I really want to root my deisre, but I dont know where to start.
My system information on desire is
Android version 2.2
Baseband 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gd966f2c0
Build 2.14.207.1 CL233777
All I want to do is be able to install apps2SD, I read somewhere with app2sd+ it lets you fool the phone in thinking you have more internal memory is this true?
I am a complete NooB at this so I just dont want to jump right in, I would like to somehow backup my stock ios so if anythink does go wrong and can reinstall back to default. All help welcome
shanks
look at the stickies, theres ghuides for everything!
if anything does go wrong, then just get the same RUU you've got now, and flash..
hope this helps!
Seems my ruu is.nt there?

Lol I never I just checked, so is ill all good then. If I mess up I can just install that ruu you posted
Thanks again great support on this site ha

You can indeed but if you read the guides carefully and be thorough you can't really go wrong
Thanks I'll have ago on Saturday off work then, if I do all this and 2.3 comes out can I still update or have I got to install a 2.3 Rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A 2.3 official update to a branded desire is not going to come soon, anyhow you'll be rooted soon and a custom rom version of 2.3 will be released months before the official, so you might as well just stick with a custom 2.3 ROM.
But if you decide you want the official 2.3, then you apply the RUU, and then the update.
Ok thanks witch Rom is the best out there for app2SD?

Anything that supports EXT4
EXT3 is enough for A2SD+
Am going to try leedroid that seems the best out there from what I read
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's not, just a lot of people seem to recommend it...
What would you say is better?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's not really fair on the dev's to state a 'best' rom, i would suggest you try a few different roms out as it will be down to your own personal preference. The most popular ones are listed on the first page of the Android Development section of the forum. Have fun flashing

That's about as good a reply as you'll get
Yes your probably right, I'll try leedroid out first. If it dose what it say I don't think ill try anymore. Just want 1gb of internal memory lol

Hi forum...
In the Sonyericsson X10 section, we have a flash util, so we can flash whatever firmware version we want...
Do something like that not exist for the desireHD ?

It's called radio S-OFF.

Thanks for your answer..
So there is no flashtool to use, in order to revert back to an older Rom like them we have available to our X10 phones ?
The x10 can be flashed with all kind of stock roms using a simple flashtool, and without any changes like Root and s-off things...
The tool probably act like Sonyericssons update service SEUS..
But to understand this correct, there is no way back at all for us who didn't think about it, and just updated to the latest firmware ?
I'm sorry for the questions, but many things is called something else, and looks completely different here at desire hd section, when I am used to the x10 terms...
So it is all a little confusing...

Take a look in the Android Development section of the DHD Forum and you will find all you need. You do need to get root and then RADIO S-OFF but there are two simple tools to achieve that. See HERE for the guide.
If u accepted the latest OTA and did not have radio S-OFF then there is no way back................at the moment.

It is possible somehow to check if you have Desire Z or G2?
I am asking because I would like to find stock ROM for my phone. What I know is that CID is HTC_032 if it is of course useful information. My operator is Era.
Your kidding right?
Anyway just look at the back of your phone if it just says hTc than you have the desire z if it says G2 you have the G2, but the G2 is only on tmobile so unless you imported it you have the desire Z.
Or if it says tmobile on the top of the screen its a g2.

Ok thanks guys i wanted to make sure i know all about that

If you are still on the stock ROM, you can check the ROM version by going to Settings>Phone Information>Software, or something similar (I'm not on the stock Sense ROM anymore, so my menus are a bit different). You should be on the stock Euro Desire Z ROM, but there are 1.34 and 1.72 versions (and multiple versions of each). Newer DZ's might be shipping with the 1.72.
You can get the stock ROMs here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
Ok nice link, but has sb some key to figure out which could be the one from Era or at least for Polish market?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Are you still on the stock ROM? Did you check the ROM version like I instructed?
Unfortunately not and this my problem.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Looks like the OP has a DZ and not a G2. How can you tell? The XDA app detects what phone you have, correct?
Correct me if i am wrong, but having "HTC Vision" would mean "HTC Desire Z" and having "T-Mobile G2" would mean "G2". Unless that is ROM dependent, but still, it is a slight indication.
Did you purchase the phone used? Where are you located in the world?

