Hello all,
Out of curiosity I wanted to know what accent theme color you all prefer for your device, and how often you switch (if you switch it at all) your accent theme color. Me, personally, I enjoy having the green accent theme color enabled all the time. I've switched it a few times, but I find myself reverting back to the green accent theme color for some reason. I dislike the brown accent theme color the most.
WP7 doesn't really have a color I would stay with. But I have mostly used red. Right now I'm using the ordinary blue on black. I certainly hope MS will add a boat load of color and theme options in an update. Would love to see silver tiles on white, black tiles on lite charcoal, white tiles on black and want some of those yellow tiles.
I use black on black or black on white. On my favorite teams match days I switch to navy blue on black.
I switch many times to use all colors, but mostly I use light blue, lime and green, cause Omnia7 screen simple supports more pixels with those colors (text more readable). I wish MS would add more colors to every phone. I'm wondering why some phone models/manufacturers has different colors as my phone bought in Finland. Weren't WP7 supposed to be same in every manufacturer?

They are the same. The only way currently to get other colors is by the Chevron unlocker.

Black on black must look slick. The words just float, correct? Do you have a picture?
I use brown on black
I've been staying mostly with Orange on Dark. But my other standard ones are: Blue/Dark, Green/Dark, Green or Brown/Light.
And put me down as well for better colours at some point. I find right now, 80% of them are very feminine (both magenta and pink?? Come on...)

I'd love to see a picture of black on black for those chevron guys who have it. Must be sick.

The problem with Black on Black is the accent text.
The tiles look great, but any accent text becomes unreadable.
I'd post a pic, but I don't know how to do a screen capture on my Focus.
Here was a poll I made earlier regarding themes.

I typically go with one of my modified greens or blues (there a little bit darker). I also have a grayish-blue that I switch to. Black on black isn't as good as it sounds. It is novel, but not really that great after a few minutes.

Yeah, I had thought about that. A shame because an all black tile look would be awesome on the Focus (and great for an AMOLED phone's battery life). Wonder if MS / Chevron will find a way to split text accent color and tile accent color.

to those who wanted to see black on black i attached a picture, though its blurry. also, i dont have a problem with black on black or black on white's accent text because so far as i can tell it only messes up three things: missed calls (can't see the detail or time), contact details on profile, and text message timestamps. I'm perfectly fine giving up those things for a slick looking Start screen and if i do need to see those things i can simply workaround it or change the accent, look at it and change the accent back. black on black is my daily theme and im damn happy with it

This is a theme derived from mannyb's idea for a "black" edition of his Glossy Minimalism theme here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478183
The initial concept is all his idea, I'm just doing some of the legwork since he's a busy fellow .
The idea is that we'd love to see more dark based themes, but the only (notification bar) clock colors that we know we can do are black and red (If that's wrong, someone let me know,) so we're basing this theme on a red and black theme.
Here is the concept image:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Let me know what you think of the concept or what you'd like to see.
EDIT:
Current Status:
- Changed gradient at top to be better
- Made notifications white (Weatherbug is its own deal)
- Redid the battery meter to be more accurate
- Created network (EDGE, 3G, G) icons. They look nice I think.
What I don't like (Of what's actually been touched):
- The meters hardly fade, I will need to increase the potency of that gradient
- I need to know how to arrange icons on the right to my preference. Does anyone know if this is possible? The vibrate symbol makes it look goofy atm.
As always, feedback is much appreciated.
A note: I will be on vacation in NYC until next Thursday (4-2) so expect no progress on this theme in the mean time. We'll consider it an Alpha field test
Also, can anyone point me in the right direction for a red clock xml edit?
Wow great job I love the notification idea.. expand on this, this may turn out really nice!
You should do the icons in the same color as the clock, we are lacking different looks color wise on here! Great start man
I love this idea! I would prefer a medium dark blue rather than red...
But, I LOVE the transparent clock and the way your doing up the notification bar is awesome!

I agree, I'd love to see a dark blue, but as far as I know, the only colors the notification clock can be are black and red. nobody has found out how to make it any color we want yet. :-/
I would like to see a little bit different clock so that it doesn't look exactly like glossy minimalism. Maybe one that isnt clear so that the red doesnt darken up against a black background.
But I do agree that we need one that is black with red so we can take advantage of the red clock font.
Clock
I think you should leave the clock black, or offer a version with a black clock. IMO, the red just takes away from the conformity of the theme.
Otherwise, great job!
P.S. ADP 1.1h? Please? Pretty Please?

