Hello,
I am so noob that i can't post to related thread in development forum. I just got my first android phone last friday and i'm now running CM7 nightly #34.
On the thread:

It is said:
If you already have installed an earlyer version of this ROM and you have working Google-Apps on your Phone:
Just flash the update.zip
So i am running CM7 nightly #34, where is this update.zip i need when i want to update it?
Is it the zip file of the mod. If so, update procedure is just the same as the install procedure?
Thanks

It basically means that if you have working Gapps, then just flash the ROM zip (update.zip/nightly.zip) without wiping, as some people had issues where they lost Gapps after flashing the latest nightly.
You can still wipe Cache but leave the system partition and just install any updates normally in CWM as you previously did doing the install. The update.zip will just be the next nightly and links will be posted/updated in the relevant thread.
Regards.
Hello,
I haven't moved any applications to SD. Does that mean if i update to a newer CM7 version, i lose all apps that i installed?
- If so, is there any way to avoid losing these apps?
- Would titanium backup work after update to restore apps back?
Thanks...
I'm running CM7 #34 and i want to update to RC1.
Would i lose apps that i installed and settings?
Nope i didnt lose anything ... works like acharm...

Im not sure if I'm not doing something right but, after I downloaded CM7 #6 in Rom Manager, I select google apps as well as backup and wipe data but when it reboots, it hasnt changed and i get a notification that the new update is available. What should I do?
Forget about rom manager, download it directly, install it to your sd card and flash from recovery. I just flashed it and works fine.
Just thought I would ask, you do have CWM recovery 3.0.0.X installed right?
Keep in mind now that your running cwm 3.0+, rom manager is useless....doesn't work and don't recommend using it until its workable.

yeah i do. i have CM7 #5 right now and per your suggestion I am about to flash the #6 rom now after downloading it.

Don't think you need to wipe data when flashing nightlies... Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?
i just booted into CWM and flashed the rom. thanks for the help
So thanks to CWMR 3.005 a lot of old zips don't work.
old_market.zip won't install.
New Market V2.2.11 won't install.
Vending_2_2_11.apk installs but FC's.
gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip installs and FC's.
Why are you flashing different versions of the market? Why didn't you just flash the official Gapps from the CM7 nightly or CM7 RC1 threads?
Also, do you have the latest CWM3.0.0.5? The newest version that supports 2.2 and 2.3 that is flashed from ROM manager, not the one downloaded and installed manually. I've been flashing the stock launcher (.zip) for several builds now with this CWM Recovery.
Edit: looks like the Gapps page is down for a few. There are people posting dropbox links to it though.

Because the official Gapps installs but the market FC's, as said above.

As said above, yes.
What's CM7 build 1/2? You might try flashing a full rom not half of one
Just kidding, though I still don't what you're talking about in reference to build 1/2.
Anyway, do a wipe and reflash it twice in recovery to make sure everything sticks. Then just use the market to load gapps. I think the market is past 2.2.11 now but I'll check for you and post the .apk if you want. Lastly, I'd run a fix permissions if for some reason it still fc's on you, then reboot.

Well I just wanted to double check. There was the pre-stable release of CWM 3.0.0.5 that only supported 2.3 and maybe this was the one you had causing issues.
I'd just try to reflash with a clean Gapps install and see what you can do about it. Also try simply wiping your market cache with something like Titanium Backup if you have tried flashing around all these different markets.
my current rom is cm-10.1-20130312-NIGHTLY on my HTC one X and once i try to update to any of the new released updates starting cm-10.1-20130313-NIGHTLY the device download the update and install it in the recovery mode .. but once its done and reboot its stuck on the HTC screen
PS : i made a recovery for my cm-10.1-20130312-NIGHTLY and when i restore it then it works again as cm-10.1-20130312-NIGHTLY
- my CWM is updated

there is no stable mode updates for the Cm 10.1x on HTC one x .. could the update of Hboot fix this problem and can be able to use the new nightly versions !
same problem here, but i don't have any backup from my old rom. One question, is there any way to go back to any rom for me now? or my phone is dead...?

as long as there is no back up then you need to install cm-10.1-20130315-NIGHTLY if you have it already .. but for sure you data which not saved or no online backup for it will be lost

Hi
they mentioned the issue in the official thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29098167&postcount=1
you need to flash the "vendor installer for endeavoru cm-10.1" after flashing the ROM/update
wipe data / format system (if coming from different ROM)
flash the rom or the update
flash the vendor installed
flash gapps (if not installed)
you can download the vendor installer from here : http://d-h.st/487
I advice you to check on the official thread every once in a while, they update it with a lot of useful info

if you have an old ROM zip file on your SD, you can just flash it back without any loss of data or settings (in theory)
but if you already flashed a new nightly , just flash the Vendor installer and you're good to go
1st download the vendor installer , found in the official post : Here
now push it to your SD. you can use adb push command or just mound your SD using CWM > mount and storage > mount USB storage
and just copy the file as usual, and flash it over the current ROM and you should be fine
guys, thank you i've got my phone up and working thank to yous. Next time i'll read stuff more carefully, thanks again!

