Suggestion Needed - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My problem is I can't access QPST, after I made a change to my ppp config...the weird part is, Odin works, and I can reset the phone in download mode. But when it comes back on, it keeps swithing into airplane mode...also, its giving an error message.TI have all the proper drivers installed...and the phone works...I just cant think of away to get back into my DIAG MODE so I can do programing. I have another post with more detailed info....I'm reposting here because I cant post in the development section yet.....

So...what error message is it giving you? What rom are you on? What change did you make to your ppp config? And are you using the proper modem for your build?

rom is the 2.1 stock..i didnt get a chance to change that yet...In ppp config, I changed my NAI Tethered..from boost to blank..then i changed the user ID to blank.... and I copied the HA AND AAA's from profile 0 & 1 to the epic from th Tp2....when I wrote to the phone it reboted.....as far as the modem I'm not sure but I think is odin..i downlaoded on it and tired to restore everything to stock but that doesnt work...

the message error says Sorry! The process com.android. phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

ummmm try a hard reset, or data restore... see if that resets the information that you changed, cuz the information you deleted and changed is the sprint programming so you might not have signal for data, atleast when i do my toroubleshooting i see the HA's and user name and stuff

I dont think the issue is with the ppp config..Its the NV items I wrote to the phone in cdma workshop...when the phone reset, and came back on it stopped reading the port. the phone can connect in pda but you can not acess cdma or qpst from there..I cant change back the NV items

Internet now working on Sprint Touch w/new ROM

I hope starting a new thread is the way to go on this...
I just updated to the new Sprint Official WM 6.1 ROM, and immediately could not connect to the internet.
I tried running the IOTA automatic data provisioning update (Start->Settings->Personal Tab->Phone->Services Tab->Internet->Get Settings->Start) and it failed repeatedly with a 1012 error. As was posted by others, I noticed that there was a "CurrentUserName" setting in Start->Settings->System->Device Information that had [email protected] where I would have expected to see [email protected] instead. (that would have been my Sprint provided email address) The first thing I tried was to go to the phone dialpad and dial ##3282# to start the EPST program and check my data provisioning settings (this requires that you know your MSL - Master Service Lock Code - if you are going to edit). UserName was blank there, so I tapped the blank setting and held down until an "EDIT" menu popped up. I tapped "EDIT" and changed it to the previously correct [email protected] value. After saving changes and another reboot, I still could not connect to the internet, run IOTA, and the "CurrentUserName" was still wrong. After searching through various settings looking for a way to change the currentusername, I installed PHM Registry Editor and searched again.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/DIM there is a key "EnableCurrentUserName" and it was set to 1. I edited that and set it to 0, exited the Registry Editor, and restarted the device by holding the power button until it warned me about shutting down. I tapped "Yes" and it shut down and restarted. The "CurrentUserName" setting no longer appeared in the Device Information page. At this point I was able to run IOTA successfully and imediately after that I could use the internet and other data services.
I hope this helps someone. Sorry to be so long winded, but I was trying to answer as many "How? Where?" questions as I could as I went.
Briefly:
1. Using WM Registry Editor software, change HKLM/Software/OEM/DIM/"EnableCurrentUserName" from 1 to 0 then save changes and exit editor.
2. Dial ##3282# and edit UserName to correct [email protected] address. Device will reboot when you exit and save changes.
3. Run IOTA by going to Start->Settings->Personal Tab->Phone->Services Tab->Internet->Get Settings->Start
Thanks to all the others here who have helped me along the way,
Scruffy
anyone else know if this works?
i just flashed the new sprint rom and now the data connection does not work.. no internet.. ? I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and does this fix it?
After some more time with this ROM installed I have found that it is not neccessary to change the ##DATA# (##3282#) user name settings. Just change the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/DIM/EnableCurrentUserName value to zero, save changes and then you can run the IOTA update successfully (or at least I can).
I have found that I need to do this every time I do a hard reset of my device. I hope this helps someone else.

this did not work for me.. I Get error code 67
i started a new thread here........ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415666
so maybe someone will chime in... the ##3282# does not work for me at all.. you hit that on the dial pad and nothing happens... so i can not access that menu...
For now i went back to a OEM rom and called sprint and they got me working by doing a MASTER RESET... also ##3282# works on OEM roms but i think the file EPST.EXE is missing from the CUSTOM roms... any input would be great..
Not working for me.
i'm sure a master reset from within #778 or whatever would work but i don't feel like
putting in the data again.

