefore i would respectfully request that you please review our rules for avoidance of doubt. If the whinging continues infractions will be issued.
Many thanks for your understanding, if any of you wish to discuss this any further then please feel free to PM me and NOT clutter this thread.
Regards and enjoy your weekend,
Tim.

A bit off topic, but what would you consider a fair donation? I'm not a rich man in fact i'm very poor but would like to contribute and test this app without offending with a too small donation.

[APP]Hydros 8.0: Media sync utility for Windows Mobile - Beta 4 with touchless sync!!

CURRENT VERSION NUMBER: 8.0 Beta 4
Hydros Media Center[/CENTER]
Catcher
Are you tired of the same old boring activesync of wmdc for your Windows mobile device? All of us who have used Microsoft’s so-called sync utility know that it’s nothing compared to their Zune software which they have created. Anyway, you’re now in luck. I have finally gotten to the edge of my patience trying to sync up my phone with their software and ive started making my own replacement for it. Currently, Hydros Sync Center supports being used as a normal music player as well as a device sync utility. Due to it being only a beta, you will not be able to transfer files with the phone, but already it is much more user friendly than the old Activesync. All you need to do to install is unzip the package and run the setup.exe installer.
Side Note:
For those of you who don't know what im doing, im trying to make an efficient media player for windows which interacts with windows mobile nicely. As a model, im using many things and features which have been included in Zune Software 4.0. Anyway, I have been working on this alone for a long time and I think it's time to reveal this to the public for some help as well. I would like to post the source code somewhere but im not sure exactly what the process is so please help me on that if you can.
Features so far:
-Settings panel added to beta 4
-View songs on device
-Splash Screen
-Sync With box.net
-Music Library
-Pictures Library
-Apps Bazaar
-Device Support [NEW for Alpha release 4] - you can add and remove songs now
-You can now delete files [New to Alpha release 4] - works now
-WIDGETS [updated interface for beta 4]
Alpha Release 6 - 5/24/10-First ever widget (facebook widget) - lets u chat to facebook within the app
-Fixed the full-screen issue
-Fixed issue of dissappearing songs
DOWNLOAD LINK FOR ALPHA 6: http://www.mediafire.com/?2nlz2yuznhn
Alpha Release 4 - 5/20/10
-Added the ability to add and remove songs in library and device library
-Fixed the comment dialog to show up (it notifies you of any things that are important...like a device being connected)
-Still uses activesync dll so you still need activesync to be installed
(and i cant distribute the dll due to legal issues)
-More stable than before (also faster)
--DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW--
Alpha Release 3 - (5/19/10)-Just added device support (just getting started with it)
-added device song playback
-unfortunately still haven't found a way to connect to device without RAPI (the activesync dll) so it still needs activesync to be atleast installed
-Fixed issues with resolutions under 1333x768 (all over 1024x768 is ok)
-modified the layout of bazaar
-Enjoy!
-Fixed the bug of not having an x button (lol)
*Download link Below*
BIG IDEA I NEED HELP FOR
-In order to keep things away from Microsoft ActiveSync, I need to eliminate the who idea of using RAPI as an interface for communication, so I decided that the easiest other method is to impliment my own thing based on TCP. I tried some stuff with TCP and it's actually quite fast, and it allows WIFI SYNC!!!
-Anyway, the part i need help with is the wired sync. With TCP, i need it to be under a wifi so for those devices without TCP, im not sure how to use the COM port it's recognized as for doing TCP transfers. If you have any other recommendations, please do comment below.
-APP IS CODED IN C# so please do consider that when posting code. I am also familiar with other languages but i would prefer this (anything is welcome though).
THANK YOU

Oops...
Im sorry. i think you misunderstood me. This app is meant for the computer and it syncs up with the phone....maybe i forgot to say that
Anyway, so far, the player only plays stuff. it doesn't have device support yet. I am releasing a new version tonight which may have device support.
Great to know this!

nope. im trying to keep it as simple of a UI as possible so so far, there is no background image but i will make the next version so the user can choose themes and add their own image. I just updated it and it now has device support (very very minimal though) but you can now view stats about your winmo device, and you can view the songs in it.
-Ill post up pics as well in a few mins.
DOWNLOAD IS ATTACHED TO THIS POSTedit: link removed due to a stupid bug ill fix in a min.
EDIT: reposted in the first post.....that was a close one...
Edit: pictures posted as well...enjoy
Flashing a ROM
Is it possible to use this application to Flash my phone like I normally do via Active sync?
how do you flah your phone with activesync? you would need access to firmware...however, you CAN flash your phone (not yet though) but ill add that feature in...
EDIT: can anybody please test and respond if this app works for them? if so ,please post up your system specs...
just posted alpha release 4. check it out now!
Doesn't work it crashes as soon as I launch the app.

