Hello,
I would like to know if there is a way to remove all HTC Stuff in the ZIP and replace it with another launcher like LauncherPro before the flash in recovery ?
Does Android detects it directly ? or do I have to modify some file ?
Thank you.
Best regards
you can try a ROM without "HTC Stuff", replace the launcher and than erase it (root explorer)! the launcher is not so big like 5 MB and i think it is possible!
You can't remove the Sense launcher without then removing all the Sense widgets/apps, etc...just add the new launcher to the ZIP before flashing and then flash the ROM
Yes I plan do remove all Sense widget/apps and HTC launcher (Rosie.apk)
Put LauncherPro.apk and then flash the ZIP.
Android will boot well without HTC launcher ? it will automaticaly detect LauncherPro ?
Thank you
It will, but it'll likely crash. Better to get an AOSP ROM and add Launcher Pro to that
When i was running Leedroid I removed the rosie.apk and put launcherpro in to the sysyem folder before flashing without any problems. Also there is no need to remove the widgets but if you want more space on the system partition you might as well since you can't use them anyway.
Edit: Well if you plan on removing all Sense apps as well Eddy is right, just go for AOSP. But you can just replace the Sense launcher and keep all the Sense apps.
Well I would like to keep some HTC stuff that don't need Sense launcher.
Like Camera, Album, Contact, Dialer...
I succeed to install a ROM like Starburst, and then after first launch with HTC Sense, set LP Pro as default. Then I uninstalled all HTC Sence stuffs with rm apk + pm uninstall package (I'm S-OFF so i can do it).
After doing that i had a system partition that could fit in a 180M size.
So I did a nandroid backup, putted Sense Data++ hboot, nandroid restore.
It works well, now I have a fully working HTC ROM that fits on a 180M system size partition.
But if I wipe factory reset, I stuck in boot loop.
It is why i'm asking if there is something to modify to make a ROM without HTC Launcher but Sense based...
Do you understand what I mean ?
Thank you
No I don't really understand it. But the way you do it now is the crappy way and your bootloop is either caused by data2sd and the factory reset or because you don't have a launcher any more after a factory reset.
If you want a sense rom without the sense launcher, download your rom, edit the zip (remove rosie.apk from /system/app and put launcherpro in /system/app), if you want the data++ hboot you need to make sure that your uncompressed zip is smaller than the system partition (even tough I don't see the point in custom hboot when you use data2sd) and then flash it, this should hold up even after a factory reset because the launcher is now on the system partition and not the data.
I don't use data2sd, I didn't flash it (It should be done after first boot of Starburst but I didn't), so I still have the default data partition on HTC.
I moved Launcher Pro apk in /system/app so there is a launcher after factory reset.
The /system is smaller than 180 uncompressed.
I wan't to have a deodexed ROM.
I would like to avoid data2sd or a2sd+ too.
Thank you
Sense apps need Sense to work - without it half the ROM will fall over
If you want the HTC apps then you'll need to keep Sense and just add the new Launcher to the ZIP
Currently it works well without HTC Sense launcher (+ all widget removed).
LP Pro is in system/app
Camera, dialer, album, contacts, etc still work too.
I just can't factory reset.
I wanted to know a way to do a fresh start without Sense launcher if needed.
Maybe there is no way to do so.
Thank you
True, but Sense is not confined to the rosie.apk. Rosie is part of sense, namely the launcher. Like i said, when I was still using Leedroid i removed the rosie.apk before flashing and replaced it with launcherpro. I did not get any FC.
I will try to start from beginning with a deodexed default sense ROM.
I will remove all HTC stuff + facebook, footprint & co... put LPPro in system/app ZIP
And flash it...
I will tell you the result.
Thank you
So...
Some news :
I'm using the HTC Android Kitchen to make my own ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
I start from the file RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
I copied from temp folder the rom.zip contained in it.
I revert my hboot to sense stock partition.
With the kitchen, I succeed to install root, busybox.
It works, the Desire boot well.
When I try to deodex the ROM (deodex, APK signing, ZipAligning), after the flash is complete, I have a bootloop on HTC Logo...
any idea ?
Thank you.