I just upgraded to NFSFAN's latest ROM, everything went well but I can not get my internet to work. The one thing I did notice is under the services tab, internet is not an option. I loaded the dcd sprint carrier 20090714 cab am I missing something else?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Update:
Well I went back and flashed to the HTC 6.1 rom, then back to the 6.5 rom. That fixed my internet issues, but that option is still missing for me. Then after all of that my MSID was really screwed up. Everything seems to be good now.
please please help me clear the instructions
i have a horribly vague idea of what i need to do, to get the internet working again.
i already got the IOTA_1120 zip file in my cell but when i even try to open it up it says that there is no application that is related to to it, so i must start this application and open up the file from within. How do i do this? am I even doing what im supposed to??
Where exactly is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/DIM and how do i get there???
if you could please instruct me with simple stieps i would greatly appreciate it, simple being like start>program files> etc.
please help i am one step away from smashing this damm cell into the wall

The path of HKEY.... is actually on the registry. You need to use a registry editor (like PHM Regedit) to make the necessary changes to the registry. I would recommend you to re-read those instructions as they will not get any easier than that. Alternatively, if you are on Sprint's official rom and have absolutely no clue what you are doing, you can always call them and ask them for help.
As far as the IOTA zip file, if you cannot open it, that means that you do not have any program to extract from compressed files in your device. Your best bet is to transfer the file to the desktop and extract it there. Once you are done, place the extracted contents back in the device and run it in there.

[Q] QPST Madness Please Help

I have my Epic Flashed to Boost everything is perfect except my data.
My Epic is on FC09 and its on the stock deodexed rom.
I'm using QPST 2.7 323 I have a tried newer version as well.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64
Under the M.IP settings QPST keeps switching the Active user to Profile 1 when I set it to Profile 0. For hours I have been going around in circles. Every time I set the profile to 0, write it to the phone, and reboot I get a Error 67. When load up QPST again the user profile is set to 1.
If I delete profile 1 the 3g symbols will pop up and no error 67, but 3g doesn't work. I tried reversing the info in the 2 profiles since it automatically reverts to profile 1 and I got the 3g symbols to pop up with no error 67 but it still doesn't work
I have tried writing the profiles 1 at a time and it still will switch the default profile to 1.
I just don't get it. I have searched for hours trying to find a solution. Does anybody know another way to get profile 0 to stick as the active user? Am I doing something wrong? Please help I'm at my wits end.

Failed... Phone does not answer

Friends- I am facing a strange problem here. While i connected Sprint S3 for the first time, i was able to connect it to WS 2.7 by latching to the com port after getting in diag mode(rmnet+dm+modem). I was even able to unlock the set by entering samsung default password (while it was not getting spc unlocked) and then flashed cdma operator parameters. After the phone got reset, i checked for prl in the handset which was changed, which meant i was able to flash the parameters.
But then after that, i am able to connect my phone to ws2.7 by latching to the com port, but when i go to read or enter spc/etc, it gives an error "Failed... Phone does not answer". I tried removing the phone and connecting it again, changing the port, reinstalling drivers, but same issue. Request help from gurus..

