Quick NANdroid backup question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to find a way to use my clockwork backups while I'm in amon-ra recovery. I have my stock rooted rom backup as a clockwork backup and I need to be able to use it in amon just in case **** hits the fan. Thanks in advance!

You can't. Only way to restore those clockwork backups is to flash clockwork.

Crap. I have a stable backup on amon so I can use that, reflash clockwork, and go back to stock rooted if I need to I guess. Thanks dude!

you can use unrevoked it will be easiest takes about 10 mins just use this link for step by step instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
unrevoked3 painless root and flash will give your full root and nand unlock plus it will flash clockwork all at the same time. if you don't like clockwork after thats done just download ROM manager and download amon ra recovery and flash it through rom manager and you'll be set to flash custom roms

+1. This should be a really easy way to root if you aren't familiar with rooting.
+2 unrevoked is by far the easiest method to do so.
I made a video showing how to do it from beginning to end. The program literally does all the work, you just need to push a few buttons here and there when it asks you to do so.

Really?? i had no idea.
+3 on unrevoked. it's super simple. once you are rooted, however, the real fun begins
Ive been going back and forth on using unrevoked, but I kinda want to do it the long way so I can learn how to do it...

Thanks guys. One more thing. What suggestions do you guys have after rooting
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
First thing you should do is download ROM Manager and backup your stock ROM. Read up on the different ROMs available and let the fun begin!
Now when you say "stock ROM", is that the stock ROM thats rooted, or is it the rooted version that u r backing up?

You can't perform a full nand backup (that'd what nandroid does) until you are rooted, so what he is saying is to root using unrevoked, and then immediately do a nandroid backup. That way you will always have a completely "stock" backup (that has root) in case your future rom flashing endeavors should leave your phone in an unusable state. This initial backup is also handy should you ever need to unroot.

he means as soons as you root backup, to witch i concur but i recommend flashing amon ra recovery from rom manager first since amon backs up your keys for wimax and radio's

Need help.

Hello guys. I got a question. I rooted my phone a while ago and since I flashed to Myn's RL5 rom (which is the best rom I used anyway), I can't seem to do a nandroid backup and can't boot into recovery. Just wondering if I'm missing something or should I try to unroot and get another evo?
Thanks in advance.

Use rom manager off the market and flash one of the recoveries then try to boot into recovery and see what happens
Sent from my unrEVOked using xda app
what root method did you use? Did you flash a recovery during root?
At first, I was using the Clockwork mod recovery and that didn't work. But when I used the RA recovery everything worked out fine. Thank s

Amon RA is the best...backs up WiMax, which is more than RSA keys. Highly recommend to any rooted EVO

nosympathy wanted to know what recovery you're using: Clockwork or Amon Ra?
Reflash your recovery.

So your problem is only that you can't get into recovery? If it still boots up, then just turn it on and use ROM manager to flash clockwork recovery back on the phone. You should be good to go after that.

OMGB ROM Clockwork Version

I have a rooted EVO running the AVA-FROYOZ3 ROM. I has to has Clockwork Version 2.5.0.7 to install this Rom because it wouldn't work with the newer version. I am going to install the OMGB Stock Gingerbread ROM. Do I have to update to clockwork 3.0.0.5 before I flash the Rom?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I would recommend the latest cw 3.0 or amon ra 2.3. Preferably amon ra 2.3 imo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
The bootloader method would be the easiest to flash amon ra but if you do kiss rom manager good bye (if you use it).
So if I want clockwork 3.0 I can just flash it through ROM Manager and it won't mess up my current Rom?

Correct, and it shouldn't break or mess up anything.

I doubt it, however and as has already been suggested, you really should consider switching to amon-RA v2.3. I don't know of a rom yet that can't be flashed with it and when you run into trouble, more than likely, you will need amon-RA to get you out of it. At least that has been my experience.

Yea I switched to Amon-RA and all went fine. Thanks guys. Quick question. Can I restore the nandroid backups I made through Clockwork with Amon -RA?

Negative lol. Any you made with cw can't be used with amon ra and vice versa.

You can install ROM Manager and flash CWM. You can also look around for the PC36IMG file for CWM.

Use the flash_image xxxxxx.img
where xxxx is the name. Though its easier to flash it by PC36IMG file in the bootloader.
Go to the RA thread in dev n dl the pc36img version and use bootloader. 2 easy

I use amon. Cwm doesn't wipe cache and dalvik properly and can cause intermittent stability issues with the Rom even days later after flashing..
