[Q] About Latest Radio - Desire General

Hi,
I see the latest version CyanogenMod which is CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC1 for Desire GSM V7.0.0 announced today in thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11411840#post11411840) and also latest radio "32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17" for HTC Desire (GSM) in thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464).
Shoul I use this radio "32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17" for installing CyanogenMod which is CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC1 for Desire GSM V7.0.0 or an other?
Thanks...

You can use whichever radio you want as long as you follow proper flashing procedure and you pair it with a correct ril, which you have in separate thread there.

What does RIL do? I keep seeing it around on the forum but sort of read about it but non the wiser. Is it seperate to the actual radio but linked to it?

Yeah, kind of. Think of ril as drivers software and the radio image as bios for your device's radio hardware.

Thank you erklat,
I installed both of them and CM7 works great.
Thanks again...

[Q] Desire FM Radio - every station = Static.

Hi There,
I have been using DeFrost and OpenDesire for the last few months, and have therefore not been able to use the FM radio.
It worked when i tried it initially with the stock Sense rom, but nowdays (MIUI, SenseHD and Sense) all i get is static, no matter where i am (outside in good weather etc). My friend with a Nexus One can pick up the stations at the exact same location.
I have tried all the radios back untill 5.09.00.08 (currently using 5.11.05.14), but no difference.
Any ideas?
Josh.
Go back to Stock using a Shipped RUU. If it's still fubar then send it off for a warranty repair.
Make sure your HBOOT is restored if you've flashed the S-Off HBOOT but i think the stock RUU should write the stock HBOOT back on the device for you.
It's not FUBAR, just the FM radio seems to give static. I have no other issues with it whatsoever.
What does an RUU contain that 'might' fix this issue?
Josh.
Moved to Q&A. Please don't post question threads in Development.

Going back to a Stock ROM will ensure that your software is 100% compatible with the hardware. It's naturally the first thing you should do if you start having problems with your device. If you're using a cooked ROM, there's an increased chance that the problem you are experiencing is related to software rather than hardware. In your case, more so since the Desire 2.2 kernel was only recently open sourced, so the FM radio drivers have only recently been included in 2.2 cooked roms.
Hey Josh,
I'm running LeeDrOiD 2.4.1 and have the identical issue with my FM radio. Did you solve it? If so, how?
Thanks,
Keith

Bell Desire Z UPDATE RADIO

Hi.
I have an unlocked Bell Desire Z with ENG HBOOT and S-OFF.
Also, It's running CyanogenMOD 7.
My radio is: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
I would like to update the RADIO with the latest to see if I get better signal or faster speeds on my network.
I have 3 questions.
1-. G2 and EU Desire Z radios work with Bell Desire Z (3G 850/1900)?
2-. If I update to 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17 or 12.52. 60.25_26.08.04.30_M3_test_18 I , will I be able to go back to my default radio if I don't get better results?
3-. FASTBOOT is the way to flash RADIO, but what about REIL coorelation in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988557&highlight=radio
Is it something to consider?
Bye and thanks.
1. You can flash any DZ radio from any region. Some radios are region specific and may or may not reduce your signal quality.
2. You can always flash an older radio if you dont like the new one.
3. RIL matching is recommended but not truely necessary. I've done it afew times and i have not seen any good or bad from it.

Cyanogen > Flashed Radio + RIL, now no more GSM (No Service)

Hello awesome crowd,
I flashed my DHD to CyanogenMod 7.1.
One day on it, I noticed idle radios were eating serious battery, so I decided to update to the latest available from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
Flashed the radio, then installed the RIL, all seemed to run smooth, until reboot. When no GSM was available anymore.
Please help me fix the radio
Missed to say that Settings>About is reading "Baseband Version UNKNOWN".

Maybe try re-flashing your ROM (without wiping)? I'm guessing you've flashed an HM RIL which are meant for Sense ROMs.
//sent from my HTC Desire HD using Tapatalk; all errors entirely intentional.
God bless you, hopscotchjunkie for the fast response.
I did as suggested and my GSM is back. May not be brilliant on the battery but hey - still working
more complicated
I found this threat's got a similar issue as mine, unless it displays the correct baseband as what I wanted to flash to it, the. Thing is it's only able to connect to 3g network, 2g network are still indicating no service although the signal got full bars, can you guys tell me what I purpose to do??

RIL is just for sense based roms. AOSP roms do not need RIL, so changing it will mess it up. You can flash a radio but that's it.
Re: Cyanogen > Flashed Radio + RIL, now no more GSM (No Service)
Do you ever need to flash rils coming from a cm based rom to sense based? Because as I recall, sometimes the dev has said a ril is included with the rom?

But on the other hand you don't need stable but newest rom. My two year old ****ty specwise phone with archaic android 2.3.3 doesn't seem to have any issues at all.

[Q]What is the possibility of KitKat for the HTC Desire CDMA?

I was wondering there was going to be any kikat develement for the cdma desire
I've tryed myself make the cdma rom by using some of HTC Desire GSM unofficial roms. But problem is: phone is not booting after flashing. I've tried to change build prop lines to cdma settings and use original jellybean boot.img instead, but annot fix it. And can't find the thread about it!
P.S. Possibility of using GSM JB roms we have after somebody previously make ICS & JB fix for CDMA Desire. And explanation in that thread about build prop chainges for CDMA instead of GSM. Will be wiiting. If I find or make one, so will test & continue CDMA Desire KitKat thread...
