browser copy and paste help - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok when I was running dk28 I was able to long press anywhere I wanted to and dragged and hit copy when I was done with whatever it was I was copying. Now that I went to di18 it seem very limited borderline useless long pressing don't work going into menu and hitting select text is pointless because the second I lift my finger it copies before I can finish scrolling down on the screen. I also tried the shift key and dragging method on the slide out keybord that was a waste too. So what gives. Is there an app that will make copy and paste easier in the browser running di18?
I could always go back to dk28 but I just can't stand that whole checkboard effect anymore

Orbit, first xda, some basic Q's

I've done some searching around but I haven't found answers to some specific questions I have. I'd appreciate if someone could take the time to enlighten me. I gather there will be quite a few new Orbit users looking in here in the near future and it might help them too.
1. My first concern, is how could I do a complete restore to factory settings if my windows install becomes corrupt? Is there a way of backing up the phone before I put too much stuff on it, and restoring all the windows files afterwards?
2. When I hit the X button in the corner of the screen it minimises that window but doesn't close the app. Is there a way to force this button to close the app completely, or add another button for closing apps?
3. In file explorer I can list a load of MP3's I have put on the card, but because they are named with the album name first, the name of each track is cut off by the Date and Size column. Is there any way of editing the listing format, or forcing it to scroll so I can read the track names? Perhaps a TweakUI-type program?
4. I'm familiar with registry editing via regedit and regedit32. I see reference to editing registries on the Xda's, what program is most commonly used, I can't find an editor on the phone.
That's about allI can think of for now I'm sure I'll come up with some more questions later.
Thx, Pete.
1. You are talking about a hard reset. On the orbit, hold down both softkeys, then with the stylus push into the tiny hole (reset button) on the left hand side, and release whilst still holding down the two soft keys. The screen will switch off and after a short while, writing will come up on the screen asking do you want to hard reset, you will loose all your data.... blah blah blah. You need to press the green send key (answer button) and it will restore everything back to factory state, i.e. the same state as if you turned it on for the 1st time. Your personal data will be lost, but you should back that up to a external memory card. There is no need to backup any windows files etc, a hard reset will always put it back to out of the box state.
2. I personally don't worry to much about closing the applications, but there are many freeware apps that will make the x button actually close the application instead of minimising it. I think Smartkey is one of them. Alternatively, the O2 software has something on the tray which if you click, it will show you all the running applications and allows you to close all or any one of them.
3. Sorry. Don't know, don't use mine for mp3s.
4. Again, there are freeware apps available Total commander is one of them. I use Resco Registry Editor although you have to pay for that.

[Q] browser back button

Is there any way to navigate backwards in the browser when you just entered it from the homescreen. The back button simply kicks you out of the browser and puts you back on the homescreen.
No, when this happens you have to go through history. It is annoying but not half as annoying as not being able to return to a previous app after browsing for a while.
MS certainly need to do something about it - like long press back to skip this app's history. Also, the idea that when you launch an app from the start screen it should just restart instead of resuming (this is what IE demonstrates) is totally perverted without fast switching between apps. Wait till we get copy and paste - that's when the pain will come in.

MTPBLIB

I am not sure if this has been mentioned before but...
I loaded up SPST and renamed a file to something.ecn and tried flashing this file to the phone. I chickened out and unplugged it before it transferred the file but I did notice that the bottom of the screen said "Initializing MTPBLIB".
I also no that there are other key shortcuts. I am not sure what they are because I was pushing random buttons but I do know that certain combinations will increase the volume and open the camera. One other interesting combination that I did was holding the "D" key and pressing a bunch of random keys quickly with my other hand, the phone began to say "Uploading logs...". I am not sure what this was but the only way to stop it was to turn it off. I also let it finish once but not sure what it did.
Just as i said, MTP (lib) support.
Also, one option not standard, as it has a "B" in the name,so... that's it.
Of course, there should be a lot more shortcuts while the mobile is On, they just didnt tell us what they are.

