I'm in a dilemma! For the last week I've been hunting around to find the right combination of Kernels and Roms. Natively I'm a CM ASOP man. But I've tried everything from CM to MIUI to Ava to Mym. None of the roms are giving a decent amount of battery life. I've tried several combinations of Kernels also. My battery life has been as terrible as 3 hours. I'm talking about losing a percent every minute!
I didn't buy an extended battery. But I have tried a brand new regular battery to make sure that I didn't have a bad battery. Both batteries have the same results under all combinations of Kernels and Roms.
I've seen members braggin on having 12 to 18th hours of life under heavy use! How is that possible!? Lol! I know it has to do with device, kernel, rom combinations.
Can the awsome members of the GREAT Xda please help me out? Point me in the right direction. fyi: I have a ver 003 device and also I don't overclock much at all but I underclock to try and save a lil juice!
Thanks in advanced!

No matter what rom/kernel combination I run I get really ****ty battery life with the stock red HTC battery. For me personally investing the $70 or so for the Seidio extended battery on Amazon was worthwhile. I also purchased their wall charger as well.
I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass and say that the battery last 2 days with heavy use because thats BS. However, with heavy use (running emulators, gmail sync, occasional bluetooth for wii mote, texting, web browsing, etc) I can get through a 9 hour work day with a lil life to spare.
At least go on amazon and get a1800 mah battery. They are cheap but goood.

I just bought another stock battery and a wall charger, I keep the spare in my wallet and battery life is a non issue now.
Check out batteryboss.org before buying an aftermarket one though, most of them are rips offs.
I'm not sure about rip offs on amazon but certainly ebay..i bought two batteries w/a charger for $25..and a third one since my oem battery took a bath, fully charged.

I'm going to research some better batteries. I appreciate the intel. But my thing is I know I can get a few more hours of battery time with a simple kernel modification. Loosing 1% a minute is unheard of lol. Like now: I had 100% when I started this reply and I'm officially at 95% as I press Submit lol! Terrible

You should see if you can get a replacement battery from sprint. I am using CM7 nightly 24, and can easily sustain 24+ hours with the OEM red battery.
Everyone will have different results even with the same rom/kernel, however the drain that your experiencing does sound like your battery might be going bad.

I see your stats and that sh*t is wicked! I used CM7 and that one drains the quickest lol.... before I cash out on a new extended battery where's an abundant source of Kernels? I've tried three and I wanted to do a little process of elimination before I pull out my visa lol

There aren't very many CM7 kernel's available yet, so few that I can't even begin to tell you where to start looking, for Sense roms though, search for Netarchy those kernels work really well.
I see... I appreciate that! Imma give Mym a try with a few of them Kernels. Thanks again for the help
And what exactly is the Kernel that you are using!? Lol
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Honestly, I've found that the right kernel makes the biggest difference and setcpu, juicedefender, etc only make it worse. For me (also 003 hw) kings kernel and htc # 15 uv have been best. I've had great success with azrael and vaelpak roms. Currently on vaelpak with kings # 11 with NO battery saving apps. I get 24 hours with my regular use. Yesterday was very light, I went 24 hours with just under 50% left.

v8-BETA

This is what I've been testing for a while. This build contains auto bump charging based on the voltage as opposed to the full charge method. I don't know how it works on extended batteries yet...but works pretty good on stock batteries. With this, you should have a better chance of picking up the phone at higher voltages.

I flashed the ver 8 with CM6. 1.2. so far I've gotten slightly better battery life. 20 minutes and I'm still on 99%. That's a whole lot better than losing 1% a minute lol! I'm still going to do another exhaustive research to pinpoint the best combination!

If your still using CM7, it has its own built in setCPU, I have mine set to ondemand 245min, 768max, and sorry for the delayed response, I went to lunch, however the Kernel I am using for my CM7 flash is just the stock kernel that comes with the initial build if CM7.

Which .37 kernel gives the best battery life? I flashed Incredikernel last night and then charged the phone. This morning I used it for 10 minutes to check emails and the battery went from full to 79.
Oh, and I'm running CM7 RC2
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I'm also very interested in this. I just recently rooted/flashed CM7 RC2, and the battery life has been quite disappointing so far. Even with the unnecessary services turned off, my battery drains quite quickly.
I am rolling with SkyRaider 3.5, Lou's #8, an 1800mah battery and this morning, I shocked myself!
I left my house w/88% charged. Took my son to the dentist - used the phone for probably 44 minutes during that, just goofing off, reading, tweaking and whatevering ...
When I left the dentist office, 77%. Drove to work (1 hour) ... sitting at 74%.
I am also running the evo radio - which some say helps or doesn't - but I'm as happy as can be.
I turned off all of the memory management stuff and the phone is lasting longer...
I should also add - that I use Juice Defender, however when USING your phone, it is "defenseless". I find it to help me a lot with my "in my pocket" battery life. You still get txt and calls, you just don't get internet traffic.
YMMV
Where did you turn off the memory management features?
I've been using ziggys latest on Incredibly Re-Engineered Z and having great battery life. 14 hrs today off charger and was still at 50%.

