framework-res.zip
Warning: This is made for the ATT stock rom. It may work on the Rogers rom as well. It may not work on a custom rom, if possible you should find the framework-res.apk specific to your rom, ask the rom creator to make one, or make your own using the guide and resources listed above. To be safe, always make a backup using CWM before installing ANY mod. It only takes a few minutes and can save you hours in the long run.
Disclaimer: Use at your own risk I'm not responsible if you brick your phone, yadda yadda. I have only tested this on an ATT 2.3.6 stock rom with ardatdat kernel. So far it seems to work great and looks awesome. There is a weird effect that if the screen is off and I push the power in for just the perfect number of milliseconds, the screen starts to turn on and then turns itself off again. But I have difficulty trying to get this to happen on purpose so I doubt it will prove much of an issue. It's probably just a quirk of having the CRT animation enabled. Anyway, all of that said,
Enjoy!
UPDATE:
Here are the uninstall files for the ATT 2.3.6 stock rom. All warning and disclaimers above also apply to these so always make a CWM backup first.
Here is the uninstall zip for CWM (reinstalls stock file) - automatic uninstall

Really? Well, where the heck did ya post it? I searched through the dev and general forum before I made this one. I found a couple request/discussion threads but no attachments that appeared to be confirmed working. Trust me, I'm lazy, I wouldn't have made it otherwise.
And yeah, I know it's old news but it still amuses me.
Edit: Ah, yes! The broken link! I do remember now. I guess I should have asked you to repost it first!

Ah well that kind of explains it. I was looking for a thread specific to CRT animation. I did suspect that some of the custom roms would already have it enabled but I wanted to give the stock run a good run for the money before trying any custom roms. Also, having the info in the middle of a custom rom thread doesn't make it very accessible. This thread was geared more towards people with stock roms who wanted an easy, confirmed way of enabling the animation.
Also, I have all signatures turned off in this forum because so many of them were large and intrusive that they were really hurting the readability (imo) of the site.

FYI, this particular mod was not taken from his rom. It was created from the framework-res.apk in my own stock ATT rom and altered using the guide and resources mentioned in the first thread. So while he gets credit for doing it first, none of his work was used in the creation of this mod. (Edit: That I know of. Apologies if I'm mistaken. I'm not trying to rip off anyone's work or belittle anyone's contributions.)
It's fantastic, thanks man.

Didn´t worked for me and now the power button just don´t work anymore. Any hints to uninstall it? I flashed the zip. Ozimood Rom.
Um, reflash? See here for CRT made by dman (confirmed working)
Flashed dman crt but i think my system was corrupted, stucked on bootloop. Done recovery now i´ll try dman.
Sorry about that, this is made specifically for the stock rom. If you have custom rom, you should get the framework-res.apk specific to that rom, as the rom creator may have made other changes as well. I'll edit the first post to make it more clear that this is for the stock rom.
Restored Osimood and flashed crt.zip... no luck.
All the install zip does is copy that one file to your system directory. I think it's absolutely impossible to hard brick from that. Don't you have a CWM backup you can restore?

Damn. I was going to mention this but I was waiting to get enough posts to post in this forum. xD
Neither of the CRT On or CRT Off links work on this end.
So thanks a ton transce080. ^_^
Could you possibly add a CRT On as well? I know there's a guide in the Captivate Glide thread that Aquethys linked to but it'd be nice to have just have a flashable method.

