Best way to go to stock but keep root/S-Off? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've seen the guide in the wiki to return to stock and get S-On but was curious what's the best way to go back to the updated OTA for the G2 (1.22.531) but keep root and S-Off? Do I have to return to stock and S-On and then go back and root again?

You can flash this modified stock rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042

Yup thats the way to do it. Its always good to keep a stock ROM in your nandroid as a backup to go to when things get messed up lol.

Ya I nandroid my stock rom when I rooted but I believe I deleted the backup like a space saving idiot lol

Got an unbranded deisre which i have rooted, and installed defrost 1.6c. Can anyone point me towards what stock rom I would need to put it back the way it was originally.
If I did put the stock back on would it still be rooted?
Bootloader was 0.80 when i upgraded.
Had a look at the stock and confused as which one i would need.

On this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
It shows all the stock ROMs, you must of been on the lateset one if your are on bootloader 0.80.xxxx
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe would be the one you need if you want to do it from the computer or OTA_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2-1.15.405.4_release_P4ohim1mtp6zggcyon.zip if obviously pushing
Yes you would lose root if you applied any of them
cheers for the reply,
pushing would mean doing it through rom manager into custom recovery wouldn't it and then wipe and installing it. Do i just put this rom on the root directory on my sd card and rename it update?
This then would put it back to its natural state and voiding warranty wouldn't it?

Don't use that one, it's an OTA update from 1.51.405.4 to 1.21.405.2. It contains only the changes between these two stock roms. I'd bet that'd really mess things up installed on top of defrost
Download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
It's the full 1.21.405.2 ROM, you will need to go back to a Sense ROM to run it though as you need HTC Sync...OR run this from recovery
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.zip
and it should do the same

Putting the RUU ROM will put it completely back to normal restoring your warranty

Eddy, sorry a little confused.
I am on Defrost 1.6c at the moment. If I run the 1.21.405.2 stock from your second post in recovery, will that take me back to where I want to go?

The 2nd link (the ZIP) should flash you back to stock...if you wanna use the full RUU you'd first need to go back to a custom Sense-based ROM (like MCR v3.1)

Sorry new to all this. Tried the second link zip which I put on my SD card. Then went into recovery with rom manager, erased and then tried to flash the zip from SD card but kept on getting an error.
Am I doing something wrong?

Quick Question About Switching to Froyo ROM

If I decide to update my radio and install a leaked froyo ROM is there any way to revert back to a stock phone?
Yes but not if you do unrevoked forever. Currently there is no way to revert s-off back to s-on. But you don't need to do that to run Froyo and an updated radio, and without it you can easily go back to 100% stock.
How would I go about reverting to stock? like if i want to return to stock 2.1 with original radio?
Just flash this zip file in recovery it will revert you to 2.1
Edit: ok it didnt take my upload for some reason the the zip name is PB31IMG.zip
oh so just reflash the stock 2.1 image and everythings back to fully stock?

Edit: Wait your stock 2.1 right now? If your asking about updating your radio so you can root and get froyo leak then just check out the videos from the guy I sent you above he has a video on updating your radio then just use Unrevoked3 to root

[Q] How to reset phone and go back to stock htc rom?

Hey!
So I wanted to give my htc incredible to a friend but wanted to put everything back the way it was minus the root. I have a custom rom on it with various other changes wanted to know if there was some way (quick) to get it back to the way I got it from the store (minus the root) with the stock rom they provided and all that? Thanks!
Check this out.
Edit: I should've read a little further. If you want to keep root run the RUU be keep s-off, once you've RUU'd you can flash ClockworkMod and install superuser.apk.

Aren't those completely stock and not rooted?
If you want a stock rooted PC36IMG, your best bet would be the Sprint Lovers ROM. It's about 99.9% stock and comes as a PC36IMG.

I know for a fact that these are rooted versions of the 3.70 OTA because I have personally flashed both the ODEXED and DEODEXED versions.

I highly recommend you download and flash the stock ODEXED 3.70 rom listed in the link I provided earlier if you want "exactly" the rom you had when you purchased your EVO (rooted, of course).

I am totally new to xda, though fairly technically adept with years of Linux experience, which is to say, I am not clueless, but I'm totally lost with this.
I rooted my evo with unrevoked3. I installed unrevoked-forever. I did not install a custom ROM (unless one of the above processes installed one for me). I tried to install the 4.22.651.2 update OTA, but after the progress bar got a third of the way, the package on the screen turned into a warning symbol + android, and just stayed there until I did a battery pull.
I am clueless as to what to do next to allow the OTA update to install. Do I need to install one of the above? Do I need to S-on?

yep. but make sure to flash the unrevoked s-on tool first. otherwise, you will be stuck with no recovery and an unrooted rom but with s-off.

...but if you want to be rooted, just flash the rooted version of the stock rom. You can keep s-off, that way if you change your mind and want to go back to root, you can just flash recovery and then flash a rom. If you don't want to be rooted anymore, or don't mind waiting for a root exploit, go ahead and flash the s-on zip. At the moment Unrevoked, or anything else for that matter, can not root the OTA if you're s-on.

Ahhh... So I won't be able to be rooted and use the OTA update for now? I thought I could unroot, install the update, and root again.
I don't use any custom ROMs. Heck, I haven't even changed the original wallpaper. I rooted just for Wireless Tether, Titanium Backup and to use the Root Uninstaller to get rid of the pre-installed apps I didn't want.
I really appreciate the help. I am less confused about the process now, but more confused about aligning my technical goals with what I want to do with my phone.
No. If you unroot and install the OTA, you cannot root again. There is no method yet.
You're best bet is to stay rooted and flash the Stock/Rooted ROM

[Q] Easy Backup Restore Question

When I'm on ROM #1 and I want to restore ROM #2 from nandroid backup, do I need to also reflash ROM #2's boot image after I do the restore or will it be restored in the nandroid restore?

If you did S-Off your phone, you don't need to flash another kernel. In other word, it can be restored when restoring a nandroid backup. If your phone still on S-On state, you need to flash another kernel. But if those two ROMs can boot with/use the same kernel, you don't need to flash another kernel.

Thanks. Is there an easy way to S-off the CDMA version? I'm used to my Evo V 4G on Virgin which is a lot easier to tinker with.
