[Q] Virtuous ROM tilts only when keyboard is out - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
After getting rather chummy with the Virtuous ROM, I ran into a small problem: The screen changes to landscape just fine when the hardware keyboard is used but not when it's closed. I've looked under settings but couldn't find an option to change that.
I remember that on the stock HTC ROM, there was an App installed for this, I believe. Do I have to redownload this? Where would I find it?
Regards and thank you,

Go to settings, Display, and check enable auto rotation

That option is checked and it has always been.
Perhaps I should also mention that Angry Birds, as an example, does display in landscape but it does so out of principle (there doesn't seem to be any other mode).

If you're talking about the homescreen, I don't think that HTC Sense allows Landscape mode without the keyboard out.

I could be wrong, of course, but I do believe it worked when I had the stock ROM installed.
This is not a dealbreaker, of course, it's just I was wondering about that.

I have the stock ROM, and nope, it does not switch to landscape mode, except when the keyboard is out. It makes sense since you don't want your homescreen switching back and forth when walking or in a vehicle or something like that.

launcher pro homescreen will switch to landscape when turned, at least on a mt4g rooted running 2.2.1 it does. i havent gotten my G2 yet (this week it should be arriving) so i have yet to try it on a G2 yet.

Turning off Sense in Favor of Vanilla Android No Longer Possible?

Hi there!
I've written a FAQ with Android tips & tricks and tweaks that I try to keep updated, and when I made an attempt to turn off HTC Sense on my Desire the other day in order to get the default Android homescreen, the old method didn't work.
Clearing the defaults for HTC Sense had no effect, and Home wasn't even listed in the application manager.
Is there another way? Perhaps Sense on Android 2.1 devices goes so deep that there isn't even a vanilla Android below it anymore?
Thanks
When you say "no longer possible" are you saying you were able to do this before? From what I know Launcher2, the default 2.1 app launcher, is not installed so you have to find the apk somewhere and install that first.
When the reviewers were first getting hold of Desire's I think there was a video of someone turning off Sense and running stock Android. It was a really simple process too, from what I remember.
When the phone was officially released people noticed you couldn't do this any more.
I think that's what the OP is referring to.
HTC removed the standard Home before they shipped the Desire, so it's never been possible on post-release handsets. It was an option on pre-release phones, though, so people got videos out showing how to do it, and then no dice...
You can install HelixLauncher 2 or 1, which will give you similar homes. I'm not sure if the regular Launcher2.apk will install - I seem to remember trying it and failing. Don't recall for sure, though.
not again lol....well this has been discussed before again and again, the retail version's sense ui cannot be turned off...
Well, it can if you install a different home replacement and clear Sense's defaults.
You can install Launcher2.apk you should be able to find it in some other threads
(use the search?). I had no problems installing it.
Then do the 'clear defaults' setting on the Sense UI application, press 'home' and it will ask you which home screen you want to use.
Better still, install the Helix Launcher 2 from the Market. I prefer it because of the ability to insert 4 static shortcuts alongside the menu button where the space was just previously wasted.

Autorotate control, undesired right tilt on Froyo.

Hi so I'm not very happy about the autorotation on Froyo. I want to have it like it was on Eclair, that is not to rotate to the right if the phone tilts to it, but only autorotate to the left.
Is there a way to do this, I'm getting insane since I want to liedown and type in landscape without hassle.
Thanks for any help
Ps is it only my autorotation that has a very slow response since Froyo update?
I don't actually think there is a way. At least I haven't seen one, haven't heard it mentioned, or can think of where it would be. As for the lag I haven't had any. I've actually been amazed at how snappy my phone is now.
You could try a home replacement application.
It's a Sense ROM feature that HTC implemented, which I really hate!
I am running launcher pro plus, but it's control can't take determine the systems rotation.
Also I sent an email to an creator of apps about this. Also whom changed the headline it look to be a miss comprehension of my first post? (using the xda app).
I can tilt to right, center and left but want control of the tilts.

[Q] App open / close animations?