So we finally have a method to change our boot animations without using the very expensive program to create QMG files.
I am going to give you an E4GT specific tutorial that I have come up with because this method was created and used for the Note II.
Thank you to smokin1337 for posting the Note II version HERE
"Update: As pointed out in the comments, this was also accomplished by XDA Senior Member anbech in his thread originally aimed at the SGS3."
SGS3 Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Here we go!!!
ROOT is required.
1. Add bootanimation.zip of your choice to /system/media
2. Flash Bootanimation4U.zip in recovery of your choice other than stock.
Flash Gears-Bootanim.zip in recovery of choice(other than stock) for generic boot animation. Will also fix a bug of a non working boot animation causing a completely black screen. Even after boot. Just flash this and it will fix your problem.
Those two files are attached.
If you want sound add an ogg file named PowerOn.ogg to /system/media/audio/ui, if sound doesn't work be sure /system/bin/samsungpowersoundplay exists if its there it will play sound if not its not included in your rom download it HERE then put it where it belongs and fix the perms which should be rwxr-xr-x
Reboot...Enjoy
Some custom boot animations
Kick Ace Boot Animations
12MaNy's Boot animations
You can also use Rom Toolbox found in the market to change your boot animations to any that they have on their server. Some may not work but most do. Don't worry if it doesn't work, your phone will still boot fine. I will go over how to make RTB animations work correctly.
Flash bootanimation4u.zip in recovery
Grab ROM Toolbox from the market. There is a lite version that is free and a Pro version that is $4.99. I highly suggest getting the pro version.
Next you will scroll over into the 'Interface section of RTB and go down to boot animations.
That will load up all of the available animations to install.
Next you will press the menu softkey and a menu will pop up.
Hit the second option for the 'Install Location'.
Change it to "/system/media/" (No quotes) Also do not change the file name.
After that you can install any normal boot animation.
If you want to install Tablet animations you will need to...
Download it first. Do not install.
Click it and select "Resize"
Change the width to 480
Change the height to 800
Make sure the FPS is at 30
Hit ok and then install it as normal
Reboot to view it.
(If you get a black screen with no animation try changing the FPS to 20 if that doesn't work, then the animation most likely wont work, but feel free to try a different FPS)
Thanks for reading guys and I hope I helped some of you new guys and veterans bring more customization to your phone.
 :highfive:
This is awesome. Thank you for this. Can't wait to finally have custom boot animation back.

getting black screen is usually caused by bad desc.txt file, or the bootanimation.zip file being compressed..
if getting black screen, try remake the desc.txt file with notepad++, and/or try extract the bootanimation.zip file, then add the desc.txt file and the including part-folders into a new bootanimation.zip file with no compression...
just my 2cents
cheers

I no that you have to get an app in the market or 4 shared to turn the file into an ogg file some kind of file converter. Then get root explorer go to system/ media/ui open, then paste the ogg file in here choose the power_down.ogg move the original file some where safe, then the ogg file you converted name it like the one you are taking out /reboot n you should have what your looking for?

As far as not animations, download rom manager and scroll over to interface and you can download a ton of cool ones... I haven't seen any sound ones, but i have 30+ boot animations on my sd card that i can select from... You can always add the animations to the randomizer in rom manager in the pro version and it will boot a different one each time you boot the phone up... I can do box a few animations and rom manager pro if you need...

Nice Job my friend always good to have a backup stock Rom Thanks for sharing.:good:
thanks bud
Thanks for making a separate thread for this, it's helpful. It should be known that enewman17 has the completely stock rom with root available in his thread as well as that used to be the purpose of his thread before creating his own custom rom in both odexed and de-odexed forms. For those who want the odexed form, please head to his thread. It's probably best to have this thread here separate though as it is easier to find for those who need it.
I searched before posting...I swear!
Also, for everyone I have a bunch of mods posted I'm my thread for use with the stock ROM.
It it's a good idea to have this posted separate, mine are hard to find.

Thanks for saying something. The Goo file is wrong.
I just checked the MD5 with a utility and the Dev Host file is correct.
I have experienced several problem with files from Goo recently. This is the final straw. I will not host with them again.

Everyone, if you downloaded the file from Goo please delete it and download from Dev Host.

Sorry for my reply methods, my bad - I posted kind of quick and didn't look back at it afterwards (didn't know it copied the entire first post, I hit reply not quote!). Anyway, I did verify the MD5 after the download and as I downloaded from Devhost first due to the much faster transfer speeds anyway it was good. Thank you for the flashable stock rom this is very useful! Could you please upload DLK3 baseband cwm flashable please? I know this baseband improves signal and it was not included in the rom.
appreciate it ! Thanks bud !
On a side note Up,
I got a nice basic ROM done last night and added a few things I figured I could do myself to start out with like AOSP messaging and the remove the wifi notification, few more.
Went to flash and for the "3 args looking for 4" error. So I figured it out that I needed to pull the updated-script from a working ROM and replace the one that was in my ROM. Is this standard. I used this base, so did I do the update-script step incorrectly or miss another step ? Vague question I know... still a newbie haha
