Just flashed my first few ROMs last night and I'm loving it I've put a couple of different ones on and I do like Sense but I really love the Nexus One type ROMS, only problem is I just can't live without the 'Phone' Keypad type keyboard that comes with Sense.
So is there a good stable 2.2 Nexus ROM for the desire that includes a Phone Keypad keyboard ?
I've searched but it's easy to get lost in here and I just can't seem to find one (if one exists).
Defrost, presuming you mean the HTC keyboard. Settings>keyboard>HTC. Keyboard

Try Dialer One from market, it's simmilar to HTC Phone application.
You can't have native HTC widgets and applications right now.
If you searching for HTC_IME keyboard, you can find mod here that work on 2.2 stock roms.
Ok thanks for that.
It's the 'Phone' Keypad keyboard I'm after, as in the XT9 type keyboard.
EDIT: It's for text input in apps such as Messaging so Dialer one isn't suitable. HTC_IME keyboard I've tried and it just gives the qwerty type KB (unless I missed something).
htc ime mod is the same as the standard htc keyboard. Go into settings and choose the keyboard that suits you.

I really thought I'd tried that and it never had the Phone keypad keyboard option, I'll re-flash the nexus rom and have another try - was the HTC_IME Keyboard in the Market for the nexus ?

Install both clicker and the mod
Settings > Language + Keyboard > Tick IME box > Now click IME mod settings > Keyboard types > Phone keypad.
or you could just go to messages and when on keypad hold down optical enter button and select input method.
Thankyou all
All sorted now, really loving the Froyo without Sense now I have the right KB back
hey guys.. is there anyway to do the opposite?
im using a HTC sense 2.2 rom but love the default froyo keyboard. is there anyway to install it?

Not a fan of the htc keyboard with some buttons very poorly placed! Is there a way to get the default android keyboard on the desire?

hrmm no luck installing that standard keyboard.
Has anyone got that guide working on their desire?
Works perfect on my desire i only install the standard android keyboard apk and activated it on settings an finally i can choose input method android keyboard,
I type with double speed than the htc.
Hi,
I don't like the word prediction on the standard HTC keyboard. If Itype a word that's not in the dictionary, I can either change it to the word the prediction suggests, or insert + save the word I typed in.
the problem is, sometimes I DON'T want the word saved, like it's a one-time-use word. the prediction on the android keyboard was much better; tap the word once to insert, tap another time to save. (but I like HTC keyboard's symbols-handling better)
any way to get this "tap twice to save" on the HTC keyboard too?
btw does anyone have a download link to android keyboard?
edit: oh and is it possible to turn off the "buggy" text reflow in the web browser?
Tap twice to save is not possible afaik with the standard HTC keyboard. However, if you search for the HTC_IME mod by some guy called Jonas, you will find a modded version of the keyboard which you can configure somewhat into the direction you described. Root isn't required for this keyboard btw.
Good luck!

you have to install gingerbread keyboard from market and use an alternative launcher as the home screen ( search for Gingerbread Launcher on the market for example ).
have donwloadet it. but i have always the htc keyboard :/
Go to menu > settings > language & keyboard and select enable gingerbread keyboard. Then in any text input field, long press and select input method. Choose gingerbread keyboard, and you're done.

how to get chinese input in android? I am new to android.
I just downloaded google input IME from market place and installed, it is enabled in settings(languages), but keyboard did not change in messages and browser input. why?
any other apps will work?
The default way to change input method has been changed in ICS. Instead of long pressing at any text entry field, In ICS you will see a small keyboard icon in the left corner from the status bar when the keyboard shows up, then you can pull the status bar down and change the input method from there.
Google Pinyin IME is average. Some better options are sogou input and touchpal input. Sogou does not support ICS at this moment. But touchpal V5 works flawlessly.
I actually set default keybord to google pinyin, but then I cannot enable default english keyboard. what if I want to try other chinese keyboard? is there a way to enable multiple keyboard?
What if I want stock ICS keyboard to have Chinese? Any way I can do that?
I really like the stock keyboard and I don't want to use third party keyboard if at all possible
Also looking for this option....Surely there must be a way to switch to hand written chinese input via the stock ICS keyboard right ??? I realise that 3rd party apps are available but they are all terrible IMHO. Looking for something similar to how iPhone handles Chinese input....any ideas / suggestions ?
i'm using penpower, it not made for ics, as the writing pad does not fit the whole bottom half of the screen, but it works.
updated, just installed the ics version.
google voice input is the best. i use HK traditional.

touchpal is good too. they got chinese pack and handwriting pack.
go to System Setting > Language & keyboard > System Language. Then, scroll down and check PinYin option. You can choose handwriting too.
Later, when you're at a text box you will can toggle between English and Chinese using a "EN" key at left side of your spacebar.

Chinese Input on Kindle Fire
Anybody know which Chinese IME works for Kindle Fire. I root it successfully. Try to install Google PinYin, but it say not compatible with your device. The download button even not available.
Thanks
Hi,
The two things preventing me from switching over to CM 7 are dialer and keyboard. So
1. Does anyone manage to port HTC keyboard to CM7 . If no can anyone suggest me a decent T9 keyboard .?
2. Any decent dialers . Many dialers failed to clear the missed calls and many failed to recognize space in T9 mode. Meaning when the name is "test name" , the dialer expects me to press space character which is inadmissible.
Thanks,
Karthik

try Swype keyboard and go dialer
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
Go contact scrolling through contacts is very laggy when compared to stock cm7 contacts. Any other suggestions?

what?
There are quite a few keyboards that support t9 compact keyboards, smart keyboard is one of those. You can install the trial and check it out, even though I'd recommend swiftkey for anything to do with typing.
The CM 7.2 release candidate supports t9 and it works well enough for me. I don't really understand your gripe with space, but to type "test name" you'd go 837806 where the 0 means space. You could also only type the second name and choose from the drop down menu. From what I gather it will rank the numbers by popularity, so the ones you call more often will be on the top most of the time. So even without ignoring spaces (what it seems you want), it'll still most likely get the contact you need after the first 3 letters.
