Has anyone been using one of these Clingo car mounts on a captivate? What are your impressions after some time of use? Does the performance/grip decrease with time?
They seem very cool but since the back of the captivate is slightly irregular + the galaxy S name is embossed, I'm worried there could be some problems.

I bought the air conditioning vent model and the small folding desk stand. It does work as advertised. It will lose its grip as it gets dirty; however, running tap water over it while rubbing the material will bring it back to new.
I was surprised to find the build quality/craftsmanship to be very high. IIRC it comes from Ireland.
I hardly use it though. My car has gps, bluetooth, and voice command built in. Its just easier to set the phone on the seat or in the cup holder with the charger connected.
Something to also consider:
I found it to be too sticky. Takes a bit of effort to get it off. you have to peel/pry slowly to get the phone to come off without taking the ac vent with it.
As for the irregular shape of the captivate, it won't be an issue as long as you align it somewhat vertically. You will be surprised at how strong the suction is.

Do you know if it works with a case? Specifically, the Otterbox Commuter? What kind of surface sticks to to the pad?
It seems as though any type of case will stick. So far I have tried no case (bare back), full bodyguardz film (front and back), and the bodyglove tpu case with out any issue.
I have an otterbox case for my old.iphone somewhere and some silicone cases laying around, I'll try and find them and see if they stick. But so far it grabs everything.

i can tell you it will not stick to a otterbox defender ..
either way, i would never buy a car mount that the phone "sits" on. ever hear of a pot hole? i dont care how sticky it is when u get it. little dust, little vibration, little bump. FLOOR...
The mount works great!
If you don't have a slippery/smooth rubber case or back
Holds an iPhone great, won't slide off. My HTC EVO with stock battery cover only stays on for a short period of time, and the Seidio Innocase active that I have barely stays on at all. My plan is to sand down the plastic part and use a glossy paint to make it work with the mount.

You would think but I got mine 2 months ago and I love it. Never had it fall off except for when I did a really bad job of putting it on. Cleans up super easy and dries in a few seconds to new stickyness again.
I have the soft rubber l, I forget the name, case and it works great with it.
All in all I really am happy with my windshield mount version.

Does anybody know of a decent armband for this phone? I had something that worked well for my Tilt2, but I don't think it will fit quite right for the Captivate...
Subbed for this
This looks pretty decent plus it has an extra pocket for keys, cards, condoms...you know, the necessities. http://www.thepocketsolution.com/Me...4&Category_Code=samsung_captivate_accessories
It seems like it might obstruct the headphone jack. It also seems like it barely fits as far as the height goes. Any other thoughts? (thanks for the link though!)
This one has access to the screen and headphone jack. Although there is nothing over the top to secure the phone.
And no I don't have it.

Ahhh,,,,, too late, I didn't see your post in time. It already shipped. This is the AB82 tune belt. Is that the model you had?
Anybody find any other options for these? I'm looking too.
I got the TuneBelt AB82 and you were right. It was to small. I called tunebelt and they happily replaced it for their new AB83. They say its the right size but I haven received it yet. I will report back when it arrives.
I got the AB83 and it fits well. The pouch is deeper than the phone which works well for me because i have my phone in a rubber case. I can push the buttons in the front easily but you have to feel around for the side buttons. The headphone jack isn't in the right spot so I cant put the phone in top down. I guess it will be just fine until something perfect comes out.
thanks for checking back in
anyone found anything better yet? It really kills me that it is hard to for runs with this thing
So this tune belt is working out really well. The top has a slit where you slide the phone in and I have the audio jack running to it there. The plastic window stays lifted from the phone a bit so taps and swipes register perfectly. I got use to the buttons on the sides and can hit them perfectly as well. I think even if something came out that was made specifically for the captivate I wouldn't buy it myself because the tune belt is just about perfect.
really is a good case, I got it after reading this topic a couple weeks ago. Phone fits in very well, even fits in with the Amzer case on it (its a bit more snug obviously). The holes not lining up isn't a big issue, I put it in the other way (with the headphone jack up at the entry point).
As for performance, I did 60 miles on my bike the day it came in. (I was really happy it came in!.. 10 mins before we left) For the most part I forgot it was even there, phone stayed dry from sweat and a brief rain shower. Screen was usable as there was nothing in front of it, and once I dialed in on where the side buttons were inside the case it was smooth sailing there too. Was a good investment.
I just ordered the AB83 after reading this thread. Thanks guys!
Yeah that AB83 looks good, plus they show a Fascinate in it in one of the pics on Amazon. I've been having to hold my phone while I run lol it's scary always hoping the sweat doesn't make me drop it.

