[Q] EVO Back to stock as on release date???? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Q] Is there a way to make the evolution completely back to stock as it was back in June when it was released? I mean H-Boot, price, radio, wimax, etc.????

All the RUUS you need. Select the one you want, boot your phone into the bootloader and select fastboot, then run the RUU exe.

If you have flashed a custom splash screen, you may want to replace it with stock first, before using the RUU. I believe I used an RUU before, and found out after the fact that it didn't touch the splash screen. Hope this helps!

This was my exact thought. Is the stock splash available anywhere? Instead of running the RUU to revert back to stock, if you instead use the stock PC36img.zip would that replace the splash screen?
I was thinking about switching my splash, but wondering how to go back to stock if need be first.
EDIT -- Found stock splash 2nd post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205

Before I swapped out my opening day EVO [warranty claim], I ruu'ed it and forgot to change the splash and I partly thought that the ruu would overwrite this as well.... anyways, I had to reroot, change the splash back to stock, and then ruu it again. doh.

Rooted and unable to backup stock ROM

ok, i downgraded from 1.72 to 1.34, ive got perm. root and want to install a custom ROM, problem is clockwork wont backup my current (stock) ROM, it reboots and freezes at the white htc screen.
anyone shed any light on why i cant backup?
Did you boot into recovery and try there? Did the process complete and then freeze?
Really got to add detail for anyone to help u

from Rom manager if i attempt to backup, it reboots but freezes at the white htc screen.
from bootloader - recovery it freezes at the white htc screen.
Sounds like your recovery isn't properly installed. I assume you used ROM manager to install it? If so try to manually flash CWM using flash_image
Use this thread for a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
You can get the latest version of CWM (currently 3.0.2.4) here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html just scroll down to the link that says "HTC G2"
After you flash try to manually go into recovery and see if you get past the HTC screen.
still the same, freezes at the white htc screen, she'll just have to get used to using a stock ROM.
What does flash_image report? Does it seem to work or does it throw an error?
You have verified you have S-OFF?
You may still be able to flash the ENG HBOOT and flash recovery from there using fastboot.

it does have s-off.
the flash seems to work but still cant get passed the white htc screen.
Did you install the engineering hboot? If so you can try flashing your recovery with fastboot.
Don't think so, I just followed the rooting guide using adb.

I have same problem. Any custom ROM freezes at the htc screen.
I download PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip and install.

Well generally I wouldn't recommend the engineering HBOOT for casual users (I don't use it myself) but it does have an advantage in that you can flash recovery from fastboot.
I would do that next.

I can get into recovery, but it's useless. No one custom ROM not boot. And official PC10IMG.zip from rom.zip too.

Need help here, flashed the wrong H-Boot (DesierZ) on stock Tmobile G2 Rom

God damn it, I think I messed up here. I got a replacement G2 since mine has gone bananas! So I got Rooted with S-Off but I think I flashed the DesireZ PC10IMG.zip since I wanted to install doubleshot roms and so on. However after I flashed it my phone gets stuck at the HTC screen now?
When I try to boot into Recovery it's still under Recovery v3.0.2.4 so I can't even restore my phone to a previous back up since these back ups were created with the latest Recovery version.
I went ahead and downloaded the stock G2 Rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788489
However, when I renamed it to PC10IMG and put it on the the root of the SD-Card Bootloader will not flash the .zip and I get some sort parsing message and I get right back to the Bootloader screen.
I also can't follow the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999796 - to restore the stock H-Boot since I can't even boot the damn thing!
HELP!
Flash a new rom in recovery, or if you have eng hboot, flash latest recovery, restore nandroid.
-Nipqer
What does it say when you go into the bootloader? There should be a hboot version towards the top of the screen?
Also, have you tried flashing a rom using recovery? It sounds like it is working- just get a normal rom, nothing that is named PC10IMG.zip. Maybe try one of the CM stable releases.

Stuck at White HTC Boot Screen, Can't get to Recovery

Hey,
I was trying to load up the new radios and when I did it my phone kept losing connections to 3G and everything so I tried to update hboot to the latest and now I can't get past the HTC EVO 4G White Screen. I can still access Hboot but I can't get to recovery.
I was loading the radios from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
I tried to install the PC36IMG from RA-supersonic 2.3 but its not giving me the instruction to install it. It reads the PC36IMG.zip in Hboot but I don't get an option asking do I want to install it.
I got the file from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Is there a way for me to get to recovery? My phone won't boot past the screen, I assume if I can get back to recovery I can wipe it and use a different ROM. Thanks

Are you still showing S-OFF? When you flash your hboot you also have to flash a new kernel in order for it to boot, the recovery on the other hand should still work regardless.
Its showing Supersonice EVT2-2 Ship S-ON. Does that mean I lost root?

