What kernel do you use for your cm 6.1.2? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What kernel are you having success with?

if you go to the cm6 rom thread it lists the kernel that is used in the rom. their thread is in the android development area

Only reason I'm favoring this over the default is because it cleared up my wifi issues

Yeah. But the issue is that then I'll need to read 1000+ pages to retrieve the kernels. I did get savage v1.6 out of it though.

unlike others', ziggy's kernels are universal i.e. they work on both sense and aosp roms - i have been running them on all my roms except cm7. ziggy has not yet made a gb kernel.

If I flash one of his kernels, do I need to wipe/reformat my SD card? I'm running MIUI, so I'm curious what I need to do and if there's any special instructions to follow. Currently, I'm running Tiamat's 2.1.5.

Can if you want, but if all you're going to do is set a screen off profile there's no need. His kernels are amazing for overclocking though.

Not only are they awesome for OCing but running a mild OC (1 notch above standard), with the min set to 128 I'm getting better battery life then the ever popular Lou's #8. YMMV
I'll try out the new ones here soon, I"m running the one form 1/22 I think.
Ziggys kernels never worked well on my DINC, but these latest ones are SWEET. Noticeably snappier than Lous #8.

kernel for CM7 that is nohavs and nosbc?

I searched around with no luck. Has anyone seen a kernel for CM7 that is nohavs and nosbc? Does such an animal exist?

The stock kernel? I know what you're asking!! Just messing with you!
I haven't seen anything for aosp that is no havs, but plenty without sbc. Check out what savaged zen is doing now, very interesting. I'm very happy with the deck rom I am using now with the sz kernel, but I am keeping an eye on their rom.

I think it has alot to do with your hardware and rom/kernel combo. I'm on hardware 004. Currently running Xplod 2.1.3 with SavagedZen 2.2.1 cfs havs+ sbc. Great battery life and the phone is incredibly snappy. Funny thing, when I run the Savagedzen aosp rom I have better results with tiamat... Go figure.
Best thing I could tell you for advice is try alot of different rom/kernel combos and see what works best for you and your hardware. Remember to always give a new combo a day or two to "settle in", as they always seem to level out.
Anyways thats my .02, hope I helped. Good luck to you and happy flashing!

I'm using CM7 and just switched to Savaged Zen. I also downloaded the apk to toggle the SBC feature off. I have to say that being able to toggle the SBC off made the Savaged Zen kernel my new #1 kernel. My launcher no longer redraws and my battery lasts longer than it ever has with any other kernel. Savaged Zen gets my vote.

The SVZ Manager comes with a toggle switch so you can switch SBC on and off whenever you want. It also has an option to maintain your desired setting whenever the phone reboots. I just have SBC turned off all the time and dont have to worry about resetting my choice each time the phone reboots.

I use UOT Kitchen to modify a number of different things within the ROM such as notification icons, notification bar style and color, overscroll, boot animation, etc. I've included the zip file I used to get my Evo to look exactly the way it does in the picture below. Just put zip file in root folder, boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, flash uot zip file, boot into android and open up Theme Chooser, select UOT theme, click Apply, and enjoy. However, you can go to http://uot.dakra.lt/how_to/ to see how to customize one however you want. The possibilities are endless.
Remember, as with any flashable material you use the file at your own risk.
Here are some images of the other things my zip file below modifies.

[Q] Kernel solutions?

I'm currently running Aeroevan's CM 9.0.0-RC0-Inc2-KANG, that's packaged with kernel version [email protected] My question is, are there any kernels out that will be compatible with this ROM? I tried a couple of Evan's releases but they all bonked out on me, giving me a black (backlit) screen. I'd like more control with my kernel, governors and the like.

I have a feeling that we will see more options included for oc/uv in his next release. Kinda think the 1-1-12 rom was just for him to get a perfect base going, now that it's out of the way I'm optimistic that he will start doing his tweaks and bug fixes.
As for different kernel options, pretty sure their are none available, actually I think that the only one building kernels for Inc2 ICS besides the stock CM9 kernel is Aeroevan.
Okay so if I'm stuck on this kernel for a minute, what would the best governor to use? Currently on demand.

Since there's no smartassV2 and no undervolting I would say yeah, that's what I'm using and the battery life isn't bad. Can't wait till he adds smartass and uv though, I was getting almost 2 days off my battery on Protekks christmas beta with smartassV2 and uv -25 across the board.

Your answer:
Each phone hardware, app setup and battery longevity is different. Try them all out and see which fits your needs best.
You received that reply from Uber because this has been asked time and time again and it's the same answer. All it took was some time on your part to read through the general and q&a forums to find these threads a few pages back.
Good luck finding your ideal ROM and kernel.

absolute best battery life? Go back to 2.1 with schizopunk's Epic ROM combined with the Pheonix kernel. That was some sick battery life. My best was over 3 days off the charger (no airplane mode shenannigans). Of course you'd have to be on crappy old eclair to get those, but all you asked for was best battery life