No I bought it as a new from one of our telcom providers Era. So it was probably branded, right? My region is Poland.

Did you do a Nandroid (Clockworkmod) backup before flashing the custom ROM? You should always do that. That will let you return to stock. Not sure how much branding the Euro carriers do to their phones. Someone else on your carrier will need to provide some info.

Yes, now I know it so now I am like Robinson Crusoe, flashing new ROMs and making backup from the last one which was working. Now I am on Virtuous and I like it pretty much.
I kinda figure that would be the case (no backup) but just threw it out there, as it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.
Does your carrier have stores where you can walk in and look at the demo model to see what ROM version? Was the stock ROM in English, or Polish? If English, I'm guessing that one of the WWE ROMs on shipped-roms.com is what you want, but there are 8 to choose from.
Otherwise, I think users on here from your carrier are your best hope. Maybe change the title of the thread to something like "Please help: Polish Era customers, Stock ROM version needed" to get their attention.
Any particular reason you want the stock ROM? Do you need to return to factory condition for warranty, or just want to have the stock ROM on hand in case that ever happens?

Is it possible somehow to make a backup of original stock Rom, if it is 1.7 or 1.8? I had to make a downgrade before rooting to 1.34 according ti the guide, so you do you mean backup of 1.34 or 1.7?

Ok, but how to do this before downgrading and rooting? I have found a colleague who has the phone from the same operator I would like to get from him his Rom because I didn't make backup of my own original stock one. We would like to do this before downgrading and rooting. How to do that?

Hi Everyone!.. New to XDA and it's really helpful.
However, I am unable to find the answer to my query...
I have a HTC Wildfire S. Great phone don't get me wrong. I updated the software to 2.3.5 and I've hated it ever since Everyone moans about the "lock screen" but I don't have a problem with that. It's the fact it's slower and I am unable to root it.
Hence my question.. can you downgrade a WFS to 2.3.3 from 2.3.5?
All help would be appreciated
Yes, you can.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445867
you can do it , but also you can root it ! since you have an unlocked bootloader or s-off you can get permanent root using superoneclick , and flash custom recoveries and others !
downgrade from 2.3.5 to 2.3.3
hello i wanna know the procedure to downgrade my htc wildfire s.I also wanna know that will downgrading help in removing the "RELOCK" status of my phone to "LOCKED" for warranty purpose
. PLease help me I want my warranty
Guess what? It's old thread bump time!
My father wants to take my old Wildfire S (GSM) as I don't need it anymore ('updated' to Nexus 4). However I had CM7 on it and he disliked it for being different than Sense he knew from his Desire Z. I installed custom Sense 3.5 but he didn't fancy it either.
I can go back to stock 2.3.5 Android as I have it in my CWM backup folder in PC, but I know it will work similar to what I have now, that's why I need a tutorial how to go back to stock 2.3.3.
TL;DR - I must flash stock 2.3.3 on GSM Marvel.
Thanks in advance

The first screen you see after powering on your phone is called the splash-screen and it can't be changed until s-off. Google is your friend.

You can update by locking your bootloader again and flashing RUU (google on how to do that), but if something goes wrong during RUU installation, then your device will be bricked.
From what I've read, flashing/installing RUU is one of the most dangerous things you can do to your phone, because if anything goes wrong (eg. your battery is not >30%), your device will be bricked.
BTW, don't regret that you unlocked your bootloader/rooted. It's one of the most fun things to do with your phone. Just make sure you read guides first so you don't screw up viewing youtube videos before installing stuff helps a ton too.

Flashing an RUU is pretty safe if you have battery. Crossing the road with hox in pocket is more dangerous.