Home button take me to the left most desktop.

Im using the CM7 rom, and my phone is rooted with S-OFF. If I push the home button while inside an application if takes me back to the previous desktop, which often is the central one. However if I push the home screen while for example on the right most desktop view, it does not centralize it but take me to the left most desktop. Is there any settings in this rom where I can set what is my "homescreen"?
Regards and thanks,
Cerunnir

Go Launcher help - screen shifting and contact

There appears to be NO means to contact the go launcher folks (just spent 30 minutes trying gave up)
anyway LOVE go launcher. problem is the main desktop has 5 screens you can swipe/slide whatever between.
the MIDDLE one is primary. you then have 2 left and 2 right.
for some reason I keep ENDING UP at the far right screen which is very annoying cause I then have to swipe left twice to get back to my main screen.
it seems totally random I will turn on the phone and I am on the extreme right screen.
I also notice if I press home I go home but if I press home a SECOND time it ALSO takes me to the far right screen.
anyway to change/stop this from happening?
Strange... I've been using GO launcher for some time and never had an issue like that. Bad install, maybe?
Not sure. Just installed calkins rom. installed go clean instead of from backup.
will see if it happens again. VERY annoying. SO FAR so good. in fact now home does just what it SHOULD do.
takes me to the center screen and if I hit it twice GOES to center screen if not on center screen.
hopefully it was just a hinky install.
alas like an idiot I did not backup my contacts so the 4 hours I spend attaching pictures and correct numbers and entries in my contacts. all that work POOF. what a moron.
also all my circle launcher backups I carefully made are GONE. I had assumed they were saved to SD but apparently not. what is the point of backups if they go away with the program ???
U can change ur home screen by going into preview and clicking on the home button

Don't want to change the home screen. I want to stop it from moving around
it appears it was a "bad install" or something corrupt.
I installed calkins rom today and clean installed a fresh download of go launcher ex and so far its been PERFECT.
and in fact home works as it should double tapping it takes me to the "center" home screen.
so must have just been a goofy install or a corrupt file or something.
my reply stands ur home screen was not set as the middle screen but the far right one that's why it always went to it and u had to scroll to the left

You know I was about to make a snarky reply of ok smart a$$ you show me the setting. I have been through the settings and there IS NO SETTING for such a function.
and I would have kind of been right. there is a flat out hidden in plain site setting for it I happened upon by accident.
a screen I have NEVER seen before. in fact first time I saw it I had no clue how I did or or how to make it do it again.
after some experimentation I found out if I "swipe up" (something I usually have assigned to a function but had no done so yet on this install) this NEW window appeared that I never saw before.
it have all 5 of my "screens" displayed in miniature and the home screen was "green" but I was not ON the home screen (only reason it stood out to me otherwise I would have ignored it)
and then it hits me. I bet whichever one is "green" is the one it defaults too. sure enough if I touch the house on one of the other "screens" IT became green.
sure enough it was the "default" now.
I have no idea how it got changed (maybe when I was reaching in my pocket or something??? because i had never seen that screen before and I can find NO means to "invoke" that screen THOUGH hold on that give me an idea.
HAHAHA sure enough if I goto "EDIT" from the soft menu it brings up the same miniature window display. I had never bothered with THAT either
Just assumed it was to EDIT the "dock bar" which I had no desire to do.
so I must have gotten into that screen at some point and changed the "default" and never even knew it
how funny. of course I canceled the aggravated post and waited till I got home (now) to reply. Just found out "edit" did it right now too
I guess I misunderstood your original post. It sounded like you had been able to get to your intended home screen with one click, but a second click was sending you elsewhere. Sorry, guess I overthought it.
thats what it was doing.
many times it was at right screen (boot up wake up etc..)
sometimes it would take to home but hitting again would goto right screen.
I am almost certain I somehow "changed" the default screen as "home" without knowing it.
when I do it on purpose now it behaves exactly the same way it seems.
at least its fixed now and if it does it again I know whats wrong