Hello all,
I am running stock rom rooted, version .5.
Due to some FCs happening I want to reinstall the stock rom.
How should I do it?
I don't really remember..
My phone was unbranded when I bought it.
Just running the RUU of the latest stock rom will do the work?
Or do I have to unroot it firstly?
Also, I have created a partition (ext3 - 512MB) at my sd (8GB - Class 6)..and I would like to be able to install apps there...I think it's called A2SD..
How can I do that?
I am taking a backup with TB and will backup contacts and anything else I need.
Should I take a nandroid backup too?
Additionally, in order to decide which rom would be better for me, is there any way to try custom roms, such as running a virtual android device at my pc?
Thank you for your time!
To use the A2SD+, you need to be rooted.
So you can either run a RUU (unroots your phone - then root it again) or search the Android developement for stock rooted ROMs with A2SD+.
If you choose the 2nd one, just boot into recovery wipe everything and then flash the ROM and then restore everything with Titanium.
Here's a stock rooted one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Nandroid is always good, does not hurts when you have a backup
Thank you for your reply!
To start with, I haven't flashed through recovery any rom yet and haven't wiped data, and thus I am really inexperienced with these.
So I could download this ->"2.29.405.2/5 INIT.D ROM v3.0 | v3.1 - NEW!"? (The version .5) with init.d so that I can install the script of A2SD+ ("A2SD+ (1.4) - v3 compatible", right?
Do I have to flash a radio too?
I think I've read here somewhere that if the radio you're having is working properly then stick with it..If I wipe everything will I still have to install a radio?
So if I download this version what are the steps that I should follow?
1)Backup everything I need with TB and nandroid.
2)Copy the file into the root of sd.
3)Boot into recovery.
4)Wipe everything->wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition?
5)And then which option is to flash the rom? The "install zip from sdcard"?
After this procedure what else do I have to keep in mind?
What about this "Additionally, in order to decide which rom would be better for me, is there any way to try custom roms, such as running a virtual android device at my pc?" ?
Yes, that's the ROM, and you will be able to use A2SD+ with the init.d ROM.
Radio is not needed. Even if you wipe everything, it remains, because it is on a different partition. So wiping everything is safe, radio remains.
The steps are good, but before flashing ("install zip from SD Card") make sure you toggle verification off (it's in the same menu) - just in case.
Altough I strongly recommend to run through those custom ROMs, you'll not regret it (If you choose a stable one from a well known dev).
Yeah, the virtual android emulator. Wanted to write about it, but forgot it after searching for the ROM I Know it is possible, never tried it.
Here are some links, tough:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525930

http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/289928/testing-getting-an-emulator-up-and-running-a-full-rom-with-the-market-etc/
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/test-rom-before-flash-31617/
I have flashed the one with the init.d..but into Settings > data I can only see as internal memory 120+MB...
TB though shows the free data on the sd extern..
How can I be sure what is correct? :S
Also I tried leedroid and cyanogen mod for a little..but leedroid was partially tranlsated to greek and cyanogen mod does not have sense which I seem to have got used to it..
Also, about the emulation..I was stuck at a part where I have to create a system.img file of the rom...:S
1. try to do the three wipes.. wipe factory settings, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and then reboot. perhaps you won't have fc's after that.
2. if you run a stock ruu again - you will lose root and s-on will return. this is the way to unroot essentially. check unlockr for details on that. you can use a universal ruu from htc to do that if you have to. but if you try 1. first, then you won't have to do this. i would suggest NOT unrooting just for a few fc's.
you will solve the problem by installing a different rom. now onto that issue about app2sd...
if you want app2sd.. i would suggest looking into data2sd. i'm on rcmix-hd or rcmix-s-w.1.1 and it's very nice. if you want to use data2sd you can also add this feature. pm me about that. one proviso, your sd-card must be a class-6 or higher to really enjoy data2sd ... i have a class-4 and the speed is not bad. but as the card becomes fragmented, i am sure the speed will suffer.
good luck enjoy your desire.
I have done the 2 wipes except the dalvik cache before installing the rom.
I haven't used a stock RUU.
I have downloaded the v3 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997 with init.d support.
I will stick with app2sd because I read that the sd wears off with all that writing :S
About the roms:
Yesterday I checked Leedroid but the thing that I didn't like was the partial localization..
I am using greek language.
Is there any way to solve that?
Also which other roms are more stable and worth the try?
Additionally, at the thread of the ROM I installed it says "Note that framework-res is already deodexed in this ROM".
This means that I can flash any notification bar icon I want and also the super cicle battery mod?
Thank you for your replies!
Anyone please? :S

With a deodexed rom you can apply global themes, fonts and mods.
With an odexed rom this is not possible, unless the mod is appropriately altered.
Is there any simple and safe way to delete ADW launcher (which comes with CM7) and install LauncherPro after that?

