[Q] I simply cant root my phone - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i hope these numbers can help u guys in helping me, cause i cant figure out what im doing wrong, my usb drivers must be right because unrevoked can see it, and ive turned usb-debugging on as well.
I finally got convinced to root my phone and now i cant figure it out, great
finally unrevoked did something, it rebooted my phone and everything, but after it reboots, unrevoked says it failed and says "Firmware too new?"

On the HTC Desire, there is no HBOOT_USB option, it automatically turns into HBOOT USB mode when the phone is connected to a PC via the USB cable.. So, right beneath that information you posted, you should see something like "HBOOT USB Plug" written. If it says "FASTBOOT" (in red) instead, then choose the "BOOTLOADER" option in the list below and that will take you to the HBOOT.
Also, try factory resetting the phone to fix that "Firmware is too new" error, it worked for me.
How to factory reset: Menu > Settings > SD & Storage > Factory data reset

Also, if you read the unrEVOked instructions on their site it does say before 'FOR EVO 4G'

[Q] Htc Desire Stuck at Htc Screen!

I recently followed the unrevoked guide to root my phone and put on the clockworkmod custom recovery image. On the second step, Unrevoked said 'waiting for phone reboot' but the phone got stuck in the white HTC screen. I can boot into HBOOT but not recovery mode, the phone gets stuck in the white HTC screen everytime I try. Anyone know where i go from here to trouble shoot this/reset the device.
Happened to me too when i tried to root. Just root it again with unrevoked and it should be fixed.
I cant ... Unrevoked says 'Waiting for device. Plug phone in now and enble USB debugging. Make sure HTC sync is *not* installed ! ... (its plugged to the phone while the phone is stuck on the white HTC screen)
Bump! ..
Try flashing an official RUU ROM.
You can find a list of ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
I've similar problem. I think I can not use unrevoked because it need to enable debugging mode but my system is stuck at htc logo screen so I can not do that.
I can go to bootloader and here is the information on it.

the problem started after volume down key and touch ball stopped working and some update was installed.
I can not go to recovery mode as it will just reboot for ever when I chose it from HBoot. I tried to root again but I get
Code:
FAILED (remote: 43 main version check fail)
at some point. The phone is unbranded

Sent from CM7
no i dint root . can i root phone in this condotion? if possible please can u tell me the way?
you can root in hboot screen.
and root tools ,I suggest unrevoked 3.21 (root tools included clockworkmod 2.5.x recovery) .
good luck man.
You can't flash roms without rooting. Download this and if your on Windows, download the drivers too and also read the page so the drivers install properly. After you have done all of that, run the utility. Please be aware that issues may arrise when your done and no one but yourself takes responsibility what happens, but nontheless, it should be fine.
When your done rooting, go into the recovery and go to backup and restore > backup and it will backup the whole phone. Keep this just in case. It will go on your SD Card > clockworkmod/backup.
my phone is connected in HBOOT but unrevoked say connect phone in usb debugging mode now how can i connect in debuging while phone can only enter in HBOOT
I have the exact same problem, I applied the f***** HTC update and the phone never started afterwards. Just the HTC logo then reboots.
I will try to root the phone as suggested by Meaple and kosterz and will let you know how it turns.

A: This is normal and can be recovered. Follow the instructions below to reset your Android phone and to establish a connection with the PC.
1. Disconnect your Android phone from the USB cable.
2. Reset your Android phone (Remove and reinstall the battery).
3. Reconnect your Android Phone to the USB cable.

5. Return to the ROM Update Utility.

[Q] Stock Gingerbread Update results in Bootloop

Hi there!
Maybe this question was asked 100 times but I really searched and searched but dont found any solution for my problem.
I got a HTC Desire with stock froyo on it - no root - no CFW - just stock.
Phone sometimes doesnt boot. Just come to green HTC logo 1x vibrate and reboot. If this happens I pulled out the battery leave it alone for a hour pulled it back and it boots fine.
Because of this error I tried to fix it with latest dev update to gingerbread. Install went fine - succesful - reboot...
Since then im not able to acces the OS. It ALWAYS stucks at green HTC vibrate on time and reboot.
Damned. Tried to flash again via RUU - same ****. Tried to flash via SD - same ****.
I have acces to Hboot and fastboot but i think this doesnt help me anyway.
So please - if anyone has a solution how to fix my bootcycle problem - give me a hint.
---EDIT---
I dont know how but i have succesfully boot into GB. Immediatly I used revolutionary to get S-OFF. Done.
Now Phone looks like it boots normally. Strange thing if I enable WIFI and connect to some network it reboot and is not able to boot again. Always reboot at Welcome screen. Battery out - wait some time - battery in - booting - extremly fast disable wifi and it works normally.
SO... is my WIFI bricked? Is anything known about that matter. If yes - are there solutions???
Thanks
CRC
really - no one can help me
damned i think my desire has a heating problem. everytime i do something little bit intesiver work - like syncing, or inet surfing - my desire does a restart and could only be reachable after 20 min without plugged in battery.
strange
Throughout reading your problems, I immediately thought it was a hardware issue. Talk to HTC and see what they say.
Punched in..
oke i allready thought about something like that
just wanted it to confirm by someone else...
thank u

