I am trying to root my t-moblie mytouch 3g slide (2.1 update-1). I am following the guides from eugene373 Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702973 . I am able to get all the way to step 6. When I try to unplug the usb cable and then plug it back in, I am not able to see that it is in recovery mode. When I type in "adb devices" it still shows my device as being offline. I thought I would put this out there and see if one of the greater powers that be have run across this before. The device is showing the triangle screen at this point.
I am very appriciative of any help that anyone may have to offer on this. I am stumpped at this point.
Thank you for any help with this. I am a n00b but have a technical background. I think that what you all are doing is amazing.
have you looked at the ROM bible and nOOb FAQ in the dev section? You'll find that the method you are using is outdated.
Thank you so much that solved my problems!
Not a problem, glad we have another happy android/MT3G Slide modder

Hey guys, I tried to perma root my wife's G2 last night using Visionary+ r14 but when it tried to reboot it doesn't get past the green and white "HTC" screen, so now I have a couple of questions.
I bought this phone from someone off of Craigslist and it was working great until I tried to root it so it is technically out of warranty do you think I can get it replaced since everything is still stock?
Also I tried to apply the HTC OTA update to fix it and I still have the problem, is there anything I can do to repair this phone? Thanks in advance guys and mahalo!
Okay pull your battery out and put it back in..after dat press power button and volume down button until you get to the recovery screen and do a factory reset..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Thanks for the reply jboiii15. I did a factory reset before I flashed the OTA update and I have factory reset several times but still no go. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

I haven't tried it because I can't get ADB to work with the phone the way it is, Fastboot works but ADB just shows nothing there while I'm in recovery or the boot screen. Thank you also for the reply. My wife is pissed lol.
Try to extract the ROM from the official RUU and rename it to PC10IMG.zip. Put this on the root of your SD card and boot into bootloader and leave it to work. This should solve your problem Fingers Crossed
JD
do you have s-off??
I don't have S-OFF as I just started the rooting procedure when it decided to take a dump on me, after this I don't think my wife will want me to root any more of her phones although I know she'll miss it after having a rooted G1 running CM and a rooted Slide running Chromatic. Good thing I didn't sell her Slide yet lol.
I'll try to find information on the PC10IMG.zip method now and see what can be done.
Thank you guys for all the help, I really appreciate it all.

I think the rooting process has corrupted your kernel or rom, it is rare to get a brick from just the visionary process, but i know there has at least been one that this has happened to.
Report back to tell us if the extracted ROM worked for you, there is still hope;')

Oh man this is just getting worse lol. I had the phone sitting here plugged into my laptop while the phone was in the Hboot screen where you can select Fastboot, Recovery and so on. All of a sudden my here Windows give off the noise as if something was connected or disconnected from my computer and I see the screen shut off on the G2 with a red light blinking. Now the phone doesn't power on and the red light blinks while the phone is plugged into the computer but doesn't power on.
As I was typing this the red light came on solid as if it is charging now, maybe it doesn't charge while in that screen and the battery just died I dunno, strange.