I agree. I think the clock will end up being black.
When the theme is ready for beta testing I will package it into ADP1.1 RC9 and RC33 (JF verisons, obv). I will be doing nightly updates with what I have so far. As it stands, I'm a little bit uneasy with .9.pngs and modifying the .xmls, but I plan on tackling those over the weekend.
Im likin it the way it is actually. At first I thought the red might be too wierd but I think its quickly growing on me, its very slick looking. Ill be interested to see what you do with icons. IMO tehyd look better in black grey contrasts without any red in there. Maybe glossy lookings too?.
EDIT: OH it might be cool to have icons look like little round buttons. Like have icons on a round black background and shiny. Hmmm...
EDIT AGAIN: Wow... my internet musta been running real slow cuz i def didnt see the screenshot of the icons you have up there. Haha yaaaa I like em : )
DUDE YOU ROCK... This has been one of my favorite themes of all time and now its going to be in Black, can't wait...
About the RED FONT??? Where are the edits for changing that, I'm building a theme that would so Rock if I had the font in red...

That's a good question. I haven't gotten to that point yet. I actually still don't know how to do any xml edits :-/ It might be best to ask someone who has done it.
I love what you did with the notification bar..
Are you still working on this?
Yes, I am still working on it. I'm working on some notification icons that are actually visible and then learning how to do XML edits. If anyone does know how to do XML edits, specifically changing the clock to red, could they let me know?
Latest update:
I seem to have managed to turn my theme into a brick. Every time I flash it, I get stuck on the "G1" screen. I made some changes to an image, packed it up and flashed it, which gave me the error, so when I went back and reverted the changes then repacked it, I still got the error. I'm really confused at this point, so bear with me while I try to figure it out. Thanks a ton to mannyb for making a rock solid glossyminimalism update that I can always revert to.
Status, though:
I have all notification icons done (aside from some weird ones like airplane mode) and am working on XML edits and menus in the rest of the phone.
Have you made sure to compress all your edited PNG's as much as possible, using a program such as PNGOUTWin for example? When the combined increases in file size (a kB here and there, it adds up) hits critical mass the phone will loop/brick during boot. PNGOUTWin will cut the file size of most small PNG's created in Photoxhop in half, or down to a third. Sometimes down to a tenth even.

That would have been my problem. I added a rather large popup_dark_full.9.png along with replacements for all the EDGE, 3G and G network data indicators. I have been watching my framework-res.apk slowly increase in size, and was wondering if that was a bad thing. Turns out it is Thanks.

Dang, it really is a great program. The trial version only lets you do 20 images at a time, but that's not too bad. I just shrunk my entire framework-res by a considerable amount. Awesome.

PNGGauntlet is a free alternative that works VERY well in my opinion. I actually found it from a graphic artist who does mobile game artworks and he swears by it. It works out really well. Go for it if you don't want to pay the $15.
First off, I'd like to thank daveid for making the first theme template, saving us the trouble of re-flashing the entire ROM for any theme.
Next I want to give credit to MOONSSPOON, I based some of my icons from his prior themes, however the ones here will differ once completed.
Lastly, I want to thank Stericson for suppling the community with the amazing xml and java edits that he's accomplished. If there is anyone here in this community that deserves thanks above all else, its him.
So without further due, here is a sneak peak at my upcoming theme:
Forever
***Update 5-6-2009***
Alright well I have a busy week with school and vacation this weekend, so my progress is coming a bit slow. I'm not very fond of the changes in the connection type and battery that I made, so expect changes there. I've taken my first stab at the app drawer, but it's a bit too crisp for my tastes, I plan to roughen it up a bit. I've made some more changes to the backgrounds of the status drawer and app drawer, but I'll post those when I'm more satisfied with them.

I still have a lot of work to do, I only just started this project, so I am looking for any feedback or suggestions, positive or negative. So please leave your comments and help hasten its progress.
Looks pretty cool so far.
My only suggestion is to keep the icons a dark with shades of green to match everything..
I like the battery meter.
Looking good. You inspired me to make my own custom boot screen, put a little thought into it and realized it could be done very simply. Not sure if it is the method you took, but this is what I did. I opened the original files, for the logo-shine I converted the layer to a smart object (all work done in Photoshop), and applied a color overlay (with some nice blending options to it) to turn it blue hue'd.
I then opened the logo-mask file, and colored over the entire thing in 0 0 0 black. Created my text using the font of my choice, in blue. And used the background eraser (preserving the black) to erase the text. Leaving a boot screen that looks like this when it is loading:
Now.. back to your theme. I would think some brownish icons would compliment the green overall theme nicely. Kinda give it those earth tones.

First off, thank you! I've been pondering over this all about finding a completive color for the theme and the whites and greys just didn't fit right, and the browns just eluded me. So booyah! I've got a perspective on where to go from here.
As for the boot screen (in PS CS4), I created a new document with the dimensions of the android-logo-mask.png, kept its background transparent. I created a new layer of a black box (rgb, 0 0 0) covering the visible dimenions. Then created the text how I wanted on a new layer. Next, focused on the first black box, then ctrl - click on the contents of the text layer, selecting only the text contents on your black box, then just deleting the selection and presto, black box with your text cut out, preserving your transparent background.
Saved it as a png. Open it with fireworks, export it as PNG 8 with alpha transparency (to compress its size).
And on the android-logo-shine.png is just a scrolling marque that will go end to end across the back of android-logo-mask.png. I noticed yours does have as much of a "shine" to it anymore. Idk if that was your goal or not but yeah, thats how I did mine .

