First of all I want to give props to the devs, you guys amaze me. Problem I have been working on getting back the root or unrooting my evo so that I can use my warranty to possibly get my phone swapped out. So here is where I am s-on, clockworkmod recovery, running stock, deodexed rom, I need to get everything back to factory specs for warranty svc. Everytime I run the RUU all I get is this error msg. ERROR 170 USB CONNECTION ERROR. When I to flash the pcm163.img via Bootloader I get a version is older error msg. What else can I try? I think this thing would pass for stock, if I could just get the factory recovery back on, and uninstall superuser. I have no Idea what to do now devs help!
note: interesting how I have "s-on" yet I still have superuser permission.
update got RUU to run but now I'm going to need instructions on how to backup and restore my wimax once I get my new Supersonic Evo 4g.

Do you mean how do you backup your new wimax keys on your new device? You can't restore the wimax keys of your old evo to your new one. All the newest recoveries backup wimax keys now. I'd really recommend going with Among Ra. It's a much better recovery than clockworkmod in my opinion.

I have rooted my EVO user UnrEVOked 3.1 and according to the doc and my testing I have superuser (*root) enabled.
When I read the info on the ROM's listed in ROM Manager it sez that NAND must be unlocked. The docs I read from UnrEVOked 3.1 state that NAND is not always locked but it is unlocked when a processes that needs it to be is being performed.
My question is can I FLASH a ROM using ROM Manager V2.0.0.7 & ClockworkMod Recover 2.5.0.1. I have backedup using Nandroid and Titainum backup. Is there anything else I am missing?
Here is a link to the FAQ that mentions the NAND Unlock Stuff.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked2
Does this permanently unlock the NAND flash on my phone?
No. The tool only unlocks the NAND flash sufficiently long to flash the custom recovery, ClockworkMod. Because of the mechanism that unrevoked2 uses, it is infeasible to leave it unlocked for longer. For this reason, the tool functions as a single unit–if any one part of it doesn't work, the NAND flash may not even be unlocked! After the reflash tool finishes running, the phone's hardware automatically relocks NAND flash.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not a reply, but a further question
Does this method preserve data (I know backing up is always a good idea!) and because of the way it handles nand, does it allow mods like cm6? The reason I ask is because I read something about being unable to remove junk apps. It was either in the actual faqs or in the androidpolice article I read (it was too early this morning when I looked over the new info...).
I think i read that it only unlocks NAND while in Recovery Mode ( i remember when unrevoked2 came out, Flipz said that it doesn't really count as an unlock, you needed to follow Toasts' tutorial [ or use Simple Root now that it is available] ). I assume ver3 is the same as ver2, so it doesn't really count.
My suggestion is Simple Root if you have access to a Windows PC.
You said you did a nandroid backup. If that's the case, you should now be able to use Simple Root or any of the other methods that wipe your phone, then restore your nandroid backup after that.
The key to unlocking NAND is to replace the HBOOT partition which is NOT done using the UnrEVoked 3 method.
I am not 100% sure about this but what I believe you will find that even if the UnReVOked method replaced the recovery partition with a "custom" recovery (clockwork or RA), you will not be able to run said recovery without the proper unlocked HBOOT (called the "engineering HBOOT").
You can try the following but I doubt it will work.
Turn off your phone. Restart by holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time, wait for the white screen to appear. Release the buttons and see if you see a "boot into recovery" option. If you do... try it and see what happens.
Best case scenario is it will boot into recovery and you will see an option to restore a nandroid. Again...I don't think you will.
I has new phone with latest its 1.47 ran unrevoked 3 and now have recovery I use .clockwork but I coulda put any version there and yea I can power up while holding volume down then wait and choose recovery have evolution v9 fresh and stock on here I just restore nandroids so if nand isn't unlocked always why do I need it to be

Thanks for clarifying that. This info will help the OP.
I believe the difference lies in the fact that nandroids can be re-flashed with NAND locked but certain custom roms need the NAND unlocked. Why this is exactly is over my head but in each case the ROM cookers are specific as to the requirments so you don't try to flash and have it fail.
That's my point I know that fresh calls for it and I'm running it don't. See any issues

thx
Thank you much for your replies!
I will give it a try myself tomorrow!

