[Q] ggingerbread wimax super slow 3G help? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a question that I have tried to get answered on the actually thread for this rom, and it keeps getting ignored.
When I flash a rom like Fresh or MIUI or MikFroyo or CM6 non wimax, CM7 non wimax, my 3G speeds are acceptable(I am from an iPhone 4 where I was pulling 3.5 down and 1.5 up regularly on a non HSPA+ market.) I usually get 1.1 to 1.4 down. and .6 to .8 up. My ping is usually around 150-180.
I flash this rom, the GB+4G and instantly my 3G speeds go to crap. At first I wondered if it was the kernal I was using. So I kept the stock kernal, and got on the market and installed speedtest only, same issue I am getting maybe .3 down and .5 up if I am lucky. Ping is usually about 300+ aswell.
I don't know what is being messed with between the actual CM7 nightly builds and CM7+4g but If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have 0004 HW
CM7 RC1 currently because CM7+4G is so terribly slow for me
Savaged.Zen 0.0.5 BFS SBC kernal
PRI 1.77(also tried the latest. 1.9 or w/e the number is, same issue, if not worse, also screwed my battery life over.)

[Q] I've averaged ~2.5mb/s speeds on 4g with multiple ROMs, and then suddenly hit 8mb

Not sure how this happened, but I've had two evo's since launch date, always averaged 2.5mb/s around my house before rooting, after rooting, and after running multiple roms. I rooted it with simpleroot and used the "starting over" method to get the latest radios.
I had been running baked snack for several weeks and a couple of days ago I decided to try Froyo, so I downloaded the Deoxedized version by SteelH (ver RevE.1). After flashing it (no new radio flashes, just the froyo rom) my 4g speeds leaped to over 6mb/s on every single test, two other evo's I had here were still down in the 2.5mb/s range. It was fantastic, but tethering didn't seem to work, so I flashed the 3.7.8b netarchy kernal and that didn't help, then I wiped completely and flashed the oxedized version of froyo by netarchy, my 4g speeds then dropped back down to 2.5mb/s. It was around then that I discovered I needed the pre7 version of wifi tether, so I wiped and flashed RevE.1 again hoping to see high 4g speeds again, but they were gone, I seem to be permanently stuck back at 2.5mb/s. I checked my PRL and was at 668, updated it to 669 and that didn't help, also tried the latest wimax radio just to be safe..
I can't for the life of me figure out how to get those speeds back, any suggestions?
Try changing servers. I know on the speedtest.net app, I will get 6-8mbps on some servers and only 2-3mbps on others. This is with stock unrooted Froyo.

different servers = different response times.. your original benchmark speeds were likely due to a different server being used during testing.

Slow HSDPA Speeds on Gingerbread ROMS

Has anyone noticed this?
Everyone keeps on going on about how great CM7 is, etc.
Its great....BUT ive found that HSDPA is very slow and sometimes very unresponsive.
This is the case on Oxygen, CM7, Redux
Tried every radio and get download speeds of about 0.06 Mbps. (5-7Mbps on WiFi)
So I decided to flash stock rooted ROM (Froyo), and got speeds of 1.5Mbps (9-10Mbps on WiFi) and all is running smoothly...BUT battery life is terrible.
Can anyone confirm this or have any suggestions, I would really like to be back on gingerbread ROM as i find sense too bloated and power hungry.
Edit: I also tried to flash gingerbread roms again, and still same problems exist. once i switched back to stock ROM, I get consistently high speeds.
No problem here, Orange UK. It could be a problem with your carrier maybe and an inconsistency with custom roms. You're forgetting that tests on networks are with the official software so a change in software could do this. Flash a custom rom and ring your carrier. They can do diagnostic tests to confirm it. If they say to send it in, come up with a reason not to.

Mine is a little bit different. I think it is better with ginverbread roms (ginger villain 2.0)
Test Date: Apr 22, 2011 7:26:15 am
Connection Type: Hsdpa
Server: Bucharest
Download: 2.57 Mbps

problem hard to explain...

