Rooting Telus Desire HD? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did anyone grab one today and try to root it using the method already listed?

I haven't read anywhere that the Telus Version has been released yet.
On a side note, I can't even check the Telus website, seems to be redirecting me to a Koodo Mobile site.

They're out now!!! The guy at the telus store said it's the exact same as the us version. I just wanted to make sure before I bought one

From what I have read on the normal desire Leedroid forum, rooting the phone should be the same. The only differnece betweent he 2 phones is hardware.
I am only new to rooting, but i think i would be using the radio -
28th January 2011: Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 - TELUS WWE 1.84.661.1
MD5 Checksum: edc9b36f3e30b8a3aec0f8e5ebfe9484
I am also wondering what version Kernel the Telus version has when you receive it, ty.

The Telus version is running:
2.6.32.21-gb291666
[email protected] #1
Wed Jan 19

I rooted and flshed CM7, but somehow ended up loseing sound, not sure if it was due to the rooting or what not.

Which method did you use? How do you know if you need to downgrade? Link to the one you used?

I have also picked up one of the Telus Desire HD.
I tried rooting it last night but no luck as of yet. When I try to make the goldcard it simply says that the card is corrupt. I am going to try again tonight.

any luck with rooting yet? the sound issue is somewhat alarming...

A fix should be coming soon.

Wait, you were able to get yours unlocked? I was told by Telus that the unlock codes were not available until Feb 15th, my unlocking service , htccode , told me the same thing, they just weren't in the Databse yet. Maybe it was because I asked on the 10th.

I got mine unlocked from
Code:
mobileincanada.com
for $20 on the 11th morning. I tried 3 other services all said it was not in the DB yet as well. Mobileincanada had it to me in about 45 min.
Worked 100%

Sweet! Thank you, going there now.

Just because Telus doesn't yet offer the service doesn't mean that people there don't have access .

Why do you people waste your money when my radio tool can do it for free?

While I don't want to seem like I'm advertising a site, I had my Telus Desire HD unlocked over the weekend, on Saturday via the site www [dot] cellunlock [dot] net
They usually have phones up there for unlock a couple days if not the same day it comes out, and I get my code from a few minutes, to a couple hours. Not bad.

I've tried to follow your guide and although it's spelled out very clearly, I feel like I'm getting in over my head. I also dont have a way to format my microSD card to make a Gold Card which is one of the steps along the way.
It seems like so many things can go wrong, and I wish I knew what I was doing like you guys because I dont want to pay someone to do this when its flat out right here infront of me.
I should have taken computer science :\

Can't get my Desire unlocked?

I wanted to debrand, but apparently debranding locks Orange UK phones or does it?
Anyway tried HTCUnlock.com/Unlockingonline.com
Got the following.
The reason why your order could not be processed is as follows:
VERY NEW HTC HANDSET - PLEASE UPGRADE SERVICE
The scammers even though it was advertised as £12.99, they want me to order again this time paying £29
So the next one I tried,
HTCCode.com
Something similar, they could not unlock.
Anyone any ideas? I don't really need it unlocked as would be using on Orange anyway but wouldn't want to be locked out.

When did you purchase the code from HTCCODE? Our database was updated on the 28th July and thereafter we have codes for all HTC Desire.
I suggest you take a look at this thread :
http://www.htccode.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2187
I bought a Desire for my girlfriend yesterday and I've unlocked it at http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/htc-desire-unlock
I payed $25 on the new database because I was in a hurry and didn't wanted to wait and see if the code can be found in the standard database first($16).

I had the same thing with my week old desire (tried unlocking the day after getting it). They said that I could do a more expensive search that would probably work, however they suggested just waiting for HTC to release the new database.
It all depends on when your phone was manufactured and what database update will include your code.

Nope. Not with mine anyway and also LennyUK is running custom firmware on his orange locked Desire.
The only things to be careful of is the HBOOT version and also make sure you flash the correct radio.
I've tested 5.09.00.08 and 5.09.00.20 and they both work with my phone.
Telus
I used htcimeiunlock.com. They tell from the start the price for each search options ($15 and $24).
Mine was $15.
why are you all paying for unlocking???
Is it possible to do it without paying?
You can try asking your provider for the unlock code, I think they charge 15 pounds.
Right now there is no free way to unlock the new htc devices.

