special characters in sms bug? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi!
is there any fix or something to remove special characters from sms?
im from Portugal and for example the word "já" if i type it with the accent in the "a" it ocupies 90 charecters from the 160 sms limit.. but if i type the word "ja" without the accent in the "a" it only occupies 2 characters.. what a weird bug..
im using cm7 with go sms and swift kb..
is there any way to skip the accents special characters etc?
for example if i write the word "não" it automatically changes to "nao" to skip the chars..
thanks all

yes there is. you need to use htc_ime mod. it is an improved version of stock htc keyboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663608
read this post, so u will know what to do
it installs as a regular apk.
other options are:
-3rd party SMS application with that option
or
-if you use swype then you would have to find a ASCII version

thanks.. isto use swift and i love it.. dont want to get back to htc ime mod :x
well i will search for more info.. in last option i have to go backup to htc ime. :x
thanks

HTC IME Mod keyboard with Voice + Swype = possible?

Is it possible to have the above mentioned keyboard mods together at the same time? As far as I can tell only one can be chosen at a time.
You mean the HTC_IME kb but with the Swype kb functionality?

Yes, of course. Is there any way to have all the functionality of both those keyboards at the same time? I don't have voice search as standard so i need htc-ime mod for that but i also want swype.
I'm also very interested in this. Mainly, I HATE the predictive text in swype. I love the HTC_ime mod keyboard, but the swype is very convenient...
Any chance of this at some point?
Generally, no. Both HTC IME and Swype are closed source and probably patent protected. Adding such functionality to HTC IME will not be possible without sources.

The closest you would be able to get is a themed Swype kb.

Froyo 2.2 Nexus 1 ROM c/w PHONE keypad ?

Just flashed my first few ROMs last night and I'm loving it I've put a couple of different ones on and I do like Sense but I really love the Nexus One type ROMS, only problem is I just can't live without the 'Phone' Keypad type keyboard that comes with Sense.
So is there a good stable 2.2 Nexus ROM for the desire that includes a Phone Keypad keyboard ?
I've searched but it's easy to get lost in here and I just can't seem to find one (if one exists).
Defrost, presuming you mean the HTC keyboard. Settings>keyboard>HTC. Keyboard

Try Dialer One from market, it's simmilar to HTC Phone application.
You can't have native HTC widgets and applications right now.
If you searching for HTC_IME keyboard, you can find mod here that work on 2.2 stock roms.
Ok thanks for that.
It's the 'Phone' Keypad keyboard I'm after, as in the XT9 type keyboard.
EDIT: It's for text input in apps such as Messaging so Dialer one isn't suitable. HTC_IME keyboard I've tried and it just gives the qwerty type KB (unless I missed something).
htc ime mod is the same as the standard htc keyboard. Go into settings and choose the keyboard that suits you.

I really thought I'd tried that and it never had the Phone keypad keyboard option, I'll re-flash the nexus rom and have another try - was the HTC_IME Keyboard in the Market for the nexus ?

Install both clicker and the mod
Settings > Language + Keyboard > Tick IME box > Now click IME mod settings > Keyboard types > Phone keypad.
or you could just go to messages and when on keypad hold down optical enter button and select input method.
Thankyou all
All sorted now, really loving the Froyo without Sense now I have the right KB back
hey guys.. is there anyway to do the opposite?
im using a HTC sense 2.2 rom but love the default froyo keyboard. is there anyway to install it?
cheers!
hello
hello,do you have htc chinese default input?
i cant find it, and i need that input very much!

Any way to fix HTC keyboard's prediction?

Hi,
I don't like the word prediction on the standard HTC keyboard. If Itype a word that's not in the dictionary, I can either change it to the word the prediction suggests, or insert + save the word I typed in.
the problem is, sometimes I DON'T want the word saved, like it's a one-time-use word. the prediction on the android keyboard was much better; tap the word once to insert, tap another time to save. (but I like HTC keyboard's symbols-handling better)
any way to get this "tap twice to save" on the HTC keyboard too?
btw does anyone have a download link to android keyboard?
edit: oh and is it possible to turn off the "buggy" text reflow in the web browser?
Tap twice to save is not possible afaik with the standard HTC keyboard. However, if you search for the HTC_IME mod by some guy called Jonas, you will find a modded version of the keyboard which you can configure somewhat into the direction you described. Root isn't required for this keyboard btw.
Good luck!

GO Keyboard - stop processing the hardware keys!

Currently on CM7.1, using the latest version of GO Keyboard. Does anyone have any idea on how to disable prediction for the hardware keyboard?
The thing is, when inserting special characters (such as ă,î,ș) the SMS character number shrinks from 160 to 70 (some Unicode boulderdash is involved).
Whenever I send long messages (and I usually do) I use the hardware keyboard in order to avoid inserting special characters, so that's my way of disabling prediction.
I don't want to use Swype/MultiLing or other keyboards because they add special keys for Romanian characters, which I find pointless (prediction can be done using a normal English QWERTY layout) and also space-wasting.
So, any ideas? Can this be done?
As a workaround, I have Catalan selected as another language (don't have the dictionary installed for it) and use that when typing on the HW keyboard.
Try z arrow from the market. It lets you use the menu key for copy, paste, and directional arrows. It also has a switcher that will swap keyboards when you rotate the screen.

Dialer and keyboard for CM7. ?

Hi,
The two things preventing me from switching over to CM 7 are dialer and keyboard. So
1. Does anyone manage to port HTC keyboard to CM7 . If no can anyone suggest me a decent T9 keyboard .?
2. Any decent dialers . Many dialers failed to clear the missed calls and many failed to recognize space in T9 mode. Meaning when the name is "test name" , the dialer expects me to press space character which is inadmissible.
Thanks,
Karthik

try Swype keyboard and go dialer
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
Go contact scrolling through contacts is very laggy when compared to stock cm7 contacts. Any other suggestions?

what?
There are quite a few keyboards that support t9 compact keyboards, smart keyboard is one of those. You can install the trial and check it out, even though I'd recommend swiftkey for anything to do with typing.
The CM 7.2 release candidate supports t9 and it works well enough for me. I don't really understand your gripe with space, but to type "test name" you'd go 837806 where the 0 means space. You could also only type the second name and choose from the drop down menu. From what I gather it will rank the numbers by popularity, so the ones you call more often will be on the top most of the time. So even without ignoring spaces (what it seems you want), it'll still most likely get the contact you need after the first 3 letters.
