[Q] Phone reboots randomly - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone reboots randomly if I load a custom room or DK28 . The only thing that will work is if I load DI18 with odin. I have tried DK28 with Odin and get the same thing.
The phone loads then it makes a sound like it looses signal. A red circle and bar appears were the signal markers usually is. The phone does not actually reboot because I do not see the Samsung logo, it loads the splash screen. This happens every few mins.
Any ideas what this could be?

Do you have the dk28 modem installed?
Android Creative Syndicate- From spontaneous ingenuity, comes creative brilliance

Flashing it with Odin doesn't load the modem?

What file you flashing? To be exact.
Android Creative Syndicate- From spontaneous ingenuity, comes creative brilliance

The one on the wiki page.
This one is currently loaded and working
SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5
I tried this one and got the reboots.
SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar.md5

Where are you placing the tar and are you using the pit?
Android Creative Syndicate- From spontaneous ingenuity, comes creative brilliance

TAR is on my computer and I am adding it next to the pda section in odin. The pit I am using the one that came with the odin download.
victory_8G_100528

When using the tar there is no need to use the pit. The mapping is in the tar. I would start with that.
Another question is are you leting odin finish and having it reboot your phone?
Also what do you have checked in the left hand side of odin?
Android Creative Syndicate- From spontaneous ingenuity, comes creative brilliance

What ever is checked when you start the program. Yeah, I am letting odin reboot my phone. I will try it without the pit when I get home.
Can I run any log utility to try to figure out why it is restarting?

the only thing you need checked us reboot

When I Odin flash "DK28 Extended Deodexed" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209&highlight=extended+deodexed I can use the phone for awhile, but it seems that after rebooting it once and letting it load to the home screen, it will randomly do "soft" reboots: doesn't do Sprint's animation just goes straight to lockscreen and reconnects to cell tower. This also happened to my brother when he tried the original leaked stock from Sprint (atleast I believe this comes unmodified from Sprint) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861253. Yet when I went from stock DI18 (fresh from Bestbuy) to DK28 using the leaked update.zip, it works just fine. I think the DK28 tar file is borked.

[q] please!! Anyone!!...

Hello , i ran the EB13 exe that was on the samsung website but it froze halfway thru.
then i tried to ODIN back to DI18 but it kept freezing after about three hours it went thu then i flashed the "update.zip" to get to EB13 which worked but it was very unstable for me so i decided to use ODIN and the EB13 tar file.
well its been seven hours of redownloading the Tar files reinstalling drivers , diffrent usb ports and still nothing.
i can only get into Download mode but ODIN just freezes everytime same with the exe i've tried on both my computers nothing has worked.
i install the drivers and the computer recognizes the phone but ODIN always seems to freeze along with the exe any ideas on why?
i don't believe im "rooted" because i was able to ODIN EB13 but it never got passed the samsung boot so im not worried about taking it into a sprint store but that won't be possible until late tommorow can someone PLEASE HELP??
I will be forever grateful

Try again, removing the battery from the device for at least 5 minutes. Press the power button, and hold it for a few seconds, with the battery out. Reboot your computer prior to continuing, insert the battery, then try the flash procedure again, in the download mode, with DI18. Worked for me. Good luck!
Thank you , but no luck yet that didn't even work 8(
getting desperate now

Hmmm... Try an older version of Odin. Maybe the version that was around at the time of DI18. I'm all out of suggestions after this. Again, good luck!
Are you using a USB port directly on the back of the motherboard?
Have you successfully used odin in the past with this pc?

Odin not working (aka trying not to panic!!!)

So I tried odining my phone back to eb13 today, but the program keeps on hanging on the factoryfs process about 3/4ths of the way through. I already tried putting the .tar in the phone and pda section, and using other usb ports on my computer, is there any hope for me?
what eb13 tar are you using?
I would try to download it again (the eb13 extended is a great place to start, if you're going to use a rom afterwards)
be sure to uncheck the time reset checkbox and include the pit the tar needs to be odin'd with.
good luck
Try a different usb cord, samsungs stock cable isn't great. Also try pulling your sd card outa the phone while you odin, I guess some people have run into problems with odin when the sd is in.