I agree w/ daveid, brown would go really well with it so far, making it into a more earth tone theme.
Iwould take it a bit farther and encompass the silver elements of that status bar into a silver-green theme, or even silver-green with a highlights of brown. (I can't help but think of elves when I picture this in my head...weird) The reason I think green and silver would be better main colours is the theme looks very natural and equal elements of green and brown might "pop" it too much. Green/Silver (white w/ that shade of black) would fit, but deffinetly has to have brown highlights somewhere.
I'm sure it's on your list, but I would change the pull-up menu tab from stock. It conflicts with your theme, which is looking really great.
Great start!
Love the colors! Not so sure about the clock but that's a personal preference thing. White clock looks awesome with it. Can't wait to see the release.
Like it, cant wait to see the finished product!
LOVE THE GREEN!!! I would suggest skinning the bottom pull menu though
Come on now, you all didn't expect me to leave the app drawer default, did you?
I've only just begun, so when an idea pops in my head I take care of it. I'm not handling anything in a specific order, however the icons will probably be my last addition (however I'll get up a few prototypes for screenshot-sake and help add to the feel of the theme).
Anyways I've added an update along with new screenshots, check it out.
It's coming together nicely. The browns really do compliment the greens and give it more depth. Keep it coming.
I like it! I like the shades of green and brown you used. The suggestion of a complimenting silver is a good one. Also, consider an earthy dark/muted blue for some highlights (suggestive of water). Then you would have the three primary earth tones - primarily using the green and brown with some small amount of silver/blue as highlights.
Just my .02c - Looking forward to trying it out on Dudes' build!

As of right now my plans are only supporting JF's ADP1.5 build. That may change down the road, but wouldn't come until I release a final for JF's build.
Oh...the silver is gone. The brown highlights look nice, but the removal of the silver in the task bar seems to have taken something away from the overall theme rather than added something in.

i dont wanna see this theme die...
I've never been a big fan of the yellow XDA theme, and I've never seen a way to change it, so I grabbed the CSS from the site and put it into Stylish, a Firefox CSS tweak extension, and modified it so the yellow tones are changed to different colors, see the full list below. It also narrows the page to 'only' 1200 pixels, in case you're using it on a huge monitor and don't want the page being that wide. It's easy to edit at the top of the code if you don't like that change.
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else would want this sort of thing. I'm NO CSS ninja, I just clumsily hacked on it. The XDA icons are still yellow/brown, some of the links in the Dark Grey probably need tweaking.
Thanks to sickbox the bug in my CSS edits which make the top bar with User CP/FAQ etc disappear when you hover over the links is fixed!
The Stylish code is here, you'll need Firefox+Stylish Extension, Greasemonkey, or Opera to use it.

For 2015 I've only modified areas with wasted space and changed the font from Orange to Blue. It's still in beta a bit, I still have some clean up I'd like to do but I think it might be useful to some people.
Hope it's useful to some folks. I'm using it full time.
Good idea, I'd personally go with more subdued colors. I'd recommend http://kuler.adobe.com to find a complementary combination of blues.

Awesome job, I really like the blue and grey!
I'm also in for the blue and grey! great work!!
I use the blue theme, that works great =D !
And it change the monotony of xda colors...
It's the XDA Powwerrrr !
A basic place with extra men.
thanks man loving the dark grey
I use the blue theme, it really sets XDA apart from the others See ?

Wow! The blue theme really does look good! I modified mine to fit the 1920x1080p display of my laptop.
I actually don't mind the disappearing text on the top bar because now I know when I'm hovering over a link.
im liking the blue theme too just a few images off color but im sure you will figure that out soon. im using it with the new vbulletin plugin for firefox which has a menu bar on the bottom so the disappearing links at the top dont bother me either. thanks for doing this, its nice to have a change of scenery every now and then.
How to get this working in Opera (hope nobody sent it yet):
Open the code in post #1, copy the all source code except the mozilla stuff (@namespace and @-moz-document)
Now, open eg notepad, put there all the text and save it as eg C:\xda.css
Now in Opera, open xda forums -> right click -> Edit local preferences -> Display (Graphics??) and there will be select for User CSS. Select the C:\xda.css -> click OK -> reload page and voila
If you're talking about the themes...
There goes mine, black-gray-whatever, it isn't finished (I must get look the same index and listing pages), but the base is fine and doesn't hurt eyes in night

yeah here is mine, its black, blue, grey still have some tweaking to do but if anybody wants to try it...

