Hello guys,
I had my HD rooted and did S-off according to the guide posted here in XDA. I am now using CyanogenMod 7 for HD and it works completely fine.
However, the problem is that I am still not able to change default fonts. At first I thought that I didn't make it correctly during S-off and then did S-off once again. But the problem remains same as before. I also changed R/W setting on the system folder using Root Explorer and then switched default fonts to ones that I like manually which eventually resulted in endless loop in booting process.
So it will be of great help if someone can help me.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Unprovoked (latest version) tried on the MAC and PC does not root my HTC Desire running Android 2.1. I have tried everything possible and it just does not grant me root access to the phone.
What are my options, what other software can I try, to root the phone, preferably PC based.
Thanks
Thread moved to Q&A.

Good Lord, of course it doesn't. There is no rooting tool known as unprovoked.

Please, describe the problem that you are facing, what steps you have taken, etc.
Don't ask stupid questions (or ask questions stupidly) and expect anyone to be able to have a vision of your problem, diagnose it correctly AND help you solve it.
lol a classic typo, I was provoked using unrevoked hehe I wish I could change the subject title now, and of course meant unrevoked (sorry was too tired after trying it for many many hours) ... i know that many people have had success rooting their phones with this tool.
My phone got stuck in a reboot cycle after using unrevoked on 2.2, so I downgraded to 2.1-update1 and tried unrevoked again but the same problem happened and no root access. Then I took the battery out for a few minutes, powered it back on, and so far it's been stable, i.e. no reboots. This morning I also powered off and back on again and the phone has not rebooted. I just can't understand it.
Moving forward, is there another option, a different tool which I could use which can root Android 2.1.
Did you enable usb debugging?

Yes and selected default connection type to charge only.
Have you installed HtC Sync then removed it? Making sure the drivers are left on?
I tried on both the PC and MAC. The MAC does'nt require messing around with USB drivers.
On the PC, HTC sync was uninstalled with the drivers left installed ( unrevoked modified USB driver ) and then ran unrevoked.
So I now have HBOOT 0.83.0001 and Android 2.1.
I tried unprovoked once more today, and the phone is stuck in a reboot loop.
1.
I take out the battery, and the phone boots and then reboots once i see the multi-coloured HTC background and then goes into that infinite reboot cycle before I can make any changes.
2.
HBOOT is trying to find an image with a name similar to : PB99IMG.ZIP which it can't find so reboots in a loop until the battery in taken out and then returns to 1.
Hello everyone,
Ok so I bought a brand new g2 on craigslist. Everything was working perfectly fine...until I decided to root it. I downloaded the necessary files and it all worked perfectly fine. Now I know some of you may bash me for this but thats not the reason im asking for help. I know I messed up by not reading more into depth ahead of time. I opened up visionary did the temproot, then proceeded to do the permroot. Phone rebooted but stayed stuck in the HTC logo screen. I seriously need help guys and I would greatly appreciate it if I could just make it work again. I went into the bootloader restored back to factory settings but same thing happens. I managed to get a copy of the original 2.2 stock rom for the g2 put it in the sd card then it seems like it updates fine..restarts a couple of times but stays in the htc logo again after like the second restart. I have the S-on...(prolly screwed). Anyway, im asking here because I searched a lot and I know there are other posts about people who ask this but then there are no concrete answers. I am wondering if there really is a way to fix it. Whether it be installing a custom rom or any other thing. If its not fixable as much as it hurts, Im going to have to put it up for sale and get at least something out of it (for parts or whatever). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys
I will give gou 10 dollars! But hey do a search for visionary bootloop fix. There was a great guide on how to fix that. It will require you to learn about adb. Adb will be your friend for fixing things.

lol about the 10$...hey I greatly appreciate your help though...
Man, I just noticed there are lots of people stuck in this HTC logo screen. Having a hard time installing the damn adb......ahhhh this crap really sucks and its all my fault....hopefully there is someone out there who had the exact same problem and got it working.
ADB is quite easy to install actually, all you need to do is download the Android SDK, get the usb drivers, modifiy the inf files in the usb_drivers folder, and you're good to go.
As for rooting, I would suggest using the more updated gfree method.

I dunno why you have to modify anything. I plugged my phone in and everything just worked.