I posted in the Vibrant and i9000 forums, but I got the larger version of the Tune Belt. It fits with my phone still inside it's TPU case which is what I was looking for. I think the smaller version would be too tight if you want to keep it in your case.
If you have above average sized biceps, you will need the extension as the band is one of the shorter ones I've seen, but luckily the extension is very cheap and works well.
Here are some pics.

Damn, too bad none of these accommodate a 18" arm I would much rather have my phone on the arm at the gym instead of in my pocket. Sometimes when bench pressing dumbbells I have to rest the weights on my quadriceps for a short time, but if I do that with the phone in my shorts pockets, then i run the risk of laying 70-90lbs on it
I've been searching for an armband for my Vibrant for awhile and decided to get the Tune Belt Armband.
This is the one I got:
https://www.tunebelt.com/domino/tunebelt/shop.nsf/parts/3FBB580A8B45C3DA852577AD00660D14
So far it's a very good armband except in one area. The length of the band itself is kind of short. If you have decent sized biceps, I highly recommend getting the extension. It only costs a few dollars more so it's well worth the investment in case your arm is too big. This should fit just fine on most women.
The armband fits with my Vibrant still inside it's case which is exactly what I was looking for.

What type of case do you have? I have a hard, clear snap on case so I'm not sure if it will fit. I used a TuneBelt with my MyTouch 3g and it also had a clear snap on case. It was snug, but without the case it fit fine. I want to make sure I don't run into the same problem here, as I'm looking to get a new tunebelt for my new Vibrant. Thanks for the info!
Hey OP, what kind of case do you have on your phone and does it affect the fit with the Tuneband? I'd hate to have to remove my hard case everytime I want to use the phone in the tunebelt.
Thanks!
Went ahead and ordered the AB83. We'll see how it fits.
Please post results. Seems the OP disappeared.

Ok, so I got the AB83. I use a hard, clear case on the phone. With the case on, it's a bit snug at first, but with repeated use the tuneband loosens up just enough that it fits perfectly. I'm able to use the touchscreen with no problems. If I take it out of the clear case and insert into the tuneband, it fits perfectly. Either way it's a win. I recommend it!

Sorry guys. I'm still here. Forgot to check this thread more often.
The case I use is the Argyle TPU type case like the one you can get from Amzer. It's a pretty thin case, so it fits in the armband pretty well. It's a little tight getting to slide into the opening, but once you have it in there 1/4 of the way or so, it's not that hard to push it down.
If I take off the case, it slides in pretty easily.
The top part of the arm band is just a flap, so plugging in headphones is not an issue.
I'll take another picture later tonight with my headphones plugged in and how you can manage your cable.

I concur with everything you just said. Opening is a bit snug, but once you get the tip in, it's smooth sailing from there! (Hmmm......)
Clever.....
It does look like it completely cover the device, but there is space to get your headphones in there. The only issue I ever feel like I have with this acc. is the fact that the plastic sticks to the face of the device. otherwise, perfect for the job!
I use otterbox case with tune belt and its keeps plastic from sticking works perfect.

