[Q] How to downgrade CWM? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey dudes,
problem: I've flashed the DHD with CWM 3.0.1 for testing the CM7 rom.
The problem is i can't restore my backups of the Android Revolution HD rom.
So, i've tried to downgrade from 3.0.1 to 2.x.x, but it doesn't work.
It does not work with Rom manager. Same for manually downgrade via ADB.
How can i restore or install the old CWM to install the Revolution rom again?
Thanks for help and best regards

Uninstall ROM manager, install it again and then get the old version from all recoveries or so?

I just downgrade it from fastboot. First get CWM 2.5.1.3, rename it to recovery.img and put it in the same folder where fastboot.exe is.
Then boot your phone to fastboot and from cmd (start->cmd) go to the folder where fastboot is and type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If it says that it can't find two .dll files you can find them in the tools folder of androidsdk.

Ok. 2.5.1.3 is on, but if I enter the Recovery, there are some error msg's:
Code:
E: Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
.../LOG
Can't open CACHE:recovery/LOG
Back menu button disabled.
The screen turns off when I press the power button.

Go to "All clockwork recoveries" option in Rom manager and flash an older version

No dude, i did not. I just didn't response because i couldn't delete the Rom manager. It's a systemapp in cm7, and, how ever, it's undeletable.

I have succesfully downgraded to CWM 2.5.1.3 , thanks to your guide.
I had to downgrade CWM 3.X.X.X as I was trying to flash a zip which will allow my DHD to show and connect also AD-HOC Wireless networks. The CWM 3.x.x.x did not allow me to flash it due to some Google restrictions.
Now that I have succesfully flashed this AD HOC zip file, Can I upgrade my Rom to Gingerbread and also keep CWM 2.5.1.3
In other words, if I upgrade to Gingerbread and keep the CWM 2.5.1.3 at the same time, can I still flash this AD HOC zip ? I mean can I use Gingerbread and CWM 2.5.1.3 at the same time to flash some things?

My second question is :
Now that I have 2.5.1.3 recovery.img on my SD CARD......
Is there a way to add this 2.5.1.3 into the ALL CLOCKWORK RECOVERIES section on the Rom Manager ......
It`s not there , is there a way to manually show it there and just flash back to 2.5.1.3 with a click of a button rather than using the abd and fastboot everytime.

You need CWM 3.X for GB ROMs as 2.x cannot read ext3 partitions which are the norm for gingerbread.

Replace framework-res.apk > Bootloop. Help!

Hi all!
I using root explorer to replace framework-res.apk
But now, my HTC Desire Z have a bootloop. I try to factory reset, wipe cache date, using update.zip but not not effective.
When I up rom in recovery (3e), the system show: E:signature verification failed
Help me fix the bootloop. Thanks!
well first off I hope you made a nandroid backup of your ROM before you did this. If so, just pull the battery, boot straight into recovery, and restore that nandroid backup.
Where did you get this framework-res.apk? did you edit it yourself? if so, what did you change? If you or someone else has changed anything decently major, the .apk needs to be re-signed. Looks like it wasn't.

Where did the framework-res.apk you are using to replace the stock on come from?
Or is the issue now just trying to get your phone booting again?

Like I said in my first post that you didn't respond to, did you make a nandroid backup? If you didn't, you should at least have the stock framework-res.apk set aside to go back to? If you don't, and you can boot directly into recovery, then you're going to have to re-flash a fresh ROM in order to break the issues you caused with your current problem.
So if your phone is still bootlooping and you don't have a backup to go to, then follow the normal steps to flash a new ROM from recovery (this will probably be your only option if you don't have a backup):
1) download your ROM of choice
2) enter recovery, mount as USB storage
3) place ROM.zip on root of your SD card
4) install zip from SDcard > select ROM.zip
5) reboot
you'll probably lose your data, unless you flash the exact same ROM as you had before, there may be a chance that it won't.
Here's a lesson to be learned! Backup before messing with major things, and save the old framework-res.apk. And don't just willy-nilly flash random Uot Kitchen framework-res.apk's without precautions. It looks like you just got a framework-res.apk that wasn't signed properly and it messed your ROM up.