That's what I'm doing now exactly. Anyhow I wont recommend u to do that. Instead install launcher pro and make it default.
Anyhow I will tell the process . Do it at ur own risk. First u should install launcher pro or any other launcher. Doing this first is a must. Then u can use titanium backup to remove system apps like adw launcher of cm7. But don't mess up with other system apps if u r not aware of what u r doing. Doing anything stupid will make u to loose data and install a new rom.
Edit : Suppose if u format the phone after removing adw launcher, it ends up with no user interface. Only way then is reinstalling the rom again.

Install LP, Make it default, then flash this in recovery (2.x only, May not work in 3.x AFAIK)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=525583&d=1298494859
@3xeno, you were right, that .zip can't be flashed using cw recovery v3+, thx anyway.
@bharatgaddameedi, i did it using titanium backup. thx
You might want to keep 2.x Recovery handy for many situations such as these, then flashing radio, Sense based ROMs etc. This can be obtained by installing Clockworkmod From within ROM Manager App. Then, Rebooting into Recovery, again from within the ROM Manager app.
This way, you will have both, 2.x and 3.x
If you can't flash the zip file because your recovery is too new, you can always log on to your terminal and do the following:
Just make sure Launcher pro is set as default launcher before doing this:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -f /system/app/ADWLauncher.apk
pm uninstall com.android.launcher
After doing this the terminal should read Success
Why not just extract the rom, switch the launchers in system/app then repackage and flash?
Speaking of switching apps, once the rom has been extracted and repackaged, does it need to be re-signed etc?

I'm using ADW launcher ex and it's fast, smooth and has got a lot of customize.... The best one seen on cm7.
Hi there dose anyone know how to get this to work on the Wildfire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087745
here is the files on that page
here`s the bootanimation it`s resized for the wildfire res copy the zip to system/media, if you want the sound look at [TUTORIAL]How to make your own boot animations
thanks but that didnt seam to work still got the stock boot animation
make a nandroid backup first then flash the zip from recovery,i thing you need to have s-off on the phone, and the path system/media is for AOSP roms, if you are using sense rom its a different path
do you know the path for the sense Rom as that's what i am using?
I'm using stock Rom only rooted as new to all this.
Chris
/system/customize/resource, here`s the cwm zip for sense roms

Hi there. Let me clarify this a little.
I helped chrisjsy with S-OFFing his phone. He is now rooted. We had to downgrade his HBOOT using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132028 and havent installed a custom ROM since.
He made a nandroid backup (and a titanium backup as well) last night.
Im trying to help him as far as I can, but I can only offer him so much advice as I feel pretty n00b(ish) to android as well.
He is now running out of space on his phone for apps, and Im now wondering if we install link2sd (like I have on my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro which is on stock firmware (android 2.1)), will that help with matters as I have some apps that under Froyo dont move to SD yet I can move them to SD with that?
Though having said all of that, is there a custom ROM that will speed his phone up with very few bugs?
links2sd is a very good app i used it to move only the apps to ext2 partition, but now i use custom mdt its the best way imo you can check it out here but this works only on aosp roms, if he wants a sense rom then go whit link2sd, best rom for me is cm7 go whit the latest nightly here you can find changelog and download the rom
Hey I just installed CoolDroid Revolution v 9.0 and when the installation finishes it just gets stuck on the HTC screen , I installed it again, and this time it gave me an error at the HTC screen, something about android stopped working.
I had a backup so its alright , but this seems to be the best rom for HTC desire , and i really want to get it working.
And If i use an older version of Android like GB , will it have some drawbacks like not being able to install the latest gapps and/or having limited widgets?
Thanks , :fingers-crossed:
BTW if you think there is a better or more stable ROM out there, that is the "best" in your opinion then please tell me
I tried to download and install Runny ROM and there was no download link , so i looked around and managed to find it ,
I installed it and it gave me a similar error, or similar errors, right out of the boot screen it gave me alot of errors, and i had to restore a backup.
I have tried CM10.1 CM7, Supernova, MIUI (camera dosent work, cant find a fix) ,Evervolve , jellynow , oxygen and alot of other ones.
They all worked fine, I liked MIUI but the camera problem threw that idea out of the window,
Runny ROM looks like a really good ROM , no other rom looks this good, but alas I need a fix...
That's still work in progress ROM. But it boots though.
Install a stable and fully functional GB ROM. Check out the Desire index there are lots of them.

