There are some small differences in visual appearance... for example, try to find "SoundHound" in your apps - Mike has removed this in his ROM. Also, if you download an ad-ware App, try find the ads... they will be replaced by the little 'syncing' O - but won't display anything.
But yes, mostly it's the speed/battery consumption/memory use etc. that are 'tweaked' better in Mike's ROM, but it still supposed to be based on the stock ROM.
If you want your phone to look different, download ES File Explorer from the market, then download LiamStears' theme for the RevoHD ROM (find it in the 2nd post in the RevoHD ROM thread), copy it to your sim, find it in ES File Explorer, then double click it. THEN go to personalise=>skin=>liamstears(blue). This will make your phone look a little different (imo one of the better, cleaner themes available).
Revo HD ROM also allows you to OC your phone's processor upto 1.2Ghz + it's much more smoother and stable than the stock ROM.

Hey
I used the Ace Hack Kit to root my Desire HD, then out of curiosity installed the CyanogenMod, and I wonder if I can go back to HTC Sense 3.0 now?
If it is possible, will I still have root?
Thanks

I am assuming you have successfully installed CM and therefore have root.
If you have been able to install CM successfully, you can install any other ROM with the same process. There are many ROMS in the development forum.
Pick you fav ROM
Download it
Check the MD5 (an important but not a compulsory check)
Put the file on SD card
Boot into recovery
Choose Install from SD Card
Navigate to the location of ROM
Select to install it
If you want to go back to Sense 3.0, I recommend you try out Android Revolution (ARHD) roms, you can try out Runny based roms if you want Sense 3.5 and if you are ok without video recording and WLAN support, you can even try out LC's ICS rom if you want Andorid 4.
Thanks so much for the reply, I was wondering if I could go back to the stock HTC sense 3.0 rom because that's actually the only I like the most.
Is it possible to have root with a stock rom?
You will find the stock ROM right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
it's already rooted. so u dont need to root your device again
flash it just like u did with CM
Thanks so much for that link!
One last question please, After I flash the stock rom, can I still get software updates from HTC?
No, u won't get any HTC Updates. I don't think this is what you want because u would have to flash a RUU and loose root permissions.

You can update to 4.0, but trust me, it's just not stable enough. On the other hand, 2.3 is very stable and is suitable for daily use.
But both of these are a no if you're looking for "official" updates.
2. i was going through these forms and i saw a page with Cyanogen Mod 7.0.2 .what exactly is that ?? is it a new version of android??

CyanogenMod7 is a custom ROM (Details explained below)
It offers you a lot of customization and general developer support.
3. what is the difference between upgrading a ROM and upgrading android version ??

A ROM is essentially a modified unofficial. version of Android. So if your ROM is 2.3, you will upgrade to 2.3. Most of the time they will be better than stock, because they might offer more customization or tweaks not present in the stock ROM.
4. does upgrading the version actually speeds up and gives better performance??

I personally find 2.2 Sense based ROM to be smoother and a bit faster than 2.3.

Because you upgraded to the official 2.2, you have locked down your bootloader (refereed from here on now as "HBOOT")
You will first need to use a tool called Revolutionary to install a custom hboot, that will allow custom ROMs to be installed.
Go to this link: http://revolutionary.io/ and select "Download for Windows"
A .zip file will start downloading and a new form has popped up on the site. Fill it out first.
Plug in your phone and extract the .zip file you downloaded earlier.
Now just run "revolutionary.exe" and follow onscreen instructions.
After that was done succesfully your HBOOT should be version 6.XX...
Now download the HTC Wildfire ClockworkMod recovery from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
And finally in the same topic linked back there scroll down a bit and follow the "To root:" part.
And that's it, you're rooted
Now, boot back into the recovery and select "Backup&restore" and make a backup (needed if you want to go back to your old ROM)
Now after you backed up do a full wipe (inside the recovery)
Afterward put this file on your SD card (assumin you want CyanogenMod): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Also flash this to get the Market, gmail, ... :http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

For both yes if you root and use custom roms. 4.0 isn't really stable atm but maybe it will get stable like 2.3

Cyanogenmod or cm is an AOSP ( android open source project ) This is a team of devs that make roms for our htc wildfire. cm 7 is android 2.3

This looks the same because if you upgrade a rom from 2.2 to 2.3 you have also upgraded android. But i guess you mean the difference between just an upgrade an rooting and flash custom software. The difference is that when you just update yo do a little upgrade and nothing more. When flash a NEW rom it just installs a complete new version.