If it is the platinum 3500 battery, it will be great. It's the retail version of the Seidio 3500. I picked one up a month ago. I originally bought a Laza 3500 from Amazon which wasn't much better than my stock 1500. I'm loving the Platinum though.

There are many factors that deal with battery life. Since you say you use it for texting, then you either have your phone on all the time or you are constantly turning the lockscreen on and off (I am a texter too). If you're rooted then try the kernels suggested above, they'll help BIG TIME. You can also try another rom; other roms just have great battery life. If you're not rooted, then set your phone to never search for wifi signals and only use 3G, GPS, and bluetooth whenever you need to.
I have an extended battery (2600). I was wondering, what does everyone do to get the most out of their extended battery if you have one? I'm hoping to get tips and or tricks from my fellow EVO users. If you have nothing positive to say, please don't post.. Any help is appreciated.

Are you rooted?
I use the stock battery on my rooted Evo and it lasts all day.
It really does depend on weather your rooted or not cuz on my stock battery I can go about a day in a half maybe a couple hours less MAYBE but then I have a Seidio 3500 mAh that can go exactly 2 days 1 hour and 38 minutes with heavy heavy use and also on a charge of 93 percent
So again are you rooted?

Any stock kernel will not charge any extended battert correctly. I experimented with this for the last month.

Yep. If I don't use my phone it will last all day and lose about 1.5% every two hours. I just recently switched to my current setup and am still not used to it. I'll unplug my phone at ~95% and head out the door. I'll pull it out of my pocket a number of hours later and see that it's only down to about 93% - 92%. Before I switched my setup I would've been down the low 80's if not lower. When I use it my battery depends on what I am doing with it and what I have my scaling set to. Using my phone for things like texting, facebook, email, and some web browsing on Skyfire, which is what I would consider heavy use, it goes down about 3.5% per hour. Yesterday I went to my little niece's dance class and I used my phone to record video of her entire 60 minute dance class. Battery went down about 30% percent from that but that's to be expected. I remained out of the house for another 8 hours after her class and my phone still had 50% battery left by the time I got home. Wireless tether eats up my battery. But Thats because I am usually tethering while texting and testing launchers and such on my phone.
I do all of this on a stock battery. So I can only imagine how much I'd be able to do with an extended battery.

I can get around 20-24 hours put of my battery with real heavy usage. Around 2 days with normal use.
I keep my 3g and everything off until i need it.

I've been experimenting with ROMs and kernels for the last 18 months, always looking for best battery life with regular to heavy use. A good custom kernel will sometimes give you an extra 10-15 %. Using setCPU or another app like systemtuner (my pref) to turn CPU down while screen off can also give you 5-10%. Far and away the best thing for my battery is to use an alternative launcher (ADW for me) and then use Titanium backup pro or systemtuner to freeze sense. you just find the two elements in the process list that start with "HTC sense" and freeze them. Night and day. FYI I run synergy and have always come back to Myn's ROMs cause they are good for battery from the start, but they also take well to pretty much any custom kernel, which isn't true for all ROMs. I like everything to work so I always ditch AOSP ROMs a few days after trying them.

Underclocking your CPU typically causes higher battery drain... unless you're overclocking. As long as nothing is really hammering the CPU in the background (which is the problem, not the CPU speed!), then it's better to let the CPU enter higher power states in order to finish the work quicker and return to low power sleep state. Intel calls this HUGI (Hurry Up and Get Idle). Overclocking can have bad effects with HUGI due to the higher voltage required to run at those frequencies. Lol'd at your AOSP comment though. I suppose some people are okay with subpar android, aka sense .
My Evo can last a week on a single charge. CM7.1, 1850 mAh aftermarket battery (slim, stock battery cover), Tiamat 4.1.0 kernel, aggressive undervolting and monitoring of wakelocks combined with 90% wifi usage (3g is the #1 source of battery drain!).

Underclocking is when you set the speed of the processor to a lower setting than the stock clocks where as undervolting is lowering the voltage needed to run it at a certain speed be it stock underclocked or overclocked. Simplest way I understand it.

