something really really strange has happened to my epic....
just a couple of hours ago, any time i type to search for something or if i select the search button, i get prompted to "Use My Location" "Do you want to allow Google to use location for improved search results and other services?"
doesn't matter if i select Agree or Disagree....i'm stuck in a loop to keep answering the question...
if i hit Home, the Task Manager i see "Google Search" and "Google Services Framework" runing...
i've never seen this before or how to fix it...
i've rebooted, updated my prl and profile, airplane mode on/off....i've given acces to Use Wirless Networks from within Location and Security but it doesn't help....
i haven't instaled anything new after flashing to 1.02 Syndicate rom last night...
i'm unable to use my phone and it's driving me nuts.... any suggestions?
thanks
Moved to Q&A Do you have an app called root explorer?
If you go to settings, location and security, uncheck use wireless networks... see if that helps
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Ok. Go into data/app. Find the apk called googlequicksearchbox.apk. Move it to system/app, and delete anything else having to do with search from data/app, and then reboot. This should fix it.
wow...i don't have that apk....
in the data/app folder there is nothing called "googlequicksearchbox.apk" and there is no other apk in that folder with "search" in the apk folder as well....
in the system/app, i do see the "googlequicksearchbox.apk" as well as "googleservicesframework.apk"

Ok, try this then. Delete that app from system/app. Make sure you have no more google search functionality. Then, download google search from the market, and move it from data/app to system/app
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, says i have insufficient permissions to delete the google search apk from the folder....
what the heck...lol

Try clearing data in Google Framework in "manage applications".

it
finally
worked
i did it 3 times and it finally took..... i need a beer...
thank you for your help....
I had the same problem and clearing data on google framework worked for me too.
Thanks!
well, it happened again.... and this time along with constant messages of Swype, Messeging and Google Framework FC errors....
maybe i have a bad flashed rom....this is odd...
will try to reflash the Syndicate 1.02 rom now...
also got an android.acore fc error as well....never saw that one before...
anyway, i rebooted into clockwork and ran the wipe cache command....that seems to have stopped the errors...
what do you guys think? reflash the syndicate rom? wondering why this is happening now....not doing anything out of the ordinary in using the phone...
thanks!

Sounds like there is a bit of corrupted data somewhere. Have you been booting normally without a battery pull? If it reoccurs you might try a data factory reset and restore only data you absolutely need. Reflashing may work if you do all the wipes before hand.

yes, regular reboots without batt pulls...
and so the errors all came back again!!!....so i booted into cw, wiped the cache 3x and reflashed the rom....
it's been stable for a while now, hopefully this is it.....if it happens again, then yes, i will have to wipe it out and reinstall rom and apps from scratch...
yea, something definitly got corrupt...wish i could figure out what i may have done to cause it...

Hey,
Like the topic says.. just wondering how you go about uninstalling an app you can't see. When I use a backed up apk file to install it, it says it will replace data and such, then I click okay, and then gives me a message, "application not installed". So that's how I know the app is there...
Its just that nothing recognizes the app as being installed. No uninstall app, no system app... anyone know how to get rid of this app by means of file exploring and not wiping the phone clean??
Thanks all.

Maybe the "application not installed" means that it wasn't installed. This would explain why you can't see it.
Under settings/applications/all, can you find it there? You might be able to uninstall it from there.
Can you find it with a file manager? You could delete it, but it might leave the data behind. This is usually in /data/data if you want to scrub things clean.
Lastly, and my personal favorite, the command line. This is the no-click method. If you know the java name, you could probably type "pm uninstall android.your.package" Try typing "pm" from the command line to get the syntax/ Some thlng like "pm list" will give you a list of installed pacakges.
Be careful what you delete- some things don't react well with being deleted.
there may be some confusion here, you say the reason you know the app is in your phone and hidden is when you try to install it is says that it will be replaced? well you can use root explorer or similar file explorer to hunt it down, check:
/system/app
/data/app
/sd-ext/app
/sdcard

Well the way I know the app is there is because when I try to install it. It prompts me and tells me that the program will be replaced but user data and settings will be saved. Usually if an app is not installed on the phone there is no prompt and you just have to hit install.

I'll try to find it using root explorer... and if all else fails.. I guess I'll have to live without using the app or try the command line method.

If you have upgraded from say GB to ICS, the app might not install because it is a GB app. Try upgrading from the market. Otherwise, I would guess that you don't actaully have the app installed, perhaps just the data.

