got an 8gb sd card lying around and just wanted to know how i would go about replacing the 4gb one which has all the files and folders loaded on it?
A simple copy and paste of the files to the new card. Hook it up to the pc and copy them across.

The obvious way is the best. Copy the entire contents of the old card to a folder on your pc then install the new card and copy it back from you pc to the new card. Just do a copy and paste if you wish. I did it and it worked fine.
yes this is the way to do it...i did it multiple times but i think if you have apps2sd you should format it first the same way, i don't use it so i dunno for sure
Thanks.. I was hoping it would be a simple copy & paste
if u had a memory card reader and adapter for the other card, that could be attached to your pc/laptop as another drive then you could just copy from the existing drive to the other
Hey guys, about to purchase a 32GB SD card and was wondering what the process was. Do I connect both the phone and the SD card to my laptop and just pretty much drag the whole "Removable Disk" from my phone to the new SD card and just swap them? Or is there a more complicated process?
If ur old SD card is not partitioned then just make sure u can view hidden files and copy full contents straight over to the new card.

Greetings fmedina2,
That means that insure that what ever file manager your using (no one knows what OS your computer has), find the settings that allow you to decide what is shown within each directory - owner, permissions, date/time created, date/time modified, etc...
Just make sure that the "show hidden/system files" option is shown - extensions too, if it's available.
This will insure that you will not overlook any files, when you attempt to copy them over to your new sdcard.

I have purchased a new larger MIcroSD card and want to copy everything over to the new card.
What is involved in doing this please?

Phone is rooted desire running Leedroid
I am very newbie so nothing too techy please
Just copy the files from your old SD card to your PC, then put in the new one and copy the files to the new SD card

Tried that a few times and despite the system saying it has copied all the files over, the folders are all empty and the shortcuts have gone from the phone.
i.e. the medi file has no media and the DCIM file has no photos.
Copy and paste doesn't seem to work in this instance,

Weird. I recently transferred my data from my 2gb micro SD to a 8gb one by copy and paste. And nothing has changed on the device. Did you copy everything (including hidden files if any)?

I just bought an upgrade to my old 8gb Sandisk card. I bought a 16gb RiData Class 6 microSD because my old card cannot handle anymore storage.
Here's the deal, how do you transfer the files safely from the old card to the new one and run it smoothly just like the old one? Do you just simply copy all the files of the old card and then just paste it to the new one? or any program to use or other methods in doing this?
I have read a thread about this that he just copied all his/her old files and then paste it to the root of the new card but he/she cannot make it work well. I would like to have a word from everyone for safely transferring my files. thanks.
Unless you have stuff in ext3/3/4, just a copy and paste should do it. After my N1 was stolen, I copied a backup of the SD onto a new card, threw android onto my TyTN2, and after installing the APKs, all of the programs found the data they should have.
how about the files that i transfered in the card using app2sd and my backup in titanium backup? Will it work using copy paste method?
whats on yopur old card have you done any formating? if your just useing it as storage you should be able to copy them over easy
Yeah I only use it for storage and nothing else.

If it's just storage, then drag and drop should be fine. If there's any special formatting, then you might have to google a program that makes an image of the SD card, and transfer thaqt image to the new card. Bit more of a pain, but it gets the job done.
thank you guys. Been new to android and doing some stuff.
I have the AT&T Galaxy S3 with a Sandisk 64GB micro SD card mounted. I can see the card
using file explorers on the phone. But I would like to transfer files onto it from my Mac. The
Android File Transfer app does not seem to see the external card. Could anyone recommend
an application that I can install on my Mac which would allow me to transfer files between
my computer and the external SD card in my phone? I am completely new to Android
coming from iOS. Thanks.

if you look at the Android File transfer program there should be two buttons on the top of the window. Phone and card