Jeez, I can't believe I am only now seeing this for the first time today -- January 12, 2010 ! -- 7 months later. God, if only i'd known before. What a welcome sight!
Looks like maybe I should be bumping this thread every so often! Glad people are enjoying it. I know I immediately install UserStyles and the Blue theme when I jump on a computer which doesn't have it, that Yellow just kills me.

Love it! Installed it when you posted it on the 3VO Thread. Only issue is that Now when I go 'hover' over a new-message in a Threaded conversation, it doesn't automatically mark it read, like it used to. Any way to get that working too?
Also, The images have a greyish background which doesn't fully go (at least on my phone) with the background there sometimes (with highlighting and such), so what I did was I copied out the Images and gave them transparent backgrounds. Looks better now
Thanks for the Contribution
Thanks for the contribution.
This will work with other roms? 6.1 for example? or it's just for 3VO?
Thanks,

EDIT!!! here's the one i grabbed from nrg's rom. it doesn't look exactly like it does on his rom, but close enough. sorry about the quality, i was in a rush. got plans with the wife...
here's another one, i just edit the cab so that it'd work on install. someone else made this.
EDIT #2!!! i edit the iframe, so it would look more iphoneish. i'm using this on all my phone's.

I think that those are the 4 image files.
I used the 'Magic Wand' selection tool on 50% threshold for the Orange bubbles, that worked fine. Then I used it on 22 / 23% threshold for the Grey bubbles, and that worked pretty well.
Does anyone know how to reduce the height of compose box ? I want it to display 2 line instead of 3 line as default

thanx man i must have been blind or not looking right lol
So what would green be in the numbers? Also do you think you could make one thats green and black bubbles with black text in the green like your previous one and black bubbles with green text? Or maybe briefly explain how I can edit it myself. I've found the text numbering I just dont know which numbers would be green.
PS: How would you revert back to default theme? I installed the current one packaged with the sms fix. Can I get back to default without breaking my sms again?

to go back to the regular 3VO sms look just install sms revert to original.cab
i think u can only have one color of txt or ask dermann about two different txt colors he knows more but i can make green n black bubbles wit what ever color txt you want
So I tried that green text, didnt do anything but thats ok cause I was just wondering about the double color but I guess it makes sense that you cant seperate which would be what color. Thanks for the revert though I'll keep it handy in case I get tired of the the green grey theme.

you can separate the color of the incoming and outgoing texts , it took me an hour and a half to do. but i did it.
as soon as i narrow down which string changed what i'll let everyone know.
ok here it is everyone. how to change the font color of incoming and outgoing texts.
you'll want to add these to your iframe, these lines are already in their but needed again to change the color.
incoming text.
color is blue
Code:
.in+div.read {
color: #00f !important;
}
outgoing text, which is you.
color is black
Code:
.out+div.read {
color: #000 !important;
}
unread in and out text, i joined these ones together cause i don't care what color the unread texts are.
color is yellow
Code:
.in+div.unread, .out+div.unread {
color: #ff0 !important;
font-weight:bold;
}
adding this in may unalign the theme your using. but some tweaking will get it back.
So I've been trying to edit these and failing pretty badly so I think I'm going to be forced to sit back and let you guys mess with it lol. Just a suggestion though to match the dash's color and lighting a black/blue theme would probably be pretty sweet.
Nice, I'll test in my ROM and give you the report..
here's my iframe that i changed the colors with.
LG's UI is not very good and looks outdated, and I can't stand it (even though I love my G6 for other reasons).
Stock android is well designed and many including me love it.
Can someone who is skilled in theming please try and make a stock android theme?
I would absolutely buy it and I think many others would.

Technically the blue style pixel is stock...
I don't agree, the blue on the pixel UI is different from stock.

Google phones are stock
Yes, but vanilla android has teal as the account colour. The blue is a specific addition for the pixel phones.
Anyway it doesn't matter; as the G6 has white notifications with teal as accent colour (and this can't be changed).
Themes with blue accents look horribly inconsistent ss you end up with mix of teal and blue. Not to mention black themes which also look bad because you still get white notifications.
For a clean consistent UI you need a vanilla android theme, white with teal, there is no way around that.

Blue looks much better imo.
The white looks like stock android o..
At least the thenes look miles better than the stock lg theme lol. Im guessing lg doesn't allow some elements to be changed
Whether blue looks better than teal is a matter of taste.
But as I explained the LG UI already has accents in teal that cannot be changed with theming.
Mixing that up with blue is a bad idea from a design perspective. Just use teal as the accent colour everywhere and you will get a consistent UI experience.

I wish there was a theme that looked exactly like the stock LG UI but with a aosp dark gray background while keeping everything else the same, accent color, setting icons and so on.