Well I called T-Mobile and they are sending out a new phone, I'm unsure if I should still mess with it or not. I did flash the TMOUSA OTA update and that didn't help, I didn't unpack it to see if it contained a new Kernel but I'm sure it had a new system.img, still think it is one of those that is messed up?
I'm having a hard time finding the things to get the PC10IMG.zip going, work is calling me in different directions and my A.D.D is kicking in lol.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764 i had the same problem like you, steviewevie told me to do it, if you have problem to connect your g2 with sdk download pda net, it works for me and now i have my g2 back with the new root... just do what it said on that link believe me works...
P.D. I am a androidnoober always have a iphone and this was my first time using sdk adb or whatever name is and I did it
Thanks AndroidNoober, I've seen that link in my search for an answer to my problem. One of the issues that is making this harder is that after the phone "bricked" it lost ADB connectivity. I've tried it on two computers that have a properly working ADB (I test it with my N1 and 3G Slide) and it used to work with the G2 but now I can't get it to see the phone, I've heard Recovery has ADB blocked.
semi bricked attempting permaroot
i attempted permaroot and semi bricked my phone. will not boot past htc screen. i can't get adb to work. i am trying to get pdanet installed but it keeps getting stuck on installing on phone. can it install while phone is in recovery mode? i have had no sucess trying to figure this out on my own and phone is not covered with a warranty
i have gotten the phone to read an update.zip file.
it is reading the pc10img.zip as well.
now i just have to get past the htc screen.
i do have s-on as i had just started the process.
any help would be appreciated
I tried rooting my Epic 4g, someone told me it was useful and that I should. So I installed the one-click root, and eventually got the program to root it... I think... so to test it out, I tried Un-rooting it.. whereupon I find that the program says "Phone not connected" and so i try and close the program and reopen it after unplugging and plugging my phone back in. Well, my phone now is...not.
The phone is on, as the backlit keyboard still is backlit, and the touch buttons on the front touch screen are lighting up, however a red light is on the top and it has no "screen" nothing appears. I cannot turn my phone off and I cannot do ANYTHING
PLEASE HELP!!!
what is wrong with my phone and how do i fix it?!?!?!?!
a concerned poster.

after removing and reinserting the battery the phone is responsive. I would still like to root the phone? or know the status of it... please help (still)
Download connectbot from the market, open it. Where it reads ssh touch it and select local. Touch where it ask for a user name and you're keyboard will pop up. Just hit enter without typing a name.you will enter the terminal similar to a command prompt in windows. You will see a "$" type "su"and hit enter. If the $ turns into a # you got root if not, run the propper one click root again but this time under settings-applications-development select stay awake. Hope that gets you going!

First of all, welcome to XDA. I would definitely suggest checking out the following links if you are indeed new to the forums:
1. |http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=904787| Beginners manual to XDA
2. |http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700| - Samsung Epic 4G WIKI - All the info/links you need to get started.
Since it seems like you may have rooted, but aren't sure if it worked properly, I would:
1. Back up all your contacts via syncing it to your google account,
2. Download the necessary files to revert back to factory settings/rom (as if you first got your phone from sprint) |http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700#Odin_Stock_Flashing|
3. Then try to root again FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS POST TO THE TEE! |http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388|
4. If you do decide to be up to date regarding the latest advances in the Epic, try flashing different ROMs based on your experience level. I would first recommend sticking to the STOCK ROM [after rooting] until you find your way around the Development section.
Cheers and good luck!
Hi everyone,
I've been reading these boards for a while now, and THINK I know howto flash my phone now. (HTC Desire GSM)
However, I've bricked a phone before (HTC Magic) and I'm not looking forward on doing so again, so I'm taking caution ;-)
I've tried to follow this how-to:
HTC_Desire_GSM:_Full_Update_Guide
(Cannot post the URL, but it's easy to find)
But I get stuck at step 2 already! It says to use the 'unrevoked method' to root my device, which looks pretty simple, but just doesn't work for me.
If I boot in HBOOT, my PC doesn't recognize my phone in any way, also my phone doesn't display 'USB PLUG' or whatever it is that's supposed to appear.
If I connect my phone while it's turned on it DOES get recognized, but when running the unrevoked software it gives me an error after comfirming I want to run the program.
Also, I cannot install the custom USB driver, Windows just tells me the driver is already up2date.
Wonder what I'm doing wrong here..
Also, nearly every single tutorial tells me to make a NANDROID backup before I do anything. But I need to flash a custom recovery before I'm able to do so right?
Any advise or answer is greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Sjakie
Why does everyone get confused on the 'HBOOT USB' bit??
If you read the instructions you'll see that seeing HBOOT USB on the screen as an option is ONLY FOR THE EVO 4G - everyone else will see it AFTER they connect the phone to the PC
Other than that it's a driver issue so go to the unrEVOked website and follow their guide
"Also, nearly every single tutorial tells me to make a NANDROID backup before I do anything. But I need to flash a custom recovery before I'm able to do so right?"
Yep.... nandroid is part of the CW/AmonRA recovery. Essential if you ever want to roll back to a stock setup.
Hello everyone,
Here's a video I created to walk through my problems.