[Q] Carrier Unlock

Alright.. been working at this for the last four hours I'd say and I still have no luck so now I've come to the experts for help - of course that's you guys!
I bought an carrier unlocked T-Mobile G2 off of eBay and heres what I've done currently:
Put in my SIM, didn't work so I came here
Rooted my device following this tutorial
Loaded a Modaco HTC Sense ROM on my device - STILL NO Network Connections
Put CyanogenMod on and still had No Network
Did the gfree unlock, and ran the ADB codes to check everything everything was good
These are the guides I followed..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834228
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#2._Run_gfree_on_the_phone
ALSO I DID NOT HAVE TEMP-ROOT when I went to PERMROOT!
Please can someone give me some tips?
Need some more info from you. Lets start with your last comment about not having temp root. If you followed the first guide you linked you did in fact have temp root first.
Now i need to know where you are at now. If you got the rom flashed and everything is working xcept network connections you need to first check your apn settings. Paste those here so we can see what you got goin on. Also there are a few posts about your problem, im gunna check them out for you as well

When you did the adb commands i need to confirm you got this one
OK echo -e '[email protected]?40\r' > /dev/smd0 # [email protected]?40

Carrier Unlock
For all you people trying to unlock your G2's for use with any carrier. All you have to do is call T-Mobile and request it. I did it on my G1 and I've done it on my G2.
There are certain requirements and stipulations but I'm sure the majority of you will meet them.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. There are plenty of postings from people who unlocked their phones with unlock codes, and ended up with a phone that won't pick up the network.
The gfree method of unlocking the phone is actually safer than the carrier's own method !
Yea it was a factory unlock that is screwing up this guys phone. Maybe..... if your phone isnt reading a sim card you might need a replacement. Have you tried any other sim cards?

Really? I've been with T-Mobile for years, I always unlock my phone from the carrier directly, and have never had any problems. I've tested it on a few SIMS successfully and I don't expect any issues when I go overseas. I guess we'll see. What issues have you heard of?

It's all explained at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
It's a program developed by the great guys at #G2ROOT that gives you full radio S-OFF as well as doing a SIM unlock.
The next thing i would do is get yourself a new tmo sim card. If your g2 is reading the rogers card then it should read you tmo card. Can you test your tmo card in another phone? Alsoo do you have a connection with the rogers card?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I don't live in the states, and the Rogers card is being identified but it didn't have service so not sure.
I have a question. Did the phone ever work? Before you started anything. If not you have been doped by an ebay seller. I would suggest contacting the seller. If phone did work and now doesn't I would recommend you try entering your apn settings manually.

The phone worked perfectly in the United States, but he only used it with T-Mobile and he didn't try another SIM card (AT&T for example)

[Q] Sim card on Telus Desire HD

One stupid question. Can I put a different Sim card in the Telus Desire HD out of the box? I will try to buy one directly from the Telus website, and I won't be using it in Canada, so do I need to activate it or something before I can use it with a different type of sim card?
It's amazing how hard it is to get a new phone with the right 3G bands!! In my country the only 3G bands available are 850/1900, just like AT&T, so the Desire HD will be the next best thing after the Nexus One.
Thanks for your help.
Yes, mine was bought unlocked, and works perfectly with At&t. Telus version, of course. I can answer any other questions you might have.
Thanks for your help. You got the AT&T 3G bands working then? And how did you get yours? Because the Telus website won't send phones outside Canada. Mabey Ebay is an option.
And also, I've heard that it's easy to root the phone using unrevoked, and maybe that way you can use some kind of flavor of Gingerbread. Maybe CM7.
Thanks for your help.
I got it from here: http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-hd-ace-sense-850-1900-3gblack-unlocked.html
I pre-ordered it Dec. 29th, and forgot about it completely. I was going to get the At&t version, but they sent a email saying it already shipped!
Either way, I haven't rooted it yet b/c people have been saying that they've lot sound with the s-off method. I probably will when more people are successful
Thank you. I will consider that site. And I agree with you, it's better to wait until the root process is reliable.
Thanks for your help.

T-mobile UK Firmware upgrade

Can anyone share there firmware version for a stock UK T-mobile HOX. Not only do I not get the 1.28 upgrade (surprise surprise) but I seem to be on a version no-one else seems to mention 1.26.110.5. Can anyone help me confirm this is the standard t-mobile version. Cheers.
it's mentioned a few times in the HOX branch - think it's one of the first impressions threads. I did a thread search on your version and found a few mentions.

Thanks for the reply. I did search but didn't really find the answer to my question. I will try putting it another way.
Does anyone have a STOCK UK T-MOBILE HOX that has a firmware version different to 1.26.110.5 or are we always going to be massively behind even the other carrier branded phones with updates.
Didn't really want to root yet but it is looking more like the only answer.
110 is the standard code for T-mobile UK, so yes, you seem to have the correct T-Mobile UK ROM.
Yes, it'll probably be a while till you get the 1.28 update as t-mobile are especially thorough in their testing before they release a ROM update. However, they're no worse than orange since they joined together.
I can confirm i'm on the same software and on T-mobile UK. I rooted because in the 4 years of being with t-mobile they never release a software update anywhere close to an expected date.
Some folk are still waiting for updates to Froyo on phones apparently.

[Q] Canadian (Koodo) One V Compatible?

