In-Call Recording - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am really close to ordering a Desire Z from bell canada to use on ATT here in the states.
It will be replacing my Sony Experia X1A. It seems to be able to do everything the Xperia can but I am unsure about in-call recording.
My Xperia clearly records both sides of the call and saves them to the SD card.
It took a long time for the Experia to get hacked enough for this to be possible, but because the Z and the Ex are both HTC phones at heart, I am optimistic.
Is this possible on the Desire Z?

The app market has apps to do this

HAHA this would be great for Prank Calls XD

"Total Recall" can do this.

if you can take speakerphone recording, then there are many apps on the market to do that.
otherwise, you may have to find another phone......
i have a little overview here...

I just got the following email back from Killer Mobile Software when I asked if it would work:
Feedback says no - caller side audio will be very low.
Stay Killer My Friend,
Killer Mobile Software

I can confirm that in-call recording is a problem on Desire Z / G2.
Incoming audio is low-quality and low-volume.
Total Recall seems to be the best choice for Desire Z atm. (I tried nearly every app.)
rVoix seems promising, but requires root:

The phone I am ordering will come rooted, and I fully expect that I would have to root it anyway.
Thanks for the link on rVoix. I am following up with him to see about getting it up on the Desire Z.

I haven't tried but I think it has a >90% chance of working.
Recording with the help of speakerphone is doable on most, if not all, phones. The problem is that the quality of the other side is relatively poor.
If you really need true 2-way call recording, check out the thread I mentioned earlier, you may have to get another phone.

I like this app called "sanity" it has lots of features and one is recording.

[Q] LED Strobe to music

Hi,
I recently bought a HTC Desire from Orange and wanted to ask about a free strobe application, which could 'dance' to music.
I basically want the LED flash to strobe in response to music speeds. I have TeslaLED (Which is amazing) and which has a strobe, but with manual speed controls.
I found this, http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/led-music-beat-strobe_fqez.html which could do it, but is unfortunately off the Market (According to a UK Desire on Orange)
Please help! (Also I like the new 'searches as you type thread name' thing!)
Thanks in advance,
Dylan
Try MarketAccess, the app should still be there

Ah, thanks very much for the reply. Unfortunately I have not rooted my device, and I really don't want to (after bad experiences with other phones)
Any other suggestions?

[Q] Desire HD navigation on Desire?

So i saw this video where they showcased some sort of GPS navigation on the Desire HD, and am wondering if this is something that is out there yet? And is it possible to get it on the Desire?
Which video?
I assume you mean this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHO9A9Zf5g8M
At around 4:30 into the video it shows a new app called locations
I like the look of this too - no reliance on downloading of maps and incoming calls wont stop maps either
I want this on my Desire!!
I've been using it on my desire. It's pretty good the voices for directions are better than goggle navigation.

Exactly.
@ratchetnclank, yea where and how did you get it?
Ratchetnclank, are you using this on a Desire (non HD / Z), please confirm
I'm using it on my desire. It is part of the Desire HD rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789830
However before you go flashing this Rom bear in mind it is not fully operational yet (ie no camera) HTC locations is a massive leap forward compared to Google Navigation.
Hmm, so its not possible to get HTC Locations as a standalone app? Anyway thanks for the link.

[DEV] Call recording on I9000 - JNI (DEVELOPERS ONLY)

Hi!
on the i9000 i found out that there is a function in libaudio.so for call recording.
I'm not an expert which jni. So what would i need to use the class from within a dalvik / java program.
My idea is to test the class for call recording on the i9000.
Any help appreciated.
(I managed to compile a working kernel, but i didn't manage to compile a running arm binary neither with the CodeSourcery nor the gnu toolchain in the android sdk)
------------
Update:
Thanks to titooo7 et.al. call recording is now working using the libs and phone*.apks from the i9088.
http://db.tt/q0sfueP
thanks for nothing.
i fixed the dynamic linker problem with gcc/ld parameter.
So, any good news for us mortals? Are you planning to do an app with a proper call recording?
i was partly successful. For now, call recording works only with the headset attached.
but there won't be an app for call recording. It will be more like a patch.
I would really need feedback from people telling that recording works with their firmware versions to go in depth.
That's awesome! Great progress! I wish I could help but I don't have the slightest clue about Android development. Would love to have a working call recorder though! I'd gladly send a beer or two your way too.
P.S. - I'd love to help you out with testing if you need.
Call recording would be great! I remember a while ago spending weeks looking for a call recording app, but nothing! Even my ancient Sony Ericsson had call recording...
I'll be watching this thread
There is an application, called Total Recall that should let you record your phone conversations.
My experience with similar app is that I am recorded fine but the other side is barely heard. I think OP is working on a direct recording from line in.
I'll be happy to beta test anything too.
Please don't get me wrong. I will for sure release a version for testing.
But at first i would need the firmware versions of people who claim that call recording (with 3rd party apps) works on their phones.

