[Q] Need help with a specific rom - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for bothering you people as im not an expert here. I have an htc evo and was wondering what is the best or a good rom that still has 4g and has the latest android version cause i only have 2.2. And before putting the rom on the phone what should i do? thanks for your help?

there are many in the dev section that fit your req's. I have personally used both myn's and calk's and enjoyed them both.
As for the procedure, basically make sure you do a nand backup first and foremost. After that, wipe appropriately, meaning: system, data, and cache (both regular cache and dalvik)
Oh, and 2.2 is the best your gonna get if you want working wimax, until they integrate it into cyanogenmod.

I think all the Sense Roms have working 4g. Myns and MikFroyo are very good Roms. As far as gingerbread goes, I don't think there is a 2.3 Rom with working 4g. Before flashing a Rom, do a nandroid back up.

How would i do a nandroid back up and where would i get mikfroyo from

MikFroyo is in the development section, depending on if you are using Amon's recovery or clockwork the process for doing a nandroid back up is basically the same. Just boot into recovery, choose back up/ restore then back up. There is an HTC-evo channel on IRC on freenode.

I personally also use Calk's format all before flashing any new ROMs as well. You can find that zip in the development forum under the EViO 2 ROM.

uhhhhhhh pretty sure CM7 + WiMax has working 4G? It's only been available for like a month now and all...
least I would assume since, ya know, i am getting like 7 down on Gingerbread...maybe I just get super amazing 3G...hell what do I know? Maybe that little 4G symbol when I turn WiMax on is fake...

well you going to get flamed there is a question sub forum for the evo.
Not sure about your Aria but on evo roms a kernel is present when you flash a rom it just has to be there. Not sure where you were going with this
If you have a EVo and want to flash a sense rom just flash it, there are other kernels available but are not required to be flashed ontop in order for that ROM to work
Yup what ^ he/she said. Just make sure you wipe everything before going from and to aosp roms. Kernels are included with all roms. But when you go to the cm wimax thread you will see that you need to flash a kernel with the rom for it to work.. which is downloadable on the thread.
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Hey thanks a lot. I just wanted to be sure... I did do a search for the subject tto no avail. I appreciate you'd speedy response. He flashed the wimax rom and got stuck in the bootloader even after clearing everything so maybe just have to try it again. Thanks

I highly recommend viper rom! I get great battery and speed from the latest release. And I have no force closes at all.

The OP said he did not want to use odin and upgrade the modem.
But, I do agree that the latest viper rom is great. Using odin to upgrade the modem is not difficult and the epic is pretty much impossible to brick so I would encourage you to try upgrading your modem to dk28 and going with viper or bonsai. Both are great roms. If you don't like them it is easy to use odin to return to stock.

Yeah i agree, however viper has to much going on like the lock and unlock sounds get annoying afther a while but its still a good rom. Bonsai is probably the best rom I think super smooth and no f/c.

Syndicate rom is exactly what your looking for. No odin runs on Di18.

Oh my bad, I thought the DI18 viper rom was still available but I just checked and it isn't. So then my next opinion is Syndicate or Epic Experience.
If you're looking for a DI18 ROM, OP, just click the link in my signature.
If you want 2.1: Go with ACS rom
If you want 2.2: Go with midNIGHT, bonsai, or viper [in that order]
I was on midNIGHT for the longest and it is fast, stable, everything works! I'm currently on viper. I def like the rom. I find that the battery seems to drain faster than midNIGHT even though i'm getting about 9hrs on viper. Navigation is not working atm, but i'm sure it'll be fixed by the weekend.
That said, being a former hero owner, it may seem confusing and hard at first but its really not difficult at all... just read up and drop a reply, someone will be willing to help!
Hey man I came from a Hero and I felt really intimidated too. I actually thought I bricked my Epic first and then had to learn how to use ODIN. Its actually pretty sweet because as long as you can boot into "download mode" on your phone (the number 1 and power) you can restore back to stock via ODIN. I would suggest you take the time read up on how to use ODIN and flash the dk28 build with the modem. Just be aware that it can mess with GPS.
I finally have a ROM I like "Truley Epic Rebirth" its the only DK28 Rom that has a modified kernel that will give you full adb permissions. Every other Rom only gives you root permission via shell with is annoying if you do any font customizations or custom boot-screens etc...
Bonsai ROM definitely! 4G Sprint hotspot app works, nav, gps, no force closes. I'm running it with ADW on top and it's quite stable.

do as he says! if you don't want to upgrade to dk28 modem then syndicate ROM is def the way to go.. smoothest dkI18 rom out.
Flashing zips is easy with the epic. I say try em all and decide for yourself which one you like best. Load up your sd card and while watching your favorite tv show flash away until you find one you like. I will tell you this though, all of the 2.2 roms are based on the same kernel until we have an official source so there isn't a whole lot of difference. As far as appearance goes you can theme over any rom. Personally I'm running midnight rom with the emotionless beast theme but I change my rom out from time to time, one thing I don't change is my theme. Love the emo beast!
If you want to go to froyo then def. Bonsai. A new version is getting ready to be released and its fast and very stable.