WP7 Device Manager - Looks great

Just wanted to make sure all you guys saw this, it looks like it could be incredibly cool and useful.
The dev behind touchxperience is planning to release - in the next few days - a Windows application that will hopefully "manage your device, install and uninstall sideloaded apps, explore the handset, transfer and sync files. Even more, it will also be able to unlock the device upon first connect without the need of the unlocker if it detects a locked/non-developer device.
There's also a WiFi sync and transfer feature being teased to transfer files to the smartphone and back to your computer. Among the ambitions of the developer is also an open marketplace for non-commercial applications in case the project becomes popular and there will be demand."
From PocketNow, check out the site at http://www.touchxperience.com/

[XAP] [Source] IE Search Switcher 1.3.2

Tuesday 4 April:
It looks like Samsung support is still broken. Feel free to continue testing and reporting any issues, but it looks like I'll need to try a few different things. HTC and LG still work, of course.
UPDATE 1.3.2 - Saturday 2 April:
I've added some more checks to the registry write code. If you're not sure if the app is working for you (i.e. Samsung device owners) please try it and report what happens when you switch search options, or install a new option. If you get a messagebox indicating success, you're good to go. If it indicates failure, please tell me what the message was. Also, if it indicates failure the first time, try hitting Save again, and see if you get the same result.
UPDATE 1.3.1 - Saturday 2 April:
There may have been a bug in the way I was implementing registry access via the RIL Client COM control. Based on comparisons with some code known to work, I think this bersion might actually do it. This is of course untested - I don't have a Samsung device handy - but it may actually work. If not, PLEASE let me know what happens!
Also, this app officially *does* work on HTC phones using NoDo. I don't expect NoDo to break anything, but if it used to work and now doesn't, please let me know whether you've updated since it last worked.
Sorry for the long delay between versions. I've been working on something extremely exciting: an app to allow people to back up the important data on their phones (application storage, documents, and other things that don't automatically sync) to a PC, and restore it. I'll put a thread on here when it's ready to publish. In the meantime, if anybody has a way to get filesystem access on anything but HTC phones, *PLEASE* contact me!!
If it works for your Samsung device, PLEASE post a reply saying so! That would be very exciting news. If it doesn't, please check the error that appears. If it's the same as in this post, just say so. If not, please post at least the first few lines of the error so I know what happened.
DESCRIPTION:
A tool for quickly changing the search engine used when you hit the hardware Search button from within IE. You can use the search provider that comes configured on your phone, the built-in Bing app, or any other providers you've manually added. You can also add and use the mobile search page from Google, Yahoo, or Bing.
NOTE 1: This app does not change the search app used outside of IE! It only changes what happens when you're in Internet Explorer, and hit the Search button or enter something that isn't a valid URL in the location bar. If anybody figures out how to change Search button behavior anywhere else, please let me know!
NOTE 2: This app can not cause the search button to launch another app, aside from the pre-installed Bing search! It can only open a URL, not an app. I'd like to enable launching other apps, but that's a bigger project than I have time for at the moment.
TO INSTALL:
This app is not in the Marketplace and therefore requires a developer-unlocked device. You can unlock your device if you have a Marketplace account, or with ChevronWP7.
Download the ZIP file at the bottom of this post.
Extract the XAP file under \IESearchSwitcher\Bin\Release\.
Deploy the XAP file to your phone.
TO USE:
From the Applications list, run the "IE Search Switcher" app.
Select the search provider that you want to use from the drop-down.
Press the Save button to change your search provider.
If the provider you want is not listed, hit the Add button to install more options.
In the Add view, select an option from the drop-down and hit Install.
You can hit Refresh to see what provider is currently set.
TO REMOVE:
Press-and-hold on the application in the list, then hit "uninstall".
This will NOT change or reset your IE search option. It will stay as last set until changed again.
Coming features:
Samsung support (maybe 1.3.1?)
Ability to add your own search providers
Ability to edit or delete existing providers
Support for Dell and other OEMs (if possible)
Ability to launch apps other than Bing when you hit Search (if possible)
Supported devices:
HTC HD7: Tested, works
HTC, other: Reported working
Samsung: May work as of 1.3.1, please test!
LG: Reported working as of 1.1.0
Dell: Unknown, unlikely to work
Other: Unknown, unlikely to work
SAMSUNG USERS: I'm trying to support your phones, but the problem is very confusing. As best I can tell, the technique I've been using has worked successfully in other apps. I'm trying something different for 1.3, so please test it out and let me know what happens!
THIS IS STILL A BETA! If something doesn't work, PLEASE post a comment in this thread with your device, what you were trying to do, and what exception message you got. If there was no exception, just explain what didn't work. THANK YOU!
FOR DEVELOPERS: The full source code for the app is included. I've also added some improvements to the Homebrew library from when I downloaded it. It's from the source for the WebServer project, and is copyright Dave Amenta. If you want to use it to make your own apps, be sure to include the following:
DLLs. Check the ReadMe.txt in the Homebrew project for more info.
WPInteropManifest.xml
The capability ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES in WMAppManifest.xml
Version history:

1.0.0.0 Initial Release (27 Jan 2011)
Not working on my T-Mobile Germany branded OMNIA 7.
Error: Unable to load provider options !
not work with my focus in chinamobile, thanks all the same.
works good on a htc hd7
ps , thanks for the source code .
Doesn't work LG optimus7 telus
Thanks for the reports, folks. Sorry to hear about the non-HD7 problems; the only phones I can physically test on are HD7s. Sounds like registry read on other devices is having issues. Sadly, this doesn't surprise me after the issues I had getting it working at all.
I'll make sure that the necessary libraries are included and that the error messages are as informative as possible (please mention the exception you get, it really helps the debugging). I'll have another version up tonight (Pacific time).
OK, Samsung and LG support should work for real this time. I was missing a couple of DLLs that are required for native access on those devices. Please try again.
Adding of new search options (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) coming soon. Please feel free to suggest search engine options that you'd like to have built-in to the app. (For example, Baidu perhaps?)
doesn't work with Lg Optimus 7
doesn't work with HD2
Ouch... the LG should have worked but I can't really test. An HD2 (running WP7) should be functionally identical to an HD7, which definitely works.
Any chance you guys could describe the error you're getting? I'll need to find somebody with anything other than an HD7 to test on other devices.
Note that the app won't actually do anything until/unless you hit the Save button on the bottom bar. Just changing the option in the drop-down then pressing Back will have no effect (if that's what you're seeing).
Don't work in Samsung Omnia 7.
This is the error at the launch :

That's all ... =)
Of all the exceptions I wasn't expecting, OutOfMemeory is the one I was expecting least... ;-) I mean, I'm trying to read the contents of a single string in a single registry value. The program's memory usage should be measured in KB, most likely.
Anyhow, thanks for the info! I'll look into this when I get home tonight.
Oddly enough, this is not in a Samsung-specific API. It's part WindowsCERegistry, which is read-only but should be cross-platform. It's also not the first time that the program calls a registry read function (although it might be the first call to GetStringValue).
Would you be willing to run a XAP with a bunch of extra debugging messages enabled to try and nail down the location of the issue?
Hi,
tested on Samsung Omnia 7:
1. Changed to bing search
2. Press 'Save' button
3. Application exits at
Code:
SamsungInterop.IHybridInterface_FCRProxy.RegistrySetString()
There's no exception thrown at
Code:
SamsungRegistry.SetStringValue()
tested on my optimus 7, the only provider that i've in drop-down menu is bing? how to select google?
thank!

have the same problem
Sorry about the delay folks, it's been a busy weekend.
Currently the app only lets you switch between alread-installed providers. In most cases that will be one of either Bing or Google, plus the built-in Bing app (always available).
I'm adding support for putting in more providers. The app will include some pre-defined options (both Google and Bing, probably Yahoo, other suggestions are welcome) and the ability to create your own (maybe you *really* love the Firefox Start page?)
I was planning on nailing cross-device support first, but that's being surprisingly difficult at the moment (I may be able to get Samsung support by incorporating a different library than the one I've been using) so I haven't been focusing on this feature, but the code is halfway written already and could be finished quickly.
Could sure use Google search, bing sucks bad
Can only choose between bing app or search.
Doens't find the google app for some reason, it is installed though.
Using Mozart T-Mo Germany 16GB.
@megaprime: Sorry about the delays, but I'll have an update with the ability to add Google (or other options) soon.
@Aerox: It's not currently possible to have it start a different app, such as Google. It can either start the built-in Bing app, or go to a website (such as m.google.com). As I told megaprime, I'll have an update with the ability to add such sites ASAP.
Also, sounds like it works (so far as it's currently able to) on the HTC Mozart? That's good.