Among all apps I have tried, only one of them recorded successfuly both sides of the conversation. I don't remember the app and I don't remember which firmware I had (sorry). The only thing I remember is that it was a 14 or 15 dial trial and the app "draw" a (movable) circular button on top of the phone app. In order to recall the current conversation this button had to be pushed.
I am currently using Doc's JPY firmware. If I can help with some tests, I will be glad.

None of the countless apps I've tried has worked for me. What they all do is, record whatever is input through the mic, just like any other sound recorder app. For this reason, only your side of the conversation is recorded. Or both sides if you use speakerphone.

That is what most of these apps do, but the one I mentioned before successfuly and clearly recorded both sides, without speakerphone. It's a pitty I don't remember the name... hopefully, someone will tell wich app it is from my description.

Can you please check to see if the app is called Call Recorder | TR Demo by Killer Mobile? This is the one with a 14 days trial, and the description says it works for Samsung Galaxy (Android 2.2).
I have not personally tried it, but hopefully this can jog your memory.

From my research no app is working in GalaxyS atm. I mean recording both sides offcource..

No it's not. That's one of the most popular ones and one of the first ones I tried, because that's what I was using on my old Symbian Nokia 5320. Unfortunately it only recorded one side of the convo, like every other app I tried.

That application works on my phone. It records both me and also the people I talk with.
It worked on JP7 (which should be identical with JPA/JPO).

does it work without speakerphone?
I am using an app called CallRecorder, it records me fine and the other side very silent(yet clear enough to understand what he's saying).
I am on a custom hebrew rom, based on jpo I think.
merry xmas.
Just installed and unibstalled the Total Recall Call Recorder app, again. Tried with all the settings, and while some (Recording Strategy A) work one sided (the other side is very faint - only whatever manages to get through from the earpiece to the mic), some settings (Recording Strategy B) fail completely and keep crashing the app all the time. I'm on JPX.
Like I said, I'm yet to come across an app that does recording directly from line in.

[Q] Xperia Arc Camera Recording

In the Xperia Arc (LT15i) the camera (HD Recording) does not record past (approximately) 45 mins. This was never a problem with the X10. Does any developer care to share some knowledge on any modifications that can be made to the build.prop (or anything else) to change this ?
ALSO
-I under-clock my phone while recording (that shouldn't be a problem should it?)

If you're recording for that long, buy a device that was made for the job. I think phones are a long way off from being a replacement for certain things.

Well, that is true. But sneaking a newly bought HD camera recorder into my classroom lectures to record sometimes wouldn't be a good alternative. So please just answer the question if you can help without giving advice on something else. And don't reply to me arguing something pointless now.
Probably because of the file size limitation on SD card using FAT32? biggest file size for FAT32 is 4GB

Request for Wildfire ROM with 2-way Call Recording supported

I am looking for a Wildfire ROM that supports 2-way call recording.
I have an app which I use for call recording but it records only from the mic as in line recording is not supported in the kernel, I guess. The app supports in line recording but the phone doesn't.
So, I would like to install a custom ROM which has this feature enabled.
Could someone please provide a link to any such ROM for Wildfire?
Thanks a lot.

Im sure i have recorded conversations by just using the voice recorder app in most roms!

Sorry but I don't know much more about it or use the patch myself. But according to the devices list it should work? (While wildfire s doesn't). Regarding the patch you probably should ask in that thread?
