Hi,
I looked through the stickies and could find an answer, I am getting a bit sick of the chinese symbols that pop up whenever I reboot my handset and also, I would liek to change to WWE rom as they seem to have better benchmarks.
So, I would like to change to WWE rom, but I dont want to root my device or invalidate my warranty. The device is unbranded.
Is this possible if so, can you please point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
Ps. Im new to Android, so sorry about N00b questions.

Yes, it is possible. I flashed the WWE Official ROM on my new HTC Desire last night (It had the Asian ROM on it by default). To do that, you need to have a Goldcard.
Follow this guide of making Goldcard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
Once you have the Goldcard, download the official wwe ROM you would like to have, from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Put the Goldcard in the phone and run the downloaded official ROM RUU and DONE

Even mine isn't branded . If you try to flash an official ROM of another region you will get an "Customer ID" error. To avoid that you need Goldcard.
That's how I did it. I was trying to flash WWE on the Asian ROM and it was giving me customer ID error. Once I made the goldcard, the update worked fine

SOunds like you were in the sam situation as me, I will have a look at making a gold card and flashing WWE rom.
Where did you get your WWE 2.1 rom from? All I can find is WWE 1.2 etc.. but no 2.1 Update 1
Also, is there a risk bricking the handset doing this? Also, do think this will void my warranty?
Thanks

I don't think there are chances of bricking the phone. Just follow the steps carefully and make sure you have the HTC Sync installed.
Get the latest ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
this one: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
1.21 is the software version, it is still the firmware 2.1
As for the warranty, I don't think there would be any problem since you are not rooting the phone and you can always put the HK ROM back on it.

OK, thanks, what about readio versions? On my old handset, you had to make sure the correct radio version was flashed? Or does these flash radio and OS rom?
I'm on T-Mobile UK and getting the DHD soon. I've done quite a bit of reading on rooting and I will definitely do it for the added benefits to my phone. I have two questions surrounding the subject...
1. The VISIONary page says to have a 'safety net' ready before attempting to permaroot. Can someone tell me, or point me in the right direction (Links would be nice) to preparing a copy of the stock ROM to reinstall if something goes wrong? If there are any guides please share =)
2. If I needed to send it for repairs would the only thing I really need to do is to use VISIONary to Unroot the phone? What about any apps that required rooting? Would they have to be un-installed first? I assume that in such a scenario once I got the phone back just re-root it again.
Hi and welcome to XDA.

One such "safety net" is to ensure you have all the correct drivers installed on your host computer, just install HTC Sync 3 and it will take care of that. Also download the correct RUU (Rom Update Utility) for your particular region & carrier. You can use this to revert your DHD to the state it was when you took it out of the box.
Here you can find the --> Desire HD Files. HTC Sync will come on the SD Card of your new phone.

Using the above RUU's your DHD will be factory restored. Everything you did will be reverted back. All the apps you installed will be removed. There would be technically no way HTC would know you rooted your DHD.

Thanks for the answer.
How do I know what RUU to use? From my glance I would assume mine would be the: TMO DE 1.39.111. Also know how I can confirm if it's the same version as mine or older? thanks.
If your getting it from T-Mobile UK then you will need a TMO-UK RUU, sadly there isn't one available yet. The TMO DE is for T-Mobile Germany.
You could use a generic HTC RUU, just find the latest version. If you are planning to root, S-OFF, etc... then avoid this --> RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_ 26.04.02.17_M2_release. As this will lock down your DHD.
Thanks again. Though I'm not sure if I shouldn't just wait for a TMO-UK RUU to make an appearance before I root my phone.....Would a generic HTC RUU work for my current firmware? Also wouldn't a generic RUU be a problem if I tried to send it back for repairs?
Oh also I heard mention of a gold card a couple of times here and there. Would this be needed for using an RUU?
No problem at all,
Yes a generic HTC RUU would work. I got my DHD from Orange UK, as it was from the first batch I received it unlocked & unbranded, just a generic HTC DHD. Although carriers will supply you with a branded & locked handset 99% of the time, people still get generic HTC handsets.
If it went in for repairs, T-Mobile will just replace the software for their own anyway.
A goldcard is a modified SD Card that will allow you to flash unsigned ROM's to a locked (S-ON) handset.
Hi.
My Device:
HTC Desire PVT4 SLCD rooted, s-off
since my homebutton doesnt work anymore i wanted to make use of my warranty and send in the device. Problem is: it was t-mobile branded, so i had to s-off the device and use those custom installations (with the slcd installer and the OTA update i had to rename to update.zip. got the tutorial from a german site whose admin is known for helping with desire problems and stuff)
i follwed the instructions 1:1 but it somehow didnt work properly
Problem: My device is stuck on a certain screen and wont boot anything anymore.
The screen: HTC logo in the middle, triangles with ! in every corner
absolutely no reaction to any keypresses, the only thing that produces some kind of reaction is plugging and unplugging the usb cable, which gives me a screen similar to the bootloader screen that says:
--- AlphaRev ---
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
Aug 10 2010,17:52:18
RUU (the only "usable" option, though i cant use it. its in orange)
What do i do now?
My device is, as stated above a german t-mobile device.
ive googled for hours now but dont find anything particular (especially since there are so many different desires out there today and t-mobile doesnt seem to like people to get a hand on their newe RUUs, or do they?)
i found the austrian RUU on t-mobile.at though i read on some german sites that this wont work on my device (maybe brick it even more?)
on shipped-roms.com there is a UK t-mob RUU, though i dont know whether this is 2.2 (since 2.1 doesnt have SLCD drivers) so im not sure whether to flash this one either
Can i even use a RUU at this point?
if you need any information i maybe forgot, tell me and ill try to find out
thanks in advance
(cant provide links since i am a first time poster)

