Ok I'm on a rooted G2 running the virtuous sense Rom. I've had back UPS of every Rom I've ever used yet the last time I switched something went wrong and the phone was stuck on the HTC screen I went to bootloader and I went into recovery and tried restoring stock but the only one it showed was the backup before the wipe. My SD card still only has 8gb out of 16 I have like 10 SONGS I'M guessing they still have to be somewhere on the SD I can't find then with astro. Is there anywhere j can get the stock G2 Rom I just wanna go back to stock that's all. Ty in advance n sorry for the question if its noobish

I'm pretty sure CWM defaults to your last backup; I don't have multiple backups right now so I can't verify but, I'm remember there being a means to browse the available backups.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
to browse all your backups you made with cwm go to the root of your sd card then cloworkmod folder then backups.
It wasn't finding them I guess it usually did n list them in recovery. But I want to the root and found them in clockwork I moved them to the SD and it found them no problem not sure why that happened but thanks for the help? I was panicing there for a min

How do I do a Nand backup ?
What does it mean ?
Whats the best and safest way to do it ?
Will wiping data be involved ?
Sent From My Fully Rooted HTC Evo 4G Via XDA App.
To do NAND backup, you go into recovery. There should be an option for backup/restore (I use Amon_RA so CWM might be different). You do this before wiping your phone to install a new ROM or new kernel/radio/whatever. If something bad should happen when you flash the new stuff, you go back into recovery and do a restore.

Well I'm not going to flash anything yet . Just wanted to know if I should do it now after fully rooted ? Or there is no need to back up yet ?
I'm still learning about rooting & after about a month of being half rooted I finally got the S-OFF today
& got me a custom boot animation & got rid of some stock apps I didnt use .

Most newer roms have a recovery option when you power off
Either clockwork or amonra both have nandroid so just navigate the menus and you will see it.
And make sure your battery is charged up good or you will get an error.

Download ROM Manager from the market. You'll have the option to use Clockwork Mod or Flash Armon recovery so you can be sure
Hello
I have an original HTC Desire to be honest I think its a great mobile apart from one major issue which almost makes it un-usable its complete lack on onboard memory.
For this very reason I upgraded the mobiles ROM from a standard Vodafone UK OTA ROM to Oxygen-2.0-RC7 but I want to remove it and put something on that is 1 better 2 does OTA updates 3 works 4 Im not the sort of geek who can spend days trying to get something working so maybe going back to stock would be best.
I dont know what Vodafone UK are currently up to Andriod wise but think maybe I should go back to stock as I will again get OTA updates when the OS is updated something that I dont get at the moment.
Instead of using Vodafone stock ROM isnt there a generick google ROM with OTA I can use?
My only concern is that will I have to UN root the phone?
Will I loose all ability to transfer apps to the SD card?
I would like to get this done today so any replys would be very very much appreciated.
Cheers
Paul

Ok now im stuck its been so long since I originally rooted and applied my custom rom I can't remember how to put a new rom on!
I downloaded MIUI_Au-Desire-1.10.14_Signed.zip and placed it in the root of my SD card I then rebooted using the bootloader option I then whent to HBOOT and selected Fastboot then selected bootloader the next screen comes up with some errors then goes back to the previous screen...
Any ideas what im doing wrong?
You need to select recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
As rootSU said, select Recovery and not Bootloader.
Before flashing ANY new rom it's always best to do a nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (you can restore to how it was when you made your backup).
Before you flash the rom you've chosen you should do the three wipes... In recovery "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", "advanced/wipe dalvik cache".
Install your new rom... "install zip from sd card", "choose zip from sd card".
Thanks everyone ive updated the ROM now i use Titanium backup too.
Only thing is im not sure ill stick with 'MIUI_Au-Desire-1.10.14_Signed'
As im not sure it syns with facebook, twitter only gmail but ill keep looking

If you are set on getting frqent updates you'll want some aosp style rom. I use a sense base rom as I like sense - using a sense 3.0 rom, don't expect many updates as most of it just works

once you've download the apps add the accounts in the settings.
I like MIUI for the themeing and speed.
however if you like to keep sense, insert coin is really good, used that for a few months. Generally most roms you find on here will give regular updates much more than Vodafone or any carrier.
Personally I wouldn't go back to stock. If MIUI isn't for you, its not everyones choice, just browse the roms listed, try a few and see which you prefer.
On a side note I also find my backup root better than titanium backup, but once again its a personal choice.

FYI
Baadnewz has stopped working on InsertCoin.
Just tried to go back to a fresh backup(30 min old) and I get the message "Error restoring /system!" after a while. Happends on all my backups, with latest Rom manager and latest recovery. I saw a thread somewhere about deleting su-backup, file is not found when trying to with adb so I guess I don't have it. Couldn't find anything else about it, what can I do?
I had a similar problem. I solved it by using ext4 recovery instead of cwm.

