Hi, I am in Malaysia and the GPS won't get a signal at all, does the phone have some kind of weird restriction to make sure the gps only works in the US?

All morning my Defy running CM7 on VirginMobile AU has been showing grey icons for GSM signal strength and 3G/HSDPA connectivity.
I understand this means the device has no connectivity to the Google servers, I'm guessing for market and such. Also Google Talk and Facebook don't work - both report errors logging in.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Is the cause with my handset, my provider or Google?

I'm not sure if I formulated thread subject in a right way. But maybe you will understand.
I had a long vacation in Spain (I'm from Lithuania). I was dependant on GPS very much.
And reception time was sooooo bad! I needed to wait 3-7minutes to get GPS signal in Sygic application. All the time!
Today I returned from Spain and tested GPS in Lithuania (my country) and signal reception was very good. Just a matter of seconds. Sygic was catching signal almost immediatelly after application has started fully.
I did many tests after I returned. Same was before leaving to Spain.
Is this a Roaming issue? What should I do to make GPS reception good when I'm abroad? I made many tests: enabled location services, enabled Wifi, tested that even with the data connection ON (yes it was pricey). All the time GPS reception was very long (close to non acceptable).
Any ideas?

Try faster fix (needs root) changes NTP server, closer to your location.
Also try taking a couple of radios to flash when you go overseas. A lot of people now using the JB radio XXLF1 which is working great for me on ICS.

I have Galaxy nexus factory rom 4.2.2 (unlocked and rooted) and I am very angry with GPS offline locking. I was used from other devices like HTC that all I need is just to turn on GPS and it will get the signal right away without a need to download any data for better locking. And I don't understand what it can't be that simple on Galaxy nexus GSM.
If I start for example "GPS status" app and this app is not able to download GPS location it WON'T lock ( it gets for example 3-4 satellites for a while and then all satellites disappears and it starts locking for satellites again.. - finds few satellites and drop them afterward but never lock if no data connection....) etc. ! I also tried to reset GPS data. But if I let it use data connection (wifi) it works right away like charm!
I don't really understand how it works. I guess it needs to download some kind of first lock data location according to my carrier or location internet provider. I am using NAVIGATOR for GPS navigation.
question 1:
is there any way how to make the phone work just by turning GPS on without using any data connection ?
question2:
If not, is there any way how I can pre-download the GPS location so I don't need to download it from the internet but just load it from the saved file or something?
I was searching but didn't find this kind of problem.

I'll piggy-back on that thread since I'm having the same problem.
I moved my Galaxy Nexus (GSM, Maguro) from the stock Android to Cyanogenmod over a year ago, and noticed that GPS just won't work when I'm in a foreign country, ie. without a data connection while it works fine in my home country with a data connection.
Even after riding around outside for a whole day in open fields, GPS still won't locate me without a data connection.
I also noticed that while travelling abroad, GPS will locate me within a few seconds after I connect to the Net through a wifi connection.
Before I get a GPS + Glonass smartphone, I was wondering if someone knows if the problem is software-related and has a fix.

I have a problem with my hox. It doesn't roam between my WiFi AP's. Even if the signal to ap1 is very weak and I'm standing next to ap2 it doesn't roam. Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

I bought my Nexus 5X 3 weeks ago, International Version H791 (EU).
My problem is: My gps never fix or see any satellite while my data network (LTE, 3g) is on, when I turn off my data the gps fix in 1 sec.
I use the configuration Location/Only devices but nothing happen.

Gps works only with Wi-fi and LTE connection if my data network is 3G the gps never fix.

Hi everyone, after installing pixel-roms on my nexus 5x international version, the GPS is no longer working. Tried to use gps status and toolbox but nothing. Reported to factory conditions but nothing yet. Relayed to LG assistance where they were able to fix it by upgrading the firmware. After I unlocked the nexus 5x again and installed a new ROM (Pure nexus):
again the same problem. No satellite detected. Currently I have flashed, without results, the latest version of radio. Do you have any ideas or should I send it back again to assistance?