You stated that "I just restore nandroids". I don't believe you are saying that you "flashed" the fresh ROM using clockwork on a system with a LOCKED NAND. Are You? If you are than honestly I don't have an answer as to why that worked.
If my statement is correct then that is the difference. Fresh was already compiled (for lack of a better term) and running properly on a system (one that I further assume had NAND unlocked) when the nandroid backup was made.
Again, I am making a lot of assumptions here and could be full of hot air but I have had success making sure that I follow all directions explicitly.

How did you install? Did you use ROM Manager?
Thanks

I have tried the RUU for the recent OTA update and the previous firmware, both gave me errors at one point during the process that i could not figure out how to fix, error 170 (i fixed with the drivers) then 171 witch i could not get around. I have also tried putting the recent OTA firmware on using the pc36IMG firmware, but for some reason my Evo will no longer check for that file on the root of the SD. I think it may be due to the fact that i have Amons(Think thats the name) Recovery on my Evo now. My Evo is currently fully rooted and NAND unlocked.(Using toasts method) But for some reason it has started freezing alot and not turning back on once the phone goes to sleep etc etc. I am running Fresh 1.0.1(The latest version, the # may be incorrect) And i want to go back to stock, unrooted, without NAND unlocked and then im just going to wait for Froyo to be pushed. If anyone knows a way to do it without the phone needing to check for PC36IMG, and without using the RUU that would be great, maybe an ADB way.
Thanks guys,
Daugusta
im stuck just like you bro...RUU wont work on my evo either....please somebody help us go back to stock anybody?

Put it in your SD and flash it (you will need to root again)
My 4g was broken with the 3.29 update (really). The Sprint store was nice enough to order me a replacement after they determined they couldn't fix it. It'll come in a day, then I mail back the old phone.
I have used unrevoked 3.21 to root and put Amon-RA on it in the past. Before going to the store to have it checked out, I reflashed the stock 3.29. Amon-RA is still on there but it's not-rooted. Is there anything I should do before returning it so they don't say it was my fault? I think I need to reflash to S-ON. Anything
else?
Also, I think my flashing adventures are over but I'd really like root access on the new phone so I can use Titanium backup. It should have Froyo installed already. If I update to 3.29, flash Amon-RA for nandroid backups and use unrevoked 3.21 - and nothing else - that shouldn't break my 4G right? I plan to backup my mac wimax.img before doing anything.
Unrevoked has the s-on tool posted on their site just flash it first then flash the stock pc36img and ur golden, like u never even turned the phone on in the first place..sorry i would give u a link but im not sure if i can do that from xda app. U can hit me up if u have any probs

Got it. Thanks mate.
Welcome, i learned that from deleting all the sprint bloat apps and deleted the sprint voicemail by accident and i realy liked it so i had to flash the img to get it back, at the same time as the ota came out so i unrooted, flashed pc36img, ota, then reroot after making a nand backup....always nand..always
Hey guys, hope i'm posting this in the right place. I am in need of some serious help here! I rooted my wifes Evo via unrevoked and was running myn's RLS4 with no issues. Than i decided to update/flash the radio/wimax combo zip provided by virus on this forum. I did a Nandroid backup before this btw. Well the phone got stuck in the screen with the white box/arrow and android beside it. After a while i did a battery pull. After that the phone would not start up so i tried to flash the nandroid backup i made but it just kept getting stuck on the white screen that says HTC Evo 4G. I had an older nandroid backup of the stock/rooted sprint rom it came with. It let me flash that just fine for some reason but not the newest backup! Well after this the phone was running like CRAP! lagging, random reboots, physically heating up etc. I was directed to Chris Sprint Lovers 3.70 rom by another member. I did the all in one that the phone scans for automatically in bootloader. Worked like a charm and fixed everything BUT............now i cant flash any roms at all. It goes through all the steps when flashing but it gets stuck on the HTC Evo 4G screen everytime! I still have S-off and SU permissions and all root only apps are working fine. I was told to re-root it but that didnt work either. It gets stuck on the part where unrevoked says waiting for root! Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help me? It would be much appreciated!

