I'v tried to fix the permissions in Rom Manager, but I'm still getting a lot of force closes. Mainly for the lock screen settings and adobe reader. I really need to get the Adobe reader working. I get a lot of PDF files e-mailed to me. Thanks
Its been said a lot already if you just use the search button.
You have to uninstall and reinstall adobe reader.
Thanks. Sorry I guess I did not search enough.
I have been getting the lockscreen settings force close too...
I've been searching but not finding the fix. Best advice I've found is to freeze the lockscreen settings app using titanium backup. If there is a better way that leaves the settings app usable I'd love to know.
Thanks,
i just installed mikfroyo 4.5 today and everything seems good except one issue. When trying to open the messages app, it auto force closes. any ideas?
im getting the error message process com.android.mms??? and sorry didnt mean to hijack op
Everything works for me too.

Sorry if this is old news. But the "Get more HTC widgets" finally works.
Excellent find, I'd tried them just the other day without any success!
Anyone having luck getting the task widget to download? For me it shows downloading then installing but never gives me the installed message. Tried the notes, fortune cookie, and word of the day, and they all worked just fine.
Could it be related to some of the apps I froze?

I had the same problem when i tried to download "fake call" and "tip calculator" Battery and Coin Flip worked just fine.
Broken Downloads
So I've tried to download each of the new widgets just to see how many of them have problems. Here is the list of widgets I couldn't get to install:
Fake Call
Quick Record
Sand Timer
Tasks
Tip Calculator
Today In History
All other widgets downloaded and installed just fine. If anyone else has different results, let us know!

Me too
So i am having the same problem, anyone come up with a solution yet?
Ive looked all over the net and xda for what this means and what's causing this, but its one of those ask 10 people, get 10 different answer type things. It seems that every sense rom i flash, i end up getting "process com.htc.bgp" has stopped working or something to that effect, then it force closes. Not sure what this is and any help would be nice. Thanks for taking the time to at least read this.

it usually is when you remove to much htc stuff
lol...guess that would explain most of it. I do remove a decent amount of apps, guess i shouldnt. Thanks for the speedy response too, Joel.
not sure if this already posted, but wondered if i froze certain apps via titanium backup, would it cause that message to appear also?

yea freezing them is sort of like removing them because HTC no longer reads them as apps
the following i have found to be safe to remove
stocks app and widget
flicker app
twitter app and widget
peep app and widget
facebook app and widget
friendstream app and widgets
I have not recieved that message on the following roms
kingdom all versions
uber shift
redemption rom 2.4
nils business gingersense all
uber kingdom all
my guess on what you cant freeze or remove are:
Mail app
messaging app (i know it sucks compaired to market ones but if you remove it issues arise)
clock app+widget
calander app+widget
htc likes
htc hub
dialer (duh no dialer cant make calls)
sense can be removed but not with titanium backup
people.apk (address book dialer will use this)
Hi there.
I thought my only issue with the Note 2 was the driver issues some are experiencing. Now that I avoid it by plugging into my Win7 machine, rather than my Vista machine, that problem is no more.
But recently another issue I thought was minor is really starting to aggravate me now. For some reason, ever since Jelly Bean came around (even on my G-Nexus) I have had issues with default apps saving.
For example, when browsing either using Chrome or the stock Internet browser, I select an IMdB link and a pop up window appears asking what default app I would like to address these link types. I select the IMdB app, and ALWAYS.....then a window pops up showing how to clear defaults which I have to hit: OK. So all in all, I have to hit 3 or 4 more buttons after selecting a link.
The next time I select an IMdB link, I have to do the process all over again......meaning Android is not saving my selected default apps. I thought it might be app specific, but this issue is happening with nearly any default I select. It also doesn't have to be a reboot that wipes my choices......it just never remembers. Same with YouTube, and other apps I choose for defaults.....they don't stick.
The only defaults that work are some non-Google/system based app to app default choices. By this I mean, in ES File Explorer, if I select a default video player, image viewer, text viewer, or audio player they stick. Meaning, if I pick an image while in ES, QuickPic automatically opens. A video, MXPlayer opens etc.
The issue only seems to happen with system or google apps, but is consistent. This problem is getting very annoying, and my google searches over the last couple days have yielded me nothing helpful.
My question is this, has anyone seen this before, and if so do they have a possible workaround or solution they could suggest? Thank you much, in advance.
I have the same issue and started a thread for it... I didn't get any answers

Hmmmm. Thats not the news I wanted to hear lol. Ive managed to work around my problem a little by installing Default App Manager Pro and then installing Opera mobile and setting it as default browser app. I get far fewer pop ups and at least the imdb page on Opera is close to the app. As well, if I search something and it goes to a YouTube link it first goes to the browser page but as soon as I touch the video to play it, the YouTube app opens. Not perfect but far better than being asked to set defaults EVERY time I search the internet, then having my defaults ignored and asked again.....and again.

