So I have pictures on my Incredible Internal Storage and SD Card Storage. I go into the Gallery and have the view options set up so its in Grid View instead of Filmstrip View, but I'm having problems since day 1. The Grid View thumbnails are messed up, like a thumbnail for a picture would be messed up either it being a thumbnail for a different picture or having the thumbnail be a mash-up of two different ones. Yes upon viewing the picture its normal, but the thumbnail is misleading and I have OCD. I tried clearing the cache and resetting my phone to factory, but nothing works. No I don't have a rooted Incredible, it's stock.

Hi - I tried out the 3d gallery but found it rather sluggish, so i'm sticking with the normal htc gallery - problem is that this is quite slow too!
e.g. in grid mode when you scroll you get a load of grey boxes which take a while to fill in with respective thumbnails. even if you scroll down then back up it loses the thumbnails at the top and does this...
anyone else seeing this? the iphone doesn't have this issue in grid mode.
Surely a 1ghz processor should be able to display a thumbnail grid with ease?
i'm using leedroid 1.6 with original sd card (maybe too slow?)
This happens if I take a bunch of new pictures then go to the gallery. It takes a second to render the thumbnails of the new pictures. Once they are though, they usually load pretty fast. It just takes a little bit of time to read the information from the SD card. That's all.
Still shouldnt happen at all - why cant it cache thumbnails on the phone itself?
When you scroll the app drawer for example you dont have to wait for icons to load - it should be the same.
Also if you use the people widget & have a picture for every contact it doesnt struggle when you scroll through them....
I just tried floating image - it doesnt have this issue either - there must be a gridview gallery that works properly?

Well that's the thing, imagine your phone, already with limited space mind, now having to have a cached thumbnail of every picture and video on your SD card. If the space on the phone was limited before it will be even more so.

So how does the people's widget do it? Or the app drawer?
Even the resource intensive floating image app doesn't lag when showing thumbnails.
Surely the sdcard isnt that slow is it? Even if you did do phone based caching - you could probably get 1000 per 10mb...

Surely you don't expect relatively static elements like widgets and the app drawer to behave the same as something that's constantly changing like the pictures on your SD card? What happens when you swap out your card? Should the cached photos remain or be deleted? Then when you put said card back? Re-create all the images again on the fly?
You have to be a little more sensible and think these things through. Simplistic "I wish X happened" is just naive.
You'd be able to check for changes on load - I'm not saying it has to be loading instantly but when it does it should be smooth like any other app. The people app also uses the SD card - if you remove it the images disappear - if that can show smooth image grid then so should the gallery. I don't think that it naive at all. I think even the 3d gallery does this when it eventually loads.

I am dealing with a slow gallery too, after it created ALL thumbnails gallery was still slow to me, so I connected Desire to usb, copied ALL thumbnails to my HDD, optimized all those pics with FastStone and the result?
Gallery deleted all those thumbnails(even though they were exactly same name and content except they were smaller) and cached all over again
Glad to see it isn't just me! Not sure why it is recreating the thumbnails - maybe a reason for it being slow - at any rate it once it has loaded it shouldnt revert back to grey boxes when you scroll up/down...
Hello,
Some times, every photo and video material disappearing from my phone. Gallery shows nothing. But all photoes and videos are still on SD card. The main point, that I can't reach them. Some widgets, like gallery widget, can show me the pictures, but when I pres on the photo to zoom it - black screen appears and that is it. How can I solve this problem?
see if there is a nomedia file in your photos folder if there one then delete it and your photos will appear again
if it doesn't work then try another app to see the pictures just to know if the problem from the stock gallery app
Purchased a new Sandisk 32GB SD card, when taking a picture and going to preview in gallery the picture is only half the size of other pictures stored on my phone directly or my prior SD card. When I select the picture it goes to full screen but only in Preview is when its small.
Is there any setting I can change to view this pictures at normal size?

Sometimes when taking pictures is changed from a square to widescreen picture the thumbnail/preview becomes smaller because the photo is different shape.. I don't know if that makes sense or if there is even such option on phone camera.
Whenever I take a new picture with the Camera, it shows on the bottom right hand corner immediately. However, when I then click on the photo, it brings me to the photo app and the new picture does not show. If I switch in photos to device folders, the new pictures show. I've tried setting the camera to store the pictures on both internal and external storage with no luck. If immediately after I take the picture, I open up QuickPic the new picture is there. I am running the latest viper rom, with latest firmware etc.
Anyone else experience this or have some thoughts?

yes and i believe the camera app is going to need an update to fix this. It has something to do with a recent update to google photos.
So with portrait mode on the Pixel 2 it saves 2 images for every pic taken in portrait mode. Is there a way to stop that and only have it save the bokeh picture. I don't need the other picture taking up space.
while viewing the picture in the photos app. you'll see 2 mini thumbnails at the bottom center of the picture. one is your orig, one has the blurred background.
swipe the thumbnails to the right to view the original picture, and then press the 3 vertical dots at the top right > delete. you'll be prompted to delete the current photo or both photos. this option only deletes the picture(s) from your device and leaves it on the cloud.
if you want to delete it from the cloud and from the device then select the trash can icon on the bottom right, and it will ask you if you want to delete the current photo or both.
as for stopping it completely, i dont think that is an option, not that i have seen anyway
The third button from the right let's to save pick which photo to save or show as the main photo in the gallery.
I think OP was looking for a way to not have to manually delete every non portrait version.
As someone who takes a **** ton (100+ average) of portrait photos of dogs at my work each day, I see why OP is asking.
There's no such thing as photos taking up space on pixels... that's sort of the point
Portrait photos actually take up less space than regular ones. They seem to average about 2 MB for blurred and 2 MB for unblurred. So that's 4 MB total. Regular photos are ranging 4-7 MBs for me.
i am facing this weird issue where only the normal pic is getting saved not the one with the bokeh effect. i tried many versions of g cam but no result.. any solution so that i can save the potrait pic?
If you have Tasker or are willing to purchase it, you can do a shell command to automate this for you. This is exactly what I have done.
Every time I open my file manager app, a shell command will find the regular image and delete it.
