[Q] Marketplace background images - Windows Phone 7 General

Is it just me or has the background image not changed on the wp7 market in awhile.
I've been stuck with Rise of Glory for awhile now. I'm starting to think that it may have something to do with my "hacked" phone or something I changed. Anyone else experiencing this? If not any guesses on how I fix whatever I did?

I just saw today the background changed.

Hmmm... well it would appear that I borked something then since mine definitely did not change today.

It will randomly change...

Thats what I'm getting at, it isn't randomly changing and hasn't for awhile now.

I think you have the same problem I had
I was like "hum strange, I thought the MP background change randomly according to the new/popular apps". Then 1 month later, some app needed an upgrade and I couldn't do it in any ways... I had an error about a licence problem. The MP background still hadn't changed. The number of updated app had increased and I didn't find any solution about that problem. I figured something out, the version of the app that needed to be updated was the same as the actual but in Zune it was the new one (and once you download an app on your phone you cannot download it via Zune... haha -_-)!!
So I did a hard reset....... And now it works fine. I think the marketplace crashed on my phone (that's too bad you cannot uninstall the marketplace right? ).

Market doesn't display all downloaded items

Hi!
I'm referring to the "Downloads" tab in the Market app.
I've been noticing of late that it isn't listing the apps that I have been downloaded thus far. It displays one/two/three items that 've been downloaded (no specific time line, either). Furthermore, sometimes, it also tends to display an app which has already been removed.
It this normal? Has anyone observed something similar?
Would like to hear your opinions...
Can't say I've had it happen on my Desire. Off the top of my head, some questions that pop up:
- Are you running a custom ROM of any sort?
- Have you enabled any forced "install to SD Card" option (2.2 only)?
- Is it always the same apps that have this disappearing act, or different ones each time?
You could also try clearing the data of the Market app, see if that helps.
Thank you for your response, @Dragoon Knight.
- Nope. Running an unrooted FroYo (WWE ROM)
- Hmmm, well, I did perform a tweak using SDK: to install apps straight to SD card.
- It's different each time. I have a total of 9 apps - and all are installed on the SD unit.
Noticing this was purely by chance. I guess this was not the case - say a week ago?
Been two weeks since I purchased my device, btw. It is my first Android handset. Dunno if it helps, but it came with an Arab-region specific ROM. I "flashed" and installed a WWE ROM while performing a manual upgrade to FroYo.
As I said, I have been noticing this 'issue' (if it can be called so) over the past three-four days. Weird, nain?
It's connected to the app direct to sd fix I think!
Did It to mine earlier this week and now it keeps happening.
I did notice if I reboot the phone and not open the market for around 30 mins they seem to appear!
Hope that helps a bit!

try clearing the market data in manage applications
@The_real_dj
"It's connected to the app direct to sd fix I think!" - can you please elaborate?
@AndroHero
Didn't work.
EDIT:
Guess what? I have this habit of charging the mobile after turning it off. I turn it on, voila! All apps are listed.
But after a few hrs... Again - back to randomly listed apps.
Not that it bothers me all that much (but yes, it does keep poking me now and then)... Just that I am hoping all this is NOT a sign of things to come. :/ :?
I've had this issue for a couple of months now. The apps in the Market's "Downloaded" section come and go. Sometimes they're all there, sometimes just a few of them. Clearing the Market's cache and/or data don't seem to help much. A bit annoying, but I can live with it
Ah, so I'm not alone.
Of course, am sure we can live with it. But it is a pesky annoyance. :/
Glad that someone else has noticed this. 'Cos, serious or not, I haven't seen this "issue" addressed.
Thank you for adding to the conversation, @MapleDouglas.
Got the same problem too. Just randomly comes and goes. At least I haven't noticed a pattern yet.
At one point it was getting annoying as it lasted a couple of days.
The Market issue addressed here applies frequently to apps that have been shifted to the SD card. Is this the case with your phones as well?
You can try the AppBrain app - this app can cope with apps on the SD card as well.
I had mine do this too yesterday and I have the setInstallLocation2 mod..

- Ah! I never quite observed that. Well, for now, only one app is missing from the list and it has been moved to the SD card. In fact, the other apps that are being displayed were either moved or force-installed to the SD card.
What's the App you're talking about? How will it help?

No use.

maybe marketplace is acting up.
You need to be logged in to windows live on phone and computer i believe.
I've seen that message occasionally. Generally power cycling the phone solves it.

it's hasn't worked for me, i have reset my phone 3 times so far with countless power down cycles.
I have a sr with ms to see what's going on. I can download free apps but not paid apps, music, games etc.
waiting to hear from MS, lets see what happens.
I get this error from time to time when my Omnia switches from 3G to WiFi (and vice versa) A power cycle seems to be the only way to fix it.
same problem????????????
Have you enable cookies via settings? Try to uncheck that box, restart your phone and check it again.
May be also operator/network problem.
Very common thing indeed.
Check the regional settings on the device, on the computer with the Zune software and in your live account. If they are not the same you get this error message. I had the same problem and I was able to solve it due to the change of this settings.
I hope it will work for you too
i got this problem too! nothing you guys said has worked any other ideas?
Same problem here, looks like there is something going on with market.
Seems to be working now! i uninstalled some apps but could have been that it just decided to start working
that seems to be the fix. it was happening when the phone was trying to update the trial versions of apps. the only way to fix the problem is to delete the free trials... but that was a like a week ago n i havent ran into the problem again
Read in MS support forum there was some sever adjustment.