I think it is an UK ROM, so no German/Austrian one.
I found an thread in a German forum and they have linked an Austrian t-mobile RUU for Desire SLCD: http://www.t-mobile.at/servicedownloads4you/webnwalkmanager/HTC_Desire_Froyo_Update_RUU.zip
You need to unzip the file, don't flash the ZIP on your Desire!

thx a lot, someone on the german forums wrote something about the austrian rom not being compatible with german desires, so i flashed aforementioned UK RUU and it worked
Thx all, problem solved

Jerrol, here is a complete guide how to unroot the Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
It's easier than it seems ...
Short: After you flashed the stock Desire hboot (see here: http://alpharev.nl/) you can run the RUU via PC.
But don't try to install the RUU.zip via recovery. Just unzip it an run the .exe.
Cheers

Anyway, following the guide to unroot your Desire should be the best way to succeed

Hi.
You don't need to flash any HBOOTS or HBOOT donwngrader. Since you are S-ON you can't even do this, so exclude it from your steps and continue.
It can be a conflict with your HBOOT version if the RUU you are trying to run is too old and has a smaller HBOOT version (e.g. 0.80), and it won't install properly.
I always recommend to use the latest RUU available WWE 2.29.405.5, but this is at your discretion to choose. Also make sure your phone wasn't branded, or you'll going to need a Gold Card to install the RUU.

You need a Goldcard, yes. You have a branded phone. Only unbranded don't need it.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 Post 2 point 4 ff.:
4. Do I need a Goldcard?
If you have a recent version of the RUU for your Device, available on Shipped Roms, you dont need a goldcard. This is the usual scenario for people who purchased their Desire in Europe, and so have an unbranded Desire. All Branded Desires need a correct branded version of the RUU, and any other RUU including WWE (Worldwide English, or European) RUU will not work for them. Also if an unbranded Desire user wishes to change RUU to a branded version, he will need a Goldcard. This is because all Desires have a particular software tag in the Rom, called the InfoCID. This dictates the Region code. For Eg. An Indian Desire is branded and has InfoCID of HTC__038. When you change a RUU to different region, what you actually do is reset the InfoCID setting. Changing the InfoCID setting requires a Goldcard.
5. What is a Goldcard?
It is a normal MicroUSB card specially prepared in such a way that its Sector 0 (which normally doesnt hold anything useful) is modified, so that it signals to the HTC RUU that the InfoCID may be changed.
6. How do I create a Goldcard?
Just download this tool (Credits and All Rights by [email protected]), and run it.
7. Can you tell me more about Goldcards?
Sure. I've already posted it for you. Read the FAQs in this thread.

Hi you should make sure that the version ain't lower than what you have on your phone ( the version is 2.12.110.4 ), or, as I said, there will be a HBOOT conflict (if the HBOOT is lower).
Anyway I think you can give it a try without the Gold Card, since this is T-Mobile RUU, it should work, although it is recommended you make a gold card. There are lot's of threads on how to do this even without the phone.
Nothing bad will happen, besides the fact that it won't work and give you an error.

+1. I totally agree!
So, I'm running Android Revolution HD 6.0 and I want to get back to stock...
My phone came with an Asian Rom of some sort and I have a Nandroid Backup.
I've tried to simply flash a Ruu "Europe_1.29.401.11" but it force close before any process start.
Do I have to get back to that stock, then relock the bootloader to do so???
Can I re-Unlock the bootloader if I need sometime??
It's my first HTC, I'm ok about using odin and rsd lite but never flashed any Ruu, so in HTC matters I'm pretty noob.
Thanks.