I think its because the new radio/pri is not really compatible with older HTC kernels or ROMs that are not based off of build 3.70. You might need to flash the older radio and pri before you can flash other ROMs.
Well after flashing the Sprint lovers rom all the software is up to date. Build 3.70, #15 kernel, etc. Runs really smooth but cant flash anything!
From my SuperSonic Evo
What is your hboot version?? You may need to use a different recovery version.
Its .092 I believe. I have been using clockwork recovery prior to this issue. Every time I flash something it just gets stuck in reboot.
From my Android and me
I have the Same problem sprint lovers rom 3.70 build and cannot cannot cannot get into recovery and i'm using Amon Ra and on Hboot .97 i'm pretty sure its the hboot
bump need a solution if any
I can access recovery and flash zips but it gets stuck on the reboot and than I have to do a battery pull and go back and flash my nandroid backup.
From my Android and me
Lucky you mine locks up on the splash screen trying to get in to recovery

Man i hope i can get my wifes phone fixed ASAP or i may be spending Xmas on the couch!!!!
Are you on the old HBOOT or the new one? Cause if your on an old HBOOT you can running the original ruu and down grade the radio and be back on track
Sent from my EVO at the edge of hell
Old one I believe. So the radio is the issue?

I belive so i Think that the new radio's are incompatable with the older hboots such as .97 and below excludeing the eng. bootloader haven't seen anyone have issues issues with .76 or 2.02 and above i have .97 and anytime i flash the radio's my recovery breaks gets stuck at the splash screen and won't go in to the recovery screen. after i flash the ruu that restores the old radios and flash reflash amon ra it works fine again. I have tried to reflash the recovery but its a no go still hangs up
Hmm....she likes the way its running with the 3.70 updates and new radio though. Its much smoother and battery life is pretty good! May try it out though.....
From my Android and me
Also, where can I find the correct ruu? I tried a few out that didnt work!

It gets even more wierd....a friend of mine has the same phone, rooted the same way as my wifes, same software and all. He just flashed the Sprint lovers rom today. He can still access cwm recovery and flash like normal. What's up with that? Why won't my wifes work?
From my Android and me
I tried to run the RUU but it was a no go! It keeps giving me a usb error. This is gettig pretty annoying since she really wants her old font and rom back! Sorry for beating this to death but i just cant figure this one out! I cant flash anything!
I'm trying to return a MyTouch Slide to stock but it seems who ever rooted it before did a sloppy job. I do not own the device and have only done this with an Inspire 4G and a Galaxy S2 so this device is a bit new.
The device at this point has CyanogenMod 7, non S-OFF and ADW.Launcher. There is not recovery on it (Got a red triangle when tried getting into it from HBOOT). My laptop wont recognize it to run the FroYo update from HTC.
Please help me fix this phone.
So far I have downloaded AlphaRev which I will try, as well as the CWM update.zip
If i understand correctly this should get me Recovery so I can then flash a new ROM and be on my way to getting it back to stock, correct?
I hate to be the noob in a forum but thats where I'm at.
Edit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798168
If I flash the ESPRIMG.zip under "Still Having Problems", will that load the phones as if new from the box?? It says it wipes everything and returns to stock, root, rom, etc.
Yup, that's all you have to do. Flash the esprimg.zip and you're good to go.
The fix was successful. Phone is back to factory eclair and running solid