It could. Ofcourse you need to adjust a little with overclocking if you use stock roms. But if you use aosp roms you have a speed up because they are much smaller than the standard roms.

The best is to go to 3xeno his index with all roms and add-ons, because there you find a complete tutorial too.
I hope this was helpfull
This is actually stable (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473344) but is missing lots of features as most haven't been ported from cm7 yet.
On my device it occasionally crashed after making phone calls.
hey people..
i bought a new desire HD and updated to android 2.3.5..
so at the time rooting it got downgraded to 2.1 ,so is thr any way to upgrade it to 2.3.5 again..witout loosing the root.?
The whole point of rooting is to flash other roms - besides the other things you can do.
You would need to search for one in the dev section, and if you aren't partial to sense roms, you can even get a 2.3.7 Gb rom.
Sent from a dream.
you must flashed other ROM same from XDA Forum dev
u must download custom rom and flash it from recovery, or u can download ROM Manager apk
if you're looking for 2.3 i would recommend Android Revolution(for full sense experience and much speedier over stock) or the BlackIce if you're into minimalistic themes and lots of usefull system/system tools.
You can try this rooted Ruu 3.12.***
you can easly use the custom ROM's or use the RUU ( officiall ROM ).
download any of them and go to recovery then flash the new ROM's.
enjoy it..
hello! i want to know everything about recovery..how many types of recovery are available?? which the latest version of cm recovery? does the type of recovery affect on installation of rom??
my another question is i cant get any widgets on desktop after installing custom rom( i can see widgets of only system apps of that rom).i tried about 6 roms btw everytime i cant see widgets.. and can i uninstall system apps??
i find lot of bugs in custom roms...i tried to find rom with no bugs btw there is no such rom...is there any rom without any bugs??(i want android 4.0)
First of all, exist 2 types of recovery -> AmonRa and ClockworkMod for our phone. The latest version is v6, but some users are facing problems that made then downgrade to v5. No, there is no happening.
If you use the menu button, it'll display a little menu. You go to add, widgets. It should do the trick. Yes, u can uninstall system apps but you need an app for this. You can find some on Google Play.
Still, we don't get yet ICS (Android 4.0) bugfree rom. But you can try some Gingerbread (Android 2.3) roms.Exist a ICS full themed rom made from Gingerbread ( It's visual is exactly as ICS). If you want, i can pass on to you the link to download. Any doubts just ask =D

Hello and thank you for taking your time in reading, I will start by letting you know my samsung captivate glide is already rooted, android version 4.0.4 and stock kernel 3.1.10-I927ICLJ3-CL970642, now I found this wonderful thread in the development forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892538
mostly im interested in having more available RAM, but it does have a lot of good perks, after reading thru all 32 pages I could not find instruction on how to flash a kernel so here are my questions.
1) how do i flash a new kernel on my phone ?
2) Do i need to flash a rom as well or can i keep the stock ICS with the new kernel ?
Download and install clockworkmod .. the rest will make sense after that

Oh I forgot to mention I already have clockwork mod
not sure if you can keep the stock rom with the kernel (bone stock.) I don't see why not ... I used Dman's UCLJ3 pre-rooted rom and flashed litekernel onto it so you should be able to.
in CWM, install zip from sdcard, browse to your download folder on your phone and install it.
MAKE SURE you do a full backup first so you can revert if something doesn't pan out.

ty yohan, i see that flashing a kernel is pretty much the same as flashing a rom, I like the stock rom, how stable is Dman's ?
There's crashing issues with his AOKP lockscreen version but it could be because I installed thegreatergoods litekernel. So if you're going to download the pre-rooted debloaded deodex. etc etc.. go with the one that doesn't have the lockscreen. the 14 toggles mod will work and can be configured by quickpanel settings in apps.
One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is ICE Pop, it has a themed dialer (big plus) ... Thegreatergoods literom will be good as well, but personally I dont like the cyan and yellow colors in the messaging app.
I flashed the kernel with success but after testing it for a week I decided to go back to stock, tho speeds were amazingly fast the device was alot more unstable and I couldent handle all the crashes and reebots
