[Q] Not Typical Battery Issue - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the past month or so I have noticed my battery performance getting worse. I figured it was an app or apps draining the battery. In the past couple weeks I have tried a variety of different roms and kernels. I have ran them with out reinstalling my apps and I can still see 1% point go down every couple seconds. I had been using a seido battery, not the extended. I swapped that battery for the stock battery, which I have never really used. I am still having the same problem. Could this be a hardware issue? Or maybe the radio?

Take a look at Settings > About Phone > Battery
1) See if by any chance up time and awake time are close. They should be wide apart or something is keeping the phone active.
2) Then look at Battery use and see what is using the battery.
It may be an app or function of the phone doing it.
If not it may be the phone itself having circuit problems.

[Q] Battery suddenly terrible?

When the battery life of a phone like this goes bad is it a sudden thing? Or does it gradually hold less charge?
I've been using this phone for the best part of 16months with excellent battery life lasting a week with little use. Now all of a sudden it dies EVERY day when I've charged it the night before.
It doesn't even make it through a day at work if I don't even use it at all. No texting, phoning email or anything and it still dies fast.
It can be sat in my pocket all day and then I come to look at it at 6pm and it's off because the battery ran out again
This normal when the batteries start getting a bit old? I thought it would be more gradual, literally 3 days ago it went like this over night.
Anyone else have this problem?
check power settings to see if your auto backlight/power off settings haven't magically been disabled.
Had the exact same problem. Have followed all suggestions available-
making sure wif-fi/bluetooth off
Applications off
internet optimised
battery left to drain, phone reset and new battery fully charged before turnign back on
and several other procedures. 3 new batterys tried including 1 200o battery.
No luck with anything. i get about 6 hours if i dont keep toppoing up. Have to carry a spare battery everywhere.
Has anyone any solutions!!!!????????????
If you are having the issue even with a brand new battery I'm going to guess something's gone wrong with your device.

Not necessarily.
2OP - did you do a hard reset ? If not, do that, do not load any applications, do not change any settings other than the ActiveSync "fake server" trick (which assume you did already), and see if you still have a problem.

For 16months, i think you made the best of your battery life, i think it would be best to replace it as after 400 charge cycles, the battery deteriorates
One other thing I've noticed is that when the battery does run out, the clock has to be re-setup every time. I never had to do this when my phone ran out before. I'm wondering if this is indicative of a probelm other than just a shabby battery.
Thanks,
G
My tilt 2 had the USB problem (where it (seemingly) charges fine, but it cannot sync).
I noticed that the battery that could go for 2 days with very light use, would not go through more than 1/2 a day even when I don't even touch the phone.
I woud try to plug the phone into a computer via a USB cable and see if the computer recognizes the device.
My phone was under warranty, so when the replacement came, I put in the "dead" battery (according to my defective tilt2), and it listed 70% on the replacement phone.
Anyway, it does sound like you are having the same problem, because you have tried new batteries. So if you try syncing with USB and see if you have the same problem.
All, I seem to be having the same issue with a Sprint TP2. I had the first one replaced thinking it was the device. The replacement arrived and had the same issue. I took it into one of there stores and had the battery replaced. No dice. The battery drains 10% of it's power every 20 minutes, that is with nothing running and me not messing with it. I tried different ROM's thinking that would help. I installed NRG Dinik, GrooveROM, NEO_cht 2018, and Ana CHT. The issue still remains. Yesterday I came across a thread suggesting that I drain the battery completely, the recharge for 5 minutes, powering on and then clearing the storage(Hard reset while the phone is on). Phone charge seemed a little stable in the morning for the first hour, then returned to it's annoying 10% drain every 20 minutes. Any other suggestions?
Left out this folowing information, thought it might be relevant. Also had my charger replaced. Another thing I noticed with this behavior is that the contacts duplicate themselves every so often...
Go to Settings > Sound & Display. Check that the following are turned off:
Quiet ring on pickup
Pocket Mode
I played around with these for awhile and found that either of them, when turned on, will kill the battery in just a few hours.
Also, if you have a Hotmail account set up on it, make sure that it is not set to synchronize "as items arrive." Although you can get away with this setting for Exchange, Hotmail will kill the battery as fast as the above two settings.
3G Search Causes Battery Degradation
Hi,
I wonder if this might help? Maybe I am too late on this. But I recently was having trouble with the very same sudden poor battery issue after using my HTC Rhodium for more than a year with excellent battery life. At the same time I noticed that I was having trouble staying on my cell phone network, also suddenly. This had not been a problem before. Reading the forums in another area discussing signal issues someone pointed to the existence of "CMBandSwitch.exe" which lives in the Windows folder on a standard ROM. When you run this you can switch from "Auto" mode where the phone polls all available network bands and instead have the phone work only on the GSM band. You can also specify your frequency if you wish. When I did this I solved both problems at the same time. My phone once again was able to hold the network just fine and my battery life returned to normal.
I am in Europe on an extended assignment and I can only think that the local network is undergoing some changes that has their 3G signal weak which was causing my phone to work harder at staying attached and therefore creating both poor connectivity and poor battery life.
I hope this will help you.

