Hi i have just replaced the lcd on my DZ, but have now turned it on and there are vertical lines all along it.
Could i have done something wrong? not connected something? or damaged the flex cable?
Or is it just a faulty lcd?
can anyone help?
Pics?

i've taken it apart again, as it got worse since with the whole screen going variations on green and purple. But heres a pic of kinda how it looked. Although more lines, and evenly spaced

Your cable might of been damaged when you toke your phone apart. When I toke apart my moto cliq to change the screen I never has an issue. Make sure you properly put the cable on. Another thing could be the lcd...

the flex cable? yea i had been thinking that in the back of my mind. i was really careful when taking it apart though. Is there any way of testing the flex?

So a couple of months a go I came here for help replacing my screen and that all went swimmingly, thanks for that by the way
Before the screen broke though, i when the screen popped up I had red/blue tints everywhere and stuff, somebody told me it was a damaged cable in the middle. This carried on after my screen replacement and was manageable because it went after fiddling for a bit. But now it always does it and it isn't just red and blue tints, now I'm getting orange, purples and greens everywhere when the screens flipped up and red and blue when it isn't. So I was wondering if there was anywhere I could get a replacement cable or main insides or something in the uk?

Thanks dude but I wasn't looking for a replacement screen, I meant the insides of the actual phone or the cable that connects the two halves of the phone together

Hi there,
for the past 2 days the screen on my evo will at random change colors to pink, purple, green, blue and if i press on the back of the phone it will change back to normal. basically If i put any pressure on the phone what so ever the screen will change to a different color. Does this sound like the LCD is failing?
I put a brand new LCD + Digitizer on it about 6 months ago as i bought the phone with a busted LCD.
edit* also i wanted to add that i just opened the phone up to inspect the ribbons and i do not see any kind of damage what so ever. and the motherboard is also only 6 months old as i replaced that due to the previous owner melting the board with a soldering iron.

No, actually it sounds like it could be the lcd cable itself is loose. The only way to tell is to open it up, unplug the ribbon and plug it back in securely. If that fixes it, then it was the cable, if it doesnt, then its the lcd itself.
Thanks for the reply! I'll open the phone up again tonight and play with it and see what happens.

So I installed a brand new LCD + Digitizer and it seemed to be working for the first few moments and then went back to doing its weird color changing.
Even with the new screen if I squeeze on the phone or apply a gentle twisting motion to the phone I can eventually get the color looking normal, but once the pressure is off the phone the color goes back to being a dark pink / redish color. Also I do notice a new symptom, the 4 touch buttons at the bottom of the screen do not light up with this new digitizer.
What are the chances that the new lcd is junk? Or could this be a more serious issue like the logic board being damaged? Are their any methods that I can take to ruling out the board? I payed 259$ for a brand new board 6 months ago and if its bad this POS is retiring its life!

Hey Fellow HTC Desire Lovers!
I have a question. Can you replace the top PCB (I think its called) the top one that has the Headphone jack and camera attached to it.
Is it a case of simply getting a replacement part from another phone and swapping the NAND flash? (I think its called the NAND flash module, Its the little square thing next to the camera)
What happened was
My HTC desire had a fist fight with the wall! it left a dent on my wall as well as on the desire!
The odd thing it Smashed the the AMOLED screen and the Housing bad! It caused the camera to be ripped from the PCB circuit board as well as the headphone jack. It is still attached but neither work. I have repaired the screen and replaced the housing (however still need the middle housing as it is still bent)
The phone works fine! Besides the camera and headphone jack and earpiece! What a beast!
Thank you for your help!
Sorry I think its called the Flex cable
Please help if anyone knows if its possible to simply swap it?
Thank you
I don't see why you couldn't swap it, as long as its the same component from another amoled handset.

wow thats great news! So it has to be a AMOLED handset to be able to work? I thought the SLCD and amoled only differed in their screens and possibly connections to the main board at the bottom?
Also when searching ebay i found flex boards that are for Nexus one. will they be ok to use? having a look at them they look exactly the same as the desire one. I cant post a link right now but will do when I can
Thank you
I'm not sure if it's totally necessary for it to be from another amoled handset, but that's how I'd do it, just as a precaution. Not sure about the nexus component.

I purchased a new one from ebay came today swapped it working fine although camera not in properly its missing the shield so its just stuck in there without the top metal to hold it in but no big deal.
For everyone that repaired their phones be careful with the digitizer strip that connects to the screen it's just held on with tape. sometimes it comes loose mine did and the phone bootlooped. I just stuck it on more firmly and its fixed using it now
Thanks ffor your help man!
And your right I don't think it matters if you have amoled or LCD . I just got a generic part for £25

My wife somehow got baby oil in her Evo. It seeped into the LCD so I got a replacement. I put in the new LCD and now the screen has distorting green lines. If I peel back the digitizer the screen looks normal. I figure that there also must be some damage in the digitizer, but wanted a second opinion before I purchased more parts. I have attached an image of the phone, sorry about the quality, my wife has my Evo currently and I took the pic with my Xoom.
Yup looks like a digitizer issue.

Thanks for the help, I just wanted to check before I ordered another part.
No problem. I would recommended getting the whole front section. The digitizer is very finicky and can be damaged easily.

I've recently ran into an issue where the screen on my dz does not show anything on it. The phone works and responds to touch however it does not show anything on the screen apart from a couple of white lined down the right side. Would this be a screen fault or a connector fault with the ribbon?

It could be either the main flex cable or the LCD, unfortunately there isn't a good way of testing other than replacing pieces to see what cause this. In truth your situation seems to be 50/50 caused by main flex or LCD, but I still am leaning toward replacing the LCD if you don't want to buy both