On basically all android phones i have seen (that are not from htc) there is a kind of "zooming" animation when you open an app and a kind of "unzooming" one when an app closes
How can we get this on the desire?
Thanks in advance
Kris
What a coincidence that I just posted a similar thread a few hours ago
Sorry I'm a new registered user and I'm not allowed to post the URL of my post here.
You can find it in next page hopefully, but I haven't got any replies yet
If you are using the shipped ROM, I think it is just because HTC Sense UI disabled it. I feel confused because even if I flashed my phone with OpenDesire ROM, the zooming out animation is still missing while the opening zooming in animation is OK now. So I also want to know if there is way to tweak. However, I guess you will need the root access even if there is way to tweak
Suggest you guys check out LauncherPro. That supports fly-in and fly-out effects when entering and exiting applications.
Well, I know that 3rd party launcher apps can do this, but this animation should be built-in because I can see it in the SDK emulator, and also in Nexus One, so I would more like to figure out why I cannot see it in OpenDesire, and if other users can see it normally.

exactly ... also i don't like LauncherPro
Kris
In my thread someone suggested to try Spare Parts, I installed it but I found I can only adjust the animation speed, but no switch to turn on / off a particular animation...
Pretty sure HTC turned off this pointless 'feature' in Sense...
so is there any way to turn it back on?

[Q] after closing an app, icons take forever to reappear

im running stock froyo ec05. however it did this on eb13 as well. never rooted or modded anything. but what happens is after i close an app, texting , phone call, browser, game etc. it shows my background but my icons take up to 15 seconds to reappear. what could be causing this and is it an easy fix?
I Have the Same issue, also looking for the answer. we have 2 Epics here, one rooted one not. both have been doing it for a while, but the other day one of them needed the battery pulled, was stuck for 1/2 hour+
i can make it fail by just opening the keyboard from a home screen, takes a while to reload the icons.
I have the same issue. If I open and close it more than once the time decreases but it never did this on Eclair.
so just as a quick update. i changed/tried other Launchers and that seems to be the factor. i'm now using Go Launcher and it's great. seems that TW and Froyo don't play well together is my best guess. ADW, Launcher Pro, even Stock Launcher all work better right away.
For those of us who might want to stay with Touch wiz, it would be nice to find a fix for this though.

Mine sped up considerably by putting on a custom ROM. No speed enhancements between stock Froyo and Touchwiz.

Nothing is rotating on my phone

Hi,
My phone's rooted, using the ROM that came with root. I haven't had too many problems with it since rooting, but I've noticed that nothing is rotating. I have Screen Rotation turned on and have even shut it off and turned it on a few times. It hasn't made a difference. I noticed it when I was trying to look at pictures taken in landscape using gallery. They do not rotate. Then I went in to other apps and none of them are rotating either.
Any ideas on how this can be fixed? Since rooting it, I've been keeping my phone to minimal apps. I really don't have much installed.
Try this thread. It worked for me but I think I had to use a different version of the file "libgnustl_shared.so" that it links to.

The stock touchwiz launcher doesn't like to sit in any aspect except portrait if u can't get other apps to rotate you may have issue

Before rooting and installing that ROM on my phone, I had no problems with getting images to rotate in the gallery. I think that it has to be this ROM.

Im not gonna lie, i am lost ! I cant remeber what rom this is in reference too. Hmmm touchwiz launcher must be modest rom jasmine rom paulpizz rom or nseven . Lets go with modest (its the most common)while u shouldnt need xposed (this is basic)But i beleive wanam touchwiz module has the options you are missing built into it. alternately you coyld grab a third party rotation control app from the play store or just change launchers. If your heart is set on touchwiz i beleive xposed is your best bet

I don't remember, either. It is whatever came with stuff for rooting 5.1.1. It's been ok for the most part. The only two issues I've had with it are the keyboard missing all of the punctuation and this rotating issue. I'm using Nova for the launcher, but the rotation doesn't work on touchwiz either. I'm thinking of moving to the Note 8, when it comes out, so this might not be something that I have to worry about (be annoyed about) for much longer.
I'll have to look up that wanam touchwiz module that you speak of.
