[Q] Folders in main menu - Bada Software and Hacking General

Is there a way, or some hacking there , that can enable Wave to create folders in the main menu so we can put apps in them? Similar to the iPhone.
That would be very useful

Agree with U.

It's not possible, today Bada does not permit that.

Custom Folder Icons

Hi, I'm looking for a way to customise the icons for folders created on the Home screen. I realise that we can change the png files but that would change all folders, what I want is to be able to customise each folder I create separately.
Currently I'm using Apps Organizer to do this and while it works well it is slow to load the shortcuts inside.
I don't want to run a home replacement so does anyone know of a simple and effective solution to allow custom icons for each folder? (I think this is something that Android should have by default)
Is that a no then?
thats an option i would be glad to have in my device!
please suggest it to irrenhaus to aplly it in his AdvancedLauncher
in this thread

I will think about this, it shouldn't be much work . But no promises yet
That's great to hear, it seems like a pretty basic function to me and I can't see why Android doesn't just support it to begin with. I hope you manage to conjure something, it will be much appreciated by many people I think

How to delete HTC Scenes?

This might be a silly question, but how can you delete a scene? I haven't managed to yet, and there are several scenes that I don't use anymore and they just clutter up the scene selector. There must be a way, surely?

Deleting scenes
There are two types of scenes on my HTC incredible from Verizon: Scenes that the user created and the built-in scenes (Verizon Scene, HTC, Social, Work, Play, Travel, and Clean Slate)
Deleting the user defined scenes is fairly straightforward, although it's non-intuitive. Go to: Menu->Settings->Personalize->scenes. Long press on the scene to be deleted and a pop-up menu comes up asking to Rename or Delete. That's pretty easy.
Deleting the built-in, pre-loaded scenes is more work, but I discovered yesterday how to do it, so I wanted to share that here. There may be other ways to achieve the same end, but I'll show how I did it. Note, that you must have root permissions to do this, and if you break something, it's not my fault.
All of the scenes are stored in a SQLite database in /data/data/com.htc.launcher.databases/. The database is launcher.db. I used Root Exploer to go to /data/data/com.htc.launcher and copy the databases folder first for backup purposes. Then I used SQLite Editor to edit the launcher.db database file. There are 6 tables in the database:
android_metadata
favorites
favorites_backup
widget_item_types
widget_workspaces
widget_workspaces_backup
The table to edit is widget_workspaces. It'll have a list of all of the scenes, both user defined and built in. Long press on each scene to delete and a pop-up menu will be shown. Click Delete Record to remove the scene. The phone must be rebooted for the change to take effect. I removed all of the built-in scenes successfully with-out seeing any ill-effects from the change. Now, the only scenes on the phone are the ones I want and not the ones the verizon/htc want me to have.

Making sense of Start menu, Programs, Apps et al

I have been following XDA-Developers since the days of the SX66 (Blue Angel), and have enjoyed many ROMs and improvements that came along. But there seems to be a new paradigm now, with the whole 3D/HD capabilities, and I am getting lost in the jungle of terms, capabilities, nuances, et cetera.
I am trying to make sense of the application manager, start menu, programs - whatever the correct term is - for the Tilt2 with standard AT&T shipped ROM. I have added a few applications - some that are quite new and some that I've carried with me since the days of the early IPAQs (remember those?). But I'm lost when it comes to putting these programs in a place where I can find them, and using a good tool that will manage them. (I don't presently want to put on a new ROM until I figure out for myself what my needs are.)
For example, I installed Pocket Putty - the one intended for WM6.x. It works great! But I always have to search for it... and cannot seem to add it to any of the menus involved. I go to the Programs tab... I press + to add.. and it's not in the list of programs available. So I press the Start menu and I get a list - a different list - of programs available. Not there either. I have to either search for it or open it with Total Commander or other file tool. Why are these three separate lists? That is no less than three separate/distinct program lists, and they don't seem to interrelate. How can I properly manage/synchronize them, and what do I need to do to make programs appear in these lists?
I understand there's something called Sense and something called Manila involved. I don't really want to spend the rest of my life reading about these technologies before I get the chance to use them, but I do want to understand them well enough that I know what needs to be manipulated in order to accomplish some task.
Am I forever lost? Or is there a crash course? Or something else?
Lost in the jungle
Make a shorcut of the program with total commander. Place the shortcut in your start menu >> programs. This way the program will show up in your start menu and you can add them in the programs tab.
And I thought that every program that shows up in your programs tab is somewhere to be found in your start menu . Those two are linked if I am not mistaking.