Hmm... is zune marketplace down?

First time I've had issues with it. It will let me get to the point where I select try or buy but then when I go to verify it just continuously loads. I tried afterwards on the PC and it just says none of the above items are available for purchase. This was initially found on the moron test but I am having the same issue occur with all apps.
I had that happen about a week ago on the weekend. Come Monday, the market started working again.

Neither could I. And some of the apps were paid apps that needed updating. It was quite annoying. But I was glad to see it working again come that Monday, without the need to do a hard reset.
yup, having that issue here too, i think it's tied to either your account, or your location... not quite sure why tho...
I have had issue with market place a couple of times. Mostly the update won't succeed and I'll need to delete the app then install it again.
Having the same problem here to. Can't update or download apps (sweden).
I'm having the same problem on the phone and trying to install from the Zune PC marketplace.
Me too
yes, same in Dalian China from 19th Mar.
I tried to install apps from Zune on my PC but got error "None of the selected items is available for purchase". Anyway it worked well before. And then I tried to install using marketplace on my Focus but got another error "Can't get this info right now. Check back in a little while."
Some Chinese uses got same error, but some can still download/install apps from marketplace. So it's very strange issue. Is it related to my live id?
Anyone can help on this? I only found US ZUNE support number but I cannot dial.

Just wait a day. Monday will bring it back to normal. It effects users at different times. MS might be doing some kind of tuning to the market to help refine it. At least that's what I rationalize it to be.
It's working this morning, I was able to download a few free apps and buy some songs without any issues.
I still have the Problem, and also never got that pre-nodo update... Truly sucks...

[Q] phone downloading 80+ megs every night

About a week ago my phone started downloading 'something', about 80 megs of something, every night. It must happen in the middle of the night, I've never been awake to witness it happen. When I look at my phone in the morning I have no system messages, nothing indicated in download manager, basically no hint that anything had happened. I would not have noticed had I not been checked my data usage with my provider.
3G Watchdog attributes it to "Downloads / Media Storage / DRM Protected Content Storage / Download Manager". I have no idea what is afoot here. I don't remember much changing in the last week except for the Market update that was pushed out. No ROM changes or anything radical like that.
Look for advice how to isolate this and make it stop.
HTC Desire Z running Gingervillain 1.5
Thanks in advance.
There's nothing like a podcatcher that runs at night? Or maybe updates? Hmm...
Not that I am aware of. And I hoped that 3G Watchdog would tell if that was the case (I only installed it last week, to try and sort out this problem.)
I have my market updates set to manual. I'm not subscribed to any media services as far as I know. And this is the same amount of data every night. Is there any possibility I'm received an OTA Android update or something that my phone doesn't know what to do with?
I tried *#*#4636#*#* but could not figure out how to get any bandwidth usage stats out of it, so for now this is all the detail I have.

If you don't have any podcast apps installed and set up to run, or anything obvious like that) you could always mount your media card on your computer and sort by date to see what's new.

Thanks, good idea. I just did a complete search via USB connection (I assume this only checks the SDCARD and not the phone's internal memory?) and I can't find anything new from the last few days. There were no new media files except for a few photos I had taken, and no large system files or anything I couldn't explain.
It definitely doesn't seem like I'm lost 80 megs of storage every day, I probably would have noticed that (maybe.)

Only thing I can think then is to check your sync settings and make sure all the apps you've installed since this has happened are from trusted sources (a few botnets have shown up in Android recently); that and go through your list of installed apps to see if there's anything there that you didn't install (note: there is a rogue app that is listed as 'System' but doesn't have the default Android system icon out there).
Does the app that caught this distinguish (damn, how do you spell that word?) between something actually being downloaded and just general network traffic? Your device may just be hammering the towers for a better signal or something like that.

Actually, there's a means to do this in Spare Parts
Dial *#*#4636#*#* (or launch Spare Parts if you have it installed)
Click Usage Statistics
Click Battery history
Click the Other usage dropdown
Click network usage
Since this is happening at night, you'll need to reboot before bed and then select "since boot" to see what happened overnight.