Battery life on synergy getting worse.

when i first installed the latest release i had amazing battery life. Now im at 70% an hour an a half after i unplug it and it prpbably wobt last me another 5 hours. I dont think i have any apps draining the battery. Ive wiped battery stats. What's going on?

If you used 30% in just over an hour, either you used it too much, or there is some app/process draining the battery. Download Spare Parts, go to Partial Wake Usage in the Battery History. See if anything stands out. If not, re-wipe everything and re-flash the rom. I'm running the same rom, and can go at least 3 days without charging.
battery usage history force closes spare parts...
Same here, it force closes when I look tap history. However I stopped using the changing photos lockscreen and my battery life seems to be improving.
World peace with no regard for human life.
standard wallpaper, and wallpaper lockscreen. I re-flashed the rom.
I had the same problem with an extended battery, only it would charge to 80%, then it power itself down and the battery would die. I took it to Sprint, they were awesome, the tech said that the modified scripting from the 3.0 Sense Roms is causing this problem on some phones, especially with extended batteries, rather flash my phone to stock, he gave me a differnt battery, wiped dalvik, said he did acouple things to it, and advised me to run a different ROM and see if that helps, preferrably a hybrid that the battery scripts have not been modified. I think alot of it was somewhat bs, but my phone holds a charge now, I am currently looking for a different rom...
It started out draining real fast, then it wouldnt charge after a few days

what happened to my battery?

So a few days ago I installed Nova Launcher, got root, changed my dpi to 170, applied the screen off SMS fix, and installed accuweather. I feel like battery life has decreased considerably. I usually don't leave my phone plugged in overnight, but did yesterday. Today, I am down to 81% with 22m on screen time -- at this rate, I would get an hour and a half on a full charge, where I've gotten 3 days and 5 hours of on screen time before when the phone was 100% stock. I had the phone in airplane mode for most of the day, but the battery graph still shows a sharper than usual decline. I just uninstalled accuweather to see if that would help, and will do a complete drain this charge cycle. Anyone else seen something similar to this?
I installed nova launcher prime and my battery life is still amazing. Although I'm not rooted, I wouldn't think that root is the issue. Have you installed an app that has gone rogue and is constantly running? For my part devices that was the problem most of the time. Check your battery stays to see if you can identify which app is exhausting your battery and if you can't, my suggestion is to hard reset to get better results.
One of the great things about the note is the battery life. It would suck to have this advantage become a disadvantage. Good luck

Search for better battery stats here on Xda. You can get the paid app for free (though I recommend purchasing it).
It may help you identify the app, or service eating cycles, or draining your battery.
Did you by chance recently enable Google now?
Or do you have maps reporting/updating your location with GpS radio enabled?

Yes, I experienced something very similar, as did at least one other user in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1977476
My battery suddenly went from being awesome to draining about 1% every 5-10 minutes with no apparent cause, even while sleeping. I wiped and re-flashed, which did not seem to help, then tried an odin re-flash, with still questionable results immediately thereafter. The next day, it seemed to be spontaneously resolved - though, I'm not convinced my battery life is quite as good as some people are reporting.
Interestingly, better battery stats did not show any suspect activity.
I know that's not a solution, but you are definitely not alone. There is something weird going on here. That other user theorized it might be a calibration issue. Seems as plausible to me as anything else. If you are feeling patient, perhaps let it be for a day or two and see if it does indeed spontaneously resolve for you. That would be a helpful data point. If you can't bring yourself to do that, at least keep us updated on what you do and the results.

[Q] Bizarre intermittent battery issues

I know the GNex doesn't have the best reputation with its battery, but in the past couple of weeks, my phone's battery has been behaving very very strangely, and the problem is very intermittent.
Basically, I am seeing some odd battery drain issues, but there are a number of reported sources from looking at the battery information on the phone. Some behaviors that I have experienced:
1. Screen using 43% of battery with 22 minutes of screen on time.
2. Screen using battery when off.
3. Battery discharging down to almost 0 within an hour after unplugging it from being charged to full - no single app / resource reporting huge usage numbers, just a complete drop on the battery chart.
Other things I have observed; if I catch the system in a state where the battery is draining faster than it should, if I reboot, the system will often recover to normal usage.
I am currently using Paranoid Android 3.15 (I know they have updates - but they also broke their own PIE color scheme, apparently intentionally so, so I am sticking with the last known good version). I am using the stock kernel, and have not tried flashing a new one - if anybody has recommendations, I am all ears.
It is also possible that since this is the original stock battery that the battery itself may be going bad, but my observation about the problem tending to go away after a reboot makes me think the issue is not in the battery itself. I guess the ultimate question is, is there anything that can be done here? Or am I stuck with this until I replace the device in 6 months?

Battery Issue

I have been having problems with the battery on my phone.
I have had this problem for a few weeks now, have tried many battery calibration apps, have cleared battery stats in recovery.
My problem is that my phone is turning off when it gets to around 30%.
I have tried various charging techniques that other uses have posted but that was from a different phone.
I am guessing that my battery is probably just old.
If i was to buy another battery then what type (make model) am i looking for.
Thanks in advance
Mark
