I have purchased a new larger MIcroSD card and want to copy everything over to the new card.
What is involved in doing this please?
Need to get all data, apps, files etc from a 4gb card to a 32gb card.
Phone is rooted desire running Leedroid
I am very newbie so nothing too techy please
Just copy the files from your old SD card to your PC, then put in the new one and copy the files to the new SD card

Tried that a few times and despite the system saying it has copied all the files over, the folders are all empty and the shortcuts have gone from the phone.
i.e. the medi file has no media and the DCIM file has no photos.
Copy and paste doesn't seem to work in this instance,

Weird. I recently transferred my data from my 2gb micro SD to a 8gb one by copy and paste. And nothing has changed on the device. Did you copy everything (including hidden files if any)?

My 16GB SD card has arrived, and I want to swap it for the 4GB one in the phone. Notice the phone and apps have created data on the old card - if I swap it out, will these be automatically recreated? Should I copy the old contents and folder structure to new, or is this giong to fail as the hardware ID of the card is different?
Cheers
They will be recreated but you'll lose any data stored there. It should work if you just copy the contents from your old card, I really doubt they are doing hardware ID checks.
Just copy all the files from the old card to the new one.
I upgraded my SD card too. I copied all the files from my old card to my new card and that worked flawlessly.
I noticed no side effects except the massive increase in space
Same as above. copied 4gb contents to computer, put in the 16gb card, copied the original stuff over and did a reset for good measure. all fine with no ill effects

got an 8gb sd card lying around and just wanted to know how i would go about replacing the 4gb one which has all the files and folders loaded on it?
A simple copy and paste of the files to the new card. Hook it up to the pc and copy them across.

I just bought an upgrade to my old 8gb Sandisk card. I bought a 16gb RiData Class 6 microSD because my old card cannot handle anymore storage.
Here's the deal, how do you transfer the files safely from the old card to the new one and run it smoothly just like the old one? Do you just simply copy all the files of the old card and then just paste it to the new one? or any program to use or other methods in doing this?
I have read a thread about this that he just copied all his/her old files and then paste it to the root of the new card but he/she cannot make it work well. I would like to have a word from everyone for safely transferring my files. thanks.
Unless you have stuff in ext3/3/4, just a copy and paste should do it. After my N1 was stolen, I copied a backup of the SD onto a new card, threw android onto my TyTN2, and after installing the APKs, all of the programs found the data they should have.
how about the files that i transfered in the card using app2sd and my backup in titanium backup? Will it work using copy paste method?
whats on yopur old card have you done any formating? if your just useing it as storage you should be able to copy them over easy
Yeah I only use it for storage and nothing else.

If it's just storage, then drag and drop should be fine. If there's any special formatting, then you might have to google a program that makes an image of the SD card, and transfer thaqt image to the new card. Bit more of a pain, but it gets the job done.
thank you guys. Been new to android and doing some stuff.
I just got a new memory card. Can I just copy the contents of the original MicroSD card into the new one? Or are there hidden files that I also need to copy over?
Just copy them. You'll be fine

It seems that whenever I move all of my files on my SD card to a new one (I started with 8G, when to 16G and now moving to 32G), that the association of my contacts to their specific ringtone on the SD card goes away and I have to re-assign all of my ringtones and also my alert sounds for various programs.
Is there a way to copy the card and not have this happen?
Thanks...
When you switch cards just copy ALL content from one card to the other and it should bring all of that over.
Just open the card on your computer highlight everything copy it to a safe place then highlight everything and copy it over to the new card.
Goodluck
You could also try Titanium Backup. I use it all the time & it restores everything the way I backed it up.

none of them keep the association of ringtones. I had to reassign them after copying all new files to new card.