Well darn. Gotta fish this thing out then. Heh. There's gotta be a way! I guess I'll upgrade through the market if possible solutions are exhausted.

More technical, but it was mentioned to use the package manager. Under the terminal or using adb shell enter:
Code:
pm list packages
This gives you a list of all the packages installed listed as something like android.application.com. Most are self explanatory. Using that information you can use:
Code:
pm path android.application.com
That gives you the location of the apk (i.e. /system, /data/app, etc). Then delete via explorer or use adb to remove:
Code:
adb uninstall /location/application.apk
I came across the same error when I manually copied an APK into /system/app folder. It showed in my drawer but was unable to execute it. In order to get rid I had to install it as well, then I was able to uninstall it which made is disappear. Any chance its something like that?
progress ughtsrr
Have you tried clearing the google play store data? If this has been corrupted with some partial entry for your app it might leave it in there and hence why you can't install/uninstall it...
Menu -> Settings -> Apps (and/or manage applications as per your ROM)
Choose "Google Play Store", then "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache"
Close the settings, then see if you can re-install the app.
Failing that, try the above, followed by a wipe cache/wipe Dalvik cache at recovery and see if that helps.
Good luck
I installed CyanogenMod and when I try to download a paid app on google play, it shows an "110 unknown error". Do you know how to fix it? I read some threads about it and nothing worked (clear cache, log out - login gmail...). Thanks.
You can download play store file and install over the one you have or try to make a clean Rom install this might solve your problem......
OR First try to clear all your data of play store and Google service and reboot the phone if it doesn't work then try the above thing...

Most likely the app you are trying to install has some files already in your system folder, therefore its not able to install correctly. Get a file explorer with root rights and try to clean up yourself. At least that solved my problem.

I have installed RDMP app from Google Play, which is a device administrator app. I am unable to uninstall it. I tried to deactivate it from SETTINGS->DEVICE ADMINISTRATION but after pressing deactivate button, it cannot be unchecked and thus I am unable to remove it.
I am currently on b506.
Any help.

Hi guys, i have the same problem whit my G8. I can't find the retail demo in any folder. How can i delete it?
YESSSSSSS !!!! i find !!!!
i do a search in root explorer, in search i write apk and in the results there is. So i delete it and i solved the problem!!
I also managed to find the retail demo application using 'root explorer' but it's not giving me any options to force delete the application. If i delete the individual system files of the application, would i cause stability issues with the phone?
Hello all,
I cann't find a solution to install apps in sideload on my Pixel 2XL.
It was after flashing version 10 in the beginning of september.
After a lot of trying I give up and hope someone else here can help me.
My Pixel 2XL is unlocked but not rooted.
Normally I do the sideload by transfer an apk to my dropbox. After that I start it up and do what the system tells me.
Nowadays I got a return of a message in dropbox that -it is impossible to open the apk and download an app to open the apk-.
After that I download the apk to my download folder to try again. Then, when trying to startup, I get a popup with the name off the apk, the version nr, the size and packagename.
There is also a button to view apk content. When I push that button the right folders of the apk are indeed visible.
There are also 3 options. One to install, one to go to playstore and one to stop further actions and go back.
When I try to use the button install the result is that nothing happened, no signal, no message from the system, no popup, really nothing.
You all know that this is not what I want. I just want to install the apk. I have tried it with a few other apk's with the same results. :crying:
Before the last OTA upgrade to android 10 it was normal to install with these methods.
Thanks for who can helping me and others for trying to help me.
Greetings.

Have you enabled install apps from unknown sources? You'll also need to enable apps to install apps from what I can see in android 10. If you pull up an apps indignation you can expand the options and there will be an option to allow it to install apps, which Dropbox may need. The first one needs to be enabled to install apks from the download folder.

Thanks for helping me.
I did all these settings before.
Now I tried to open another filemanager (Google Files) and that did the job.
I don't know why installing in dropbox or installing in es file explorer doesn't do the same with equal settings.
Maybe an idea to uninstall and re-install these apps?
Anyway, a lot of thanks for your answer.

Android 10, install from unknown sources is like an app permission now, you have to grant it to things like chrome (download apk and install) and file managers rather than a global setting for phone. Safer as you trust an app o do it rather than letting some malware in background filling your phone with crap.

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not work, as I've done that with my modded version of ES File Explorer. This is a change in Android itself.
Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Special App Access > Install Unknown Apps. A list of apps will appear. Select an app and toggle the switch.
NOTE: Dropbox is on the list, but at least on my device my modded version of ES File Explorer is not.