Is using that app the only solution for this?
I got my wife a Note 2 yesterday, and each time we've rebooted it, it forgets what we chose for the default app, going back to the stock launcher, and no longer using SwiftKey by default.
Each and every time... re-selecting the things she wants... Quite aggravating.
I never had this issue on my S3
I'm wondering if you have installed custom roms or mods. If so, have you tried going to recovery manager and running :fix permissions:? My thinking is that maybe it's trying to write to a read only file and failing silently. Thus the next time it reads default apps, there are no defined preferences.
I don't know for sure that's even the case, but it would make sense logically on any system.

Right now, it's happening to be on a brand new vanilla Note 2
Is rooting my phone and nuking the default .apk's the only option to fix this problem?
Hate to bump an old thread, but I'm having the exact same issue. Every time I reboot all of my default apps disappear and I have to choose them again. They seem to last for the entire session. Stock rom but rooted.
Defaults not saving

Same here....6 week old Note 2, not rooted. It is saving virtually no default programs...not the launcher, the browser, not documents. Seems that if there are more than one app that COULD open a file, Note 2 will ask for the preferred app, regardless of whether a default had been previously saved / set or not.
Bummer. I did try using a "Default App Manager", went through the process of setting my selected defaults...made absolutely no difference at all!

If you are on a custom ROM I do not know what to tell you. If you are on stock each time you install or uninstall an app that will perform an action when you click on something the Note will ask if you want to do it once or always. So if you install a new browser and you click on a link it will ask which browser you want to use. If you then uninstall a browser the next time you click on a link you will be asked again. If you are being asked more than that then there is a problem somewhere. If a factory reset does not work and you are still under warranty I would call and find out if that is something that is covered. I wish I knew off hand which app keeps track of your defaults then you could just clear that app and see if that helps.
This is happening on my stock galaxy s4 for t-mobile.. app defaults are not saving. I think it's a broader problem than just the note 2.
Wondering if anyone has found a solution or made any progress????

the same is problem in samsung note 5. any solutions?
After upgrading to the ColorOS 2.0.0i beta, the clock app has not been able to open up on my phone. Each time I've tried to open the app, the app opening animation occurs, then immediately the clock app force closes. I have no idea what's causing this force close.
Everything else is working great, and overall I've been very satisfied with the Beta.
I've tried clearing the app data and cache and rebooting. Other then that, though, I haven't been able to find a fix.
I know that FC's are apparently pretty common on the Beta, but I'm still wondering if anyone's been able to find a fix. Through all my searches, I haven't seen any fixes for it.
Any help is a appreciated! :good:
It's not a solution, but I think Timely is a much better clock/alarm app.. owned by google too.

so i made a moron move and uninstalled the Gallery app with Titanium Backup. I hate using gallery and normally i just hide it in the app drawer, but since that isn't an option any more on this phone (wtf samsung?) I got rid of it. Well now i can't open pictures from the camera app. And i would like to be able to do that. Anybody know how i can reinstall this app and get it back to normal?
thanks
Try this see of it works 4 ya
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m1kudhlxys0u1if/Gallery_1.21.1503.141_1503141754.apk?dl=0
Thanks but unfortunately that didn't work. It says it wants to update a built in app and then stops and says the app is not installed.
Try this it should install with titanium backup
https://www.dropbox.com/s/t9xppnyca89el01/com.sec.android.gallery3d-20150426-131539.TiBkp?dl=0
i think we are getting close. i installed that using TB and it said it installed. Gallery is not listed in the app drawer. However when in the camera app, if i press the picture thumbnail to launch gallery it says that the app is disabled. Before it said that it wasn't installed and it dumped me out of the camera app. it would be nice if i could just get this from samsung app store.
Restart device and check in setting and applications make sure not disabled
Yeah its not listed under disabled apps. I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any ideas? Thanks for your help so far!
Clear data and clear cache in phone settings and restart see if that helps
That didn't help. What do you think about flashing the stock rooted rom?
Yes that will be a sure way to get it back
Same thing happened to me. Nothing would restore it. Not even manually changing the priv-app/SecGallery2015 permissions etc