I just wanted to pass along my latest revelation. the evo otterbox fits in a garmin widow mount. You place it in just like you would the gps. Its not a perfect fit, but will hold just fine. I have been on two offroad trips with my jeep and it has not fallen out once.
EDITED FOR PICS
these are the best pics I could get. Its too dark to get a decent pic outside. It slides left to right with minimal effort, when I first tried it I didnt think it would work out well, but it has not slid on its own in several trips and about 15 miles of dirt road.
it also works well for video when you slide it all the way to the left.

as you can see, the clips just barely go around the chine of the case (the little lip where it goes from the side to the back of the case)
It gives it enough support to hold, one could add some type of nonskid padding to the bracket to prevent any movement. It shakes less than my mirrors do while driving down the road.
If it works on my rig, it should work on yours. Im willing to bet my ride shakes and wobbles more than the average car.

edit added to first post
What model of Garmin is the mount from? Or, are they all the same?
The otterbox commuter is CRAP. I've gone through 2 of them and gave up. The rubber along the bottom front of the phone is flimsy and stretches out VERY easily. Friction from taking out of my front pocket was enough to permanently deform it.

I got a universal vent/window mount from RadioShack and it works great... I use the vent mount in my wife's car and the window one in my truck..
The vent mount is a little bit of a pain to get on there and take off but it's pretty sturdy once it's locked in there... and it was only like $15-$20; it has some firm foam on both sides of the "grabbers" so that it holds really tight
Oh yeah, I have the OtterBox commuter on the phone too

You referring to the jeep or the dog? LOL. Just playin' wit ya, man. Cool solution.
Hey guys and gals,
Thought I would share my Otterbox belt clip hack with you. I wanted the otterbox case, but not the belt clip. And since the Verizon Galaxy Nexus doesn't have the 3-pin car mount yet I figured a way to make that stupid beltclip into something usefull.
Items needed:
1.) Galaxy Nexus
2.) Otterbox Galaxy Nexus case with Belt Clip
3.) Razorblade
4.) Propane torch or lighter
5.) File
6.) Old Spherical joint off cheep old car mount (I used one from an old Ipod mount)
7.) JB Weld or similar 2part epoxy
8.) 1/8" Headphone jack cable
9.) USB-to-microUSB cable with Right Angle End
10.) Time
Break or cut 1/2 of the clip off the back of the belt clip. Sand and use hot razor to smooth as necessary. Take an old spherical joint and JB weld to remaining half of belt clip (sand where bond will take place to promote adhesion). Use hot knife to open up bottom of belt clip to allow headphone jack and microUSB to be fully accessed for charging and audio out. File and sand as necessary. Mount to car, Run Cables, Enjoy. It is nice because the belt clip already had a detented rotation so you can rotate the phone to portrait or landscape easily.

That is amazing.
in a quick suggestion though, run to wallgreens and buy a nail file. It should have like 4 areas of different grit on it. (remove, cant remember, smooth, shine) (could be numbered as well) i know its weird walking in the makeup and nail area but with that nail file you could really make that bottom cutout look non existent. that is literally the only problem i see with that setup. How is the removal? Quick snap or a double hander?
Snap in and out is great. I know what you mean about the file marks, but my car is worth less than the retail price of my phone so I kinda let it go. I might use the nail file idea, and then flat black paint the JB Weld so it looks cleaner. I am just happy it works so well.
Here is a video of the rotation: http://youtu.be/F4hitx81UVg
Is that a honda? Kinda looking like the interior of mine. and this is pretty sick, i have an otterbox case, and it came with the holster. Im definitely in the need of a cardock but im not spending $50 on the piece of plastic they are selling. This is genius. im really thinking about it. Maybe tomorrow ill examine the potential of this. Well see.