Firmware : 1.66.661.3
Baseband: 20.67.30.0831U_3831.15.00.28_M
I noticed my phone has an amazing amount of bloatware on it. I was wondering since I have the Canadian version if I'm able to flash any other roms? I see a lot are Europe/Asia and I imagine are not compatible. I had the galaxy ace before this and remember losing the ability to connect to Koodo (my provider) without the Canadian version of their baseband.
Also with unlocking bootloader/rooting/flashing CWM, are there any repercussions since I have the canadian HTC phone? (t320a)
Thanks all.

Ah cool, I use dropbox, twitter etc.
Totally agree with root, TB, adfree to name a few are pretty much necessary!
I was hoping by bloatware you didn't mean at&t or verizon style bloat, in Canada most provides are not that bad with carrier bloat. Bell is the worst and their phones are stock compared to their American counterparts! Never had a Koodo phone, and I'm planning on unlocking it and using it on Telus, so I was curious about any carrier bloat (dropbox and twitter are HTC added programs).
One more thing, with the free 25gb of storage you get with the purchase of the One V, why don't you give dropbox a try? That's a sweet amount of free cloud storage to add to google drive.

Just to help you out and potentially save you some money (if you unlock it through Koodo), but a locked Koodo phone will still be able to use a Telus SIM without any issues; at least, they used to last summer. I have no clue if the reverse is true, but I'd assume it would be.
I would never use that much space on my phone, I also have 4 tb of space on my home pc's. I'm not hurting.
Also to the prior post, I believe that's correct. Koodo is a subsidiary of telus so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Does anyone have the RUU for the Koodo/Telus version or know where to get it?
Thanks in advance
Well if it's easy to do, I'm up for helping.

No probs,
To TelusHTCHero as well, already knew telus / koodo were compatable as Koodo is a sub-brand of Telus running on the same network. The fact that it takes a full size sim unlike the rest of the One series is a cool selling point too, after unlocking ($14.99 btw) I can just drop the sim card in from my desire and away I go.
Telus wants to charge $289.99 no term / $189.99 2 year / $229.99 1 year. $175 Koodo no term plus $14.99 unlocking is a no brainer. I got my desire by pre-order August 2010, for the standard 3 year contract, so unless I wait another 8-12 months I will have to pay a penalty to cancel my current contract.
After buying a top of the line phone (Desire) and watching it become obsolete for all intents I will never again sign a three year term, technology moves too fast and I want my new toys sooner! The One V has a newer (though similar clocked) processor, better screen (I compared the two side by side), better camera, no storage issues like the desire, etc etc and cheaper than a Galaxy SIII on a 3 year term off contract? Sold, while waiting to see what the HTC "Two" series brings!
Cheers guys, hopefully I can join you soon as a One V owner.
You can't really compare it to an s3 though. It's only arm7 and the adreno 205.
I'm sure the s3 has a way better gpu and is an a9 cpu. That would explain the price difference. Realistically I only go with cost/performance phones and I only pay 30/month at koodo. The phone cost me 25 bucks for a great phone that has ICS. Surely a great replacement for my galaxy ace.
Hey quick question. If a ruu is uploaded here, do we need to use the WWE ones if we are from Canada? I noticed my software version is a little past the posted WWE versions.
I have no clue about compatibility or which ruu's to use so I'm a little scared attempting to tinker with my phone with no backup. Lol.

The WWE will be compatible, once you root use clockwork to do a full ROM backup and your good to go.
The only thing RUUs are good for are " warranty backups" as flashing them will lose root and s-off etc. For this, a carrier RUU is best.
If you can return it for exchange at a store, a rooted backup works, most mobile store employees wouldn't know a rooted phone If it slapped them in the face!

So I need to unlock bootloader, then cwm, backup.. and I'll still have stock with OTA updates? I guess that's all I need.
I beleive that as soon as you unlock, you loose the OTA updates. At least that's how it is with my transformer Prime. As far as getting the phone from Koodo to get on Telus network, I don't know why you would do that as they are physically the same network, just different as virtual networks. I'm on Koodo, periodically I look the other providers and still can't get a better deal for phone + data. There is always 6 gigs a month with Fido but you need to get 3 years contract with penalty, so ---
Anyway. Coming from the optimus one this is quite a good phone. I put the mocado rom + titanium kernel, excellent combination ! You just have to manually add your APN for Koodo and here you go.

Nope, unlocking or rooting does not stop ota updates. Loading a custom ROM would, but then again flashing custom ROMs would negate the need for ota updates anyways.
As far as using a koodo phone on Telus. I have a great plan with them, 6gb data, north American calling, voicemail to text, lots of other extras. Lastly, I signed a three year contract for my Desire September 2010, still some time left. That's the attraction of the koodo One V, $175 plus hst = $196 plus $14.95 to unlock and use my current Telus sim.

AFAIK Koodo won't sell you a phone at that price of 175 unless you are currently in a plan with them, unfortunately.
Also I've read you shouldn't flash OTA if you root/unlock bootloader for the chance you can brick your phone
Seeing as we in Canada are stuck with version 1.66 and the rest of the world is on 2.08 I think maybe I will switch to custom roms lol. I hope development really sparks here though.