You have to re-lock bootloader to flash official RUUs, and you can unlock it everytime you want using the unlock.bin you get from HTCdev (on your mail).
But you have to be sure you are using the right RUU
Read the threads relating to ruu carefully. Pretty important.
One thing. You can't use any ruu. Your phone did have a Asian rom initially and so you need the ruu corresponding to that area. And if phone was branded, you need the ruu specific to that brand.
So like if you your phone was from Hong Kong region, you need Hong Kong specific and carrier specifi(if your hox was branded ) ruu.
One more thing, u can only use the ruu of your current os version.
So if you're on 1.29.11, you can't use ruu for 1.29.7
See stickies for in android development section for ruu.
Although I think re locking bootloader should be enough and you should be good to use ruu, do check it.
Not sure if it would require flashing stock rom or stock recovery.
Last thing... Why use ruu? It's probably the last thing you should do unless it's a try to reclaim warranty.
I just want to get my phone to a stock rom, that was why...
but I guess I'll just stick to custom roms, since the Ruu stuf is actually pretty scarring... I tought it was simple to do, since fhasing via odin was always fast and safe...
But that's ok!
Thanks!!!

1. Find the correct RUU
2. Flash stock recovery(not 100% sure if needed, I did it though)
3. Relock bootloader

You can only flash the one that matches your region ... to find that out, you first have to find out your CID (something like HTC_001 or O2_002) out with THIS tool from the play store...and in the bootloader you will find the HBOOT version (0.94, 0.96 ...) ... post both here and ill let you know which RUU you need

Hahaha sorry, it was late The 777 above is the region and/or branding, here again the right way:
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_........................_X.XX.YYY.XX_Rad io_B.BBBB.BBB.BB_release_...........
X= software version
Y= region and/or branding
B= radio version
edit ... If you still dont see, here:
The first 8 numbers are for software version and region/branding (region and branding are the numbers between the 2nd and 3rd dot, the other numbers are the software version) and the 2nd 10 numbers are the radio version
muamers said:
You can only flash the one that matches your region ... to find that out, you first have to find out your CID (something like HTC_001 or O2_002) out with THIS tool from the play store...and in the bootloader you will find the HBOOT version (0.94, 0.96 ...) ... post both here and ill let you know which RUU you need

How do I find the CID? I have rooted my phone by htcdev and I have not experienced the basic way to find the CID of my phone.

I have the HTC DHD and I just want root access on my current ROM. I'm running the stock Sense 3.0 Android 2.3.5. I have considered using the aahk for this job but I think there is no way to backup my current ROM before downgrading. I will be flashing other ROMs once I have root so i need a S-OFF as well. I just need a copy of my current ROM because my phone is still under warranty and I want to have the ability to unroot it and return it to it's former state if I ever need to. I know that the aahk is the way to go, I just don't know how to make the backup of my current ROM before the downgrade.
Wht version of the rom do u have. Plus if u just want to backup ur rom for warranty or returning to stock, u can do tht by running stock RUU on your phone but i am not sure if u can find specific carrier roms but as for WWE(worldwide edition) i am sure u can.

On the phone under "Software number" it says 3.12.405.1. In the efffen manual the only ROM with that number is HTC WWE Europe 3.12.405.1 . Is that the same ROM? If it is, also in the efffen manual it says that it downgrades HTC WWE Europe 3.12.405.1 to HTC WWE EU GB 2.50.405.2...
That is exactly why I want to do the backup before I downgrade.
Do you need to know what carrier I'm on to help me or is the ROM number enough?
No I thinks it's ok. Use apps from market to backup stuff like sms/mms, contacts before rooting.
Poor Judgement

Since you need to downgrade from your current version to root your phone, I'm not aware of a way to back up your current app data or system settings. You can back up your apps, though, with Titanium Backup or something similar.

Don't follow YouTube videos; they can be outdated or unclear. Use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit; it does everything for you. Google for it: "attn1 aahk."

I don't need my current app data backed up, I'm just interested in backing up my ROM (not system setings) so that I could use my warranty once I need it (via unrooting).
Muikkuman: So you're saying that I can download my ROM? Could you please post me the link?

AAHK includes an unroot option with a stock RUU. You can unroot and reflash a stock (maybe not YOUR stock, but a stock) with it.

Yeah, but I need my RUU for the warranty to be valid... Could you please check if it includes that specific one?

I see what you are asking now. I believe it comes with a WWE RUU, so no, it is not.

Wait, that's not the file name. The link should be from a site with" tau" and "shadowchild" in it.

Yeah, you are spamming here. That is not the question I have asked... Look it up on the efffen manual and other Q&As. If that doesn't help make your own question. Hope you find your answer soon.

I'm not sure how warranties work (mine is long out of warranty), but yes, if you need to have the same build version on the phone as when you got it, you will need to find your original RUU.

There's a stickied index thread at the top of the DHD Development forums. I'd start there.
