Hey guys,
I've scoured the forums and was wondering if anyone has any information on unbricking a htc desire, nothing works on it, when plugged into the mains a orange led comes on and when i try and press the power button the led goes out, although when i plug the device into my computer it connects via usb as a adb device i've tried hard resets and fast boots but both dont work. is there a command i could use to kick it out of ADB mode?
anyway thanks guys

Please post more data about the phone.
Have you tried booting into hboot or fastboot ?
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html
adb shell reboot might get you out of adb.
I don't know but maybe adb logcat might help you diagnose the problem.
Perhaps this is USB brick?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
ok i've tried kicking it out of adb mode and that doesnt work it doesnt see the phone, but in device manager it says "android composite adb interface" and i dont know if its a usb brick the phone wont turn on for me to find out
hi,first post on this section . upgraded from the desire bravo, could do with some advice..
purchased a used dhd in good condition, changed housings etc,its running the latest htc 3.12.405.1 sense 3.0 android 2.3.5 .after a good search i realised i would have to downgrade to s-off etc.
my problem is i can't get into fast boot power down volume, pulled battery tried lots of times.
pc will not recognise dhd, installed drivers etc, should be able to sort that one out myself.
but i cant work out why i cant get into fastboot, the phone just restarts
thanks mark
Hi,
Download HTC Sync and install that, that contains all the required USB drivers needed.
As for getting into fastboot, have you disabled HTC "Fastboot"? Its in a setting somewhere. Possibly under Settings>Applications or Settings>Development. Make sure that is unticked.
If you take your battery out & reinsert, hold vol down then press power. That should do it for you. If not, enable USB Debugging and use adb to get into the bootloader with,
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
You will need the SDK or a thinned down adb package. Which you can grab from HERE.
You will need the USB drivers for that to work.
EDIT: Just re-read your post. If you have HTC Sync installed and you still cannot get it detected then there maybe an issue with either the handset or your computer. Check "Device Manager" when its plugged in to see if there is a conflict.
htc sinc was allready on pc from desire bravo, well just the drivers.have tried the htc fastboot uncheck earlier no good,re installed htc sinc as i thought it may be different for dhd,but its not.
pc will not pick up device, says drivers not installed.i know they are as the bravo worked fine.
i had read somewhere that unrooted dhd can be usb bricked, there is a fix by some french chap on here, but i cant do that because cant get into fastboot.
need to get into fastboot first i think,to see whats what, device could allready be s-off dont know.
strange
edit: volume button was not working correctly lol, s-on,now to sort out the drivers, downgrade and flash a nice rom
So short story, my galaxy nexus's power button doesnt work anymore. It stopped working for no reason yesterday, yet when I plug it into the charger the charging screen comese on. I want to be able to power my phone on so that I can get all the information onto my computer so that I can easily transfer stuff to my new phone (replacement gnex coming tomorrow) Is there a way I can turn on my phone without using the power button? Any help would be much appreciated.
If you've got the SDK or just ADB available, you should be able to use the command of "adb reboot" to get the device to boot up. Could be wrong.
Can someone guide me in the direction I need so I can do this adb reboot?

Download the ADB file (usually bundled with Fastboot) from any one of these guides that requires it. Or just Google for it.
Unzip all of that, use command line to get into it's directory, hook your phone up over USB, and type:
Code:
adb reboot
Again, not sure if this will work when the phone is off. If it will work, I think you had to have USB debugging turned on. Its not working for me currently on OSX. So I don't think it will. Maybe there's a different ADB command that can help you.
Its a long shot. There are probably better options.
I'd agree with adb reboot if your computer will recognize it from this mode...
Use the guide linked in my sig to set up ADB if you need.
I'm a newbie to all this, but I don't think anyone here mentioned the necessary step of downloading and installing your phone's specific ADB drivers to your computer.
So, to recap:
Download your phone's ADB drivers on to your computer and install them.
Plug your phone in.
Go to your command prompt and type 'adb reboot'.
I think. I'm new, as you can see by my post count and thanks meter.
I tried to adb reboot. Unfortunately the galaxy nexus cant be recognized when the phone is off. Disappointing but not the end of the world. Thanks for everyones help.
If adb works in download mode you could make a jig to get you there.

Hey guys,
I tried to root my DHD, but it didn't go as as smooth as I expected and at the moment my DHD won't boot anymore.
First I would like to say I read the manual carefully several times, and I searched for a answer, I found some related problems but they were so different to my problem that I couldn't find any answers in it.
First I ran the AAHK, chose for a downgrade and then I got something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822347
Except, I got stuck at the HBOOT menu, and nothing happened. When I rebooted my phone, it worked just fine, but it wasn't downgraded.
I tried to repeat this proces a couple of times, but it didn't help.
But then, suddenly, it did work to start downgrading, but in the end it gave an error:
************* Downgrade failed *************
** Either:
** GoldCtixiard/SDCard failed
** USB connections are not working 100%
************* Downgrade failed *************
After my DHD rebooted, and after the HTC screen, it showed red exclamation mark/triangle. It is still like this, and my phone won't boot, but i'm still able to get in HBOOT.
It is somewhat like this, but I know i haven't downgraded.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134318
Some help would be greatly appriciated!
P.S.
I really tried to figure it out myself first, but after searching, reading and searching, I found no good answer. If anyone finds this annoying or offensive in any way, im sorry.
I think your sdcard is corrupted as a goldcard. Try a new one.
I checked the SD card. It reads and writes fine on Mac and PC.
The biggest problem is that i can't connect my DHD (in HBOOT) to AAHK using Mac. AAHK says ''Error detecting HTC phone on USB conncetion''
I also tried factory reset in HBOOT, but it didn't help.
Anyone got an idea?