How can you not have cwm, there isn't another custom recovery for the DZ that I'm aware of.
Hang on, do you still have the stock recovery? OK so I'm going to assume you are actually rooted. Do you nave the eng hboot installed?

You can't, you will need to install cwm.
Download rom manager, then select install clockworkmod recovery. Then boot your phone in to recovery and preform a wipe then flash custom rom.
Do you have s-off?

Ohh yeah, I forgot that. OK you will need to install recovery using fastboot. But to do that you will need to install the eng hboot. To do that please follow the instructions here http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html. But when you get to point 10 you will need to pull your battery out. And delete the PC10IMG.zip of your sd card.
Then reboot back in to bootloader and if all has gone well we will know have the DZ eng hboot installed.
The top line should now say vision eng s-off
You will then need to execute fastboot commands to install cwm. If you do not have fastboot installed download fastboot.exe from here http://developer.htc.com/adp.html and place in your platform-tools folder. You will is need the cwm recovery.img which you can get from here http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img and rename to recovery.img and place in your platform-tools folder
Open a cmd window and point it towards your platform-tools folder. Then we want to check fastboot is working, so make sure your phone is in bootloader and type fastboot devices and it should bring up your device serial number. Assuming that works type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
All being well the recovery will flash then you will be able to boot in to recovery and flash a rom.
If you have any problems or are unsure about anything head over to the #G2ROOT irc http://webchat.freenode.net/

[Q] clockworkmod recovery

hello,
last night i tried to flash an update from cm7 nightly and after trying it, decided to return to the previous build i was using. i did a nan restore and encountered an error "md5 mismatch". i asked for 3xeno help as to what could have possibly caused the error and suggested some possible causes and solution to my problem which I am still trying to figure out till now. but in the meantime i have just decided to reflash the nightly i was using and reinstalled all the apps i was using.
i read quite a few articles and threads here and if i understood it right there are some cwm version that encounter nandroid restore problems. i am currently using cwm 3.0.0.6 and i was wondering if there is a cwm version that i can use which is more stable and will not create any problems if i would make nan restores in the future.
thanks.
Switch to 5.0.2.0. No issues with Nandroid Backups / Restores. I have done tons of restores with this version.

The two zips are different ways of installing it.
Download PC49IMG.zip only and place on SD card root, go into hboot and press volume up when it asks you to update

Manage to flash it as per 3xeno guide and suggestions. Im now on cwm 5.0.2.0. Thought i had it figured out at first but it was only temporary recovery. Flashed PC4IMG zip and now everything is good.

I get lots of MD5SUM errors with this version of CWM, 4 out of 5 nands fail on me. I think my card may be to blame but i really dont trust my backups now. I'm sketchy about any mods I do now because i cant be sure if my backups will restore.
If you are ready to use fastboot, you can use it to push all the IMG files directly to your Wildfire without bothering about MD5 checksums. (I had loads of MD5 errors on versions 4.x, but not a single one yet, as I said before, on 5.0.2.0)

Will probably try to learn that method over the weekend. I tried a nandroid backup and restore with cwm 5.0.2.0 and it went well so far. Thank you for the suggestion sir.
If my previous backups including my stock rom gets really messed up, I guess Im just gonna stick with cm7. I'm loving it anyway.
Quoting myself from a previous post:
2) Use Fastboot
- Download this attachment and extract it to any folder (eg: C:\fastboot)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1308537074
- Download CWM IMG Image for Wildfire (Buzz) from here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/rec...0.2.0-buzz.img
- Place that IMG file along with the 4 files from the attachment in the same folder you created
- Now, turn off your Wildfire, connect to PC, and turn on in HBoot
- Navigate to Fastboot and Select it
- Open a Command Prompt Window (Start > Run > cmd)
- Type the following one by one and press Enter (It is assumed you created the folder in C Drive and have named it fastboot)
- cd\
- cd fastboot
- fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.img
- This should produce 2 lines of code - SENDING RECOVERY and WRITING RECOVERY. If both states OK at the end, you should have CWM installed successfully after this.