You can't just restore the backup? or your phone isn't turning on and stuck on a white screen?
It's just the backup that fails, luckily I still had all ROM files on my SDcard so I flashed Ultimate Ace and now thats what I'm using. Root is back as well, however I still very much need all my apps and settings.
Would you please post a guide on ext4 recovery? I've gotten used to CWM, can you have them both at the same time?

To be honest there both pretty much the same as each other. I just use ext4 because ARHD flashed it when I first installed it. You cant run both together.

Same stupid error with 4EXT
There has to be some solution to this? I seriously can't be the only one with failed restores?
Is it every backup that fails? Or just the one. It could just be a bad backup. As for getting apps etc back, there's an app called "app extractor" (search all one word) which can actually pull your apps and data from a nandroid backup. I believe titanium backup can do this also. Hope this helps.

I just restored everything with TB, forgot it existed. But still, now I'm afraid of changing roms since backups doesn't work. And yes it's all backups, even my original rom backup which has worked before, I'm suspecting the issue came along with cwm 5

All I can suggest is to switch to the latest 4ext recovery. Download the 4ext app from the market and install from that.

Word to the wise. Never restore any system data and settings
I never do, that's why I have to set them all over again, as for system apps I don't think I use any of them except market and gmail.

If someone's still interested: solved the problem with /format system. after that i could easily restore my backup w/o error.
Hey guys, quick question.
My friend has an HTC EVO on Spring. Not rooted, nothing. It's completely stock. It just started acting weird. I pulled the battery and it went into bootloop. When i press the volume rockers + on button it will boot into recovery mode? if thats what it's even called.
After a while of bootlooping the phone shows an image of a phone with a triangle with an exclamation point in it.
Any help?
I've got an infuse, so i'm ok with flashing and rooting and whatnot, i jsut dont know how to reset the HTC.
Sounds like an ota update that was interrupted or a bad ota update
Try this.

Its the original RUU. I think you need HTC Sync to use it. I could be wrong seeing I don't have an EVO.

I started with the basics and wiped the phone data and it booted right up. Now lets see if it stays running...
Just for future reference, is there a way to completely wipe the phone (rom and all) and start fresh?
On the infuse platform we use ODIN. Not sure if there is something similar on the EVO

On the evo you use a RUU it returns you to complete stock no recovery no root but you will still be s-off. RUUs can be flashed through fastboot or renamed and flash in the bootloader

If you have a card reader you can transfer it to the sdcard or use your phone transfer it to the sdcard and put the sdcard back in the evo

Awesome, Thanks!
i switched from mimicry to trickdroid recently and i cant get past the white htc screen. i already posted about this and ive been getting help but i noticed that it was in a ONE S section and so im guessing theres going to be some problems later. anyway, i already flashed boot.img and everything. nothing seems to work. my phones been turning off randomly lately as well. what should i do? un-root and re-root? or flash the PC10IMG.zip? any help would be appreciated. i dont NEED trickdroid but i hear its one of the best right now. i loved mimicry but the battery would go from 100 to 20, back up to 60? something was off.
Problem flashing trickdroid may be you have the wrong bootloader, you will need the desire z one as it has a larger system partition required for that ROM. You shouldn't need to fastboot flash a kernel unless you used the HTC dev bootloader method to gain root. If you rooted properly with gfree than you can just flash the new bootloader via fastboot, see here for more details
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27796375
If you want see post 30 in that thread for a pc10img.zip that may be easier for you but fastboot is always safer.
As for the issues with the battery I doubt its mimicry, and I also doubt you will have a faster phone with trick droid, maybe prettier if you want sense though.

Okay so i switched my hboot to the DZ one and its working! i just have one more question, i had to partition my sd card and enable swap to make it run smoother. so i did that, flashed cwm, went to partition sd, 128, 256, and it was done. then i noticed everything on my sd card was gone and new folders appeared. it seemed more organized but everything was gone. was this supposed to happen?
Yeah that will happen, think of a format as a super wipe. If you use 4ext recovery you may be able to add/change swap or ext partition but always backup first

okay, thank you so much. you actually got it to work for me. now im having trouble with the tweaks haha. i dont really need tweaks anyways. at first i flashed the tweaks and it got stuck at the htc desire HD screen. so i superwiped, and flashed the trickdroid rom again. do i have to partition sd and run swap_enabler script again? or will i never have to run it again because i already did it once.
Don't need to repartition sd card, it will stay as is untill you reformat it. I don't use trick droid but if it doesn't have swap built in by defult you need to run the enable script at any reflash