I just eyeballed all of my applications and I don't see anything I don't recognize. Nothing called System. A few system-ish things where I don't know what they do, but they all have Android icons.
I did have all untrusted applications selected because I installed the Amazon app store a while ago.
The Watchdog app seems to indicate the downloaded data is happening all at once, it's not cumulative data from the day, I can update it real time and see what's happening. Moreover, nothing has changed with my location or phone usage, and I normally would have 1-2 megs of data usage a day tops.
Tonight I will shut of 3G data when I go to bed and I'll see if it generates any kind of warning overnight. Good thing I have a big data plan...
twelvebit, I ran into the same problem you had as my phone was also downloading 80-90 megs data every night for about three days before I noticed it. I also narrowed it down to Download Manager. Another problem I had with it is that it uses a constant data connection at every phone bootup. I had to manually force stop Download Manager at every bootup so that it'll free up the data connection again. I pretty much went through my phone and SD card and there was no new files of any type. I don't use any podcast apps. I also didn't install any new apps before this started. After a couple of days of trouble shooting, I gave up and just did a complete wipe. The phantom data stopped after I reinstalled a new rom and hasn't pop back up since. I was running CM 6.1. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
I just turn my data off at night because for some reason my phone would do the same. I even got rid of my weather widgets because I couldn't figure the problem out. For weird reason android does that mystery downloading.

So I left data off overnight, and as soon as I turned it back on this AM it immediately did performed the phantom 77 meg download. There was no indication on the phone anywhere that it was downloading anything, it's only because I looked a my usage stats that I saw it happened.
Guess my next step is to wipe...?

I flashed to the nightly cyanogenmod this AM, and in doing so I guess I lost my stats. I've never really used spare parts before. It doesn't look like "the" download has been attempted since I reflashed, but that's typical since it happens once per night.
Right now my biggest network using item is called "0", the others are dialer and android system. What is 0? When I try and select it, spare parts crashes.
Is there a way to get hard numbers out of spare parts, or just the graphs? (it's showing blue and pink bars for each.)

Not sure what '0' is.
Spare Parts just gives you the bar graph but I did another search and found 'Stats' and 'Onavo' in the Market, both should help you find the problemed app. Again, Spare Parts should show it if you reboot before bed and then check it in the morning and narrowing it down by "since boot".
EDIT: I take that back, hit the bar graph in Spare Parts and it gives you the actual data.

Guys, I'm having the exact same problem and I am puzzled why it's happening. I came across something from the droid forum:
In brief, to quote the poster:
I found a thread on the Cyanogenmod forums that supports the idea that while my oldish CM kernel was effectively blocking an OTA from installing, it wasn't preventing it from repeatedly downloading and attempting install. There is an app to fake the fingerprint so an OTA is not even downloaded since it appears to have already been applied. Just installed it so no confirmation of the fix yet, but I should know in a day or so. I'd pretty much concluded that the issue was an OTA since it was always coming via 3G even when I was at home with Wifi on. If it had been a misbehaving app, it would have originated on the phone and would have used Wifi. An OTA originates from the carrier so always comes via 3G. IMHO.
Any comment?
It's a little too early to declare victory, but last night was the first night on the new ROM and the phone did not do any inexplicable downloading.
If I learn anything else I will post it here for those others who are suffering the same issue.
Get traffic counter. It'll tell you what's using those megabytes. I used almost 1GB on my phone and it was the friend stream app on HTC Sense & Sensation.

MarketPlace issue

Hi,
Its weird that there's no thread and nobody mentioned the market place issue on wp7 for few days ago i wasn't able to download anything now Microsoft have this app. (Refresh marketplace) to solve this issue but it didn't i have followed the step by step guide and it didn't help. now i have done a hard reset to my phone of curse i lost everything now i have installed the refresh marketplace app. again and still nothing .....any ideas guys on this issue?
thanks
I am also facing this trouble for more then a week.......
Searched a lot for solution but in vain......
If anyone had any solution please suggest us too.............
hmm, I had issues a while back but they are not related, I did however get that refresh marketplace app pop up, on my first attempt at installing it my original problem prevented it installing, that's kind of irrelevant though, after I fixed my issue the refresh app appeared once again BUT has since vanished without me installing it.
I wonder if this is an app that 7.8 needs and isn't quite ready for 7.5 or something like that.
I now have the same issue after reactivating my HTC Mozart after some time of not using it. I installed the "Refresh Marketplace" app but marketplace still doesn't work. Right now I'm trying the last hint before hard resetting: Restart, activate data connection and power plug the device for at least 24 hours while keeping the marketplace app open.
hmmm Strange. can it have something with the Windows Live ID problems that was before. some of the Windows Live IDs have also had some errors a while ago. Microsoft has a bunch of stuff to do now with WP 8 and WP 7.8 preparing. i think this is only a little bug which will go away in few days or weeks. but weeks is sometimes to long, i now.

Hi toolsche, did it solved your problem after resetting???
Was playing around with OSBuilder and the 8858 dumps and kept having what sounds like the same issue with every rom I created. Being a noob I figured I was including an unnecessary package or missing a package somewhere. Tried everything including the refresh marketplace app and changing live i.d. What was strange was the "icons" for the apps looked newer or at least different. Wish now I had taken a screenshot.
On my Omnia 7, it was solved with a hard reset.
Hardreseting is actually heart breaking......
Wish if some senior/serious member can suggest workaround....
I know many user are facing same problem....
