bump
my phones still down, i have eclipse installed now and updated with the abd-plugin
but now i cant find the resource to replace the recovery from fastboot, please help i need a phone lol.
What format did you format your SD card in?
It's basically an easy fix. Just format your SD card to the proper format and load this zip on to your SD cards root. Just rename it to PC36IMG.Zip
http://db.tt/uo4mOhh
When in bootloader, it will find the zip. When it asks you, select yes (Vol up) when its done, select no. (vol down) reboot in recovery and flash your Rom.

Rename this file to PC36IMG.zip and put it in the root directory of your sd card. Boot into hboot and install this from hboot. It will install aman ra recovery. Once it is installed and you can successfully enter recovery, then reinstall the rom of your choice. Clockworkmod recovery is hit or miss these days and should be avoided. You are using the wrong version of clockwork anyway with your phone it should be the 2.6.0.1 version of clockwork.
Still stuck
sorry guys but im still stuck what i did was hboot/recovery.
once in recovery i put the pc36IMG.zip file into the root folder (using USB STORAGE in storage and mounts) of the freshly formatted (MS-DOS FAT32) 32gb SD
reboot, weird horizontal lines back to hboot, when it initially loads i get:
SD checking....
loading PC36DIAG.zip
No image!
loading PC36DAIG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
loading PC36IMG.zip
No image!
loading PC36IMG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
same with hboot usb when i select at bottom.
grr i need a phone what do i do to flash the new recovery?
i should say i believe this crash happend after running the formatAll.zip
bump to the top
because my phone is important to me and its still broke. im not seeing any viable solutions
Looks like either you put the file in the wrong place or you didn't rename it right.
Make sure you put it directly on the root of your SD card. This means it should NOT be in any file folder.
Also make sure the name is correct. It should read PC36IMG.zip
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk
hmmm im pretty sure its screwed because
A) Under mount USB storage, my Evo shows up on the desktop. to make sure its cleaned and there isn't anything hidden in there I simply open Disk Utility, click on the partition "EVO" go to erase and format to ms DOS fat (formats to fat32)
B)tried both files which where both RA 2.2.1 and renamed the files "PC36IMG.zip" (just as shown). Once renamed i draged the file into the now freshly formatted SD Card, no folders just the "/" (root) like i always do, then rebooted.
got the same error.
Do you have a memory card reader? I had a problem when trying to format while in the phone.

good idea
yes my hackintosh netbook has one, and ill do that right now just to make sure, i never had any of these issues until i updated to clockwork from RA 2.2.2, WHY??????
Clockwork sucks. That simple.

Your on a mac... do not rename the file 36IMG.zip it's already a zip file.... sometimes you can name it XXX.zip.zip and it will not work

You r Right. I think he named it PC36IMG.zip.zip. Just rename the file PC36IMG & boot into bootloader. If the file is named right hboot will see it.
Swyped from CM7 from XDA app.
Actually...
I renamed the ra.zip to pc36IMG.zip, give me a little credit I know about renaming file extensions, btw I fix it by
Formating it through the sd slot, then repartitioned the format as a master boot record becuase by default it was formatting in GUID. I believe this is why a android couldn't read it.

Hi guys.
Please, I need a little help. 2 days ago I bought Desire. I rooted it with UnRevoked 3.2.1. I also replaced SD card with a new 8 GB Sandisk. Now, how can I create all pertitions needed (ext3 and fat32)? I put on ROM manager, which does nothing, ie. when I select to create partition of 512 MB, it rebooted, but does nothing. I am Windows XP and Win 7 64 bit user. Can you please tell me how to create all necessary partitions AND neede Cache, ... folders on SD?
Thank you a lot,
Sandi
What exactly did you do with ROM manager?
I would just reboot into recovery (start phone with volume down, wait a few seconds till sd card check is over and select recovery) and go to "mounts and storage" and format sdcard. 512 mb ext2, rest fat32, then upgrade to ext3. Should work this way.
edit: ext partition size varies depending on the rom you flash and if it has data2sd.
Which rom do you want to flash?
There have been, in the past days alone, multiple threads about this. Maybe some searching on your one is a good idea. If that is to complicated i can narrow it down for you with a little hint: GParted
Actually, I thought that it will be this way. But this does nothing, so I am a little lost.
Regards,
Sandi
Ok, I rebooted phone. Having HBOOT 0.93. Going to down to Recovery. I got a ClockWorkMod v2.5.0.7. Going to Mounts and Storage. Then select Format sd-ext. It says: Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd artition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
So, how to create partition?
Thank you very much, Sandi
ok i thought that clockwork mod recovery was capable of partitioning sd card.
but you can flash amon ra recovery (this is the GSM version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621&highlight=amon
have you got s-off? if yes, you can just flash the recovery via fastboot.
if not, you will probably have to do it with unrevoked.
edit: accidently hit the thanks button on your post, dont wonder
I have S-ON now. How can I then use AmonRa .IMG? I have no way to choose to load img file, as only load ZIP and so on are there.
Regards,
Sandi
Well, just start unrevoked and press CTRL + R (or just select file --> custom recovery...
Select the image you downloaded from the amon-ra thread and it should work. Haven't tried it with a custom one yet personally, but these instructions are also mentioned in the amon ra thread:

Of course I wanted to get me some custom ROMS, but it finished badly.
Now I did it
I rooted with Unrevoked. I went without problems. Then I created CD for AlphaRev 1.5, rebooted PC and started process to get S-OFF.
Unfortunatelly, it said after step 3, that procedure didn't finish correctly. My HTC stuck on HTC logo screen, and it throws 2 black lines on it.
I can get to Recovery mode with power+down buttons, but what to do now. It doesn't reboot at all.
I have correct RUU exe file for my HTC, but it is not recognised. Please, any help what to do?
Regards,
Sandi
OK, been screwing with iPhones for YEARS.. (Franlkly, that ****s a cakewalk compared to screwing with android phones)... Anyway, I've inherited an HTC desire that's been rooted with Clockwork 2.something, and a froyo 2.2 rom. I've since updated the hboot to 0.93.0001 FROM .83 or .84 or something... or im TRYING to get the gingervillian rom to function correctly but im having problems with the whole clockwork 3.0 thing. (I cant figure out how to install clockwork to the phone NOT the SD card.. as Im assuming i need clockwork installed to the phone to handle the whole EXT on the SD thing...
(Basically, when i run in a terminal:
su
a2sd cachesd
it returns a "cant mount sd-ext" error...
(this is my biggest problem so far... after that is... HOW THE HELL do i install clockwork to the phone (or upgrade clockwork to the phone) rather than the SD card (yes, i can run the clockwork 3.0 from the sd by entering recovery and "installing" it (which really only runs it) from the sd card (wether it's named update.zip or recovery.img or blahblahblah.zip)...
As im fairly new to the android thing (and for the record.. the android kicks the **** out of every iphone ive ever touched)... can someone PLEASE... point me in the general direction of right?
really? nothing? no one has had a single issue with going to gingervillain? and cant point me in ANY direction? THIS i find difficult to believe...
from what i understand you want to put the latest clockwork recovery onto your phone ????
if so in rom manager click (i not used it for a long time ) the top one syas something like flash clockwork / current clockwork , boot into recovery search for the zip it created and install
or you can get the img file and push it via fastboot
fastboot erase recovery (enter)
fastboot flash recovery clockwork-recovery.img (enter)
^^ thats the commands to push it once you have directed to where it is .. for eg
cd c:\ enter (then direct it to where recovery.img is preferably in tools folder of sdk )
if thats not what you want then thats just some useless info you have gathered .....lol
It's not that difficult your are just mixing up a few words.
Clockwork is a recovery, this way you can flash new roms etc. I think you are using an old tutorial about rooting etc.
1. Download unrevoked to root your device. You can select to install a different recovery in Unrevoked.
2. I would suggest using a different recovery, look for amon-ra in the rom development thread.
3. This error "cant mount sd-ext" means that you don't have an ext3 partition on your SD card. There are a lot of tutorials how to do this, but I think the easiest way is true the amon-ra recovery. (I believe that clockwork also has this option) You have an option to partion your SD card. Make that ext3 partition 512mb or 1gb in size. Set swap for 0. The rest fat32.
4. After you have done this you can type the commands again in the terminal and it will work.
You can skip part 1 and 2 if you want but I suggest that you follow them.
ps the Hboot does not matter anymore which version you have.
OK, so I've gotten a little further. Ive successfully installed Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.5 onto the phone itself (installed via terminal as:
su
flash_ image recovery /sdcard/Clockwork.img
Then did a factory reset of the phone, booted into recovery, formated the sd card with a 1G ext partition, and 128MB swap... the rest as FAT. Then mounted as USB, transfered the Gingervillian 1.5 image to the sd card and installed Gingervillian. Booted into Gingervillian, installed terminal and tried to move the Dalvik cache. TO NO AVAIL...
I still get an error saying that the davlik cache cant be moved.
Additionally, from Clockwork, after formating the SD card, i try to mount sd-ext and it says it cant...
any advice?
OK, apparently it's the SD card I was using (i was attempting to use a 32GB SD card... I swapped back to my 8GB sd card and it seems to work flawlessly.
Any ideas on what would stop the 32gb sd card from taking an ext partition?
(interestingly, google maps crashes when i attempt to a2sd cachesd on the 8gb sd card...)
I didn't need to have an ext 3 partition on my card to use Oxygen and also I didn't update my HBoot from the default.
Using clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7
Just use Rom Manager to install and reboot into clockwork recovery and then from there you should be able to clear the cache and install oxygen with no problems with only a fat32 partition.
Ok so after million years I finally rooted my 2.2 phone,
I got the Crysis theme, renamed it to update and put it on my phone via debugging usb , now im suppose to go to recovery mode , so I did once I get there its all blue writing (in the video it was orange) and its <3e> , all the other videos were in Clockwork recovery, I have it and I "FLASHED" it but w.e I do its always in the default recovery.