The above Quote was for installing a Recovery Image like CWM. Fastboot commands use the following syntax:
fastboot flash <partition name> <name of IMG file to be flashed>
So, the other command names will change according to the files from your previous Nandroid Backup. Examples:
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash data data.img
... and so on
will give this a try sir. thanks

For all who trying to flash DHD in 2.3.5

Please note that you are doing all tasks in your own risk.
Preparation:
Download a clockwork recovery img file, for me I had 5.0.2.0 ace:
download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-ace.imgSince I am new in this field, you may need to do a research by yourself to sure this is the img for your device.
The link having box of versions:
download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries
A new ROM, you can look in the dev. page (or you already having a ROM wanna flash)
*You may need to unzip the ROM and zip it in "storage only" mode.
*Put your re-zipped ROM file into memory card (Should be in the root directory). You can see there is a boot.img in ROM, copy it out of ROM and you will need it later.
Backup all your stuffs like SMS, contact book etc... (I had failed in SMS and all my free apps)
Step:
Go HTC dev. to unlock your boot loader, if you have the problem about cmd error (like ERROR command dont exists) in getting token, you should look step 1 really carefully because you forgot to flash the RUU (Wonder it is a popular problem...)
*At here HTC dev. will ask you to create a folder to hold adb.exe, move your boot.img into it.
After unlock your boot loader, you should see the words ***unlocked*** in HBoot screen, so then go to fastboot and still using the cmd in prev. step, hits:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.imgYes your recovery img should put together with adb.exe in the same folder
So then now you have an unlocked bootloader and a clockwork recovery in your unroot device Backup your current ROM with CW recovery AGAIN (just for some accidents if they occur...)
In CW Recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, in advanced page, wipe Dalvik cache and wipe battery stats.
*This will erase your data and CANNOT undo.
Select "intall zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard", find your zipped ROM file and say Yes.
Congratulations you had successed to flash a ROM BUT if you are the first time flashing ROM on your device (and this is what supposed to be lol). Your device will freeze at the boot screen (which is white background with green words "HTC"). So then here is the last step...
Go to bootloader and enter fastboot. Remeber the boot.img? Type in:
fastboot flash boot boot.imgin cmd.
So now you can enjoy your new ROM (Most of ROMs will take a minute to boot in the first time)
These stuffs took me lot of days to research... It may have another better, easy way. But I would appreciate if there are some thanks for me

did you wipe & flash the kernel via fastboot if not do it and you are done
If you did wipe & flashed the boot.img try reflashing by using the following steps
1) Boot your device in recovery mode. You should now see the recovery menu
2) Use the volume up/down keys to select "apply update from ADB," then press power to select it
3) open the folder where your boot.img and adb are storred, then press SHIFT button and the right-click mouse button and choose “Open command prompt here”
typ adb sideload <filename>.zip (for example: adb sideload update.zip)
The zip package will begin installing. When it's done, select "reboot system now."

It looks so simply but did you take a look to your rom zip? open with a zip explorer like winzip in /META-INF/com/google/android and here you must find this file

well, what version of twrp do you use? try first with oficcial 3.0.2.0, bootloader unlocked? check usb debbugging and allow oem unlock in developer options, sometimes neccessary mount system or enable MTP in recovery

Probably a bad flashing and you are needing repari partitions, for that I recommend start from beginning again:
- flash miui rom for fastboot (unpack zip rom in your adb folder for better performance, connect device to pc into mode fastboot, be sure device be recogniced typing; fastboot devices then right click mouse and execute like admin over "flash all".
- then to install rom you can flash again twrp via fastboot typing any place adb folder and placing file recovery.img this folder; fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- then go to recovery with hardware keys and flash supersu v.2.79

two things; I assume that trying to flash from extSD, if yes with file explorer of recovery copy to internal memory, maybe an issue to reading extSD, also you can to install a newer version of recovery 3.0.3.2 works sometimes for me and last here you have a reading page about install fastboot on mac (nightmare) http://www.stechguide.com/setup-adb-and-fastboot-on-mac-easy-step-by-step-guide/