Hi all,
I have a rooted HTC Desire that is stuck in a bootloop. It gets to the HTC screen and that’s it. I tried to upgrade from a cyanogen MOD 7 to gingerbread 2.3 with the RUU I got from the HTC DEV site. Well actually the upgrade looked to be succesfull but when my phone rebooted I got this bootloop.
So now I tried to do a recovery but I only get the “apply update from sdcard” instead of “apply sdcard:update.zip”. When I try to do this update I get a “invalid operation” and the phone reboots. I also did a wipe of the cache and data.
When I try and connect with usb I can only see a driver being loaded after I switch to fastboot.
I tried “adb devices” but no device is seen. When I do the “fastboot devices” I get a serial.
I also tried the Revolutionary software to S-OFF but again I get the “waiting for device”. I tried with the HTC sync drivers, bootloader drivers with several laptops and pc’s.

I also tried with an other sdcard from a working Desire but I cannot get on the sdcard.
I tried to “mount” the sdcard again with 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' but no luck.
Please ask if more info is needed.

Can't root a RUU Bravo version 2.10.751.4

Hi,
Let me start with my device info.

Current image version
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Chunghwa Taiwan carriers (version: 2.10.751.4)
I'm running Windows Vista x86
That's all I got.
Now, the problem.
Everytime I turn the device on, it get stuck at the White HTC Windows and vibrates several times, I think this is a pretty common problem, so I won't stress this issue too much.
The solutions that I found are.
As my device is S-ON my options are limited. I can't boot recovery, so..
I download the latest RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2_29_405_5_Radio_32_49_00_32U_5_11_05_27_release_159811_signed_2
Now, I run the ruu until ask to connect, I connect my device, the ruu recognize and identify my device, it ask to update, everything good. Updating process start and suddenly stops and tells me, "error 131, customer id error"
and that I need to use the right RUU utility.?
So I decided to avoid the USB connection and try to flash it directly from the SDCARD, I extracted the rom.zip from the above file, change the name to PB99IMG.ZIP, put it on my device, volume + power, but nothing.
so thinking that something is missing, I select fast boot, the device shows some text in green, even shows the PB99IMG.ZIP file, and is back to the bootloader screen and nothing happens.
What else can I do to bring to life my device, if I choose recovery with the PB99IMG file in the sdcard, the device shows a black screen with a red triangle.
I think is something with that taiwanes RUU, but maybe not.
Could any one please put me in the right direction
Thanks in advance
Sovius

Can you boot into fastboot? Using revolutionary.io will give you S-OFF and then you can flash a recovery - since you are PVT4, then AmonRa or newest CWM recommended.
You need a goldcard to RUU with that RUU. Download the 2.3.3 RUU from htcdev.com. this should resolve the Id issue.

Thanks for you replays
This is what happen now.

In tried to S-Off with Revolutionary, I remove HTC Sync and install the drivers required. > Back + Power > the device is in fastboot screen > connect the USB cable and the device seems to be recognized by the computer but no notification of that is given, except for a beep (like when you plug a USB flashdrive) but no letter is assign to the device or anything. > I double click revolutionary and the program said "waiting for device", I left it for 30min, but nothing.
As I cannot get inside the device, the problem might be that revolutionary requires my device to have "USB debugging on" I don't know if is on or not.
rootSU
How do I create a Gold Card, if I can't get inside the device to set everything up?. Can I use another Gold card or they are exclusive of each device.?.
Your recommendation are Welcome, Please let me know if you need anything from me to have a much clear understanding about what's going on.
I'll make a video to show you exactly what happening and what I'm doing
Cheers

[Q] a problem met during "the easiest root method"

Hi,
I have a plain HTC Desire, and I am trying to root it.
My software information is:
Android version 2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c
Softeare number: 2.29.405.5
I am following the guide found here on xda, called:
"The easiest root method of all is(works for any Desire!):
[GUIDE] One Click How to Root the GSM & CDMA Desire with Unrevoked 3.21"
I met the following problem:
I turn off your phone, then boot it into the HBOOT menu by holding power and volume down. Here, I do not have an option called HBOOT USB.
I connect the phone to the computer (with OS Windows 7) and the HBOOT USB option suddenly appears in the phones HBOOT menu.
So I do as it says in the guide: I use the unrevoked modified usb driver and I refresh the driver in device manager. This works and the Android Bootloader Interface is listed under Android Phone.
However, when I reboot the phone in order to proceed to the running of Unrevoked 3 reflash package, the phone is no longer recognized by the device manager. Device manager now sees the phone as "Other devices/ADB", and I cannot "refresh the driver" as did before.
HTC Sync or other interfering problems are not installed.
The phone is set to charge only and usb debugging is allowed.
The unrevoked 3 reflash does not recognize my phone and is in waiting status, nothing happens.
If I enter the phones boot menu again, the device manager recognizes the phone, but unrevoked 3 reflash still does not.
So now I am stuck.
Can someone help?
Thanks a lot.
Agoston
Please give the information from your hboot. Maybe you can use revolutionary.io which would give you S-OFF plus root in two simple steps.

Perfect, you can use revolutionary:

Please read documentarypage very carefully before using!
It worked. Thanks a lot for the quick help.