Real culprit for batt issues
Has anyone ever bothered to understand that theres a pesty bug no one knew of.. Called CIQ "carrier IQ"
Ya this is one of the main reasons behind bad batt.. Sprint and other carriers allow a company to monitor and chart everything we do and it mirrors off txts and data sent and is designed to pick up on.key words... Basically an Invasive tracking monitor. It's a huge in noticed drain... And its been shown to be removed from system/app in many custom roms. But it never does cause its so strattled throughout the OS.

Well when is the last time you used stock? And if it's been quite a while...consider having your battery checked out. Anyway, I'll continue as if your battery is fine from here on out. Basically, anything but stock tends to have a modified kernel. Even with all the battery tweaks, etc out there, there's a chance that the kernel itself might not play well with your phone. I'm not too versed in that, but I also noticed that the TouchWiz based ICS kernels/ROMs give MUCH better battery life than AOSP based kernels/ROMs such as CM9 and AOKP, etc. This is just basic stuff you might already know, but yeah, just go on and post your battery stats, preferably with a custom rom and a stock rom so we can see the difference and where it lies. Also, I'm running Touched by a Galaxy S3 on my phone and with moderate use (music for maybe a few hours a day, texting, don't really make many calls) I average between 8.5 and 11 hours from 100 to 0. Another thing I'd suggest is download CPU Spy from the Android market, or something similar if you prefer, and post screenshots from that on the custom ROM; the problem with AOSP and certain other GB and TW ICS roms that i've seen is that something prevents the processor from going into deep sleep mode, usually keeping it at 200mhz or higher. Lastly, when you use the custom roms, do you notice the phone getting really hot compared to the stock roms?
I'm assuming you know this but are you letting the battery cycle a few times before passing judgement? I usually spend a week on a rom before I decide if I have good/bad battery life... attached screenie is normal for me with moderate use on mijjhs goodness rom

I always had faster battery drains on ROMs than stock. I see all this awesome battery stats screenshots but noticed they all share one common factor, only 1hrs to 30min screen use. Come on guys why I would want that battery life if to get it I have to barely use the phone makes no sense to me.
"hey look my awesome battery life, 1d 25min" (35min) screen time" pffffftttt :what:
Sorry for the rant. Had to let it go outside.
Edit:
Btw: this post had nothing to do with the screenshot before this post. Trust me didn't notice it was there till after the post. Lol

Sorry to disagree but that is not my experience at all... This is the m'ics rom and is typical of the battery life I get.

Agree, everyone have different experiences, I haven't try that ROM yet, I will test it out later. Have a nice day/night sir.
Sadly I have to agree with OP.
And the previous screenshots at 59% with 1hr, 36 screen on is exactly the issue.
Hard to compare your battery stats with mine since screen on time for my phone will be 4+ hours.
Since there are no standardized testing anyone can do with any rom, any speculation on which rom has better battery life or doesn't is just pure bogus seat of the pants gut feelings.
If there were a standard test that ran like. 5 minutes of mail with 20 mails received, 10 minutes download, 30 mins of playing the exact same video, 13 music tracks of the exact same song all with screen, vibration, brightness, etc all at the exact same level, you could get a real test, but, alas, nobody has a standardized test.
For MY usage, stock clocks in at the same as or better than just about any other rom I've tried, including all the various super scripts out there.
I guess I just overuse my phone!

Agreed absolutely.

I give up.every ROM I run just doesn't have the battery life expected. Am I expecting to much? Not even Cauks or blazer el29 doesn't give the battery life as stock.don't get me wrong they are all great roms but at least for my device not battery friendly. I'll post some battery stats from BBS if anybody has some free time to see what's going on. I'm on Cauks el29 now.I format everything before flashing and I use cauks format all many times. I'm on the verge of staying on stock roll my eyes.

Probably a good 2 weeks since on stock. I tried all ICS but i just used the kernel that it was packed with.THats a good time frame. What is the best kernel to run with roms?

Get a good gb rom and under clock that puppy to 500 or 800. Battery definitely lasts

Also if you use caulks roms flash his under volt script as well. I was using his -75mv script stable. Which equaled amazing battery life.

Thanks for your observation that I'm doing it wrong. What would be appreciated more than telling me your opinion would give me steps in correcting as to "what" i'm doing wrong

Things drain battery. This is my test off wifi for the most part using the phone as a phone with average use. Didn't even log in to Google on this one. Just proof that intensive applications, google services, and anything else added after a "factory flash" can manipulate battery life significantly.
Oh, and check out drain when I'm in less than ideal coverage. Noticeable difference. One huge factor to consider when diagnosing battery life.
It really depends on what you're doing with the phone. Obviously having brightness up playing heavy games with Wimax on will kill battery faster than someone on low brightness reading an ebook with wifi on. That said, i agree that I've had better battery life stock than almost all ics roms.
