you can use unrevoked it will be easiest takes about 10 mins just use this link for step by step instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
unrevoked3 painless root and flash will give your full root and nand unlock plus it will flash clockwork all at the same time. if you don't like clockwork after thats done just download ROM manager and download amon ra recovery and flash it through rom manager and you'll be set to flash custom roms

+1. This should be a really easy way to root if you aren't familiar with rooting.
+2 unrevoked is by far the easiest method to do so.
I made a video showing how to do it from beginning to end. The program literally does all the work, you just need to push a few buttons here and there when it asks you to do so.

Really?? i had no idea.
+3 on unrevoked. it's super simple. once you are rooted, however, the real fun begins
Ive been going back and forth on using unrevoked, but I kinda want to do it the long way so I can learn how to do it...

Thanks guys. One more thing. What suggestions do you guys have after rooting
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
First thing you should do is download ROM Manager and backup your stock ROM. Read up on the different ROMs available and let the fun begin!
Now when you say "stock ROM", is that the stock ROM thats rooted, or is it the rooted version that u r backing up?

You can't perform a full nand backup (that'd what nandroid does) until you are rooted, so what he is saying is to root using unrevoked, and then immediately do a nandroid backup. That way you will always have a completely "stock" backup (that has root) in case your future rom flashing endeavors should leave your phone in an unusable state. This initial backup is also handy should you ever need to unroot.

he means as soons as you root backup, to witch i concur but i recommend flashing amon ra recovery from rom manager first since amon backs up your keys for wimax and radio's

So i uninstalled CM6, and installed the stock 1.47. RUU I do not have root access now because i want to install the stock 2.2 Froyo. Is it okay that i still have AR as my recovery installed for my recovery? Also, if i was to nandroid to restore CM6 would it go back to being rooted?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If you flash the 2.2 that just came out, you're in no mans land since you'll be flashing a unrooted froyo.
In other words, you will lose root which also means that you not be able to nandroid back..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Having AR as your recovery image should be "okay" although it may get overwritten by the update, or at least locked out by a new HBOOT. If that happens, you wouldn't be able to access your nandroid backup anyway.
So, broken record time: Don't update if you don't want to lose root. Wait for a rooted ROM or a proven root method to be released.
I don't mind that. I'll wait for a root. Will it get rid of AR recovery as well. I installed stock Rom as said. Just want to make sure the recovery and everything else will be gone.

Thanks guys. Sorry for double post.

If you flash the RUU then it will bring "everything" back to stock.

If you want to keep your apps download and run titanium backup. Do a full wipe and clear cache. Install your Rom and afterwards reload titanium backup and install your missing apps. I am running virus sense 4.2 and it runs great. You Shouldnt have any trouble.
Edit...
I do not use Rom manager because I prefer psfmod recovery.
Are you fully rooted with s off on the boot loader?
Before flashing any Rom make a nanroid just incase something goes wrong
PhantomHacker said:
I am considering flashing to virus Rom. I have a few questions first though.
I rooted with unrevoked, will I be fine?
When I flash will my apps be there if I saved them to the SD card?
Is Rom manager good to use?
Is there anything else I should know before I root.
Thanks in advance

So you are or are not rooted first you said you rooted with unrevoked then at last you ask if there is anything else you need to know before root. Moving on if you are rooted go to the market and download titanium backup use the batch option to save all your apps then after you flash new room use batch to restore all apps I'd you are not rooted you will lose your apps there are apps in the market like app monster that let you back up apps but you will lose your link to the market. Unrevoked will be fine that's whati used as long as its compatible with your phone if already rooted your good. Room manager is good if you use clockwork recovery. Its only compatible with clockwork. You should look up his to back up rsa keys very important if you want 4g. Always backup your phone before you do ANY Mods this will save you allot of heart ach. And last try not to offer money this can be bad In the end but up to you and I don't want any just want to help

As long as you do not flash a the wimax radio you should never worry about this. But you should back it up just incase.

Hello guys. I got a question. I rooted my phone a while ago and since I flashed to Myn's RL5 rom (which is the best rom I used anyway), I can't seem to do a nandroid backup and can't boot into recovery. Just wondering if I'm missing something or should I try to unroot and get another evo?
Thanks in advance.

Use rom manager off the market and flash one of the recoveries then try to boot into recovery and see what happens
Sent from my unrEVOked using xda app
what root method did you use? Did you flash a recovery during root?
At first, I was using the Clockwork mod recovery and that didn't work. But when I used the RA recovery everything worked out fine. Thank s

Amon RA is the best...backs up WiMax, which is more than RSA keys. Highly recommend to any rooted EVO
I haven't picked the GN yet but definitely thinking about it. I'm not understanding the cwm on the GN. I am coming from the Droid incredible and when i rooted it I could automatically get in the cwm on it. But I'm seeing that you have to flash the cwm for the GN. How will I go about doin that. Thanks. Sorry for the dumb A** question. Lol. But if i do get this phone I will be very new to it. I understand everything about the cwm and how it works but i didn't understand having to flash it on the GN. Thanks.

If I recall correctly I installed CWM through rom manager. To keep it from getting overwritten each boot I had to use root explorer to rename the stock recovery file and that was it.

Oh ok. So u didn't have to flash it on your GN

If you want CWM you will have to flash it, either through Fastboot or ROM Manager. Likely on your Incredible the root process you used also flashed CWM for you.

I got my EVO yesterday and came with 2.2 and i rooted thru Unrevoked 3.2... (simplest root ive done)
I just want to know if there would be any problem flashing roms or anything. I got the latest clockwork recovery installed.
Thanks

Should have no problems as long as your s-off. Also I do recommend getting rid of clockworkmod recovery and getting amon ra(supersonic ra). Clockworkmod is know to cause problems and some roms are not compatible with it