Only $10!
Man i would've given you @ least $11.
If anyone is having trouble with adb (and I know that it can be a struggle), I'm writing a guide to try and help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
It's not finished yet, but there's enough information in there already to perhaps help a few people out.
Hello,
My business line is a mt4g running iced glacier, I'm running CY 6.1.1 on my g2
My girlfriends phone, sigh..
Tried rooting didn't work. Factory reset, then rooted. I did this with the way shown on unlockr, 2files to download and then used the visionary temproot followed by terminal commands.
I rebooted, soff and flash, reboot.
Its stuck at the htc screen,
Pulled battery out, stuck again and again. Stuck at htc
I would factory reset and do it again following the sticky here but the visionarypermroot.zip mirror is broken.
I rooted her phone bc she asked, wanted better battery life and underclocking feature etc.
Please help, luckily she's not to pissed off cuz its rooted froyo atm, and juice defender seems to be working, I can't seem to underclock with overclock widget.. or oc either, its stuck at 800mhz.
Please help me guys. And help her.

Did any part of the root process work? Do you have S-OFF?
I used the gfree method on the wiki and it worked well for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...cess_.28Permanent_Root_.2F_.22Permaroot.22.29
As always the hardest part was getting ADW working (specifically the USB drivers) but after that it was easy.
S is off and such grants permissions

Can you get into recovery? If so just get a custom ROM onto the SD and flash from there.
I would start from scratch and use gfree/rage method... much better. you can find it on here or in CM wiki.
Hi all,
I succesfully rooted my HTC Desire with a step to step guide.
I have 2.3.3 official gingerbread release Unrevoked version,
After I rooted it I went to reïnstall every app I had then I found out my problems:
1. I am unable to return to the root menu/recovery menu when I try to get there my telephone starts up normally.
2. My market is not downloading anything so I cannot download an app to reach the root menu.
3. My normal internet aint working either only WIFI works. It keeps saying "turning on...".
Because of this I cannot unroot or replace it with an other ROM.
I really hope you could help me out with this.
Greetings from Daley026.

1. When booted, restart your phone. After the restart-process is started, hold the vol-- button. Then should you get to bootloader. Look up, if fastboot is on. If it is, switch this off.
2. Maybe this helps:

3. Do you configured apn correctly? Just check it again.
Thanks for your quick reaction I have reached the boot menu how do I see if it is turned on or off? My quick boot has a red colour around the word now is this off?
I think I unroot it so I don't have any problems anymore because this rooting only brought me troubles

Sorry, but it seems, you do not know much about this matter. Please read this guide to understand technical definitions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805247
And i do not understand, what you mean. Please take photo with a camera, mark the corresponding place with a circle and upload the photo here.
Indeed I am new to this.
Thanks for the link with the noob guide
Now a last noob question,
I want to go back to normal version of htc i think it was 2.2 so I can follow the guide and start all over again so I might not have the internet issues but in the guide it says I need a RUU rom but I don't know which software version etc I had from the list in the guide. Or can I just flash the rom from the guide?
Greets
Is 2.33 official ota?
I suppose, you did not have a branded desire. Just download this RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
After downloading, start it and follow the instructions.
Result: Unrooted desire without any branding, original htc-software and fitting hboot (s-on).
Everything works fine now except the market
Been using that links you provided but none of it worked,
A factory reset does that also reset the ROM?
Yes, it also resets your rom to the status, as if it was freshley installed. All apps, all sms, all settings, etc. you installed/made will be reseted. The rom itself receives.

I just successfully rooted my HTC Desire HD and flashed the android revolution HD 6.3.1. (Thanks to the author)
However, after booting, I no longer have the HTC start up sound. I have checked a few threads about this with no success. There are many threads on disabling the start up sound, but nothing that provides a fix for my siuation.
Another site recommended going into the media file and do as follows:
media/notifications/bootanimation and rename the andoid_audio.mp3
My situation is...... after notifications, there is no bootanimation or android_audio.mp3
Has the rom flash deleted this file? Is it located somewhere else? I used both my PC and file manager extensively to locate this but I cannot.
I am hoping that someone else has had this same problem and a solution or if anyone might know how I can fix this missing file.
Hoping patiently

We rom devs usually move the respective files to /data/data. If it's there, and bootanimation/sound is not activated at boot, it means there's a missing symlink/improperly mounted ext partition. Ask your dev how to proceed, as the symlinks are usually different for each rom
I flashed android revolution HD 6.3.1
Would you be able to direct me to the proper location to report my problem?
@ Raymond Ebertt
The ARHD is for Desire HD and such , not for HTC DESIRE !! Ask Mike about your problem this is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
My friend why dont u install the stock rooted 3.12.405.1 rom that was posted a few days ago. Ive tried arhd and the stock one feels way smoother. Im on it currently nd it has the stock boot stuff.
@mitzap... My phone is the HTC Desire HD, however, I will follow your suggestion and ask Mike at that thread this evening after work.
Thanks
I tried your suggestion and all my HTC Desire HD does is open the HTC home screen, closes, opens again, and does so for several minutes. No success on that one.....
Raymond, you had better open your issue on the DHD forum. When I answered your query, I was under the impression that your device is a Desire.
Problem fixed. Thanks all for suggestions