I select update sdcard .zip ( or something like that) once I select it I get an error saying
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborte
I looked on the forums already for this problem , so I found it and it send me to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
where I downloaded the update and 3e recovery manager, but I have no idea what to do with it I installed it and put it on my sd card, flashed but im still in the same recovery getting the same error, help please
Im using Samsung Galaxy I9000 (obv)
Thank you
3e recovery will give you signature verification errors. You should be able to get 2e recovery following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
For the link provided did you place the files on the internal storage and not the actually internal sd card?
The post you send me its way too confusing for me :/ I dont think I'll be able to do that by my self and I put the files via the debugging system, it puts them on internal memory but when I go to "Files" folder its ther
Sorry if my post was confusing. Sounds from what you are telling me that you are actually putting those files into the internal sd card. You need an app like root explorer or something that will allow you rw to the actual internal phone storage. Once you get access to the internal storage I would strongly recommend you backup your efs folder before you do anything else.
Hi!
I got some question related to Partition SD card.
Running RCMix S v2.0 CM7
Right now i have 6.42 Gb fat32 and 1Gb Ext 3.
I partition this using CWM-Alpharev recovery 2.5.1.8
When i try to use Gparted to partition to Ext 4 while am on Rcmi. The rom wont able to read the sd and it restart. After it got stuck at "why so serious" screen so i pulled battery out and get into recovery to flash the rom again. Thats when i ran you another problem i get cant mount error. "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory) E: Can't mount SDCARD:" I has tried all the usb fix thing but no luck. The only way i fixed it turn it back to 1 Gb Ext 3 partition.
My question is!
Is there a a way to partition to Ext 4? and is Ext 4 better than Ext 3. Can i stay with Ext 3 since the ROM am using a2sd doesn't work since i keep getting Low on internal storage.
Also, I cant make gold card since i cant put new sd card in phone. The phone wont boot up after it get stuck at "why so serious."
hi try to flash different recovery and format (not wipe) all partitions and flash it again... at the moment im using 4ext recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154221
or RMD recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
what hboot you using?
Does RcMixS boots if you are using ext3? If yes, stick with it. Ext4 is just faster than ext3, but you should not get any problems. RcMixS requires only an ext partition, not a special type.
Hboot-0.93.0001
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
Radio-4.08.00.09
and yes RcMixs work fine with ext3 and that only ext that work with the recovery.
It is safe to flash new recovery?
It depdends. Are you S-OFF? If, then yes. If not, then no.
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
It said it off so that mean it safe?
And if it is. How can i flash new recovery?
If you how what you do when using fastboot and check the md5 after downloading the recovery.img, I would say: Yes, it's save.
Flashing new recovery via fastboot is very easy:
1.) Download the recovery you want. In my opinion 4EXTRecovery and RMD Recovery are currently the best ones.
2.) After downloading, check the md5!
3.) Install adb on your computer. An installation can be found in my signature.
4.) Boot your phone into fastboot mode (Turn it off, press and hold back and power button a few seconds until a white screen with FASTBOOT in red highlighted letters appears).
5.) Connect your phone to your computer via USB (FASTBOOT should change to FASTBOOT USB).
6.) Open cmd in computer (I assume you are using windows) and enter
Code:
fastboot devices
The output should say
HT********** fastboot devices. The **** are placeholders for numbers. If you get this output, fastboot sees your phone.
7.) Now type
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
to delete the recovery.
8.) When finished, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\recovery.img
I assume the recovery image you want to flash is stored on partition C: and named recovery.img.
9.) You are done.
Thanks you so much. It worked. I got a another questions. It regard of updating radio. My current radio version is 4.08.00.09. It is important to update to latest version or am fine at current radio?
You only really need to update your radio if there are problems. So if you really need to update your radio, make sure your hboot has >40 mb on cache partition. Otherwise, it will fail and can cause big problems. But mostly nothings happens. So if you have a /cache partition with <40 mb, you have to flash radio via fastboot. A guide can be found here on xda.
Do you know how to check if hboot have more than 40 mb or less on cache partition?
There no problem right now. I just want to know just in case later in future something wrong, and i know what to do.
And thank you very much for helping out.
Download quick system info pro from market.