That's certainly what I expected, too. But no. So experimenting with Pocket Putty as my example: I created the shortcut on \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. I renamed the shortcut from "htc-pocketputty.lnk" to "Pocket Putty.lnk". Now I have been able to add it to my Programs tab (THANK YOU for that!). But it is not in the Start Menu. There are plenty of mismatches like that. For example, the Windows Mobile folder is visible in Start Menu, not available as an app in Programs tab (I'd rather do that and use up about 4 less buttons). MSN Weather shows up in Add Programs but not on Start Menu. Et cetera.

[Q] How can I add apps to the multiview?

I'd like to put a few others to use.
No EDIT button in Multi-View

I have the same question. multi-view is installed and fine. On some videos and images there appears an EDIT button which I don't seem to have. I have tried dragging apps off the multi-view bar to create new spaces but so far no success . I also cant see a settings menu or function...
My aim is to be able to access my folders while writing e-mail.
Simon.
At the moment this has only been programmed to allow a limited number of apps, a list of which can be found in a sticky thread in the 'general' forum here on xda-Note2
We believe we might have found a way to hack this feature to allow for more apps to be added but this is yet to be tested and perfected.
You would need root and/or a custom rom to allow this, if and when we do manage to 'fix' it.

[GUIDE]Accessing Metro Apps Folder

How To Access The Metro Apps Folder
Windows 8 introduces a new type of apps called metro apps or modern apps. These apps can be installed with a tap from the windows store. This system works out great for the average consumer but its a nuisance for power users. And since most of the xda devs are power users I decided to write this guide to accessing the metro apps. The metro apps are installed in C/Program Files?Windowsapps/ This folder is hidden and locked away to prevent users from modding the apps. However there is a way to access the folder which I am going to describe in detail here. This procedure is really simple and there is absolutely no need to go into the command line like how I read in some other tuts I found on the web.
STEP 1
The Windowsapps folder is a hidden folder so first of all you will need to go to the control panel and display it in small icons view. Then go to folder options and tick the option that says show hidden files, folders and drives. After doing this click apply and ok and exit. Now when you navigate to c program files, you should be able to see a folder named windowsapps. It will appear in white.
STEP 2
Now double click on the folder. It will not open.Instead, you will get a warning saying that you currently don't have access to this folder.Click continue.Another warning will pop up saying that permission to open the folder has been denied.Click on the security Tab Link.
STEP 3
In the security tab, click on continue.A box will open which will list all the permission holders of the windowsapps folder. It will display TrustedInstaller as the owner.Click Change.A box will open up.Change The Owner to your name and click check names, correct it if you have written the wrong name.Click Ok.The permission will be changed.Check replace owner on subcontainers and objects too.
STEP 4
Now you will need to restart windows explorer for the changes to be effective. Now,you have complete access to the windowsapps folder.:victory:
USES
Now that you have got access to the folder,There are a great many things you can do..Ill list some of them to increase productivity.
1.Delete Preinstalled Useless Apps
2.Read the Source Code
3.Modify/Play around with the apps
etc etc
Enjoy Guys....Hope I helped.......
This has been posted here since at least the Win8 RTM, possibly before. Please search before posting. Also, I would expect a "power user" to already have "Show hidden files and folders" enabled and to be familiar with NT and NTFS permissions systems. Oh, and getting to Folder Options is way simpler than going through Control Panel; you can either open it right from the Explorer ribbon (View -> Options) or just via Start search.
Also, be aware that "Metro" is not the actual name of the interface anymore (officially); some metro transit agency apparently raised a legal fuss over it. The new name is (in classic Microsoft branding failure style) "Windows Store apps" although you'll occasionally hear "modern" used too. When I'm feeling snarky (at least 70% of the time I'm on this site) I call it TIFKAM (The Interface Formerly Known As Metro).
modifying metro app
i modified the code in one of my app's java script files, but it does not affect the app itself... just to check i even made the whole code a comment (with /*....*/) and still the app ran normally... why?
in the other hand if i touch the .css code or the html code the app crushes, even if i only want to change the color code.... why?
i will be thankful if someone could answer these two questions for me, it will help me alot....
thanks in advance
Pinto