One V CDMA - Problem in enabling data connection

I am using a HTC One V CDMA (Virgin Mobile USA) in India on Reliance CDMA network. The phone was flashed to Reliance and everything is working fine ie I can make/receive calls/sms etc. 1x / EVDO credentials have already been written to the phone.
Now the issue is that I am not able to enable data or the data connection doesn't get enabled automatically. When I try to enable data it says "Disconnected because service is unavailable". But if I press the "Activate this device" button in the settings section, an activation screen 1..2..3 comes up, then wait for 3-4 sec, the 3G symbol gets displayed meaning its able to make a data connection. Now if I go back to the settings page and enable data it successfully connects, and I am able to access internet at EVDO speeds. But after some idle time, the data connection is automatically disconnected and to reconnect I need to repeat the above process. Even if I intentionally disconnect data and try to reconnect, it doesn't happen and I need to go through the "Activate this device" process.
I believe some sort of initialization is missing which is done during the "Activate this device" phase and hence I am able to connect. What could be the reason for this? Is it some setting/configuration that needs to be enabled?
Please pour your valuable tips to resolve this issue.
Thanks
Fixed the issue with auto connection of data, not sure what fixed it exactly, but here are the last changes that I made after which it started working.
You need to use the tool QPST (I used version 2.7.378, an older version didn't work) for this.
In the M.IP tab, disable all profiles except profile 1
Then edit profile 1 and make changes (check attachment)
Then in RmNet tab enable auto connect for device 0 and 1.
After that
PPP Config --> Um --> Enter user/pass as "net" (Req Pw enc should be unchecked)
PPP Config --> AN --> Enter the EVDO credentials given by the MEID registrar (Req Pw enc should be unchecked)
Please note that I got it working merely by trial and error and some of the above changes may not be required and I am not even sure why they are necessary , but with the above configuration I am able to enable data without any problem.

Well, I had loaded the NVDump earlier, but as I had mentioned it would connect first but if you disconnect or get disconnected it wouldn't reconnect.
Check if the SPC is correct, cause I never got any error like that.

You are talking about Reliance CDMA right?
If yes you need to get the MEID registered, will cost you about Rs 500. Reliance store guys will not do it, have to get it done through some 3rd party provider.

Without the correct EVDO credentials, you won't be able to get EVDO speeds. You need to check with your MEID registrar.
NV dump is not really required and the same can be configured manually if you have the credentials as I have described above. Since you are able to make and receive calls, it looks like the Akey is already set.
so that means if i dont get the credentials from the registrar EVDO can never be started on this handset??

You could check with some other person who does MEID registration, maybe they can retrieve the credentials. But without it, EVDO will not work.

Simply by loading the Reliance PRL file, you should have voice signal, if not you are doing something wrong.

I don't think that would be a problem.
Make sure you are using the right PRL file.
No above steps required.
You must have flashed NV Dump already.
Your phone must be activated via *228 already.
Just perform below mentioned steps :
1) Put your phone in Diag Mode by dialing ##3424#
2) Get HTC Diag Mode driver if you don't have it already
3) Download DFS Demo version from DFS Website
4) Connect your phone with DFS, send SPC
5) Now, go to Programming tab -> Data ->
6) Click Read
7) At PPP tab, write "net" (without quotes) to SIP NAI, UID, Pwd field.
Restart the device and here you go, your device would get connected to internet instantly.

[Q] Wifi doesn't work, phone doesn't generate a new wpa_supplicant.conf

I flashed a new ROM, and when I found I didn't like it (phone froze very often) I restored the nandroid backup I had taken. When I booted up again, wifi didn't work. When I press the toggle it turns to on, but gray. Doesn't start to search for wifi networks.
I googled around for a bit and found that I should rename my "wpa_supplicant.conf" in root/data/misc/wifi. I renamed it to "temporary backup" so that I wouldn't lose it, and didn't set a file type so I know the phone shouldn't recognize it as the wpa_supplicant.conf. I was also told that after a reboot would generate a new wpa_supplicant.conf, and yet after 2 reboots I still don't have a new one and wifi still doesn't work.
This makes me suspect that the error happens before it looks for wpa_supplicant.conf, but I don't know how to troubleshoot any longer. I don't know what information is relevant, so I'll post it as a reply and in the main post as fast as you ask.
Thanks beforehand!
