Fascinate running 2.2 update - Continuum Android Development

Android central has an article and instructions to get 2.2 running on a fascinate...hopefully the continuum won't be too far behind!

Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

Motorola defy xt535 coming to republic wireless

Hello.
I am looking for some help in the coming months with this phone. The phone when released will have gingerbread. I am looking to get either ICS or jellybean on the phone.
Problem is republic wireless uses hybrid calling technology which means it switches over to WiFi when available. RW probably uses files baked into their custom ROM, which is basically cm with clockwork mod, and I need to extract them in hopes of merging them with an ICS or jellybean ROM for this.
Anyone up for this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
ICS will allow you to use VOIP calls automatically whenever you are connected to the wifi. You just need to fill in the user-pass and sip server address (check the dialer settings). There is no need to install anything.
Republic wireless has an app that seems to handle the WiFi cell handoff and and their own kernel and such. I won't know the exact changes until I get a system dump of the phone.

I already have republic wireless its just the optimus s that it came with is horrible. Service is good as far as I can tell

Hey Biggiephat! Glad you're interested in this too! I posted a similar (if not TLDR) post on the CM forums earlier today. Many of the apks and background apps from CM7 had to be modded in order for the RW version to work. The same will be true for us. What makes this more challenging, however, is that ICS/JB is an entirely 'new' system from Gingerbread and prior (most of those were incremental updates)... so it will not be as simple as dumping, copying, praying. This will take some serious effort--but I for one am down for partaking. and I love that this phone can receive calls underwater--bwaahaha!
Let's do this!

Woo! Even so, just to dump the system img and debloat this thing would be my first task. Then move on to compiling an ICS or jb aosp ROM. I'm asking for help because I want to get into the ROM game and I think with some help it could be a great experience. I am a software engineer so I hopefully can pick up on this stuff very easily.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

Hard Brick? If this were Wikipedia I'd tag that with [Citation Needed]
I agree it will probably make it non-functional, but I find it hard to believe it's something that restoring an original sprint partition wouldn't fix.

Maybe so, but I've heard stories of people hard-bricking their devices by flashing kernels made for different devices.
If anyone really wants this type of ROM, go to TMO GN2 forums and look at DaGR8s ROM. Or join #saurom on freenode. I asked if he could bring it over but he would rather have me maintain it but I know zero when it comes to modifying stock roms, smali, etc lol.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.
Yea I meam to me with 5.5 inch screen its more tabletized to me so why not exploit it more. **** if you advertise it as a "phablet" then why not send it with the optionm?!

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.

Yea, the settings is a nicer setup on my tablet. Switching tasks is a lot faster too. I just hit one button instead of holding it down. But I like this phone's recent task list. I rooted my s2 as soon as I got last year. I've run many roms. My favorite was Juggs 5.0. When ICS officially came out, I Odin to stock ICS. I rooted it so I could add my 15 toggle panel back on. There are a few apps I had that required root. I'm eager to get some JellyBean on it though. I did flash the google now and google ears. Those are pretty cool.

Same here. My last phone (LG P500), which has now gone to my wife, is rooted and I like to stay tuned to developments for it as well. I expect that I'll root once I get 4.1 for my T989D (assuming it comes), then see what custom ROMs can offer beyond that. I've been reading these forums for over a month now to learn the procedures and of potential pitfalls so I don't wreck my phone when the time comes.
This phone is quite a step up from the P500, so I'm pretty happy without root for the time being.

I'm guessing by this statement, that you are a young teenager. I am an Android user and have been for quite a while. I honestly prefer to live my life and not have to tweak a phone's core OS for it to work right. It should work correctly right out of the box. Having to reset my phone several times a day or deal with bloatware is not fun. The nature of Android OS to begin with requires de-bloat/hacking.
Anyway like I said this is coming from a SGS2 user and former iPhone user as well. Only reason I don't go back is iPhones are still physically small for my liking. That and I'm on contract with T-Mobile and live in a building with poor reception (need WiFi calling)
Bought the phone ... rooted it in less than an hour xD. But, after browsing through some roms, I am in stock now just because everything works. However, I do run some rooted apps that come in handy at times.
Battery
I wanted something close to stock, so I went infamous 3.0 and it's just as stable, but the battery life is so much better than stock ICS. Would never go back.
I think its insane to deal with bloatware. Its androids biggest flaw. And theaon reason I root.
Flash Jedi jelly. I promise you won't regret. ( you will lose WiFi calling tho)

Maybe root for the sake of a rooted installation of Avast Anti Theft.
Maybe root and recovery to flash an OC kernel.
Personally I'm good just as I am.

What's the deal with avast anti theft and root?
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
Personally, I don't feel the need to really make any modifications to the software on my Note II - it works well enough out of the box that I will more than likely leave it stock and unrooted. Battery life is amazing thus far, moderate usage today and barely put a so much as a dent in it (which is a big difference over my S III, which I could run down in a matter of a few hours depending on what I was doing).
I myself thought I was going to have an issue with touchwiz due to coming from various HTC devices as well as a few vanilla android handsets. However, this device has been amazing. I did root it as I have a few apps that need said access but as far as a custom rom, no need.

Typically ill root a device to
flash a version of Android that isn't currently offered directly by the OEM, or simply to overclock a slower device. I'm ecstatic over this device as it is - stock.
I don't need root or some half-baked ROM with bugs.
If it doesn't improve my "user experience" then I don't want it.

My 4th android phone as well and I agree with OP, the phone is unbelievable and is the first phone where I felt, "should I even bother rooting?". I only rooted it for the option to freeze system apps, use my backup from TiBu, and change my font (I hate stock font..), Multiwindow is a nice feature but not a necessity. I do like having a lot less system apps though.
i agree ...this phone is very smooth ...i did a no flash count root with no custom recovery... only so that i could have google wallet!!!!
if i didnt want wallet so bad i would not have rooted!!

You do know you don't have to root to change your font, right?

Had to root and flash. Just doesn't feel right not doing so. Running Jedi romantic with the Asylum kernel and it's awesome. Have noticed extra batterydrain with the oover clock and this thing is smooth as butter
**disregard post**
I have been the biggest aosp advocates since day 1....now I dont care about cm or aokp. Lol!! I just miss my sliding toggles and weather panel from aokp
what are we gonna do now?? I'm starting to feel like a normal phone user without flashing and rooting and kernels lol I would just do it but this thing is literally perfect as is

I've had mine for about a week now, coming from IOS then to the S3. I'm very impressed with it so far. I rooted mine the day after I got it and have three ROMs on it. I'm using CLEANROM 3.3 at the moment.
I unboxed mine and rooted immediately. Multi viewing is the bomb! I can watch YouTube and navigate at the same time in a split window. You gotta have it...root em baby!