I'm stuck. No idea where to turn from here. I would LOVE to be able to talk to someone. I have a factory cable, but still not able to get into fastboot. I have TWRP installed and made a backup of my original Kindle software.
I"ve already tried EVERYTHING suggested and nothing has worked. I've gone to the following links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23747804&postcount=3

I've read every word and understand it to a point. I think I'd be able to work it all out of I could get to the fastboot. I'm not completely clear on all of the vocabulary and that's what's probably screwing me up.
My email address is [email protected]. If somebody could email me and I'll send my cell number and we can talk, I think I can get this up and running. I'm more than happy to pay for the service or donate to a developer of your choice. I'm just completely screwed at this point and I'm beyond frustrated now. Thanks for looking and hopefully somebody can help. -Jeff
I remember the instructions for the skorpn factory cable says to plug it into your computer first and then your device. Make sure you hold the power button for 20 seconds to shut it down first.
I just read through more information. I don't think this factory cable is even getting me into fastboot mode. What's my screen supposed to look like if it is in fastboot? I can't find any info on what that looks like.
Looked at your video you need to fix your bootloader its somehow broken your not getting to the fff screen I could be wrong but best from what I observed in your video this is the closest to your issue. Someone correct me if Im wrong but this is a job for firekit.

You're fine. I watched your video. The first time you plug it in, I think you hit the power button with your forefinger before you plugged it into your computer and the KF booted normally. When you turned it off, back on again, and then it got "stuck" on the "kindle fire" logo... that's what's supposed to happen with the factory cable. Your KF should now be in fastboot mode. Now you have to get your drivers working so that the computer sees the device properly and you'll be able to issue fastboot commands.
Look at this link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23747671&postcount=2
compare what you get in the device manager with the table in the middle of that post. You should be seeing "Android Phone -> Android Composite ADB Interface" in the list. Then it's a matter of opening up the Windows command prompt program and sending the KF some fastboot commands to have it boot into recovery. That's in one of the posts you already mentioned in the OP.
EDIT: My bad... that should be "Android Phone -> Android ADB Interface"... no "Composite" in there.
This is new...I now go to the Device Manager and it shows under the main "Martin-PC" I now have "Android Phone" with the "Android ADB Interface" nested underneath it. I don't think it's going into fastboot mode like the factory cable is supposed to do. What is it supposed to look like?
Unfortunately Jeff it is but I really wonder about your situation because your not getting to the fff bootloader but you may be getting to the stock one . So get it where your just looking at the kindle fire logo not the pissed of unicorn go to kfu shift+right click on the tools folder choose open command window here then type fastboot devices post the results here if any
Try using the fire utility and click I think #1 or boot options make sure it says the device is online. Then hit the normal boot option I think your stuck in fast boot that is what happened with me. Use a regular cable make sure you have the drivers.

The system software on his device is broken and will not boot. Setting the bootmode to normal with KFU or otherwise doesn't fix anything. That would just put him right back into the situation he's trying to get out of in the first place. He doesn't want to get out of fastboot mode the way you're suggesting, he's trying to get into fastboot as the first step in flashing a new ROM.

The OP and his followup posts show that he doesn't know if he's even in fastboot mode. Your question doesn't even make sense in this context.
Guys, this post isn't meant to chastise you for trying to help. Just don't throw out random things to people who are already flustered and confused as it is.

Did you fix your KF?
Hi XDA, this is my first post here
I Have 1 problem with my GNex GSM-version.
I bought it used, but now when i start it, it gets stuck at "Google" logo, with a lock below.
All the guides i found, require my phone to be started, and go into USB-debuging etc.
I dont want any custom rom or something else that is custom. I just want to have a functioning phone, with stock-rom.
This is the first time my phone is connected to this computer.
I use both windows 7 and OSX Lion, so feel free to hit me with whatever guide or instructions that you have available.
Check out this post and see if that'll work.
What Unlawful posted will work fine for you.
Please only one thread about the same subject. Thank you.
