You can wipe through bootloader.

Go into the stock recovery and push Volume Up + Power, a menu will come up that will let you do a factory reset.

So just clear storage in stock recovery

Are you guys making sure you're using the cache wipe and super wipe scripts, and not doing anything within the recovery menus? Backup and reboot are the only 2 recovery options that should be used.

If you use TWRP recovery you can wipe from recovery. I have been using this recovery for almost 2 weeks. I have flashed both ICS leaks CM9 and AOKP without issues aside from known bugs.

Phone freezing Shell granted su access?

My phone has been locking up on the homescreen. I can't scroll pages or open apps. It then comes back to working and says "shell granted su access" on the bottom of the screen . Are these two instances connected ? How do I fix it from freezing like this?
Mine does the exact same thing, have no idea what causes it but it does become a pita!

OK, did this appear after rooting or after flashing a ROM once rooted? If it is first option how did you root (link would be helpful) and what is your superuser app?

Okay so I had this same problem happen again and so I started searching all over and came across a thread in the i9300 section where another was having a similar problem. He concluded that after the phone had been up for 24 hours or so there was a big memory leak with kiesexe found in /system/bin. So he made a cwm zip that disabled kiesexe in that folder. I flashed it the other day and haven't had that problem yet and I've also gained about 100 mb more ram! I'm just heading to bed so I'll post it all tomorrow for anybody else having that stupid issue!

Fixed it on mine by installing supersu from market ..make sure to give it root access then remove superuser.. there is some bug in last version OS superuser.

[Novice] Question about wiping??

So when i flash any ROMs i always do the instructed wiping before anything else but I've come across some ROMs that instruct that you wipe the system? What gets erased when you do so?

The system folder. Use es file explorer and go up to root directory to see for yourself. It has apps, data and many other things.

flashing a new rom wipes system. not sure why they would be asking you to specifically wipe that.

That doesn't even do it. Just user data. Still has any kernel/ROM/system mods.
Clean slate would be to flash stock ROM using Odin.
