[Q] US T-mobile G2 in the UK? [SOLVED] - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I looked on wikipedia at the G2 specs, and it lists
Connectivity: Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and GPRS/EDGE as well as UMTS 1700 2100 MHz, and HSPA+

I am interested in buying a T-Mobile branded G2 (unlocked of course) from the US, and need to know if it will work in the UK or not. From the specs listed there it will, but wikipedia isn't always accurate of course.
Can anyone please confirm wikipedia is right?

There was another thread about this a few days ago

Ah thanks, I didn't see that one when I tried to search.

[Q] list of bands/freqs per region

So I'm looking at GSM arena, and it says 4G Network LTE 700 (region specific) - I've googled everywhere and I can't find a list of the different versions/regions/varieties of nexus phones that are coming out. Am I just a bad googler? Or is there really no details out there showing which phone(s) sold in which countries have what bands in them?
bump. anyone's google searching better than mine is?

as far as i've seen there is only one GSM variation released so far and its an unlocked "european version". i have it and it works pretty well on tmobile.
Taking from Expansys a big retailer for this device currently shows:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/HSUPA 5.76Mbps 850/900/1900/1700/2100 / Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz / (Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent)
http://www.expansys-usa.com/google-nexus-prime-android-smartphone-unlocked-16gb-224148/
The Newegg listing for this device shows:
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
UMTS 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 MHz

Hope that helps! Definitely a great device!
OK. Was wondering if any of the variants had both GSM and some flavor of LTE in it. Thanks for the input.

No. Not yet. Or maybe never. There are several versions of nexus but as of now only two known variations concerning radio.

[Q] Is the Samsung SII T989 support HSDPA 850 ?

Hi,
I was looking fot the specs at gsmarena and it says that is HSDPA 850/1700/2100 capable, but in another sites, they said that is only 1700/2100.
Can someone confirm me that please.
Thanks.
The phone`s box states it is HSDPA 850/1700/1900/2100 capable. I know data works with At&t, so it has either 850 or 1900 HSDPA frequency but i am not sure if it has both or either one.

The Thing is that Im from Claro Dominican Republic, and is only HSDPA 850, I really need to be sure in order to buy the phone.
Thanks.
Well as long as it is on the box, we should rely on that info. You should not have any problems IMO.
it does work it's been proven already by many that has travelled to Europe on 850
actually most of the Europe is on 2100, of course it depends on the carrier but like 60% of the Europe is on 2100.

Traveling to Korea with the S 3

Hey all. I am looking to purchase a galaxy s 3. Would a t mobile galaxy work over seas or do I need an international one? Thanks.
Yes, it will work. The T-Mobile S III has quad-band GSM/EDGE/HSPA+ support.
So in that case id be better off buying one out of contract and using one of the Korean providers when I go over seas? Do you know if the international one would work?

Either version will work. Both are quad-band GSM/EDGE/HSPA+. The difference is that the T-Mobile version supports 1700 MHz HSPA+, while the international version ditches that, and supports 900 MHz HSPA+ instead.

What exactly does 1700 MHz HSPA+ and 900 MHz HSPA mean??? Everything ive found says GSM phones dont work but those were outdated by a few years. Did GSM phones just start working there recently?

You mean it's penta-band has the extra aws band and it should work in korea if they use the same bands like europe

It's not penta-band. It doesn't have 900 MHz HSPA+ support.

Those are just bands that the phones support. And GSM is a world standard, it should work in Korea, and HSPA+ should work too as it supports the 2100 MHz band.
Wifi calling is an option too.

[Q] S4 Pro radio modding?

Hi all-
just received my E970 yesterday, got it unlocked but still stock otherwise running on Rogers in Canada.
I've been reading a few threads here so far regarding rooting and the locked bootloader and some people seem to be implying that the S4 Pro chipset is an entirely software LTE radio. Does this mean that flashing a new firmware could change the LTE bands that a given phone supports?
ie: the AT&T E970 supports AWS 1700/2100 (Band 4) and 700mhz (Band 17) out of the box. Could this theoretically be loaded with software from the Rogers E971 with 2600mhz (Band 7) or the DoCoMo L-01E 2100mhz (Band 1) support? Obviously this would be baseband software not just a new OS ROM, but is it possible with the hardware or is this a non-editable function?
If anyone can provide insight or software I would be interested to test- as I am lacking the *special* 2600mhz support of the E971 here, and I do travel to HK and Japan occasionally, so support for 1800, 2100 and 2600mhz bands would be great, turning the Optimus G into a real worldphone even on LTE.

Thanks for the attitude.
I didn't say I expected to do this today, jackass. I asked if this will be technically possible as the models released appear to all have the same hardware specifications. Hopefully someone less smug, with more knowledge could provide real insight?
Sorry, should I be asking less technical, more brutally-important questions like when will Nova Launcher, or a different colour skin be available?

Just curious, where did you get your E970 from? I'm in Canada too and I would rather have the SD card slot than the extra 2600 mhz band.

:good:
That's a good question. It definitely sounds possible if you can flash the corresponding radio/modem and RIL.

[Q] Just got the 2.5GHz Unlocked M8, T-mobile compatibility?

Ordered this phone off of amazon thinking I was getting the standard unlocked version. Turns out I got the 2.5GHz Asian model. Is there anything I should be worried about in regards to T-Mobile compatibility?
Might not have AWS enabled....check for it 1700 band

No AWS and no 1900. Looks like I'm gonna have to send it back.

Are you sure it's the Asian model? Both the Asian and EMEA models can connect to 2600 MHz LTE.
The Asian model can do 700 MHz LTE (unlike the EMEA model), but T-Mobile will not begin rolling out their 700 MHz network until later this year. In any case, you'd want a model that picked up AWS so you can use T-Mobile's nationwide LTE band.

Keep in mind that AWS consists of both 1700 MHz (uplink) and 2100 MHz (downlink). If you have a carrier that has either 1700 or 2100 (but not both), the phone might detect the carrier, but wouldn't be able to use it.