I installed it in this way:
1. Wipe everything except as card.
2. Flash superwipe twice (it will automatically reboot recovery).
3. Flash the Rom (Select custom in and then stock a2sd).
4. before any rebooting flash m2sd and select 1st and 3rd option when asked what would u like to move to sd-ext. Do not touch any other option.
5. Now reboot.
6.use root explorer and mount system to r/w and go to system/app or sd-ext/apps_s and delete and replace the HTC_IME.apk with the one in this link then set the same permissions as the other apps and reboot.
cm7r2 hboot is recommended.

-m2sd is a script that you should copy it to your sd card prior to installing the rom, it a zip file and you can find it in first page of cooldroid revolution v9 treat.after you install the rom you may install m2sd and choose the options which i already mentioned.
-Root explorer is an application(from market) by which you can have access to root and system files and able to replace HTC_ime.apk file.( you may do this after installation is over and after the first booting.
at the end you need a fast SD card too.
I love this rom it could the the max of desire. but I installed CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.1 v4.5 it is smooth and run all the options that you want except Sense 4.
good luck.

you may use camera illusion from store but you wont get high quality. stick to the same rom until some body fix sense 4 for desire. or you can use theme sense 4+ sense 4 clock+ weather on this rom as I do.

I ment to use another camera instead of stock camera on CM10.1 JB not on sense 4. other than camera this rom has no issue. you can design it like sense 4 too:
1- download and install theme sense 4.
2- download and install sense 4 clock and weather widget .
3- change transition animation to cube out.
it will be like sens 4.
Hi there, I'm new to posting threads on the XDA forum, but I have been looking around for quite some time, reading and learning a lot. I used this forum to root my HTC One V and put custom ROMs on it. And today I used it to root my HTC One X.
My question is about using ROM Cleaner to clean my stock ROM. I saw in the ROM Cleaner thread that this is possible, and I noticed some people doing the same thing, but I don't quite understand how to do this.
So, my HOX (HTC_E11) is still pretty much completely stock (running the out-of-the-box Stock Android 4.2.2, with HTC Sense 5.0, software number: 4.18.401.2), accept for me rooting it today and flashing CWM recovery.
Now my question is:
How do I use ROM Cleaner on my stock ROM? Do I first have to go back to the stock recovery and then flash the deodexed (right?) stock ROM? Or can I just flash the deodexed stock ROM, when using the CWM recovery and then use ROM Cleaner?
Many thanks,
Felix
Just use rom cleaner over the running rom. I assume you already made a stock nandroid backup in the custom recovery ?
Ow and check the romcleaner user.txt found in the OP of the thread and edit it to your needs.
Just spoken to the proud owner of romcleaner and that is a point of attention

Thanks for the fast response!
Yes, first thing I did after flashing the custom recovery. So I don't have to download the deodexed stock ROM? Will I still be able to remove everything I don't want when ROM cleaning the odexed stock ROM?
Dont see why not, ow and if it fails you can restore the backup and start over
Hi,
ROM Cleaner will work even on stock ROM, deodexed or not.
ROM Cleaner will log all apps that have been removed and based on that log it will also remove all unused odex files if they exist.
It's strongly advised to edit your own ROMCleaner_user.txt found in download section.
Edit the txt file with notepad++ if you are using Windows. (you will find more info about this in the guide)
But it's basically add or remove "#"
# in front of an app means it will not be removed.
No # in front of an app means it will be removed.
Once done with your user.txt, create a folder in the root of your sdcard called "ROMCleaner" (case sensitive)
Then copy the user.txt to that folder. (/sdcard0/ROMCleaner/ROMCleaner_user.txt)
When you flash ROM_Cleaner_v4.0.zip in recovery the aroma welcome screen will tell you if the user.txt is in the ROMCleaner folder.
Now press "ROM Cleaner (Sense)" option. >
The rest should be easy peacy.
Good luck!

One thing, the apps I deleted via ROM Cleaner are now 'ghost' apps in my app drawer. But when I de-instal them they seem to disappear, so not a real problem (haven't rebooted yet, after de-instal).
Thank you both for your fast and very helpful responses!

That's normal when dirty flashing ROM Cleaner.
Too avoid issues like this, RC should be applied before the ROM has been booted for the first time