[Q] Sprint Lovers

looking for most recent stable version of this ROM. Also, how do I backup my phone numbers using Titanium Backup?
The Sprint Lovers rom can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153
In regard to your phone numbers, if you have a Google account and numbers are in yoir Google contacts list then they will be automatically backed up and will be restored as soon as you login to your account. Be sure to go inorganic recovery and make a nandroid backup of your current setup.

The version of sprint lovers wasn't updated after his last release, it was the final. Now if you want to try another sense 2.2 rom I could recommend one. For you contacts, they're backed up with your Gmail login you started your phone with.
Myns 2.2 sense (blows sprint lovers out the water)

Check the above post I made a change. You will never want to leave this rom.
As stated by dirkyd3rk, you can't go wrong with Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo, however, if you must have something similar to stock, I highly recommend he "deodexed" stock 3.70 rom. It's darn near identical to Sprint Lovers.

You're very welcome and you're right. Myn's rom is top notch and hard to beat. I test a lot of roms, but when I "need" my EVO to work, I nandroid back to Myn's.

[Q] best rom out there for battery life epic...

so i just rooted my epic using [MOD][One Click Root]ClockworkMod version 3.1.0.1[RFS & EXT4] this method...
i was just wondering is there only certain roms i can flash with this method or is this universial, coming from the evo and everthing was compatiable.. if this is true i was looking for a rom wiki but can't seem to find one so i am wondering was everyones suggestion for rom would be for this method...
Welcome and yes every ROM is compatible with this root method. Here are some good roms to try:
Simply ASOP (my current fav.)
SFR1.2 (flash rom, then kernel, then journaling on, reboot)
RandomRom (known for best battery life)
Revolt Rom
UrbanLegend
strictly battery life, go with RandomRom. most of the mods are included like hotspot and vibrate/silent. It is using an older version of genocide kernel but you can upgrade if you please..

It's outdated, thats why. Also, there was another thread exactly like this. In that thread there was some talk of baked snack...but the developer moved on to evo 3d. I'd go with Syndicate Rom Frozen or any ERA rom.

[Q] New midNIGHT rom installation problem

Hi all,
I just tried to upgrade from midNIGHT 4.2 BYOR to 6.1 BYOR. Yes, I haven't updated my phone since March...I know, my bad. ;-)
So I went thru the proper steps in CWM recovery i.e... backup, wipe data x3, wipe cache, x3, wipe dalvic x3 & then installed the new rom. Installation shows it completes successfully & then I reboot the phone. Phone boots up fine & everything looks to be ok except for I can't open Settings>About Phone, it force closes. But everything else seems to be good. But that's not the big issue. When I power off my phone & try to boot back into CWM recovery to install the additional apps, it goes straight into backup & restore on auto-pilot. I've gone thru this process 3 times now. My phone is basically unusable like this.
I'm using CWM 3.0.0.6. Any ideas?
Your on an older clockwrkmod I'm sure that rom is not compatible with the older cwm update it 5.0.2.7 its a sticky in adroid dev. But to get past all this go ahead and odin back to stock ec05 and reroot with this recovery in its place this should solve any issues and you no longer have to wipe 3 times.
Oh no need to go back to stock but it would be helpful as it usually clears any bugs you may encounter.

Why would you want to update to midnight rom 6.1 that rom is based on a gingerbread leak. You should upgrade to cm7 or ghe ei22 based roms. I believe the guy who does the midnight rom works with the dudes at ERA. If you want to support his Roms.

I see your point. I went with 6.1 because since getting & rooting my Epic, I've only used the midNIGHT roms. I enjoyed & had great results with earlier versions so I kept with them. But truth be told, I'm having continued issues after installing 6.1, even after reverting to EC05 stock & re-rooting.
So what would you recommend I check out?

Any of the ei22 roms are great... if you decide to go with an mtd rom make sure you read up on it first as there are a lot of changes and special things that need to be done when flashing themes and such (just mounting /system, nothing hard). All the ei22 roms (I've used them all) are very stable and very snappy! Just try em all out until you fall in love with one.... legendary is my favorite though...

Nope just wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the newest kernel. The kernel has a script to do that but I just say do it for consistency.