..::H.O.W...T.O...N.A.T.I.V.E::..
Hello,
today I had decided to start this thread about native development for WP7.
At the current moment I don't upload/attach any working stuffs to this message. It will happen a bit later, after new DFT ROMs release. This is because it's very difficult to run them for now.
Let's start from current achieved results:
1) It's possible to run any EXE files (after "FullUnlock")
2) Those EXE files can do any operations in the system (after "FullUnlock")
3) It's possible to show some GUI from this applications. But GUI has legacy Windows CE style, it's impossible to create Metro-style applications for now.
How can it be used by community?
We can develop a lot of homebrew applications: like porting emulators, old native applications, video players and etc.
It can be possible to port famous TCPMP player for example and get ultimate playback on Windows Phone 7!
Is it possible to run old Windows Mobile 6.5 applications without modifications?
No, it's not possible. A lot of different APIs are missing for those applications.
Is it hard to modify old Windows Mobile 6.5 applications?
Well, it's almost same like porting to pure Windows CE, but a lot of Windows CE stuffs are "damaged" inside Windows Phone. They just doesn't work right, because nobody never used/tested them before
Photos of sample "WP7 Native test"
Information for developers you can find in the next messages.
So I will release demo WP7 native application, when we fix issues with FullUnlock.
Demo will be as binary EXE file. And as VS2008 project, which can be good start point for other developers.
Now this thread dedicated for discussion, share ideas and thoughts.

Information about "FullUnlock"
Information about "FullUnlock"
DevUnlock actually allows only to deploy XAP files from external sources.
It doesn't give more privileges.
So we (DFT) developed "FullUnlock". FullUnlock is implemented as replacing some system files by wrappers, which allows any kind of access (disable access checking at all)
We replace LVMOD.DLL which used to check files and data (checksums, certificates and etc) and POLICYENGINE.DLL which implements internal objects access checking.
All written before means that FullUnlock at the current moment only possible by flashing custom ROM to device. In future maybe we can find good ways to do it without flashing, but for now I don't see any ideas how to do it without flashing.
Maybe we can replace DLLs inside \Windows\ directory (put a shadow copy), but I am not sure if it will work really. It's stuffs for future experiments.
It can be possible to do something near by editing policy values, but it need big research to find right way. As it still won't disable file checking, maybe we can add own certificate to right store and then sign files with them.
The last DFT 7720 MANGO ROMs contains FullUnlock, but it doesn't work as expected there few issues. as well some users got issues with debugging on those ROMs and etc. We will continue work under it
So I will release demo WP7 native application, when we fix issues with FullUnlock.
Demo will be as binary EXE file. And as VS2008 project, which can be good start point for other developers.
Now this thread dedicated for discussion, share ideas and thoughts.

(users do not read! danger for brain!)
First of all I want to talk about abilities of native code.
Most applications built in inside WP7 are native. But they don't use usual Dialog UI style, they are using some kind of Silvelight scripts. This kind of UI is called "UIX".
Main idea of UIX that DLL files have UIX resources inside which describe whole UI.
Something similar is used inside CE 7.0 Slivelight - there some xml compiler which make binary data and put them as resources inside DLL. I don't know how to decode this binary data.
Seems Zune desktop application also using this framework.
So UIX used some kind of scripts for UI part and callbacks for all actions.
If we decode this UIX format, we will able to change/modify UI as we want, like it was before with regular resources inside DLL. But UIX must be much more powerful.
We can't use UIX for native application because we don't know how to use it, how to make proper binary data and etc. It's hard to reverse.
But native application can have some GUI with Windows CE style (you can see examples on the photos above)
Another issue: If you call API function "CreateWindowW" you won't see anything on the screen. It seems because shell handle all output, so window doesn't visible.
After some searching I found inside some test ROM nice DLL called "WindowTreeUpdater.dll". After looking inside and decoding functions parameters, it's working!
Basic idea: you create window and call function from this DLL and Window appear on the screen. There seems some kind of proxy engine to output legacy windows on top of shell output.
Nice, it's working...
So we can use usual windows for UI inside native application.
There present standard controls, but they work rather laggy (hey, and looks too).
Basic controls like PushButton, Static, CheckBox, Radiobutton, Icon are working.
About extended controls: (Progress bar, list view, and etc)
they come from Commctrl.dll usually, it was present inside Initial/NODO releases, ut it was removed inside MANGO. I was able to run NODO Commctrl.dll under MANGO after some modifications. But all this controls are shown on screen, but they don't do anything on input. So you can see toolbar, but can't press any button.
CommDlg.dll is missing and never was inside WP7.
There present AYGSHELL.DLL, but most functions are broken. For example, I was not able to create menu bar.
So, a lot of functions are broken, like MessageBox not working.
But we still can create own custom controls and use them for developing.
For example porting TCPMP means that we will need reimplement UI fully - because toolbar doesn't work. slider also won't. Maybe get and reuse some source from ReactOS or NT40 CommCtrl