[Q] Soft brick, kind of in a hurry

Long story short, something went wrong while flashing the EE03 modem tar and apparently the SBL (or something) was overwritten, and can only boot into download mode. I know how to recover, of course, but the stock EC05.tar download is still missing an hour and a half (bad internet, right?). Is there by any chance a tar file lying around somewhere that only contains the bootloaders and maybe the modem? Point is no factoryfs.rfs to speed up the download. I need my phone right away... Thank you in advance.
Go to Development and in the stickies at the top there is a thread on How to fix a semi-bricked Epic.... in there is the stock ec05 tar.
Do you BONSAI?

[Q] Phone powering up and sound but no screen after UnRooting Sprint SGS3

So I've torn apart the forums trying to find something to solve this problem to no avail for the SGS3's. To explain whats going on with the phone the phone will go into download mode it will go into recovery i used Team Epics Sprint SGS3 Stock Restore i would include link but as me being a new member I'm not privileged to that ability. I used Odin3 v3.07 which is the only thing so far as i can tell contributed to the problem. The Phone rebooted before it went to pass and the box turned blue and said reset. but now if i just try to regularly power up the phone the Samsung and SGS3 splashes show the phone then does the sound for the Sprint splash but the screen for it is totally shut off not even back lit and the led pluses blue and stays there.
Just would like to know if anyone has experienced this problem and if so knows how to fix it or can atleast get me pointed in the right direction
So do you still have a custom recovery? It sounds like somewhere along the way the stock rom wasn't restored completely/properly
Try rooting again by using Team Epics root from recovery or some any other method you're comfortable with and flash the stock restore again
Or just directly try doing the stock restore once again, but search and make sure the version of ODIN you're using is the most recent

Like CNexus said, the stock tar might not have been completely installed, possibly the boot file as that was my case, so try it again. You are free to use your file but the stock tar that I've used previously that worked for me can be found at http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...-30-2012-sprint-only-unroot-return-stock.html
Thanks for the infos guys im not sure if that was the situation or not... i went back to odin 3.04 so it would fully flash before autobooting and i used the files directly from Samsung and got it working just fine.. it was my hail marry thankfully it worked.

Help me please, I think my phone is toast

My phone was working fine today until I took it out of my pocket and it was stuck at the Tmobile Note 2 screen. I tried multiple times to restart it and no go. Tried to go into my TWRP recovery and it appears there is no recovery.
I tried Odin tonight with the rooted stock file on here and keep getting no pit mapping. I tried with a pit file I found and it just gets stuck. From what I'm reading through google, it appears to maybe be a hardware problem. Does anyone have anything I can try? Phone was running Octos Rom with no problem for months.

See if you can Odin just a recovery image and then try to boot to recovery. I think I have a few different recovery .tar files for T889 if you can't find online. You may also want to try a different cable if you continue to get errors connecting.

I actually did try that, tried stock recovery and TWRP, both say no pit for mapping. using the tar from sammobile I did get it to start downloading one time, it went for like 45 minutes and then finally said failed at probably 3/4 along based on the bar graph that was showing on the phone. That worked after I switched USB ports on the computer although I think that was just a fluke as I tried again after it failed and kept getting the same message of no pit for mapping.

How old is your battery? This may sound crazy, but I thought my phone was toast several months ago but when I changed to a backup battery that I had all was fine. Also, try restarting your computer after you change USB ports. It may help to get Odin working properly. I have a copy of a CWM recovery that's worked for me to get me out of some similar issues. You can download it from my Dropbox here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qx45bapmroh8k0b/Note2-CWM-6.0.4.3-SGH-T889.tar?dl=0
Hope that works. Good luck!