For the connection, try a Linux LiveCD; I don't know anything about Macs. For the sdcard, whether it is corrupted for use as a goldcard does not affect whether you can access the data on it.
I'm not an expert, but aren't OSX and Ubuntu quite similar, regarding the environment? Nonetheless, I am going to try the Ubuntu LiveCD tomorrow!
Is there another solution so that i'm at least able to boot the phone normally?
Thanks for the help so far.
Run a ruu from bootloader thrall get u back
So you mean I should follow these instructions?

That is the stock recovery. You have on screen instructions that you are apparently not following. That will flash a RUU but first use tacoroot to achive temp root. All that is describe in the Hack Kit session on screen. You won't be able to flash a ruu from hboot unless there's a ruu for your phone and your main version and CID match.
The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.....
At the moment i don't have any on screen instructions, because I cant connect my phone to my PC/Mac. AAHK says ''Error detecting HTC phone on USB conncetion''.
I'm trying to find a solution so that i can at least boot my phone again. I know I am new to this, but i'm trying to do my best..
So i cant connect to AAHK, what is the best way to fix this problem?

What is your main version and cid number??
Boot the phone in fastboot usb and then plug it to the pc (you will see fastboot usb in red). Then, in the pc open a cmd as admin and type:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Paste here the INFOcidnum and INFOmain data. DO NOT PASTE your IMEI here.

I did just like you said. When I connect to the pc, fastboot usb is in red. I opened cmd as admin, typed, but nothing happened.
I get ( this is translated from Dutch ) :
"fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
When I plugged it in, my pc gave a message about a device being plugged in, but nothing happened after that.
I saved everything that happened in the terminal, when I attempted to root. Would that be of any help?

Do you have adb and fastboot installed? run the hack Kit once and let it install adb and fastboot.
I downloaded the Android SDK, wich I saw includes adb and fastboot
I typed fastboot getvar all, and then the cmd screen says waiting for device...
When I tried this before ( when I hadn't downloaded the android sdk ) nothing at all happened. So something must have changed for the better..
In the AAHK i still get ''phone not plugged in'''( windows )
However, when I boot the phone ( volume down + power ), after a few seconds it says:
PD89DIAG.ZIP
Loading...
No Image!
PD89IMG.ZIP
Loading
No Image! ( Or wrong image .. )
After that it returns to the standard menu..

Hack kit won't work from fastboot. Or your driver is not correctly installed or you have issues with USB connectivity. Uninstall the driver from control panel and then re install it with the device unplugged. Once it is installed, plug, the phone and let it install properly

I can't seem to connect my phone to pc and/or mac
I even installed HTC Sync, but since the phone can't boot, it wont connect to any device using USB.
I know it isn't bricked, I still can get into HBOOT, but it just wont boot, and it won't connect using USB ( at least until now.. )
Is there a way to fix this? Will it fix anything to do a factory reset using a stock rom? ( just guessing )
Would it be helpfull to post everything that happened in the terminal while i was attempting to root? I saved it in a textfile..
Thanks for the help so far.

Yes that might be helpful. If your main was lowered and you have temp root, that will take just a while to fix it. Otherwise will not be that easy. Do you mind If I have a look at it over teamviewer?
I think my main was lowered ( or ot least changed ), but i dont think i dont have temproot. In HBOOT it still displays S-ON.
I will PM you the data concerning the rooting session.

Basically my phone has been completely messed up the past day or two and today when I went out, it got stuck in a bootloop and drained itself. I'm looking to put a stock rom on and start from scratch with Android revolution. ANYWAY I finally got it to turn on but I dont like to start any processes when the battery is likely still very low. I used the adb command
adb shell cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity

also nothing turns up. I don't think its a driver issue as up until i screwed up my phone a couple days ago, adb, fastboot etc all has been working fine and nothing has changed. Fastboot changes to Fastboot USB in the bootloader, and my pc plays the new device plugged in jingle, its just adb thats not playing ball. Any suggetions? is this just a result of having really low charge and I just need to wait? Cheers

install this and then try again
Cheers man but about 10 minutes after my post it begain recognising it!
Next question though, how do I check my battery level? adb shell cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity brings up an error 'device not found' even though adb is finding the device now with 'adb devices'