Thanks for the help, I'm on HBOOT-2.16.0001
So do I need to start back from the beginning. I found this link that is for Rooting with Hboot 2.16, I just want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing. The other link is to downgrade my Hboot but it says I need to be S-Off to do it. My phone can't boot past the White HTC screen right now. Is there a way to unroot through Hboot or something without the phone being loaded? Thanks again

Running the latest RUU should get your phone up and running again. Then just use revolutionary again and you should be S-OFF again. Also be sure to permanently set S-OFF with unrevoked forever before flashing a new hboot.

I tried flashing the deodex version of the stock ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245291.
I downloaded the file and changed the name to PC36IMG.zip. I turned on my phone to Hboot which read the file but I didn't get a message asking if I wanted to install it, the bar went for a little while and then it went to "Checking...[PC36IMG.zip]" but I don't know if it actually flashed anything. When I rebooted my phone it just went back into FastBoot. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? It still won't let me into Recovery, it just freezes at the HTC EVO 4G screen. I haven't gotten caught in this loop before. Thanks for the help

With S-ON you'll only be able to flash PC36IMGs that have been signed by HTC, otherwise it will reject it. This one here should work for you though.

Trying to unroot

Okay, so S-OFF on my phone. I tried to do the forever unroot zip, but that didn't work..so i flashed the stock PC36IMG.zip file. Now the phone doesn't boot at all..it gets stuck at the white htc evo 4g screen. Recovery mode is inaccessible (has the evo with a red triangle). Is there anyway to fix this?
Yes, but need more info from your bootloader, especially your Hoot version and radio numbers.

You can't flash that zip, because your HBOOT is a newer version than the one which you're trying to flash. Red triangle, is the recovery, stock recovery. If you push vol up + power, you'll see android recovery system. Try running an RUU of the stock ROM you want.

Only way of doing that is from within an operational phone, Android environment. Or via custom recovery. Since yours isn't booting. Boot your bootloader, choose fastboot and flash a custom recovery via cmd prompt. From within the recovery you can mount the phone, turning the SD card in your phone into a flash drive on your computer.

A RUU is an executable file that runs on your computer environment which will push the ROM to your phone via sync cable. RUU= ROM update/upgrade utility.
Must you have S-On, to switch carriers, or do you just need the stock ROM on your phone?

I didn't see that you had clockworkmod as your recovery before. That's probably why it didn't work. I agree with the above; I'd just flash a stock rooted ROM. Just download the PC36IMG.zip for RA-supersonic v2.3 and put it on the root of your sd card (you can take it out of the device and connect it to a computer using a card reader) to flash in bootloader.
My phones touch screen is acting up..and i think it was the rom.
Fastboot > RUU > PC36IMG (hboot 2.16.00001 S-ON) > RUU. Best way in my opinion.

Possibly Bricked (Will not boot to HBoot or Recovery)

A while back, my brother's incredible randomly stopped working, he blamed me for rooting and s-offing it, and moved on to the iphone world.
Today, I decided to give fixing it a go, and I think I have made it worse...
Before, I couldn't boot into recovery or the system, but fastboot and hboot were working fine.
Then, I decided to try this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031752).
It finished successfully, and the incredible rebooted to the white incredible screen.
Then, it goes into the software update screen for a second or two and finally bootloops all over again.

None of the links in that thread work so im not sure ecactly what you did. I assume it had you flash the eng hboot, fastboot flash some partition img's, and then reflash .92 hboot and do an ruu? If you cant boot, or enter hboot, the phone is bricked.

Yeah thats just the eng hboot i downloaded, no instructions though on what exactly they had you flash. Doing an ruu could possibly brick the phone. A phone usually gets bricked with a bad radio flash, ruus flash a radio, so sometimes things can go wrong. Or it also flashes an hboot so something may have gone wrong there and now there is no working hboot. It may have been some sort of incompatibility between the img's you flashed and the img's in an ruu. What img's did you flash (misc, boot, recovery?), also what ruu did you flash froyo or gb?

I flashed clockwork 5.0.2.0 and the misc you recommended here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25522827&postcount=31)

Does the RUU not flash everything?

Yes the ruu should reflash all partitions. I thought mabey you used the wrong ruu to match the mtd0.img, but if you used the one from that thread it was the correct one.
Yeah if you cant run an ruu, get into hboot, recovery, or boot, then im sad to say the phone is a brick.

Mabey since the phone cant boot to the os or hboot, it auto boots to recovery and tries to load an image. Try renaming an ruu to update.zip instead of PB31IMG.zip, place it on the sd card in no folders and see if the phone will try to use it.
Are you able to get adb to work from the splash screen?

That sucks the worse part is you lost your brother to iDrone.
Could be a hardware failure probably no way to ever know.