One last question. Sorry for so many questions.
Do you know how make goldcard? I tried to make one following instructions on web but it said i need put spare SD card in phone and boot up but the thing is the current rom am using. Which is RCmix 2.0 it need sd ext to boot up or phone will get stuck at S-OFF screen.
Creating a goldcard is very easy:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/
Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
That part i got stuck at. The thing is went i put a new sd card in phone and boot up. It wont boot into the phone just get stuck at the splash screen. Like i said before. I believe the rom am currently using (RCmix 2.0) need sd-ext to run.
Overread that, my bad. You are right, RcMixS needs ext partition to boot up. Configure your sd card appropriate.
What do you mean configure my sd card? You mean to make my spare sd fat 32 and ext 3 but dont i need copy the content from ext 3 on my other sd card to the spare one?
Configure=partition. I thought you were not be able to start the rom? So there won't be any data on sd-ext because this partition is only for apps. All other content have to be copied to FAT32 partition.
Ok ill try that then. Does it matter if there contents and ext 3 partition in sd card while make a goldcard?
Partitioning a card will break gold as it rewrites the boot of the card, where the goldcard.img is. Although I haven't tried it myself, I believe creating a gold card after partitioning should be fine.
Well that what i mean partition so phone boot up and create the phone. Can i also make one using Sd card reader to make goldcard rather than put sd card in phone and make it there?
So my friend reformatted his sd card to fat32 (this was so he can pub PB31IMG.zip in his sd card and flash it using hboot he is rooted but clockwork recovery doesn't work)
Anyways when the phone is plugged in to the PC, two disk drives show up "DISK G" and "DISK F", both are completely blank.
What does this mean?
It wasn't like that before he reformatted them both to fat32 file system.

Well if they were formated they should be empty. Formating means to wipe all data and rebuild the disks file structure to fat32. Are you able to drag and drop files into the folders?
Ya they can drag and drop the problem is he formatted his internal storage as well
And hboot says "cannot find image or wrong image" when trying to flash PB31IMG.zip (put both PB31IMG and PB31IMG.zip just incase)

Not sure about that but if he's trying to fix clockwork he can flash from ROM manager. Sounds like an incorrect hboot file.

Ya thats the problem, clockwork recovery is a blank screen with two white bars on the sides for him. Its some issue with the Incredible LCD screen not seeing the recovery. Thats why he was trying to flash a working recovery but cant because hboot won't read it.

What hboot version is the phone on now. As said earlier you can flash it thru rom manager. If you have an unlockable bootloader you can fastboot flash cwm recovery img. Where are you getting the files from? Try this one http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip

You can not flash cwm recovery or anything thru hboot except an officially signed ruu unless you are s-off. I would follow one of these guides to root and optionally get s-off. There is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1506258, or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1600904, both do the same thing just wrote up a little differently.
Thanks for all your help, I'll try those guides but the links give a 404 error.