I have an evo equipment number 0004 rooted with one click root. on stock rom shows in status bar 3g but when I flash any custom rom will show 1x. but from what I see I am still getting 3g speeds on data. put my evo up with my wifes evo and they both load in the same amount of time. not sure what happened with this wondering how to fix this problem. any suggestions will be very appreciated.
Thank You.
Which rom are you using? Radios? PRL? Posting that will help get you an answer. You did say the stock rom was OK?
I am using evo deck version 1.2 gingerbread 2.3.4 currently. I flashed the newest radio prl version is 01115 I didnt take the ota update flashed the new stock rom from the user that posted it on here flashed all the new radios.
OK, looks like you are not the only one that has had that issue with deck's rom. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14374227
whats weird is that even on sense roms I get the same issue besides evo deck like mikG or other sense roms. even before the updated radios I had the same issue. maybe its not anything to worry about just seems odd
Download speedtest and run some tests. That will clue you in to if it's a real issue or not. It could be just a reporting bug in the roms or it could be a borked 3g radio.
If you reflash to a stock rom now, does the 3g notification work right? I know you said that it did work on the stock rom, but was it recent?
ok I will try that I dont get signal at home but before I leave the house I will flash stock rom back I used stock rom last week and it said 3g in the status bar. what speeds should I be looking for on a speed test? should I use the speed test app in the market?
Speed test is in the market.
Download speeds should be in the 1300kbps to 1500kbps
Just to get you some real world numbers, my 3g speeds in Santa Clara were 900kbps to 1331kbps on 3g and 2600kbps to 3400kbps on 4g

3g 1x

My 3g has not been running much. It has been switching to 1x. What should the new updates be now radio updates? I live in KS and I think the issue is I need to update radios

Any ideas

mine was doing the alot too but i flashed the newest radios as of 07/04/2011 and it stopped going into 1x alot
I started having this problem recently as well, I live in the Boston area. I believe I have the latest radios, 2.15.00.05.02. I had been running the stock rooted rom, which only shows a 3G icon regardless of actual connection speed. I noticed that when I flashed the Synergy Sense 3.0 ROM that my phone was sitting in 1x most of the time. I tried flashing Deck's ASOP 1.2.1 and was seeing the same speed issues. I ran a Speed Test on each of the ROMs and was getting less than 100kbps. I'm currently back on the stock rooted ROM while I try to debug the speed issues.
I was just about to post a thread on this as well because it is frustrating me a lot. when i first got the phone i was full bars every where and now , especially after rooting , I have terrible signal and most times cant load web pages or download from market unless im on wifi
I have 2.15.00.09.01 radio is that the newest

An update on my situation. My 3G magically started working again last night. I think my 3G issue may have been related to the SMS/data outage that hit the Sprint network in the past 48 hours.
What data outage did they have

All i was aware of was an sms - mms outage like he said but im still experiencing these issues. It now seems to only be certain webpages. I can't make any google searches and some websites will only load once in a great while.
Yeah I'm still having 1x issues. It sucks. So what is the new radio or a d l link for it would be great

Check my sig for radio downloads. I am currently on the newest radios, and everything works perfectly for me.
Flash a rooted Sense ROM, based on the Evo (this disqualifies MikG, Director's Cut, Synergy and other Sense 2.1 ROMs, because those are based on the Evo Shift (I've had issues with Shift-based ROMs not reactivating)
Go into EPST (Dial ##3282#, Choose edit mode), enter your MSL code (download and use MSL Reader from the Market to get it), Data Profile, hit the menu button and choose restore. Just sit there, your phone will reboot and everything will go back to default. This should fix your 3G issue.
Then, just wipe everything and flash your favorite ROM!

[Q] CM7, 3g Slowness?

Did some searching, but couldnt find anything....it feels like 3g speeds on CM7 are much slower than Sense based roms...everything else is obviously snappier, but loading pages, refreshing rss feeds, etc, etc seem much faster than CM7. I noticed this today when I was on Nils Business 3.0 for a couple hours of testing, then went back to CM7 nightly...
Thoughts??
I had the same problem.
I had the same problem. For a while I thought that I had been throttled. I tested speeds side by side with my friend's Inc 2, and I was much slower. Flashing my stock Android fixed the problem, but I missed gingerbread. I tried OMGB with no luck. I am now running the debloated leaked OTA and I have flashed the leaked radio. Problem solved. The new ROM is super smooth and really snappy. I hit 2.5 Mbps at work where before I had been continually dropping to 1x speeds. If you flash the new radio, take all recommended precautions. I suspect that you do not want to turn your phone into a paper weight.
i did flash the new radio(07.07), but have not seen any improvement....i might have to go back to a stripped sense rom...kinda sucks...or maybe back to miui.
*228,,2
I forgot to mention that I called *228,,2 to update my roaming profile. It did something because it rebooted the phone.