For now it's only for HTC devices with flashing custom ROM
The UIX/UIB scripts are a real pain.. I tried going through them a while back to change the annoying notification system (10 seconds? Really, Microsoft?) and figured it would all boil down to the usual XML-style script that WM6.5 and other MS products use, but the format is newer and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to decompile them.
From what I do know, however, is that it's more of an encoding than a compilation, and can be decoded if we can figure out what all the different headers mean... but that's a serious reverse engineering project.
Keep it up.is it possible to add Samsung device into support list?
Great work! Are there any multitasking restrictions for these apps? presumably because they are not Silverlight they will not be present in the task switcher & the app will be in charge of when the process terminates?
Looking forward to doing some nice low-level operations - hopefully this will open a whole new world for WP7 dev

I would suspect that they won't be killed unless there's an Out of Memory issue (you can see the whitelists for that in the registry), because these processes are not like the silverlight/xna apps that are launched in Taskman.exe. Whether they show up in multitask lists, idk, but they probably won't be killed in the traditional way..

yes...
maybe it's precompiled XAML scripts, like inside Managed applications?

Plain EXE can run without restrictions, but I guess it will be killed at OOM condition still. EXE with window seems all a bit more complex. When I press back button it usually disappear after few seconds. I think window got WM_CLOSE or something at that moment. It should be researched more in the future.
Furthermore, I forgot to say: Interesting thing, before MANGO WP7 supports native XAP files too!
There was few files nativeinstaller* which implements native installation. There references inside for setup.dll and _setup.xml like in old CAB files.
But it was removed from MANGO seems

Would we be able to install an old application like fpsece for windows mobile? One of the biggest things I miss about windows mobile! I get paid today so I will be making a donation for your hard work! I'm currently using your custom rom on my HD7! Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

[XAP|Source] Marketplace Config - Easily change marketplace settings

Here is an app I made to quickly and easily change marketplace settings. Similar apps exist already, but this one has a few features I've not seen in the other ones. This project was more of a way for me to learn about homebrew dev, but it resulted in a useful program so nothing wrong with that
Source
This app is open source. It is hosted on Google Code. If anyone would like to help contribute, PM me and we'll discuss getting you added.
What you can do
Change OEM marketplace - You can choose from any of the 8 OEM stores, or view a combined market with all 8 at the same time.
Change MO marketplace - I'm working on getting as many as possible included. The app will ask kindly to submit if yours is a new one.
Change the maximum file size cap over 3g - Download larger apps and podcasts over 3G without needing a wifi connection
Lock the settings - Prevents your settings from reverting back in a day or two when the marketplace updates itself
Who can run this?
You need a root unlock. So either a full unlock or WP7 Root Tools with this app marked as Trusted.
Changelog
Beta 2.0.3 - 6/7/12 - Going off of the error reports I received from yesterday's release, I added better error handling to hopefully alleviate those problems.
Beta 2.0.2 - 6/6/12 - Added a better error handler. Users are now prompted with the option to submit bug reports, so I may better track down issues.
Beta 2.0.1 - 6/4/12 - Fixed a bug that would cause the app to crash if no MO store was configured on the device. The app also informs you if it's not set to Trusted in WP7 Root Tools.
Beta 2 - 5/31/12 - After spending too much time working on a rewrite, the next beta is ready. I've changed a ton of things under the hood, but the big new feature is viewing all OEM markets at the same time. I've also released the source as of this version, though I am not speaking for it's quality. Some parts are more polished than others.
Beta 1.4 - 5/2/12 - Added a few new mobile operators. Added country flags to MO selection screen. Fixed more crashed.
Beta 1.3 - 5/1/12 - Added a slew of new mobile operators, along with an option to remove it (for contract-free phones, direct from OEM, etc)
Beta 1.2 - 4/29/12 - Fixed crashing bug. Added Telekom MO (thanks contable). Added OEM logos.
Beta 1.1 - 4/28/12 - Removed device spoofing (it can break DRM, thanks for the heads up GoodDayToDie). Added Sprint MO.
Beta 1 - 4/28/12 - Initial release
Thanks to
Heathcliff74 for the wonderful WP7 Root Tools SDK
GoodDayToDie for his homebrew efforts, which I use for file IO
balcsida for providing new icons
It doesn't launch on my Titan...so it will probably need a higher level of unlock than a Dev unlock.
You'll need "root" unlock, meaning either full-unlock or WP7 Root Tools and the app marked as "Trusted".
@ken52787: Very cool! I was actually working on something very much like this. Would you mind sharing your source code? If I can merge what I was working on into what you've already got, that would be great.
One very big concern, though: changing the OEM name in DeviceTargetingInfo (which is what I assume you're doing to make apps like Nokia Drive work) is extremely dangerous. Although I'm not sure exactly what the trigger is (suggestions have been things like leaving it changed for more than 24 hours, or changing it more than 5 times), changing that value can permanently break the Marketplace DRM on your phone. All your Marketplace apps will stop launching, and you won't be able to install more. The only solution we know of is a hard-reset or a restore point; returning the registry value to the original OEM name does not help.