I have currently cm-10.1-20130314-NIGHTLY-endeavoru (had to install also that vendor file as well). If I flash newer nightly build (e.g. 20130318) do I have to reconfigure and reinstall all apps after update?
No

Not at all, you can update easily using CM updater, or the regular flashing ... you just need to flash the vendor after every update
and the the data/apps/settings will not be touched as long as you don't wipe
don't forget to read the change-logs, if you see kernel related changes, you need to flash the boot.img from the update
otherwise you don't have to

Hi there,
It's recommended to do a factory reset after installing new version of OS. For CM-11 the base version is KitKat (Android 4.4.x).
To make things little easier, I took a backup of all installed apps (/system/app/ and /data/app folder). I didn't use any app for that matter, but just copied them on my internal SD card under Download folder. This folder won't be cleared during factory reset.
Make sure you have CWM based recovery 6.0.4.4 installed. (Initially I was working with older version of recovery (6.0.3.3) and because cause of that CM-11 could not be installed properly.) I have PhilZ's recovery working pretty good on my E980. You can find it here.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
The official CM-11 build will work on any E-98x phone. But when you install CWM based recovery, make sure you install one which is meant for your phone only.
Me and my son rooted our S3's a while ago. We have Cm 10 nightly "Oct 28/12" and want to update to Cm 11 nightly but I think we have to do something different as to a normal rom update? I think I read we have to update the kernal or something first but didn't understand it. We have the newest Clockworkmod 6.0.4.3. If someone could point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Alright first of all, which was the last official AT&T software update you did? If your at least updated to 4.1.2, you'll be good. As for the update, since it is a different update, a clean flash is necessary. First, you have two options, can get the latest CM 11 nightlife from
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2att
OR, there's an excellent ROM by a developer named PwnCakes193, called Quantum which is based on CM 11, but based on community feedback and comparing it to the official CM 11 bug thread, Quantum is a lot more stable. It doesn't get updated daily but at least every 2-4 days (no promises). If you decide to check it out, make sure to read the thread twice and read a few of the latest comments here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390147
For both these, you'll need the latest GApps. I recommend Paranoid Android GApps from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Don't let the name trick you, you can use these GApps for any 4.4.x ROM (I recommend the Modular package).
Once you have a ROM and GApps downloaded and on your phone, the flashing process will be like this for CWM:
Wipe data/factory reset>wipe cache
>format /system>format /cache> wipe dalvik cache. Flash ROM, flash GApps, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. After this, you should be good as gold, so just setup and download your apps and that's it!

Thanks a lot for your help. I have 4.1.2 on my phone .Do I not have to update the kernel ? As I think awhile ago I tried updating to 4.2 and it wouldn't go and someone said I needed to update the kernel,,but that was awhile ago maybe things have changed.I 'll try your method and let you know how it goes. thanks
ok I wiped everything they said to then tried to install Quantum 4.3 and says installation aborted "status 7" I remember this from last time and I never went any further because someone said I had to update the kernel?
its not the Kernel, I guess my bootloader isn't in the assert command of the roms approved bootloaders, so it won't load it. so I guess I have to update my bootloader,,,hmmm

Are you trying to install 4.3 or Quantum v3?, Because Quantum v3 is 4.4.2 KitKat. Do you have a Canadian Galaxy S3? There might be something related to this in the ROM thread. Double check to make sure your recovery is the latest. If I had to guess, its probably be the boot loader, just be careful and read twice before you do anything.

It was the bootloader. Updated it with Clockworkmod to the newest Canadian one"DLK4" then the Quantum v3 went on smooth . thanks for the help

Sure thing, glad I could help. If you feel brave, PwnCakes just posted v3.15 about 5 minutes ago, which is the latest 4.4.2. If you decide to, you'll need a clean flash and latest GApps.

Yup, all versions have Google Now working. Have you made sure that there's no updates pending for it in the Play Store? Make sure that after every update, even a dirty flash, that you install GApps. If you forget to, the search bar will bring up a Gingerbread looking search app, and a lot of the Google apps and services will not work. For a "dirty" flash (no apps or data is lost), my process goes like this: wipe cache>wipe dalvik cache> format /system (no data will be lost)> Install ROM> Install GApps> wipe cache and dalvik. You should only use this if you are on the ROM already, not if it is a completly new ROM. Hope this helps!