I have a 1996 civic with 195k. Havent quite passed up 200 yet, getting their. And i knew it was a honda becuase that looks like mine but switched around a little bit. buttons look the same though. At least mine has a computer for quick emissions testing. yours must be a fun one to take in.
Try Velcro Brand Removable Picture Hanger with the unidirectional hooks (search Amazon for exactly that term). Should also be available at Walmart or Lowes.
Loop on the back of the phone, hook upside down somewhere on your car dash or radio. I'll take pictures of my setup later. Works like a charm. Slide the phone upwards to disengage.
nevermind...
I thought of this same idea. I found this thread and I am glad to see that you also had to file the bottom and it still worked. I would like to use my audio jack as well
edit: I considered getting a bluetooth wireless receiver but why should I? Every single one on amazon around $20 says it disconnects after pausing or something like that. I'm just gonna use my dremel on that pesky extra plastic blocking the aux port.
I just finished and it turned out quite nicely. pics soon
Taken with my trusty old DROID INCREDIBLE! (Running ICS )
I shook it up a little bit, it is still really really sturdy and you have to lift up that tab if you want the phone to pop out.
I was uncomfortable fully destroying the belt clipon so I just super glued part of my mount to the back so I can easily use the belt buckle again if I want. I don't think the plastic I took off really changes the performance much. I probably will never use the belt buckle... lol -.-
I will have pics of it mounted tomorrow.
EDIT: Posted my review - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582898&page=2
Does anybody here have any experience with these?
I originally planned to buy one for my Incredible but never got around to it. The thing that interests me about these is that they supposedly fit the phone while a case is still on. No pogo charging of course, but not having to take the case off compensates for that in my mind.
Here's their selection for the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/Galaxy-Nexus_c_21957.html
Guess I'll just have to buy one and see then.
if you are using a tpu or any case with a smooth flat back you can check out the clingo mount. thats what im using with the incipio silicrylic works great you dont even see the mount with the phone on and you can use it for your next phone.
It seems like they work well based on the few videos I found. Here's a video of the EVO version, ignore the cheesy music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb3a...DvjVQa1PpcFOK-sVRP7Ikki2KBkd2dR1aFq9dFhq7kZs=

I'm interested in the goose neck holder but I'm a bit skeptical on how their "hard rubber or silicone case" version works. If my rubber or silicone case is smaller and thinner than average, is it going to be loose? If my case is large and in-charge is it going to be difficult to remove and put in?
If anyone can provide a review, I'd love to take a good look at it. They look much better and more secure than the Arkon holder I have. The last thing I want though is something loose or hard to put in.
I'll probably be buying one of the "for Hard Rubber or Silicone Case" ones and will be using it with a Cruzerlite A2 case. I'll post a review when I do.

Awesome. I'll be waiting for that.
Broke down and ordered (gooseneck). I'll give an ETA if they send me a tracking number. Based on reviews of the same mount for other phones, it should be decent.
I bought the proclip air vent mount for my nexus! Its awesome! Well worth the price I paid!

They look good to me. If I wasn't in the process of doing the touchstone mod & hanging one of those in my car I would probably do this.
It'll probably be here early next week. Expect some pics and my thoughts.
The mount was delivered today.
My first impression is positive. It feels nice and solid.
The suction cup is large and very strong. I tried pulling it off and it didn't budge. I'll have to see how it holds up with extended use.
The goose neck is very sturdy and takes a bit of force to adjust which is good. It means it won't go moving on it's own.
The phone holder fits my Nexus nicely with either my Cruzerlite A2 or Diztronic TPU cases on the phone. The clip holds the phone snugly enough to securely hold it but not so tight that it's hard to remove. There are cut outs for the camera and the speaker on the back (pic below). Where it connects to the goose neck, there is a ball/socket type adjustment which allows it to tilt in all directions.
There's a small flaw in the design near the headphone jack. It's not cut out quite deep enough (can be seen in last pic). I'm sure this could be easily fixed by using a round file to deepen the cutout to where it should to be. This isn't a problem in my case, as I connect to my radio via Bluetooth, but it's something to consider if you need access to it.

The camera is unobstructed by the holder. The suction cup easily gets in the way, but the goose neck can be adjusted to avoid it. This is useful for recording video and time-lapses.
The mount is handy for using the Torque OBD scanner app safely in addition to GPS navigation.
The too shallow head phone jack cut out.
Overall, this is a good mount for the money. Especially if you want the ability to leave your case on. The shipping was very fast from SlipGrip and they offer a variety of other mounting options.
Pros: Fits phone with a case ON, camera cut out, nice suction cup, sturdy goose neck, universal fit.
Cons: Improper cutout for head phone jack.
Ordered some NFC stickers. Gonna put one in the dock and see how it works.