Yikes! I was not aware of this. I took that out and reupped the xap.
And yes, I'll share the source soon, I just want to clean it up a bit first since it's rather sloppy at the moment

The initial beta is a little rough around the edges, but should be stable. Please report any oddities you notice and provide feedback and suggestions.
What you can do
Change OEM marketplace - Included are Acer, Dell, Fujitsu, HTC, LG, Nokia, Samsung, and ZTE (although only HTC, LG, Nokia, and Samsung have accessible marketplaces)
Change MO marketplace - Included are AT&T, Orange, Sprint, and Verizon (I had a hard time finding other marketplaces. If you are on a carrier other than these, please send me your settings so I can include them, the program will automate this for you with your permission)
Change the maximum file size cap over 3g - Download larger apps and podcasts over 3G without needing a wifi connection

What kind of unlock do you have?
curious... why are XAPs being posted in this sub-forum when their is a WP7 Software Development sub-forum?
nice looking app, though. curious as to how you 'locked' the Market.
would love to add that into my version of this app, Market Select.
The Software Development sub-forum always seemsed more focused on general app development rather than tweaks to the OS. Last time I was reading that forum, it seemed like it was mostly stuff using the official APIs, too. Maybe I should start reading it again, though...
You can lock in changes to Marketplace configurations by setting read-only on the XML files.
@OP: Thanks for the quick fix, and you're welcome for the tip! The 1.1 version works well on my phone. Two (related) suggestions, though:
1: The messageboxes the pop up at first run block the UI from loading. If the UI doesn't load within a few seconds (10 or so) the OS will kill the app. You may want to cause them to pop up on a delay or something...
2: There's no option to send your MO (or OEM) files after the initial messagebox prompt. I'd like to send you the T-Mobile US files (not that the TMoUS apps are super-exciting) but the app was killed on me before I could click it! I can go pull them off the filesystem manually, of course...
Thx for this app.
I have sent you the settings for Telekom Germany (T-Mobile DE), would be nice if you could add them...

App works good on my hd7. Although during first run it made a backup. Then asked me if I wanted to sent my carrier setting since you don't have them. I was going to then the app crashed and never gave me the option again. App runs fine other than the first run when it crashed.

You need a full unlock or root access with WP7 Root Tools. Dev unlock is not enough (the phone doesn't like me messing about in the file system)
Also, I just posted an update. No changes other than adding a bunch of new MOs. Thanks to everyone who submitted them! I have some ideas for beta 2, if only I could find some time to work on it I also plan on releasing the source when I get that version out.
Using 1.3 with Samsung Focus... Set the Trust to ON through RootTools as well.
I Get the "an error occured while reading your current store config".
If i click on OK application shows the main screen briefly and then exists. Otherwise shows the following error:::
CreateFile failed for \My Documents\Zune\PimentoCache\Keepers\LKKG_MOStoreConfig.xml! GetLastError: 2
Thanks.
You're sure it's two Ks ("LKKG_MOStoreConfig.xml")? That's a typo, then. It would explain why you're getting an error of File Not Found as well.
